Simple rename requests

Sonia Sevilla@global

Sonia Sevilla, the requested username is already registered, see Special:CentralAuth/NO8DO. Please pick a new name, or file a request in the usurpation section. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 12:57, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Closing as not done. Please file a new request, preferably through the form, but considering the large editcount you have, it will require supervision from a dev - please consider whether a rename is really necessary. Savhñ 01:14, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Srijan 1500@global

Srijan 1500, the requested username is already registered, see Special:CentralAuth/Gilly1500. Please pick a new name, or file a request in the usurpation section. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 17:34, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
Srijan 1500, you changed your request to "Gilly15"; however, that username is also already registered per Special:CentralAuth/Gilly15. It is also eligible for usurpation, so if you want the username, please file a request in the usurpation section. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 12:59, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Closing as not done. Should you wish to usurp an account, please open a request in the section below and notify the user you intend to usurp. Should you wish to be renamed to a different account, consider using our form which will indicate whether a username is still available. Savhñ 01:10, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

The account you want to be renamed to, Kovan, is already in use and has contributions (usurping is therefore not an option either). Should you still wish to be renamed to a different user name, please file a new request either through Special:GlobalRenameRequest or through a new request on this page. I am myself not a fan of renaming bots. Is there any reason why you can't simply create a new account instead of pushing the limits of renaming? Savhñ 16:50, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Seconded. We've been here before anyways. Bots are not concerned about their old edits being left behind under an old username so we should not be wasting resources renaming bots when operators could just create a new account and move their bot over to the new username. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 17:00, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi @StanProg:, this account doesn't seem to be eligible for usurpation. If the target user consents to usurpation, we can process this request; if they don't respond within a month or if they object, however, we can't usurp this name. Sorry. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 00:00, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Why is that ineligible? In 2014 I was allowed to usurp this user name, which had only made 21 edits, in 2001. Please note that en:Wikipedia:Changing usernames/Guidelines states that Renames are a matter of discretion and renamers may depart from the guidelines where there is good reason to do so. This is a similarly clear-cut case. — Scott talk 23:35, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Because there is a substantial portion of the community (not necessarily from enwiki, but elsewhere) that doesn't accept the need for usurpations when the target account has content contributions. We don't currently have a community-approved usurpation policy, but the one that will eventually be approved has such a requirement and that is widely followed already. The enwiki policies don't apply everywhere either... – Ajraddatz (talk) 23:44, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

@EddieGP: The requested username does not appear to be eligible for usurpation (They have made significant edits, and they don't appear to have been instantly reverted or deleted. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:22, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
@K6ka: I beg to differ in context with the phrase they don't appear to have been instantly reverted or deleted. Do you refer to deleted edits, which I of course can't see? For me global contributions page shows 37 edits in en.WP from 2003. I've clicked through the article history for each of them. Each and every of Eddies edits have been reverted instantly (most of them directly by the edit that follows, others took no more than five edits in between before everything Eddie did was reverted 100%. Out of 37 edits I just found a single one which wasn't reverted (which was a statement on a users page that "Eddie" is not identical to another user called "Michael"). It seems "Eddie" was a sockpuppet of "Michael", spammed around, was blocked and everything of him was undone, which doesn't look like significant contribution to me. Yet I don't really know if "all edits have been reverted" is a legit reason why usurpation could be done, I was just opposing to your phrase as quoted above. If 37 edits are significant enough to make this username unavailable for usurpation, no matter whether they have been reverted, feel free to set "Not done" here. EddieGP (talk) 10:43, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
If all edits were clearly disruptive, I'd agree. I have however checked his last edit, which seems to have formed the base for the article and even though the article was initially contested, it was finally kept, and Eddie was one of its contributors. Closing as not done. Savhñ 00:39, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

@Farid69: Please notify the target user on their home wiki talk page about this request (You may use Template:Usurpation requested/tr to accomplish this). An abandoned account with valid edits will not get usurped without their permission, so you may want to think of alternative new name. --99of9 (talk) 02:01, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Done The target user has been notified in their discussion page.

Regarding above suggestion I would like to inform you that I registered this name at 2004 and for ages had not used it (may signed in for rare times)! by the way few month ago I made my plan for being active and more helpful in wiki, and tried to use this account, but I couldn't login !! after investigation I find someone took this username and after their registration day when was about 11 years ago, he/she made just 6 edits in one wiki and 4 of them are 0 bytes !!
As I explained before, my current username should be changed as quick as possible because I am in uncomfortable situation and can not concentrate and being helpful for wiki projects what I started couple months ago, I have strong desire to finishing each of them on-time. The new name is reminiscent for me and would be same as mine in many Wiki's sister projects like TranslateWiki, wikitech and phabricator of Wikimedia. yours Farid69 (talk) 18:58, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Farid69 and 99of9, I'm not so sure if this username is eligible for usurpation. Their edits don't appear to have all been immediately reverted or deleted, and not all of them look like they're insignificant. Now if they consent to the usurpation, then we can certainly proceed, but if they say no or if they don't respond, we can't usurp them. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 17:27, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Así también se evita que alguien más cree esa cuenta. (English: Confirmation is provided on her user page, offering the possibility to move the Gauri account to Miss_Manzana with a detour, thereby avoiding possible later impersonation - Miss Manzana is a former admin, and using that name would possibly pose some problems) Savhñ 21:50, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Status:    Not done

Continuing from here which got archived while I was on vacation. @K6ka: Please do it. Whether the editor is currently active is irrelevant, the point here is repairing informational damage caused by the renaming of the user. Thanks. — Scott talk 01:12, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

@Scott: If there's anybody that can do anything about this, it's a steward, and I'm unfortunately not one (The most I can do is to rename the entire global account which would probably make things worse). —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 01:20, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Oh, I see, because you marked the request as not done I thought you were a steward. Hopefully one can help. — Scott talk 01:22, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
It would be technically possible to complete this request, but with the user inactive I'm not seeing any strong need to. There are no attribution issues with the two usernames, and if they ever come back the accounts can be merged. There's no way of fully merging them while the user isn't active anyway. – Ajraddatz (talk) 06:16, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Why do you not consider basic data integrity and maintaining the historical record a strong need? Like I agreed on the original post, a full merge isn't necessary, just renaming the enwiki user back to what it was. Thanks, — Scott talk 22:47, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Data integrity is already there; there are no attribution issues with changing a username, even in a forced way with SUL finalization. We could go through and fix all these errors with SUL finalization, but unless it is at the request of the user I don't see much need to. I'm not closing this as not done though, if another steward wants to action this I won't object. It just seem like a make-work project to me (not necessarily this one case, but the precedent of trying to fix every other error without involving the actual user in question). I hope that makes some sense. – Ajraddatz (talk) 01:02, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
In a purely mechanistic sense data integrity is there. But as presented to the human user of the system, it isn't. Every link to that user's user page and user talk page on enwiki is now red. Yes, you can click a red user link and be presented with a message saying the user has been renamed; but you also may not be presented with one. This extremely poor UX is a consequence of the extremely poor implementation of the system, and will probably never be resolved given current development practices. Such a situation is barely tolerable for users that were forcibly renamed for the legitimate reason of a conflict, but pointless to allow to exist in the case of a user that was renamed unnecessarily. As an enwiki admin with a particular interest in maintaining the integrity of the archive for readers - who have been our prime consideration in building this project since day 1 - I hope another steward will rectify this. By the way, regarding "make-work", I'm pretty sure you've now spent more time arguing against doing this than it would have taken to do it in the first place. — Scott talk 13:09, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Perhaps another steward would care to comment. — Scott talk 21:14, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
We can't merge local accounts into a global one - a developer needs to do that. Unless that is done, the account remains unlinked from SUL and would possibly eventually be moved back away. So, IMO, not worth the hassle. Should he be active and willing to merge his own account by accessing Special:MergeAccount, it'd be a different matter. Closing as not done. Savhñ 21:58, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

We (stewards) can move the "Mik" account into the "~mik" account (you will need to merge the account yourself by accessing pl:Special:MergeAccount), but to be clear, which username would you like to have; "Mik" or "~mik"? Savhñ 16:53, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
As I already explained, at the end I would like to have the edits on Mik, but currently I have only edits there on plwiki. So I would like to either move edits on plwiki to ~mik, and then globally rename ~mik to Mik, or move edits on other 7 wikis separately (which would be probably more complicated?). ~mik (talk) 17:02, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Please access pl:Special:MergeAccount now to merge your global account. Savhñ 17:09, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Done. Great thanks :). Should I file now a separate request to rename ~mik to Mik, or can it be done here? ~mik (talk) 17:15, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
@Mik: Done, accounts switched. Please create the userpages of the ~Mik account on the projects where you previously used that account and detail the changes that have taken place. Due to the switch in accounts, I have had to suppress the creation of redirects. Savhñ 17:27, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Not yet fully done; I accidentally renamed it to "~Mik" and will fix the capitalisation as soon as the rename has been completed. Savhñ 17:28, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Fully done; Please create the user pages of the ~mik account on the projects where you previously contributed with that account to inform of the changes that have taken place, as due to the switch in accounts I have had to suppress the creation of redirects. Savhñ 17:38, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Again great thanks :). That is what exactly I wanted to achieve. ~mik (talk) 17:41, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Target account is, in line with the current practice, not usurpable due to its contributions. There are many possible combinations for user names that are not used (or have never contributed), should you wish to be renamed. You can file a new request through this form or on this page should it involve an existing account without contributions. Savhñ 17:32, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

I noticed this user with two accounts that diverged. User was active about a full year ago on en.wikipedia. I am not fully sure what happened that caused the divergence but it would be best if the two accounts could be somehow merged. Mind that, none of these accounts are mine. -- とある白い猫 chi? 23:02, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Per Steward_requests/Username_changes/2017-02#Gwaur.40enwiki, we do not handle such requests unless the user requests it (& can prove they own both accounts), as we are not able to merge the accounts. Any user can merge their own account into the global one through Special:MergeAccount). Alternatively, file a request on phabricator. Savhñ 11:45, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
