Steward requests/Permissions

Requests and proposals Steward requests (Permissions) latest archive
This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived by a bot. Click here for a list of archives.

  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this pageEdit

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== User name@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain    = <!-- such as en.wikibooks -->
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]").

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreementEdit

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

RequestsEdit

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== User name@xxproject ====

 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain    =
 |user name =

Administrator accessEdit

See administrator for information about this user group.

  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

For permanent adminship, please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary adminship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Joseagush@ban.wikipediaEdit

As no admin in ban.wiki, I volunteer to be the first to request admin rights. The wiki still develop and already has duplicate articles and need to be deleted.Joseagush (talk) 05:56, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

H78c67c@yuewiktionaryEdit

Either temporary or permanent is fine; and I forgot to make the request last week :(, please let me know if I need to initiate a local vote again.--H78c67c (talk) 15:08, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
H78c67c, yes, kindly initiate a local vote again, please. That is the standard process we follow. --Base (talk) 23:12, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
@Base: Thanks for your reply. Is there a particular threshold for getting permanent adminship? Thanks! --H78c67c (talk) 08:11, 5 October 2019 (UTC)
H78c67c, I am afraid that given the current activity in the project permanent adminship is not possible. That being said for temporary adminship it is okay if no one votes at all, also normally each subsequent temporary adminship is given for a longer period unless there are reasons not to do that. --Base (talk) 22:06, 5 October 2019 (UTC)
@Base: I see. So obviously I could only get a temporary adminship, could I just leave a note in the community noticeboard (or relevant pages, just as I did a few weeks ago at wikt:yue:Special:Permalink/14742#管理員權限)? --H78c67c (talk) 03:37, 6 October 2019 (UTC)
@Base: Hi. Not sure if you overlooked my last message. I would greatly appreciate it if you would leave a quick response so that I could know whether the process is necessary or not. (As a matter of fact I forgot to renew my rights, please accept my apology if that caused any inconveniences)--H78c67c (talk) 10:17, 12 October 2019 (UTC)
H78c67c, hi, sorry I had little time to address the backlog here. It is better if you hold a vote just as though you would be obtaining the permissions for the first time. --Base (talk) 12:48, 12 October 2019 (UTC)
@Base: So apparently no one voted. I remember another comment on this page saying that a temporary permission could be granted as long as an announcement is made. Is that so? Thanks! (this is absolutely not urgent, as there is another admin at yuewikt, but I would appreciate it if this could go a little bit faster :) )H78c67c (talk) 11:35, 5 November 2019 (UTC)

Mirzali@diq.wikipediaEdit

We need an admin in Zazaki Wikipedia, who will hep us. Mirzali is cut out for this job, he helps a lot and he is doing a very good job. Vuzorg (talk) 19:28, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Mirzali is editing the articles of Zazaki Wikipedia for years with diligence and accuracy. As an admin he would be a great help for us other admins. --Asmeno (talk) 20:52, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

Please, start a local discussion and place a link to it here. Ruslik (talk) 08:48, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
Vuzorg, do you have an explanation on what is going on in that discussion? While I think it is valid in general, as there are genuine contributors voting, I also see it being overwhelmed by people who seem to have specifically registered to leave their vote on that page. Was there some call on social media given? In general it is a very discouraged practice. It is absolutely fine if there are few voters, but those voters should be community members. --Base (talk) 02:10, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
Dear Base! This is a new kind of sabotage. Some people don't seem to want to grow up. Where they once used to attack directly and to accuse wrongly, now they apply a new tactic. Unfortunately, this is our dilema for years in this project. I don't want to do any dirty laundry, but to clarify the matter, I have to mention some incidents of the past.
First, there is an admin who has not contributed for years. That's why he was once disempowered by the administration. However, he regained his administrative rights by lying and cheating, addressing the Kurds who supported him.
Second, there is someone who is constantly on riots with us. He uses multiple usernames and makes a mess, though he's not nearly proficient in that language. For that reason, he was also permanently blocked, which ultimately had no effect. Because he still interferes under different names.
Now a few things to me, I am one of the founders who has been involved in this project since 2006. I was also one of the administrators at the beginning. However, I was banished by the administration because I had to deal with the above mentioned persons all the time. Again, they have taken advantage of the support of the Kurds. Not to mention whether the supporters were members or not, was not important to them. The main thing is that they have reached their goal with lies and deception.
I don't know exactly who is hiding among the non-members of the community. Whether this is a game of the above mentioned persons, or even again a participation of the Kurds, I don't know as I said. However, one thing is clear, that they are at work again with their craftiness.
I hope that under these circumstances you will still make a positive decision for me. It's not about my own person, but the project is even more important to me to get on with it. With best regards! -- Mirzali (talk) 10:54, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

Kenny McFly@kl.wikipediaEdit

I'm very active in Greenland related topics in the German Wikipedia. I now want to try to build up a community in Greenland. I already have an eye on the wiki and want to fight against vandalism. Therefore I request admin rights in the Greenlandic Wikipedia, that actually is without any editors. --141.20.213.117 17:28, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

For one year. And now logged in (Cross wiki log-in does not work here?) --Kenny McFly (talk) 17:33, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
Sometimes you have to reload for CentralAuth to log you in. I agree this was more automatic (so to speak) in the past. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 17:37, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
  On hold until 10 November 2019. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 17:38, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
I'm wondering if the request was placed in the right page. Most community notifications seems to be posted at kl:Wikipedia:Saqqaa not at kl:Oqallinneq:Saqqaa. Kaare, could you please advice? (It's also a bit strange that the community portal and the Main Page are named equally but in different namespaces). Thank you. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:55, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
As there is no active community, it doesn't really matter where the request was posted. (The wiki was apparently based on the Danish Mediawiki translation, so there's probably a number of inconsistencies due to the Danish parts not having been updated since.)
Regarding the request itself: In my opinion there's no need for more administrators, unless we find one or more native speakers of Greenlandic again. I and the global rollbackers can take care of the occasional drive-by vandalism. Building a community is something I can support, but it doesn't require administrator access.

--Azniv Stepanian (talk) 07:43, 12 November 2019 (UTC)====Azniv Stepanian@hyw.wikipedia====

I appeal to you to grant me again administartor rights on hyw.wikipedia.--Azniv Stepanian (talk) 06:38, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

PANKAJ DEO@mai.wikipediaEdit

Previously, I was served as a temporary admin at maiwiki for 1 year. so therefore I would like to request to grant me permanent admin access at maiwiki. Thanks-- Pankaj Deo (Talk) 11:07, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

Interface administrator accessEdit

See Interface admin for information about this user group.

  • If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.
  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request interface administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
  • Since the end of 2018 all interface administrators are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Please, enable it before posting your request here.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

For permanent interface adminship, please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary interface adminship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

H78c67c@yuewiktionaryEdit

Pending local vote just as with the admin flag. --Base (talk) 23:26, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
Hello Base. it's worth noting that local discussion was started on Sept. 18 and no one has voted since. I'm just curious about whether that would affect the applictaion. Thanks. --Super Wang hates PC You hate, too? 08:47, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Pavanaja@tcy.wikipediaEdit

Hello I am requesting for Interface Admin rights. --Pavanaja (talk) 03:02, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

  On hold for one week until November, 7 2019; standard vote period for requests for permissions. In the meanwhile please note that interface administrator requires mandatory two-factor authentication enabled on your account. If you have not enabled it already, please take a look at Help:Two-factor authentication and/or w:H:2FA to know how to set it up. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 17:44, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
plz   On hold this request. Voting line open to this month 3೦ November 2019. 6 month's validity interface Admin Right. Next extension Reviewed Tulu Wikipedia Community --Lokesha kunchadka (talk) 04:57, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
One week hold period is over. People have supported me to become Interface Admin (link to VP given above). I have enabled two-factor authentication on my account. There is no Interface admin in Tulu Wikipedia. There is only one Admin (SysOp) and it is me. I have to enable Cite button in the Edit toolbar and hence I need the privilege as early as possible. Hence requesting to grant the permissions. Thanks.--Pavanaja (talk) 10:39, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

Bureaucrat accessEdit

See bureaucrat for information about this user group.
  • In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

JogiAsad@sdwikiEdit

Hi, Sindhi Wikipedia doesn't have a local Bureaucrat, probably since its inception in 2006. I have been working as sysop there, and I want to give check user, promote fellow Wikipedians to admin, Interface sysop rights, Grant and revoke a user's bot flag; because there is a local (KaleemBot) bot working on sdwiki, and it has also requested for flag,kindly grant me local Bureaucrat rights on sdwiki so I may perform the above tasks as per local Bureaucrat on Sindhi Wikipedia. JogiAsad (talk) 10:28, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

First, bureaucrats can not grant checkuser rights. Second, the community is too small to have bureaucrats as is demonstrated by the voting. Ruslik (talk) 20:40, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Indeed, We'have a small community, at the moment there are five active users (including me) and 5 other users were also active few months ago, hopefully they'll be active soon, all active users have been informed about the voting on their respective talk pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and Local Village Pump invitation to participate in voting can be found at the bottom of page as well as on local Village pump, it's on their will either they participate in voting or not, no one can be bounded to take part in voting, now its upto your kind decision, and I request to grant me local Bureaucrat rights as per above request. Thanks JogiAsad (talk) 06:29, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
For a local CheckUser to be successfully elected, 25 supports is needed. Before that, stewards will be responsible for local CheckUser requests.--GZWDer (talk) 12:23, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
And also that Crats cannot grant/remove CU (and/or OS): It must be requested and done here. — regards, Revi 18:27, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

CheckUser accessEdit

See CheckUser policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
  • Temporary CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by stewards.

Oversight accessEdit

See Oversight policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
  • For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
  • Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by stewards.

  • When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.

Removal of accessEdit

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted user from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
  • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.

I have been working for Mon Wikipedia (incubator) as an admin more then one year. The project is created and I would like to continue working for this project and request for adminship for Mon Wikipedia. --Htawmonzel (talk) 11:19, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

It's customary that in this cases we usually grant a very brief one month temporary adminship so you can finish the wiki setup. But if you want to have a longer adminship term, you'll need to open a vote for adminship locally. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:30, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
