Reply to Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat/Archives/2020-01#Removal of +Autopatrol from User:MCC214Edit

Sorry,I don't participate this discussion,

I respond in this discussion,I tag {{Locked global account}} in LTA pages because I don't need this LTA pages blanked, keep blanked page[1] is pointless,I feel anyone LTA pages only tag {{Locked global account}}(If LTA pages is not deleted),such as [2].

I only tag {{Locked global account}} in LTA pages when this page is create by LTA and don't create in LTA pages, this edit is only replace content in LTA pages when it is create to LTA.

But if you don't like I do this,I can stop it.

--MCC214#ex umbra in solem 11:31, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

@MCC214: Glad to see you willing to engage. To be clear, just blanking is better than tagging with the template. For this page, Praxidicae blanked the page, and there is no need to tag to leave a shrine for crosswiki abusers. Please refer to en:WP:DENY for more details. Given they are LTAs, we should even take more attention not to leave such shrines as they are just happy for these "status" which we must deny them. I didn't know you will go and dig my edit history, but as all my edits, I am happy to discuss them. For this it occurs in 2018 which I am relatively new in editing and did not know so much regarding what to do or what not to do. In retrospect, I should had blanked it and not replaced with the tag. I slowly learned the art of DENYing LTA attention. I admit I am incorrect in this particular edit.
I will like to add that it is not that I don't like you doing this for starting the RFH request, I am seeing these taggings after repeated people telling you not to and you persist. If you can address all the problems regarding your meta editing, I will be all for ~riley or any sysops to add back the autopatrol flag.
As a wiki, this is a collaborative space, and while everyone can edit, we must communicate with each other and especially when your edits are being questioned by other editors. We must and will always assume good faith, but there are times where things done in good faith may be disruptive, this is when action will be taken. I hope you understand it. All the best, --Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:08, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Congratulations, Camouflaged Mirage! You now have the rights of an administrator on Meta-Wiki. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-adminconnect. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta. Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List of administrators and the Template:List of administrators. You're also allowed to subscribe the metawiki admins private mailing list. @Billhpike: We had locally blocked for a day, if they persist, ask me or at RFH for further blocks. Re:My request in Steward requests/Global#Requests for global (un)lock and (un)hidingEdit

In Global locks via Reasons to request a global lock, accounts whose names are offensive or abusive (en:Wikipedia:Username policy#Disruptive or offensive usernames, usernames that are likely to offend other contributors) are also eligible for locking.

Also,I see many users is LTA socks, you can see CU results to stewards checked zh.wiki users.

--MCC214#ex umbra in solem 10:34, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

@MCC214: Firstly, are they all socks of 420peace, if not please indicate properly for stewards to lock with the correct reasons. And are those you reported offensive or abusive in nature, I doubt all are. Many users are LTA sock is inadequate, all in the request if it is titled as "LTA socks" must be LTA socks. Please ensure more accuracy in your reports. Thanks.--Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:00, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Improve access to COVID-19 content - an observationEdit

Hi Camouflaged Mirage As you know I am not allowed to edit enwiki and simple and also not allowed to participate by proxy, but I cannot help it when I see areas that can improve the access of readers to both.

For example, I see that there are articles in both about Social distancing, but they are not included in w:Category: COVID-19 nor in w:Simple: Category: COVID-19. Is there a way to bring this to the attention of editors who are active in these projects without being accused of participating-by-proxy? I believe this will help some readers navigate around the many pages related to this disease.

Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 17:54, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

@Ottawahitech:. You are asking me to do a risky thing and not-allowed thing called proxy editing. I really can't agree to this. This message is also dangerous to me as now I cannot add the pages to these categories if I see so as I will be deemed as helping someone to circumvent a block. I am now in a difficult position. I hope you understand and it's worse you leave me a message on a project which I am sysop in which means I am aware of such conduct and if I did not warn or caution you, I might be seen as condoning such behaviour and I may be de-sysoped. Very regretfully, I had to issue you this caution: please stop these behaviours of asking people to proxy edit as it will be seen as sort of block evasion which the users that did so may be sanctioned. The only way to add / improve to the pages is by editing yourself, which needs to have you making unblock requests on simple and etc. This is the only way. Regards,Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:46, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi again Camouflaged Mirage, I did not ask you to edit for me, I asked you how I can help readers of wikipedia in this crisis without breaking the "rules". How can this be considered participating by proxy, which BTW, I cannot find a a description of here at Meta? I also have another question: am I allowed to continue editing Coronation without it being considered participating by proxy? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 04:20, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
@Ottawahitech: I think you might want to contribute in projects that you aren't blocked in (e.g. wikibooks, wikiversity) which have ample COVID related topics. You asked me to add pages to the categories in simple and en, and both you are blocked in, which is by proxy already. Well if you are asking me to edit it locally, then the local policies applies which will be en:Wikipedia:Blocking_policy#Edits_by_and_on_behalf_of_blocked_editors and for simple will be the same per w:simple:WP:FOLLOW. Of course there isn't a meta policy for this as the edits aren't on meta. For your 2nd question, edit for meta pages on meta -wiki is okay, but then please don't ask people on meta to help you edit elsewhere as you had already done in Vermont talkpage (of course, you withdrawn after advice by Alsee on your talkpage. Thanks much.Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 14:58, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi Camouflaged Mirage,

First off I did not ask you to add pages to categories on my behalf please re-read my first message in this thread, and btw you still have not answered my question.

As far as contributing to wikibooks and wikiversity:

  • Short answer: You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink.
  • A little longer: I tried both but, for reasons I prefer not to share publicly at the moment, I decided they do not suit my purpose, which right now is concentrating on helping the public in the COVID-19 crisis. And just to add: I know you are busy doing important work here, but IMIO you should spend some time checking out my contributions on the wikiprojects you sent me off to edit, instead of spending time deleting pages that I create on meta because, I assume, you figure my intention is to harm Meta the Meta community. I put effort to be transparent on both wikibooks and wikiversity and made my edits there easy to follow by non-admins using xtools.

To be continued later.... regards, Ottawahitech (talk) 16:15, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

@Ottawahitech: What exactly you wanted to ask me? You said how to raise attention to viewers to the pages which are not included into the categories. Viewership is the local community job and as long as you are blocked, you can't participate in community processes. So I answered to seek for an unblock which you didn't do so, what more do you want me to answer? And where did I delete your pages here, there is one I did as a housekeeping which you created a page which happened to be on an unregistered user, and that page was nominated for speedy deletion which I agreed. I never said your intention is to harm meta. In addition, you had 5 edits on wikiversity, 52 on wikibooks (all, not including deleted ones and some are way in 2017). Request: renewal of admin rights, can you please grant?Edit

Hi, thanks for granting me autopatrol. However, could you grant my request on Steward requests/Permissions as well? It's rather urgent, as wikinews-nl is highly prone to spamming while there are only little active admins apart from me. Thanks. De Wikischim (talk) 09:39, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

@De Wikischim: You need to start a local discussion and after 7 days, submit to SRP. If you had done these, just wait patiently for a steward to do so, I am only a meta sysop and I can't grant. :) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 10:03, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Given the COVID situation here in Singapore is worsening and we are in "circuit-breaker" lockdown, I might due to various reasons unable to handle requests. For meta sysop requests, please lodge it at RFH. For reviews of my admin actions, I all along allow reversal of my admin actions w/o consultation. I will still strive to response ASAP but I can't promise that much now. Thanks Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 13:08, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Translation administrator questionEdit

Hi Camouflaged Mirage,

The template Template:Navigation header/Working and convening remotely is marked as a translatable template on the page Working and convening remotely, but I can't translate the template itself. Is there a place where one can ask for help from translation administrators?

Thanks, DraconicDark (talk) 19:09, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

@DraconicDark: For general translation issues, please seek help on Meta:Babylon. For general translation admin help, you can approach individual TAs or RFH. For that template, it is not marked for translation, hence, it cannot be translated. Templates within pages marked for translation must be marked individually for translation before they can be translated (except things like {{TNT}}) You must set it up for translation and then marked for translation for it to be translatable. Regards,Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 19:26, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
@Camouflaged Mirage: Thanks for the reply. What I meant was that the page Working and convening remotely showed the template as {{TNT}}. I went ahead and set the template up for translation. How do I get it marked for translation? DraconicDark (talk) 20:37, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
I see it's now been marked for translation. Thanks for your help! DraconicDark (talk) 21:40, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
@DraconicDark: It wasn't me who marked it, it's Hasley who did it. For future marking requests, you might leave a message here (although I may not reply on time), so a better place will be RFH. Cheers :)Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:17, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Help with MassMessageEdit

T CellsTalk 09:01, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

@T Cells: I am not feeling that well for now, if you need help sending still do ask for the mass message access on RFH. I will think you holding the access will be okay, though I have not the time to assess in depth. Regards,Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:43, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Proving point 4Edit

I would have said that Rschen7754's statement "They have been directed to several venues (UTRS, ArbCom, OC) and refuse to use them." was my proof, although now I see that he is not currently a Meta Administrator. He has been one though, and was certainly speaking as if he still were one ("I would support a block from Meta"). But if you want to take this opportunity, as a Meta Administrator, to say that there is no contradiction, and that your position is the same as can be inferred from AGK's acceptance of a publicly filed complaint, once he had reversed the improper accusation that it was harassment, that's enough for me. You can perhaps take up the issue of Hasley's conduct in that regard on my behalf, since his opposition can perhaps still be inferred by his silence, if you wish, since it has been deemed an irrelevant distraction by Billingshurst, something he apparently thinks I can pursue by talking to the very user I was complaining had locked their own talk page to me.

As for casting aspersions, I am genuinely not aware of any specific case of me doing so, and what form of evidence required depends very much on what claim is being disputed. It is also not necessary to keep repeating the evidence, if you already did so in the first instance when you initially raised the complaint in the correct forum (e.g., if he takes issue with me saying Materialscientist illegitimately performed a CheckUser on me, he can find the proof at en.wiki, in the form of a diff to the updated guidance against "fishing" issued by the local ArbCom, and the context of me saying it as a blocked user, on my own talk page, with all the links required by an investigator already present in that page, namely in my and my alleged sock's contribs links). But unless or until Rschen7754 actually provides an example of me casting aspersions, his unevidenced accusation that I have cast aspersions, was itself, an act of casting aspersions on me.

BarryBoggside (talk) 22:14, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

@BarryBoggside: You have taken this to RFH, Babel, Billinghurst talk page etc, I am recommending one place will be better, hence, let's not continue here. I will say that you said a meta admin did that where Rschen isn't one is a false statement. I will recommend you researching more and providing diffs where appropriate. As of what Rschen said, and if it is / isn't correct, the right forum will be communicate to them. Failing which and if there are any conduct issues, then seek admin assistance. Without any communication, there is no way admins will be able or incline to act as we favour communication in a centralized locale well. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:25, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

  2. Lovehksingers have locked, but it is not have x-wiki abuse (他/她不是跨維基濫用)

@MCC214: Global locks are exclusively used for clear-cut vandalism and spam, for rest, the route is a RFC or Global ban discussion. For Lovehksingers, no comment on that, if you want to know why they are locked, please ask stewards. Lastly the number of socks used for an account doesn't determine should they be locked or not. And lastly, locks are not to be preventative, we cannot lock based on assumption they will have personally attacks. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:03, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

@MCC214: Again, if there are such personal attacks outside, then it is better to inform Trust and Safety (T&S) and if needed, file a global ban discussion. And xwiki abuse requires evidence, please provide in your requests rather than saying crosswiki abuse. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:46, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

A break?Edit

Sad to hear you'll be out of wiki for a while. I just knew there was an escalation of COVID-19 in your country. I have something to whom I must ask a Singaporean, about one of my articles. Take care and @ me when things cool down. --Super Wang hates PC You hate, too? 09:38, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

@Super Wang: Thanks for your concerns. I will say I am unable, regrettably to give a response to Singapore related articles (any other topics are fine), broadly construed. There are reasons why I am saying so. Regards Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 13:32, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Block of User:JvoixEdit

User:Jvoix is a health researcher participating in the Wiki4YearOfSound2020 campaign as a new Wikipedian. You indef blocked his account last month. Could you elaborate on the reason for the block so we can rectify the error and get him editing again? Thanks! John P. Sadowski (NIOSH) (talk) 19:35, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

@John P. Sadowski (NIOSH): I am sorry for this late reply due to incline health this may be the only reply I will give (for this short period of time), hope you understand where I am coming from. The user only edited twice, both to the userpage and part of the deleted userpage is as follows : "Prof. Voix leads the NSERC-EERS Industrial Research Chair in In-Ear Technologies ([a link to the site of this technology (removed in this reply)]) for the development of leading-edge technology ... to enable its Canadian industrial partner, EERS Global Technologies Inc., CRITIAS core research activities will include 3 areas of expertise: a)... b) ... c) ...". I will see this as unambiguous promotion as the entire page is based on the advertisement and a spam link is included. This is against the scope of meta as it's spam as well as clearly out of scope for global userpage. Given the user only intention and edit is to create such a spammy page for a person such as Prof Voix, as well as the username Jvoix, and there is no evidence of constructive edits, I had indefinitely blocked the account for promotional only account. However, given your statement here, I will unblock the account given the account do not persist in such behaviour. I will also strongly recommend them to read COI as well as PAID and perhaps a rename will help to reduce such problems. It's okay on meta for such usernames, but perhaps not on other projects. I will suggest them to contribute in a content project rather than meta. Hope this clarifies. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 17:49, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the unblock. I know it's unusual for new users to show up on Meta, but we put our landing page here since this is an interlingual campaign so new users may create user pages here. Nevertheless, describing one's profession in too great detail in their user page isn't an appropriate basis for a indef block, since asking them to revise it or even just blanking their page would rectify the issue. Also, using one's own name as a username doesn't violate any policy. Biting newcomers is a serious problem for all Wikimedia projects, even Meta, since we depend on recruiting new contributors to further our mission. John P. Comment neededEdit

Hello. As you're a former sysop at zh.wv, can you comment at zh:v:Wikiversity:互助客栈#大量水晶球性質的電視節目頁面適合留在學院嗎?. Thanks. --Minorax (talk) 15:44, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

@Minorax: I will think it's a LTA. Seen quite a fair bit of GS action, I will recommend a block of the IPv6 range, nuke all. Should be an LTA if I recall correctly. Regards, Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:02, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
And are bus/train routes within the scope of wv? Majority of those were imported from wp. Minorax (talk) 16:24, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
@Minorax: Yes they are. There are some old community discussions (but hard to locate) but they can be accepted in zhwv. Regards, Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:27, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

{{Unblock declined}}Edit

I did not notice the message in the template; but in many wikis it is allowed to remove them. (e.g. d:Template:Unblock declined) Should we codify it or remove it?--GZWDer (talk) 18:38, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

Yes, good idea. I am typing a Babel discussion thread, will ping you there. @GZWDer:. Thanks :) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:39, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Personally I want to suggest the unblock template can be removed and admins should view the page history for any potential issues. BTW Meta:Blocking policy does not exist yet, so currenly we do not have an policy that can be amended.--GZWDer (talk) 18:41, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
@GZWDer:Sure, let us bring it to the Babel thread. Thanks much. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:49, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

Archived TOWEdit

Regarding Translation of the week/2019 translations and Translation of the week/2018 translations they are archived at Translation of the week/2019 translations/Archive and Translation of the week/2018 translations/Archive. Note that they are merged with some statistics and therefore not identical. Kind regards, Deryni (talk) 17:40, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

@Deryni: Thanks for the note. I think we have to preserve attribution for this, hence, I didn't delete but redirected those pages (they are close replicates). I cannot do a history merge for this due to parallel history. I hope the you are fine with me redirecting. Have a nice day. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:19, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
That's quite alright. Deryni (talk) 04:58, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
