InstructionsEdit

SUL finalizationEdit

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically be named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

How to add an entry hereEdit

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

Example

For global rename requests:

=== Example ===
{{SRUC
|status     = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain     = global
|Oldname    = Example
|Newname    = Foo
|reason     = your remarks here
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own accountEdit

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requestsEdit

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requestsEdit

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complicationsEdit

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least one month before usurpation.

    Waiting for answer. Usupation refused. Vincent Vega msg? 08:35, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
    Hi @Adalhard Waffe:. It seems that the target said to be against this usurp. At this point, imho it would be enough to add numbers, or something else to the username (so we can proceed immediately with the rename), or maybe you would like to try to usurp "Adalhard"? Alternatively, you can try to clarify to the user what would happen with the usurp, ie that they could be renamed to another username, also because they have never made any edits with that account but, if they refuse, we cannot usurp Adalard (FYI @Vincent Vega:) Superpes15 (talk) 02:03, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
@Superpes15 and Vincent Vega: oh thank you for the information, if possible I'd try again with Adalhard. Thank you very much, --Adalhard Waffe (talk) 08:58, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
It has 2016 sockpuppet block with 0 edit. @Superpes15: you have any opinion? Vincent Vega msg? 11:53, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
@Vincent Vega: Absolutely no problem here, they're an itwiki sock, most likely an impersonation of Adalhard Waffe (who is sysop on itwiki). So we can usurp without any issue.
@Adalhard Waffe: Fatto! Però bisogna aspettare nuovamente un mese :)
  On hold until 19 December --Superpes15 (talk) 12:44, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
@Superpes15: argh :) Grazie, --Adalhard Waffe (talk) 13:14, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Var new username = "Temich";Edit

  • This is complicated. MBH you said, some ruwiki users requested to change this username, didn't you? @Superpes15:, @1997kB:, @MdsShakil:, @Nihonjoe:, @Céréales Killer:, @Martin Urbanec: some active users on renames. They may point out their opinions. Vincent Vega msg? 20:13, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
    • This seems like a technical issue that should be addressed to prevent users from creating accounts like that. If it won't break the system to rename them, I'm all in favor of it, but we may want a developer or two watching the process to make sure the software doesn't choke on it. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:29, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
      The char ; was added to character blacklist of new account names several years ago, but this user created an account earlier. MBH (talk) 00:15, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
      This is a software-related issue, and this issue should be handled by a developer or system administrator. —MdsShakil (talk) 00:23, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
I used to be for (;;) for a few months in 2016. It was a PITA to work with. The account was renamed without any issues. Cabayi (talk) 12:33, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
The account seems inactive thought and almost unused, so don't get how it's causing issues? IMO we should only rename when these problematic accounts are active. There could be many more such inactive accounts. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 13:49, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
The letter ";" is only a issue if it is in the end of the character. Thingofme (talk) 15:37, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
There are lots of accounts with the letter “;” as ending according to [1]. I tried to click the links of those usernames. Some of them do not have the problem but some of them do. I think that the best solution is to solve phab:T238285. 49.197.164.96 01:26, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Yes, ";" can be an issue iff it's the last character of the full name and the second-to-last character isn't ";" or doesn't exist (as in, it can't be accessed via adding the name after "/wiki/") – the first link doesn't redirect to the second, the second one redirects to the Main Page. However, accessing a name via appending it to "w/index.php?title=" always works, no matter whether the last character is ";". Alfa-ketosav (talk) 15:29, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
