Ah, it's not technically possible... Well, the name hasn't been such a major issue anyway. Cheers, --Homo ergaster (talk) 19:58, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
It is technically possible, but I doubt our sysadmins want to monitor the bot getting renamed. If this was a user account, it would be a different story, though we could always file a phab ticket and see if they want to allow it.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 04:41, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Borochov edit

@בריאן: what is the reason of Blocked indefinitely? Is it related to the user name? --Alaa :)..! 02:31, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
May I reply? I was drawn into a discussion which was about me, not about my user name. Other users drove it to my name. As a result, I went to undefined holiday during the discussion, because other users used wrong names of mine. My vacation made the decision, in spite of the discussion was not opened correctly. I have to add that this group of users tries now to omit another user, less than a week after they omitted me. Thus I decided to change my user name, to avoid misleading it by other users. W. Chan 2010

@W. Chan 2010: you new name conflicts with some wikis rename police, thereby you may have a problem in these wikis, for example in you name is not acceptable because (Long misleading names + names contains numbers that may be related to ID or phone NO. or anything else), so I prefer to see replay from other GR & Stewards --Alaa :)..! 20:01, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
Not done no response --Alaa :)..! 21:05, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
I believe that a long string of numbers does not necessarily is an id. My requested new name is composed of two parts, "W" as the initial of my name, and the numbers, which is the value of Pi without the decimal dot. I think that normal people with common sense will not think that it is any sort of id, but rather it is a mathematical value. Also, Alaa, your response did not directly answer my question. What I wanted is a global policy, or at least a policy of English Wikipedia. Please do not quote from policies of non-English wikis as I do not speak the language, and will not visit the site, as in the case of the Arabic Wikipedia. --W. Chan 2010 (talk) 08:50, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
@W. Chan 2010: The Global rename policy mentioned that "The users will be advised if the name is known to violate a local policy. If a name violates a local policy, the local account may be blocked by administrators on the local wiki and the user will have to resolve such a conflict on the local wiki; possibly by requesting another (global) rename." --Alaa :)..! 16:42, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
@Cyberpower678, Ruslik0, and Ajraddatz: can you put your opinion here? --Alaa :)..! 15:47, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

If the request was made 5 days ago, I would have had no problem renaming the account. It would seem it's probably better to hide some of these usernames. At this point there's no point moving the usernames to free them up, as that just opens it up to possible recreation and abuse. If you want to create an alt account now, I can rename one for you. As for the rest, I'm going to go ahead and ping Stryn and let him handle the rest as a steward.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 19:28, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
@Koavf: all of these accounts blocked indefinitely, and some of them locked globally, so please choose a one to change your name to it, also note that change of you name Koavf is not easy as you think, because you've more than 2 million edits, so change your name need a sysadmin and I don't think it's a viable use of server resources to rename an account with 2,000,000 edits. Also I'm afraid that a defect will occur during this rename process --Alaa :)..! 16:00, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
@علاء: Per the request, he doesn't want to rename his primary account. He justs wants these all to be freed up as they were created by an LTA, and possibly because he wants to create an alt account.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:28, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
@Cyberpower678: yes I noticed that, but also he wrote (I do decide to rename or have a legitimate alternate account), so I as you reply on the second part, I just like to clarify to him the first part if he decide to rename not have an alt account   --Alaa :)..! 16:34, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

@علاء:, to be clear, I want to keep my name as it is, but that account renamed so I can create it. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 22:00, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
@Artix Kreiger: If that is the case, then you should make an alternative account now through Special:CreateAccount from your main account and post here from that account to confirm it is yours. Then, when the waiting period is over, we can rename the alt account to Artix Krieger via usurpation. Nihlus 22:14, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
I have special:centralauth/Artix Kreiger 2, Is that ok? --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 22:18, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
@Artix Kreiger: That wouldn't be a good candidate given its edit count. You don't necessarily have to create a new account, though it may be easier for the renamers. We can just rename the existing account to Artix Krieger (usurped) and then allow you to create the account Artix Krieger. We still have to wait the requisite 30 days, but let us know which way you would like to go. I'll update the template accordingly. Nihlus 06:36, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Just as a clarification, we CAN rename that account, but you would have to be absolutely certain you want us to, and we would need to get a sysadmin to monitor the rename for possible complications, but it can be done.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:55, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Since the beginning, the user asked to make (Artix Krieger) available, so he can create a new account under this name. Also, if he want to change (Artix Kreiger 2) to (Artix Krieger) we can do that. Everything goes back to the user --Alaa :)..! 16:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
@Cyberpower678 and علاء: We can theoretically rename any account, but that account would not be a good candidate given my reasons stated above and given the fact that it would be an active doppleganger account, which is prohibited on some wikis (namely w:en:WP:DOPP). Nihlus 19:34, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
I think Nihlus is on the right track here. Alternative accounts should usually be identifiable as such; i.e. be "Ajraddatz_alt" rather than "Ajreddatz". The latter is just confusing. Further, the global rename policy is intended to allow users to rename their primary accounts - it speaks nothing of an endless series of alts. I think that we can, and should, be a bit more picky when processing these requests. In this case, I don't think it's a viable use of server resources to rename an alt account with 100,000+ edits to this name, and for the user to actively edit with it. Better to usurp the name, and then allow them to create it if they wish. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

@Sonia Sevilla: Do you want to withdraw this request? Savhñ 00:09, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
@Savh: look logically, currently user:NO8DO is not a "User". anyone who create a username in wikipedia is not a user. i cant wait ONE MONTH for changing my username, so yesterday i requested for change to "Chyah". there is two way for me, usurp "NO8DO" or change to "Chyah". thats all. i cant wait long. actually i want usurp "NO8DO" faster. --Sonia Sevilla (talk) 06:04, 27 February 2017 (UTC)-
@Sonia Sevilla: I can rename you to "Chyah" as soon as I get hold of a dev that can supervise the rename (which should be possible in less than a day). I can only rename you to NO8DO once the user has been usurped, which is in approximately one month. No one has any rights to take over someone elses account, and since Wikipedia is about far more than just editing. Please remember renaming is a courtesy and not a right, and that even though we accept privacy as a reason, it is certainly not an obligation, as a username can hardly be considered personally identifiable information. Savhñ 15:24, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
@Savh: Thank you. but i received an email about changing to "Chyah" :The request to rename "Sonia Sevilla" to "Chyah" could not be completed. The reason provided was: "Not possible for two reasons: 1. your account is blocked on 2. your account has over than 50 000 edits, only a sysadmin can rename such kind of accounts. Please solve the fa issue first and contact a sysadmin on meta.". there is not any way to solve the problem in Fawiki. there is no answer for me there, no sysob, no right to edit talk page, not acceptable any request, nothing. how can you solve a two-face problem when dialogue between faces is impossible? i want cancel the usurp and change my username to "Chyah". this is true :a username can hardly be considered personally identifiable information and for me, i want hide it. there are many trolls in Fawiki and other low people who used my first name for their warped ends. this is why i blocked, i want change my username bcz i am a victim of trolling in Fawiki and no one protected me. i have right or not? when not-offical people talk about "Rights", they talk about human nature and mankind. i just want change my username, thats all. everday many users change it and you accept it, i am one of them. anyway i am happy for editing with any username. --Sonia Sevilla (talk) 16:29, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
