Steward requests/Permissions

(Redirected from SRP)
Shortcut:
SRP

This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

  • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page edit

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== Username@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = <!-- such as en.wikibooks -->
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement edit

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Requests edit

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== User name@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
  |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
  |domain     =
  |user name  =
  |discussion =
}}

Administrator access edit

See Administrator for information about this user group.

  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew adminship.

  • Discussions should be open for seven days. Please request adminship here seven days after discussions started. This page is not the place for any discussions or votes. (For wikis with few active users, it is OK to have no comments.)
  • If you only want adminship for specific tasks, please state for how long and for which tasks you need it. Otherwise stewards will decide whether to assign permanent adminship and the duration of adminship. See Steward requests/Permissions/Minimum voting requirements.

CapitainAfrika@kgwikipedia edit

I want to become Administrator access and Interface administrator access on wikipedia in kikongo (see here) CapitainAfrika (talk) 20:44, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  On hold until 1 April. Like above your request doesn't seem to say anything about the interface admin part, so I'm not sure about granting that. EPIC (talk) 20:57, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
for the interface, there are many words that do not agree with the true meaning of the words, this is the reason for this need.CapitainAfrika (talk) 21:07, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It has now been one week since the request was opened, but still, given that your userpage says you are kg-0 makes me hesitant about granting here. I will leave this to another steward for that reason. EPIC (talk) 11:16, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@EPIC, @CapitainAfrika: Interface administrator rights are not necessary at all for general improvements in interface translation. It's much better to do it on https://translatewiki.net, which has its own accounts.
Interface administrator rights are necessary for advanced interface customizations, only in cases when the translations that come from translatewiki.net cannot be appropriate for some reason, and as far as I can see, this is not the case with kg.wikipedia at the moment. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 13:39, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, well, yes, the IA request was already declined a while ago, I'm just waiting for input from another steward regarding the sysop bit. EPIC (talk) 13:51, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @CapitainAfrika: For which task do you need the sysop and IA flags? How do you think you can handle the fact that you are a kg-0 speaker? Superpes15 (talk) 09:37, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Superpes15, I have basic knowledge since I am from the region and my parents come from this community, I am looking to revitalize my language and I have already formed a community of contributors to move the project forward. I am learning the language and I can do the translations on translatewiki.net, but I also asked for administrator rights since I have some experience using Wikipedia CapitainAfrika (talk) 10:16, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CapitainAfrika: Thanks for your explanation, but it's still unclear to me why do you need sysop flag there, which kind of task requires the flag? Superpes15 (talk) 10:39, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are certain modules that require you to have rights to create them, I am trying to set up the Biography infobox for example, the display is not correct, in lnwiki it is already good but especially to retrieve the info from Wikidata, moreover the user @Pppery helped us to do it in lnwiki, but the problem remains in kgwiki, too, for the display of navigation palette in bottom of the page, it's still difficult for the two wikis, I'll send you the links that complicate me, if you could help me either by creating them or by helping me create them :

Volstand@bjn.wiktionary edit

Hello. This request is for renewal of administrator and interface administrator access. Regards, Ezagren (talk) 13:00, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  Granted for 1 year to expire on 2025-05-05. for administrator,   On hold for interface administrator pending response to email. EPIC (talk) 13:09, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've gotten into a dilemma, because apparently they do not have wikimail enabled. @Ezagren: Could you please tell them to link an email address to their wiki account, at least temporarily, so that I can email them? This cannot be discussed publicly. EPIC (talk) 13:24, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Halo, saya sudah mengaktifkan email di akun Wikimedia saya. Silakan coba kirimi saya email. Volstand (talk) 00:56, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Volstand: As far as I can see you don't have email enabled, but it is no longer needed so you can forget about that.
However, may I ask you if you have enabled two-factor authentication for your account? If you do not, please follow the instructions here to enable it. The reason I am asking is because per WMF requirements, you will need to enable two-factor authentication to be given interface adminship. EPIC (talk) 12:16, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Umarxon III@tkwiki edit

Hello! There are currently almost no active users on the Turkmen Wikipedia. There is a lot of work to be done by the administrator. There are a lot of trash articles praising the presidents of this country that should be removed. Therefore, I decided to submit my application to become an administrator. Now the number of my edits is more than 200. In the future I plan to create rules for local Wikipedia. Sincerely, Umarxon III (talk) 06:23, 13 May 2024 (UTC).[reply]

Hmm, I think this is quite borderline, since you do have admin experience but you are only tk-1 and don't have any local users supporting. I don't really know how to weigh in on this, could a fellow steward give their opinion on this? EPIC (talk) 06:30, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Recently, there are almost no active users in Turkmen, there are very few edits, and of course no one voted for me. As for my level of knowledge of the language, I am constantly working on it. Now my level has reached up to advanced. I don't mind the fact that another steward will express his opinion. Umarxon III (talk) 07:47, 13 May 2024 (UTC).[reply]
I'd like to hear from the active local sysop :) Superpes15 (talk) 07:42, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are indeed no active users, let alone a native Turkmen speaker. In the past few years I have only seen a couple tk-N users, none of which are active at the moment, including the only other admin, who hasn't edited for months. I don't think the lack of knowledge of the language is a deal breaker since Turkic languages are generally similar (the candidate is uz-N) and I myself also with "only" tk-1 have managed to do it for some time now. As for the actual candidate, I don't really have an objection since I've somewhat know Umarxon on uzwiki from my time as a global sysop. The desysop that took place there is over a year ago now and while it appears to be problematic, not a lot of the concerns raised there applicable to tkwiki, especially given that the user was allowed to retain the eliminator right to delete articles even after the desysop. I think this is in line with what is expected at tkwiki, where not much happens apart from a few spam pages every now and then. Styyx (talk) 16:12, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would say that is enough of an endorsement.   Granted for 3 months to expire on 2024-08-16. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. EPIC (talk) 16:22, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Aɣaras iḍlan@shiwikipedia edit

  On hold until 20 May 2024. EPIC (talk) 12:49, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Qu0404@cebwiki edit

At Steward requests/Permissions/2024-02#Qu0404@cebwiki I was given admin access for 3 months (which is about to expire) with the instruction to start another election before the temporary access expires and then post a request here again. There has been no objections to this and I have preformed several hundred uncontested admin actions. I'm patrolling the recent changes and moving pages to unqualified names after duplicates have been merged. Keeping admin tools would be helpful so that I can continue to patrol and cleanup duplicates so can I have admin tools permanently please, thanks. Qu0404 (talk) 11:55, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Qu0404: But as far as I can see, creating a subpage to ceb:Wikipedia:Tigdumala and following the instructions at ceb:Wikipedia:Mga hangyo nga mahimong tigdumala seems to be the correct way to apply for adminship? That seems to be the dedicated page to do so and that was the case last time, so please open a discussion there, come back after a week and there shouldn't be any problems prolonging this. EPIC (talk) 11:59, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, cebwiki is currently not large enough for permanent administrators, but since you have been doing well there should be no problems granting you for a longer term this time. EPIC (talk) 12:02, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@EPIC: I've started ceb:Wikipedia:Tigdumala/Qu0404 (3). Qu0404 (talk) 13:32, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great, looks good!   On hold until 23 May 2024. EPIC (talk) 13:34, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Srđan@bswikiquote edit

Note: This request is for multiple permissions: sysop, interface-admin and bureaucrat. – Srđan (talk) 09:40, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  Granted for 3 months to expire on 2024-08-16. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. (for admin+IA)
  Not done for bureaucrat as the community is not large enough to justify having a bureaucrat. EPIC (talk) 09:54, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Qaraqalpaqpan@kaawiktionary edit

Dear global administrators. Recently we achieved the full version of Kaawiktionary (kaa.wiktionary.org) project from Incubator. So now, when we have a separate site for our project, it's required to rearrange it. That's why I would like to ask admin status (and interface admin status the same time) for the project for 6 month. Because we should delete wrong pages, which had been entered by mistake. Also I would like to make small changes in Sidebar and to add some Gadgets, that's why I need interface adminship to access "Mediawiki:" namespace. Actually I am the current administrator (and interface administrator) of Karakalpak Wikipedia (kaa.wikipedia.org), so I think I have enough experience to ask both statuses the same time. I put a discussion on kaawiktionary admins and interface admins pages on 07.05.2024 and it has passed 7 required days. Just for your information and thank you in advance. Qaraqalpaqpan (talk) 06:15, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  Granted for 3 months to expire on 2024-08-18. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. EPIC (talk) 06:20, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NurkaArzay@kaawiktionary edit

Good day global administrators. I would like to ask admin status for Kaawiktionary (kaa.wiktionary.org) project for 6 month. During last months I was one of the most active users and created about 1800 pages for the project (in Incubator). The adminship is required to delete wrong pages. I’m in a good relationship with other users. I put a discussion on kaawiktionary admins page on 08.05.2024 and it has passed 7 required days. There is no objections by others. Thank you in advance. NurkaArzay (talk) 18:42, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  Granted for 3 months to expire on 2024-08-18. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks.
I am granting you for three months here, because the community is still really small. If all goes well when the time is up, we can consider extending. EPIC (talk) 18:47, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Super Dromaeosaurus@roa-rup.wikipedia edit

Hello. I am here to request admin status at roa-rup.wiki (Aromanian Wikipedia). It is in a pretty bad state. I have not bothered starting a discussion because there is no community there. The Main Page's talk page was last edited in 2014 [1], while the Community Portal hasn't been edited since 2012 [2]. There is only one local admin [3] who has never edited the Wikipedia [4]. There are pages that shouldn't exist (I mean look at this [5]) and have been tagged for months without anyone doing anything [6]. I can start a discussion and wait for... some years if necessary for the sake of the process but I'm pretty sure the discussion would go unreplied.

The reason I want to take the role is because I have a high interest in the Aromanian people. I am a user in English Wikipedia with over 55,000 edits who has been editing for over 8 years [7]. I have never been blocked in en.wiki, nor on any Wikimedia project except for Wikimedia Commons due to a misunderstanding [8]. Today most of my edits in Wikipedia are related to the Aromanians. I do not speak Aromanian but I do speak Romanian, as they are closely related languages, and I believe the closeness of the two will allow me to do maintenance on the wiki such as deletion of improper pages without difficulty, which is my aim with this proposal. I propose that I am put on a trial period for some months. Super Dromaeosaurus (talk) 15:24, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - yes, regardless of whether there is a local community or not, you still need to open a local discussion, wait for at least a week and come back here, and we can evaluate whether to grant you. It doesn't necessarily have to get any participation, but there must be a discussion. Please do so first. EPIC (talk) 15:28, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. It'd have to be in the Community Portal, right? Super Dromaeosaurus (talk) 15:32, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unless there is a dedicated page for requesting adminship, then yes, something like a local village pump or community portal would be the right place. EPIC (talk) 15:34, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have started it [9]. Surely it must be the correct place per this message [10]. Should this request here be left open or do I have to delete it and make a new request after the week passes? I don't mind doing the latter. Super Dromaeosaurus (talk) 15:49, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, we can keep this on hold until a week has passed. That said,   On hold until 26 May 2024 then. EPIC (talk) 15:56, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Anass Sedrati@ary.wikipedia edit

Hello. I would like to renew my admin access in Moroccan Wikipedia (it gets expired every time after one year). I would also like to inquire how I can have a longer adminship period? (as this is my 7th request for adminship as you see in the discussion :D). Best regards -- Anass Sedrati (talk) 19:47, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  Granted for 2 years to expire on 2026-05-19. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. EPIC (talk) 19:49, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Interface administrator access edit

See Interface admin for information about this user group.

  • If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.
  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request interface administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
  • Since the end of 2018, all interface administrators are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Please, enable it before posting your request here.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew interface adminship.

  • Discussions should be open for seven days. Please request interface adminship here seven days after discussions started. This page is not the place for any discussions or votes. (For wikis with few active users, it is OK to have no comments.)
  • If you only want interface adminship for specific tasks, please state for how long and for which tasks you need it. Otherwise stewards will decide whether to assign permanent interface adminship and the duration of interface adminship. See Steward requests/Permissions/Minimum voting requirements.

Bureaucrat access edit

See Bureaucrat for information about this user group.
  • In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
  • A small project does not need bureaucrats. Currently whether a promotion is valid or not is decided by stewards. See here for a guideline.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

CheckUser access edit

See CheckUser policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
  • One-time CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by Stewards or when the mandate of the CUs has an expiry date specified in local policies.

Oversight access edit

See Oversight policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
  • For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
  • Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by Stewards .

  • When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.

Miscellaneous requests edit

Requests for permissions that don't fit in other sections belong here. Importer rights can be granted on most wikis by stewards only. Please gain local community consensus before posting a new section here.

Note that the following types of permissions requests belong on separate pages:

  • SRB — Local or global bot status
  • SRGP — Global permissions

Removal of access edit

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
  • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.

· מקף Hyphen · 19:55, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I'd say this is a bit borderline since there are only two votes after almost one month. I'm not too sure whether that would be enough or not, but I'm waiting for opinions from some other stewards before potentially processing this since it's on the weaker side. EPIC (talk) 20:02, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, thank you.
Using Google Translate you can see that the user (@יוני2023) herself requested the removal of her privileges above and before the vote. Additionally, as previously reported, the user's behavior is highly problematic, bordering on supporting vandalism, and even suggesting a little potential of unauthorized access to the account.
FYI: @Xnet1234, @AntiCompositeNumber. · מקף Hyphen · 20:11, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@מקף: I'm sorry to hear that there are these problems on hewikibooks. Could you please provide links with examples of abuse and above all that indicate the suspicion of a compromise? It would be very useful for us. Thanks :) Superpes15 (talk) 07:34, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Osk@itwiki edit

Per local inactivity policy, Osk hasn't performed any sysop action in the last 6 months, so please remove their sysop flag. Thanks (and thanks to Osk for their work). --Superpes15 (talk) 09:33, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  Done and I join in thanking them for their service as well. EPIC (talk) 10:04, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
