During a Checkuser investigation of vandal activity on simple:wp, multiple SUL accounts were discovered which have been used for cross wiki vandalism. The main target seems to be the Russian wikipedia and most of the accounts were locally blocked there and are now blocked on simple as well but can be used elsewhere
Mitrius. (imposter of ru: admin Mitrius)
Хуй вам в рот, мудилы ссаные!
Rk65 (used to create the already locked account 'Ярослав Блантер (пидарас)')
The first three were created on Simple, the last was on idwiki. The range used by the vandal has been blocked for the time being at Simple and should not be creating any more accounts there for a few months. Creol 11:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
This guy has started a recent blaze of vandalism, having hit and been blocked indef on 11 wikis so far. Can someone lock it down so he can't do any more damage? He doesn't have an SUL account now, though. Cassandra 06:41, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

I am an admin on kn wiki as ಶುಶ್ರುತ which is the same name as kn:User:Shushruth in Kannada script. I request that these two SUL accounts be deleted so that they can be merged on kn wiki. The local 'crat has been inactive for a long time. I have confirmed that I am in control of both accounts HERE. Thanks. Shushruth 17:36, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi, first sorry but I didn't know someone put a request in my name :-(
I could partly agree with you. Those contribs are useful, but they were all done in 2006 and almost in one go. I had pretty much similar situation at de.wiki, and the target username, actually account was moved to a generic one. I really don't see any reason not to merge also this one at uk.wiktionary. Thanks for your time. Best regards. --Sanya 17:21, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello, afaik, de.wiki does not do any renames with users that have more contributions than 0. except for vandalism etc. Besides the users contributions in uk.wikt are not minor but new entries...
In de.wiki I see You contacted the user and got his acquiescence for the rename, that is something completely different. If You have something like this for uk.wikt, please let us know. Thanks. --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 13:56, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I just wanted to do the same thing, asking for approval, but present 'crat isn't able to direct me in a proper way. Please see this . Because of that I asked you for help.
There's a process of choosing a new 'crat at uk.wiktionary ().
Hope things will change with this. Anyway, thanks once again for your time. Regards. --Sanya 15:35, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I see, however a new crat might also not rename an user with contributions, I would suggest You try to contact that user on uk.wikt, maybe he responds and You can solve it as on de.wiki...
Good luck and please feel free to come back here if anything changes and You need any other assistance, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 12:21, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
The following discussion is closed: please don't discuss that here, request was sul deletion, -> done. -> closed.
closed but REOPEN !!!
Please delete global account so a conflicting (and bogous) account created automatically by SUL can be deleted (or renamed) on English Wikipedia. My main account on English wikipedia has always been "User:Verdy P" (with the capital P), but "verdy_p" (lowercase p) everywhere else; but my previous request to rename it was incorrectly performed by the local admin (it has only renamed a past "verdy_p" account to "verdy_p2004" (as I had asked) but forgot to rename "Verdy_P", and then SUL has recreated automatically an account that I did not want there! Now I have two accounts on en.WP, but the one with the lowercase was NOT wanted by me (it will have to be renamed (verdy_p2008) if it can't be deleted or merged with my current main account on en.WP...
I have asked this several times since the launch of SUL, but nothing done. It fails because SUL was activated too early and because SUL considers now that my accounts are merged (they are not). I want my en.WP account back and accessible (something that SUL forbids now).
Note: my main wiki project is French Wikipedia, and it effectively uses the username with lowercase p. The only exception was the English Wikipedia since 2004 (because I lost access to the account "verdy_p" after a failure in Wikipedia, before I could confirm the email address: the password was lost, and that's why I had requested to rename this inactive account)...
Hi, please make sure to have a valid, confirmed email in special:preferences before we delete, thanks --.snoopy. 12:51, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't understand you. All my accounts (except verdy_p2004 that is the result of a renaming action) ARE confirmed, including verdy_p (lowercase) that was autoconfirmed by SUL, taking the confirmation it had from FR.WP when it automatically recreated without notice this undesired account. Verdy_P (capital P) is also confirmed since years, just like verdy_p on FR.WP (my home wiki).
You have to have confirmed email address to avoid possible technical bugs before we delete your account. Thanks for understanding — VasilievV2 15:40, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
What can I do to confirm it other than looking at preferences where the email is already registered correctly since the begining on all accounts (except now verdy_p2004 that is permanently inaccessible since its initial creation as verdy_p in 2004)? Verdy p 15:45, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
You need to review the preferences of your local accounts listed at SUL:Verdy p and make sure that each has a valid email address confirmed, otherwise there is a risk that you will have difficulties re-adding those accounts to your global account later. WjBscribe 15:47, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
No, just make sure to have an confirmed email in Your settings in one wiki of the SULed account (bug had been fixed). That is for Your own safety, Your decision if You do it or not, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 16:07, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I have checked the 39 wikis where my username was registered in SUL; they all were already confirmed with my email address. So proceed. to the disunification so that I can have my English Wikipedia account renamed. Verdy P 21:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
NOT DONE!!! IN FACT, Now I can no longer access to the English Wikipedia:
After SUL disunification, I had asked to the EN.WP to:
rename bogous "verdy_p" created by SUL to "verdy_p2008"
rename "Verdy_P" to "verdy_p"
not alter "verdy_p2004" (inaccessible to me but I don't care about this old account).
Looking at how this was done:
The first step was requested, but
some other admin has changed it while it was being processed: "verdy_p2008" was not created, but instead deleted permanently (I don't know who did that).
Then the bogous "verdy_p" has been marked for speedy deletion (not what I requested...)
And the account "Verdy_P" that I wanted to keep (but to rename later to "verdy_p" (step 2 above) has been DELETED !!! But its pages are still there as well as the history, but not associated to any account now !!! So I can no longer access it.
In addition some admin has tried to merge "verdy_p2004" somewhat. This has miserably failed and caused my main account to become inaccessible! (you have merged the old edits made by verdy_p2004 into it, causing havoc in my main account. verdy_p2004 no longer exists as as user and you have even deleted its user page that is not publicly visible...
What did you do??? Visibly, even admins/bureaucrats don't understand the SUL caveats that I have exposed, and don't perform what was requested to them. Verdy P 04:06, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
What did we do? I'm not quite sure what we did. It sounds like the en:wp crats did not quite understand what you wanted to do and didn't do quite the right thing. Can you point to the request on en:wp where you asked? I could try to talk to an en:wp crat for you if you like. But, if I may be so bold, you perhaps might want to consider being a little less strident, we're all volunteers here. ++Lar: t/c 04:11, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
I have a copy of the email sent by will to me and to which I replied. I have contacted him by email to explain me what he did. Here is what he has sent to me regarding "[bug 13507] Account cannot be renamed to a global username" in the SUL bug database:
Your global account has been deleted and I have renamed the accounts on the English Wikipedia following your instructions. I hope everything is now in order.
On Wed, Jul 2, 2008 at 5:14 PM, Will <wjbscribe@...> wrote:
Apparently the bug that used to require people to check email addresses for every account has been fixed, so you just need to tell the stewards that you have a confirmed email address for one of your accounts - ie. your home wiki one. Then they can delete the account and I will do the renames on enwiki.
And here is my message to which he was replying:
Yes this is what I want.
My 60 and so edits on en.wp with "verdy_p" were not noticed, I did not see when SUL had overriden the logon. I don't care about the 60 and so edits, so "verdy_p" can be renamed "verdy_p2008". But anyway, how could I avoid using it to signal the problem to EN.WP bureaucrats or stewards or others?
If only SUL had warned me before creating the account... This could happen to anyone at any time, even if all his current accounts are merged: it's enough to just visit a new wiki, where your username is already taken by someone else. As long as you stay with SUL enabled, if the other person requests his renaming, your existing account o the other wiki under a different name will become inaccessible and magically replaced by another "fresh" account.
I really consider this as a serious bug of SUL. And relying on renames is the worst solution adopted to solve it; it can only be temporary but it will cause serious problems in a very near future because the number of conflicts generated by SUL automatic creations will explode, and new users will experimnet difficulties if they don't start by creating their account on the English Wikipedia before getting somewhere else.

Objet : Re: [Bug 13507] Account cannot be renamed to a global username
OK, looking into your situation, am I understanding this right:
Your global account is Verdy p however you edited the English Wikipedia as Verdy P.You asked for your Verdy P account to be renamed to Verdy p2004 and this was done. The account Verdy p was then renamed out of the way to Verdy p (usurped). However the bureaucrat that dealt with your request could not finish the process (by renaming Verdy P to Verdy p) because you had already unified your global account. You have since been able to sign in as Verdy p through your global account and have edited under that name- now having about 60 edits.
One of the problems is that the contributions of two accounts cannot be merged, they can only be renamed. It would be more straightforward had you not edited enwiki as Verdy p when the renaming process was only partly complete. What I could do is rename Verdy p to Verdy p2008 and then rename Verdy P to Verdy p. That would mean your account with the most contribs on enwiki would be part of your global login. Is this what you want. It would require your global attempt to be temporarily deleted while I did this - you can then recreate it afterwards. A request for the deletion of a global account can be made at <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/SUL_requests>. The stewards may require you to take a few simple steps before they action the request to make sure you don't lose any accounts in the process.
Does that help at all?
Really, I can't understand what Will (or someone else) has done or tried to do on my account(s) after SUL disunification. Verdy P 04:20, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

The log lies ! There's no such "Verdy p2008" account. The pages for "Verdy p" are still the old ones. And they were even marked now for speedy deletion. So this did not occur: possible bug in the admin tool. In fact only the history was moved, but NONE of the user pages and discussions. verdy_p 06:58, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
In other words, all I can make is to reimport the user pages myself from one account to the other, but leave the discussion pages where there are, marking them for speedy deletions because they are unrelated. I don't understand why thre rename operation did not move the user pages and talk pages as well... verdy_p 06:58, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
The logs do not and cannot lie. They reflect precisely what happened to the accounts. What is confusing you is that I did not move any of the relevant user pages when I renamed the account. I tend not to do that where the accounts were operated by the same person to allow the user to sort out their own userspace. You can move pages yourself by clicking on the "move" tab at the top of the screen. Hello, I'm User:Beamathan (universal account), and my nickname is Beam. This being so I created this account user:Beam to preempt anyone messing with me and because I sign with Beam so that if a user tried to goto the user page or talk page of "Beam" they wouldn't be misdirected.
Anyway, I tried to universify User:Beam, and it seems that the prior User:Beam got banned at the Italian wikipedia in October, 2007. Unfortunately I do not speak Italian and can not get unbanned through it.wikipedia.com.
Please help me, so that I can universify user:Beam.
you could ask for usurp the user Beam in it.wiki in particular HERE. It's an idea? right? :) --.snoopy. 05:28, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Help! I clicked Unify Accounts from both WikimediaCommons AND En.wikipedia and in both cases was left with a result showing that wiki as the only wiki "unified." As if each site was unified with itself, but not the other...?!? Both accounts use the same ID, PhotoBoothe, the same valid e-mail, and to the best of my knowledge use the same password. En.Wikipedia should definitely be my home wiki.
I see the shorthand SUL used, but with no upfront explanation, is that short for Single User Login...? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PhotoBoothe (talk)
According to CentralAuth, en.wikipedia is your home wiki, meta, commons, and fr.wikipedia are merged automatically. Something I note, though, is that there is a user "Photoboothe" which has Commons as its only wiki. I assume this is the problem.
The solution would be to place a request on Commons as PhotoBoothe, requesting the "PhotoBoothe" account there be renamed to something else (PhotoBoothe_old perhaps?) and your "Photoboothe" account renamed to "PhotoBoothe". Return here and tell us it's done, then we can delete both global accounts to allow the bureaucrats at Commons to perform the renames, then you simply log in as PhotoBoothe everywhere, from then on.
I'd like to make sure, however, that you understand that once you request the accounts be deleted, it's rather important that you log out of your account: If you visit the rename page again while logged in, it will simply recreate that account on Commons and cause problems with the rename. Once they note that the renames have been done, you can log back in to your newly-renamed account and merge your accounts under SUL. Also, please make sure that you have a valid, confirmed email listed in special:preferences in order to ensure you can retrieve your password if needed. Kylu 01:56, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've made that request at the suggested locale, will now log-out.--PhotoBoothe 03:24, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Once the rename is complete, you can log in and merge your accounts again, then you'll be done. Kylu 04:31, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Not sure exactly what happened, but did the user renanable SUL or something? An issue came up in renaming; details here. —Giggy 15:27, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

deleted once again. Photoboothe, please wait with the remerging until everything is renamed, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 16:08, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Gotcha. I don't care about renaming Photoboothe, just as happy to delete it and do eveything with PhotoBoothe as the global log-in. Was PhotoBoothe changed to PhotoBoothe (usurped) globally, or just on Commons? Just let me know when it is OK to re-merge the PhotoBoothe ID across the board. I want to make sure it is OK to proceed now, before I try and take PhotoBoothe global again.--PhotoBoothe 22:17, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
If You always remrege Your accounts before they got to rename You this will never finish... They can now not rename You on Commons again because You remerged 'PhotoBoothe' today, so, what to do, delete it again, if so, can You then please wait until the renames are done, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 19:35, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

I would like to merge all my accounts, but I found out that there are accounts in other wikis with the same name, that cannot be merged, as they were created by other people. However, those accounts have very few contribs or no contribs at all. Thus, according to this, the accounts Grandmaster on de.wikipedia.org, tr.wikipedia.org and en.wikibooks.org have 0 contribs, the account Grandmaster on fi.wikipedia.org has 1 edit, and the account Grandmaster on nl.wikipedia.org has 11 edits. Hi, I had recently created a SUL as Deepak D'Souza(which is the name i use on the English Wikipedia and on Wikimedia Incubator).I also had exising accounts on Marathi Wikipedia and Simple English Wikipedia with different names. However I had not entered and validated my address for the Marathi Wikipedia ID . As a result I now have two IDs on the Marathi Wikipedia. One is "डी. डी." The other is "Deepak D'Souza". Will deleting the SUL be possible.I hope it wont affect my current login on the English Wikipedia. If it doesn't please delete my SUL. Then I will request an admin on the Marathi Wikipedia (and also on Simple English Wikipedia) to rename my accounts. Thanks. --Deepak D'Souza 18:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
You don't need to delete your SUL to have your accounts renamed.
For Marathi Wikipedia: Contact mr:सदस्य:अभय नातू and ask him to rename your unwanted account ("Deepak D'Souza") to something else ("Deepak D'Souza unused" perhaps. Doesn't matter really.), and your preferred account ("डी. डी.") to the global username ("Deepak D'Souza"). While there is a warning message that will display to the bureaucrat, in this case that is normal and he can continue with the rename. I hope that's of some help to you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kylu (talk) 04:46, 16 July 2008

Thankls for your replies. Actually, that was the mistake I made. I should have put my email address on the Marathi Wikipedia account("डी. डी.") and authenticated it, but i did not do that beforehand. So when i created my SUL, it uses the new SUl iD (Deepak D'Souza) on the Marathi Wikipedia(I havent made any edits so far from the new SUl id on Marathi WIkipedia). I will try what Kylu has suggested. If it works fine then it would be great. Otherwise the SUL will have t be deleted first and then recreated right?
For birdy's question: I primarily edit on four areas: English Wp, Wikimedia Incubator(as Deepak D'Souza), on Simple English Wikipedia as "D. D." and Marathi WIkipedia as "डी. डी.". SInce Wikipedi guidelines state that it is better to use a latin script name , I would preffer to use "Deepak D'Souza" as my SUL name. --Deepak D'Souza 18:46, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

The problem I face is that my English one is en:User:Veni Markovski, while the Bulgarian one is in Cyrillic bg:User:Вени Марковски, and now I'd like to have the English account to be the same as the Cyrillic one, so that I don't lose my edits made with my English accounts. I don't know if I am formulating the question properly, though - sorry in advance; I just want to be able to login with one username, which will reflects all edits I've done. Whether this will be my English account, or my Bulgarian - it doesn't really matter. Can you, please, help? Вени Марковски 13:53, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello Вени Марковски, there is a global account registered for 'Вени Марковски' for 'Veni Markovski' not. If You want Your username renamed (whichever of both) You will have to make a request at the wiki locally if there are active crats. For en.wiki please see , if You decide to have 'Veni Markovski' be renamed to 'Вени Марковски' You don't have to ask for deletion of Your sul account, renaming works even if sul is activated (it would work also in the other direction but if You chose to abandon the username 'Вени Марковски' completely and change to the latin script I recommend to delete the sul to prevent automatic creations). Please, fix this bad behavior or unlink my en:user:AVBr account from SUL. Thanks. -- 18.104.22.168 19:18, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi, please confirm You are You by logging into en:user:AVBr and leaving a confirmation on Your talkpage, and then let us know here, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 12:49, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Joining of AVBr changes into en:user:AVB/ru:user:AVB changes will be ideal soultion, thanks. If this not possible, you may just remove AVBr (there is not much of changes), because AVB now works fine (looks like SUL allows differently-cased accounts, unlike native wiki accouting). -- 22.214.171.124 10:47, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Same to AVBf on commons: if this possible to join this account changes into AVB, it will be fine, tlse you may remove this account. To prove, that this account is also mine, see comment on AVBf user page about aliasing. -- 126.96.36.199 17:13, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Hæ again, the merging of accounts is not possible, nor the removal of accounts, we can only rename from one to another name, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 20:33, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
PS. You could make a redirect from User:AVBr or User:AVBf to User:AVB, and then only use AVB. Or if You have more contributions on AVBr or AVBf You could ask for renaming AVB to something else, then AVBr and AVBf to AVB and then something else to AVBr and AVBf and leave a redirect to AVB. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 20:35, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
This login don't seem to be used... Can I use it? Thanks

Hello, all those wikis have local crats, please ask for renames there (interwikilinks to the requestpages can be found on this page, or type special:listusers/bureaucrat into the searchfield on the local wiki), thanks. Please note that usurping might not be possible on some projects if the accounts have edits, --birdy geimfyglið(:> )=|∇ 12:43, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
unattached accounts, 0 edits, quite possible there is bureaucrat on fa: but I don't speak a word, account has 0 edits and there is no interwiki from this meta page to fa: renaming account page Phe 11:23, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Filed on your behalf. The local bureaucrats on those projects will have to accept and perform the renames for this to be completed. Please check on both those pages and here often. Kylu 02:59, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi, I am not sure how does this renaming from Shownearby to ShowNearby works. Please do enlighten me!

A bureaucrat on the English Wikipedia can rename the old account and then rename it back, but you'll need to request it on the English Wikipedia rename page. I'm not sure if the rename policy there allows for this? Kylu 01:39, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
It looks like your EnWP account was indef-blocked for link-spamming. I suspect there's no point in having it renamed there simply to fix a case issue. Kylu 01:51, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
