Hey

Does username policy on itwiki allow blocking people for username violations, if a) it's not even user's home wiki b) they don't even edit that project. Was looking at this rename in which user blocked niether edit that project nor it's their home wiki, although the username is somewhat problematic but just curious to know because I asked the blocking admin and they said - La policy Aiuto:Nome utente è indipendente dai contributi e si attua prima che l'utente contribuisca. Thanks for your response, I was just curious because blocking a user who doesn't even edit the project or have other wiki as homewiki doesn't make sense to me and upon asking that to blocking admin I received Questa è la wikipedia in lingua italiana e queste sono le nostre policy :-). @1997kB: policies are established by communities, and admins just execute their will. Sometimes admins take action even if they disagree. Anyway, after a quick clarification the issue has been solved and the user unblocked. I wanted to make sure to deal with that first, so that global renamers could keep the conversation here without feeling any pressure. Now then, @MBq: could you please check this rename? My question is whether it has ever been decided anywhere that renamers can accept usernames with unassigned characters like ☀.--Sakretsu (talk) 15:17, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Global policy is here [1]. Actually, I hesitated granting that request. But at last decided to accept it, since our de.wp policy [2] does not interdict it. Of course, some other projects might use stricter policies, AFAIK en.wp for example forbids company names or brands as user names, which we in de.wp allow. - If User:☀ fiat lux starts to contribute somewhere where pictographs are not suitable there's time to inform him/her and then act appropriately to his/her reaction. --MBq (talk) 19:01, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

@MBq: neither do we explicitly forbid these characters on it.wiki, because we take for granted that such names would be prevented by default. Given that no discussion between renamers has occurred, I think I'll submit the matter on the mailing list and see if this goes beyond local policies or if such restriction can actually be overridden. @Billinghurst: hey :-) Well, hopefully the edits I am making will be as useful as this one, I guess. It's better than nothing, at least for the moment. About the antispoof attribute, I had never used it before, and certainly it would've been great to have a proper documentation at hand. Yesterday, I tried to get some tips from other stewards, but with no luck. However, this morning User:Daimona Eaytoy was kind enough to take a look at the extension for me and find out what it actually does beyond my expectations. I think I am good now, thanks. By the way, I can get in touch with you on IRC if you like. Css Removal of controls from MediaWiki without community consensus .

(Request on SRM / nvwiki) I saw that you removed several controls that the local Administrator 2018 falsely removed on its own without community consensus. become. Controls that are necessary to operate MediaWiki should not be removed, even if # ca-move, # ca-delete and others are usually not used on some pages. @WikiBayer: hey, thanks for getting in touch with me. The reason why I reverted part of your edits is that, as Danny pointed out, that rule is meant to improve the main page and prevent it from being moved or deleted by mistake. The same is more or less done on several Wikipedias, see for instance enwiki. I agree that the !important is not ideal, but it doesn't matter because user styles are the last to be loaded, so anyone can use display: inherit !important to override it. About the visual editor, since it's up to the local community to decide, please first make sure that it's been hidden without consensus before restoring its visibility again. Ciao, scusami nuovamente il disturbo. Su vec.wiki ho notato che quando viene a mancare una traduzione in lingua veneta sia da translatewiki e sia da wikidata (quindi suppongo sia una cosa globale) appare automaticamente il testo in lingua italiana. Sarebbe possibile lasciare l'inglese come lingua di fondo nel caso ove venisse a mancare la traduzione veneta? 初めまして、 私はAso789として山口市に関する荒らしとされてしまいました。しかし元々はwikiの差分2020年1月28日時点で”山口県の県庁所在地でありながら市内総生産では人口規模で上回る下関市に次ぐ存在[1]であり、県内において経済的に大きな求心力を持たない。”との記述がありました。確かにしない総生産は下関の次（当時実際には周南市に次ぐ3番目）でしたが、”県内において経済的大きな求心力をもたない”となっていましたが、この部分は出典もなく、検証可能な事実と言うより、解釈が入っているため独自の研究に該当するのは胃パン的に考えれば明らかである上、現実としては、県内のJAが統合され本部を山口市に置いていたり、信頼できる将来の人口予測で山口市の人口減少率が県内では圧倒的に少なく相対的集中が今後生じることなどから、求心力を持たないという記述は、偏った記述でもあり、それを修正すべく私は記事を編集しました。サッカーチームのレノファの県についても、本拠地である県の陸上競技場と、下関の陸上競技場が同格であるような記述であったため、本年度の予定ホームゲーム試合数（山口市9試合にたいし下関1試合）書きましたが、それを独自の研究とされ、さらに荒らしとまで言われてしまいました。ゲーム数は球団のHPを根拠としており、検証可能な事実で、解釈は加えていないため独自の研究と見なすのは行き過ぎと考えるのが自然と思われるにもかかわらずそれだけで荒らし扱いです。Wikiにおける荒らしは、ガイドライン上”百科事典の品質を故意に低下させようとするあらゆる編集”とされておりますが、私はそのようなことは一切意図してはおりません。編集合戦になり不適切な編集をしてしまったのは事実ですが、これは、山口市の概要において、山口市の求心力の弱さがばかりが目立つ記述であったためです。一般的な県庁所在地に比べれば人口集積も低いといえますが、国立大学や県立の施設が集中していたり、近年下関市と周南市に置いていた支店を山口市に統合する動きなどがみられる（具体例を挙げれば、郵便局の集配局の機能を下関郵便局と徳山郵便局がこれまで担ってきたものが、今は山口郵便局に統合されている）また、周南市の専門学校が山口市に移転する、JR西日本広島支社で下関地域鉄道部と徳山地域鉄道部に分かれていたのが、いまでは両地域鉄道部はなくなり山口支社が成立するなど、山口市の求心力はむしろ強まる傾向を示しています。しかし旧来の記述を守ろうとする編集者は、山口市に求心力が低いという旧来の記述に反するような編集をすれば、それをを荒らしとみなし、管理人もそれを信じて私をブロックするようになりました。旧来の独自の研究による記述や偏った内容を修正使用としただけなのですが、それを主張すればするほど荒らしと見なされ、その後、ノートでの議論も永久にブロックされる羽目になりました。仕方なく別のルートから編集をしました。確かにwikiのルール上引っかかる行為ではありますが、自分の考えを伝えるにはこうするしか方法はありません。しかし旧来の立場を取る編集者にとっては、まさに的の首を取ったかのように徹底的に叩きました。たしかにルール上筆禍行為なのでブロックも甘んじて受けましたが、ブロックが解除された後に新たな記述をすると、私を悪く思っている変種者などはここぞとばかりに私を叩いて、ノートも含め無期限のブロックに持って行こうとされ、実際わたしはもうどうすることもできなくなってしまっています。

私の編集を独自の研究と非難している編集者も別の場所では（たとえばプライメイトシティのさ差分で、明らかなBsxは独自の研究をしています。具体的には各県のプライメイトシティーの例として県内2の都市より人口の多い都市のリストを作りました。しかしこれらの都市がプライメイトシティである学術的な根拠は一切示してはいませんでした）。私は編集の経験は浅く、ガイドラインを意識はしていますが自分のものにするには不十分なところもあると思います。しかし私より古参の編集者が独自の研究を兵器で載せたり、wiki野荒らしの定義に該当するといえない編集についても荒らしと呼び、管理人もそれを真に受けるような状態です。また自分の正当性を主張すれば、ベテラン編集者は、反省の色がないとか、感情論により私を叩いてくることも日常の光景です。

私は、wikiを百科事典としてよりよいものにしたいだけです。しかし旧来の編集者と考えが合わない部分をきっかけに、荒らし扱いされ、何か書こうとしただけでブロックされたり削除されたりする状況です。

日本語版では調停委員会がありません。編集者や管理人レベルでは学術的で公正公平な判断ができていないのは明らかです。この点に関して管理人のシステムが機能していないのは明らかです。以前より、新規編集者の参入をを、古参の編集者が邪魔をするという問題はあったとの記述も見つけました。この傾向が続けば、wikiの日本語版はよくなるものもよくならず、返って悪影響を受けることが多くなるのは確実です。

この問題は私に関する者ですが、同様のことはwiki日本語版に共通する問題です。はっきり申し上げて、wiki日本語版の価値を十分伸ばせないばかりか、失墜させかねない行為が日常的に起こっていることがしさされます。スチュワートのかたは、管理人が機能していればそれには関わらない方針とのことですが、このような問題に関しては日本の管理人は明らかに機能不全に陥っています。これをなんとかできるのは調停委員会のない日本語版ではスチュアートの方でしかできないことです。

Huge thank you and a quetion

Hi User:Sakretsu, thank you very much for helping pointing out the many errors at Nias Wikipedia. Our Wikipedia has just graduated from the incubator a month ago and our community is a very small one. So others in my community and I have still to learn a lot.

I have a question if you don't mind. Is there any method to import a templat with all relevant templates and modules with it? Yesterday I was trying to make the template Infobox person work. So I started copying that one from Indonesian/English Wikipedia. But that led to many other templates and modules. I haven't even finished copying them all until now. @Leaderboard: because I shouldn't have deleted those pages in the first place. I guess you could say that the global sysop policy does not allow global sysops to do that for a reason. Since there was no emergency, it's fine. I just wasted a couple of minutes of my time, though you can still start a new discussion and discuss changes to the policy if you're interested. The GS policy does not prohibit global sysops and stewards from operating in GS-enabled wikis. The 3-admins rule was only a thing in 2010, when the exclusion-inclusion list was drawn up. Wikis with any number of admins (such as en.wikivoyage's 50) are free to opt in/out, and in that case GS and stewards should be free to operate per policy. I just re-deleted them on common sense notions that it is not a content wiki and it seemed very bureaucratic to purposely keep spam after it has already been deleted once. Also as I have been an admin of a number of former Wikimania wikis I have decided that no one should mind anyway. I guess we can discuss policy change, chapter and similar wikis are really a different kind of beast than content wikis, but to be honest I do not think this should become a big deal. --Base (talk) 15:15, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

Global lock of Gitz6666

Hello. I've been made aware that User:Gitz6666, who was active on the English Wikipedia, has been globally locked. I am unable to find public information about this lock, but they do not appear to have been blocked on the English Wikipedia (or any wiki other than the Italian Wikipedia) before they were locked. The lock reason ("violation of the UCoC, threatening and intimidating behaviour") seems a bit odd, as I can't find any evidence of this sort of behavior on Wikipedia. I've tried to ask some other Stewards off-wiki, and none of them seem to have a good explanation for why the lock was made.

Why was this lock made? Typically, we don't eject established editors from all wikimedia projects without a global ban discussion when they are still in good standing on a wiki on which they are active, and I don't think that they are eligible for a ban under the global ban policy. — Red-tailed hawk _(nest) 02:04, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
