Warning

The 2022 steward elections are finished. No further votes will be accepted.

The 2022-23 Confirmation will begin on 07 February, and will finish on 26 February.

The 2022-23 Steward Confirmations are an opportunity for the Wikimedia community to comment on the performance of existing stewards. To make the process as smooth as possible, the confirmations are organized as follows.

To comment, please log in with an account that has edits (on any wiki) before 07 February. During the 2022 Elections, please mention if you are comfortable or unhappy with the use of steward tools of any of the people listed below and why.

After the election, stewards (including the newly-elected ones) are invited to review the confirmation comments and to give their impression of the outcome (consensus to confirm/remove etc.) on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2022 for every steward who stood for confirmation. Of course, they are not required to do this for every candidate and will be especially careful to do it regarding someone about whom they expressed strong opinions in the confirmation. Non-steward comments are welcome outside of the "Final Decision" section, subject to the usual expectations of civility. Confirmation discussions will last one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards. This may be extended to two weeks for one or more confirmations at the discretion of the Election Committee if the committee believes further input is required before concluding. The Election Committee will close these discussions and implement the outcome (which also means making a decision in non-obvious cases).

All stewards elected before February 2022 will undergo this process.

  • Personal info: I've had COVID in early 2021, and took a few months (mostly off-internet) dealing with after-effect of that. That's the only excuse and I don't have further excuses to make.
I've been handling somewhat emergency requests from time to time, and I think I am still (somewhat) valuable for community for an emergency contact. Since I don't want to hold the right I don't use, if I am less (or similarly) active in 2022 than 2021, I will not seek renewal in 2023. — regards, Revi 19:16, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello. I have almost completed my first year as a Steward and have learned a lot this year with more still to learn. In this past year, my areas of focus have been SRCU, SRGP, SRP and SRG. I do still have some ideas for changing steward processes and I will advocate more for that this year, along with continuing to serve the areas I mentioned. -- Amanda (she/her) 15:50, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is my third confirmation I believe. Subjectively it feels like in 2021 I was more active than in 2019, but less active than in 2020. Unfortunately neither of those constitutes a big activity neither quantitatively, such as in the number of logged actions, or qualitatively, such as dealing with difficult RfCs. That said, there are some things I was doing. Main focus for me remained on SRP and SRGP, occasional replies to OTRSVRT letters to stewards, especially in Russian and Ukrainian; occasional replies to requests sent privately or in chats, as I am generally available on most platforms Wikimedians use to talk to each other, pinging me to do something works in most cases, unless I am afk, with the major exceptions being a couple of difficult cases that I have left for others to deal with in due time. I have participated in some of the steward Trust and Safety calls, tried to represent Stewards' UG on some of the SWAN calls, although my main focus there was on my other affiliate's interests. I have participated in some of the mailing list discussions, and renamed a few accounts using the global rename access. Traditionally locks and global blocks are not my focus, although I have suppressed a couple of hundreds of offensive username accounts of an LTA active mostly on ukwiki. Generally I am trying to be available all the time, but over this year it was only sporadically that I actively checked the requests. I am happy with my activity given 2021 was a more difficult year for me than 2020 because of some stuff IRL, but globally I hope to raise my activity levels eventually. That said, it would be understandable if you oppose my confirmation because of low activity or because of other factors, but in any case I will remain active on Meta in my other capacities as well as will try to help with some steward related things this way or the other. --Base (talk) 03:05, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello all. I have been a steward for just about a decade now (since February 2011). During the past year, I have been consistently active, performing hundreds of global actions relating to vandalism/spam accounts. I'm looking forward to working with the current and future stewards throughout the years to come. --Bsadowski1 (talk) 17:00, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Doubtless, there will be some people wondering who I am. I asked for my account to be renamed from User:Green Giant a few months ago. This has been another very difficult year for me personally. I have lost more members of my immediate family to COVID-19 and had a second bout of the illness in the summer, although I seem to have recovered more quickly this time. In terms of steward activities, my priority has been the stewards VRT queue, where I have answered more than a thousand emails. These have included emails from people experiencing global IP blocks (both anonymous and registered accounts), requests for IP block exemptions, complaints about local IP blocks (gently redirected to user talk pages), and requests to block pesky local administrators who set the aforementioned local blocks! I have also processed a number of lock appeals (mostly declined because the appellant did not want to stop their abusive behaviour) including one that wanted me to believe that being blocked for vandalism on 12 wikis was not serious enough to warrant a global lock 😬. In addition, I have tagged hundreds of spam/phishing emails (no, Wikimedia stewards do not want to buy thousands of discounted face masks, although we are considering applying for lucrative PPE contracts with corrupt government officials 🤔), and locked dozens of spam accounts. A few months ago, I was kindly selected by the English Wikinews community to become a bureaucrat and a checkuser (does this qualify me as a 🎩-collector? 🥳). Apologies for the emojis but I believe I can still contribute and with your permission I’d like to serve at least one more year as a steward.

  • Personal info: I have been a steward since 2017. I have been thinking of resigning, but realized I can still be useful in this position. I must be honest to you: I cannot promise to maintain super high activity levels as a steward or be highly active on IRC because of RL needs. I can, however, commit to a moderate level of activity. I would like to provide assistance as a steward for another year, mainly handling cross-wiki abuse/vandalism/spam/LTAs, rights requests and helping out in AAR, if I still deserve your confidence. I realize I was not much present on IRC, and will definitely rectify that if I am allowed to continue. Please don't hesitate to leave any comment you feel appropriate. Thank you for considering. • Personal info: According to stats, I've been about as active as in previous years. However, it still feels much more time-consuming than it's reflected in raw numbers. Nowadays, I can be reached much easier on Discord than IRC where I handle a couple of requests from users who know that I can be reached there easily. This also led me to take more edits on SR subpages than ever before, I think. Furthermore, I've attended various calls with the WMF about the future of the movement and the stewards' role within, as well as the monthly steward calls, in particular about technical issues. I'm still acting as a co-contact for the Wikimedia Stewards User Group but haven't had much time in the last quarter of the year for these activities due to some real-life activities for the first time again since the start of the pandemic which is why I could submit the report only later than intended. Besides that, I'm active in non-public conversations on our various channels, mostly sharing my experiences from more than a decade in this role. I'm motivated to continue my activities in a similar way and look forward to celebrating my 15th anniversary this year. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
