edit

Hello! You are receiving this message as you have attended a small wiki toolkit workshop this year. If you missed attending our last feedback session on the small wiki toolkits workshops, here is a short survey that you could fill out to let us know your technical learning needs and ideas and suggestions for improving the workshop format for the next year. If you attended the feedback session, you can still fill out the survey to share ideas that you couldn't do so more anonymously during our meeting last week. We look forward to learning from your suggestions and including them in the planning for next year. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVhqgZYXQG8Fgw25xRS0n7eKMleOKy5i1tM5Ty3mGACtcTag/viewform. Name of the "Special" namespace in Nias

edit

Hello. I just noticed your comments about the translation of the "Special:" namespace at Requests_for_new_languages/Wikibooks_Nias#Note_about_namespace_Special. If the translation is wrong, it can and should be fixed independently of that request, and for all Nias wikis. Ping also User:Amire80. --MF-W 15:05, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I can do it, but I'm wondering: where does "Si tohude" come from? I see it at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T270418 , but where did @MF-Warburg get it?
When I add namespaces, I try to keep a "paper trail" that leads to a native speaker. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:46, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
That translation was provided here by User:Banio ba Hinako. --MF-W 15:59, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
It was proposed at the time by somebody who were not very versed in Nias. Tohude means stand out in Nias. The closest word to special is ni'oniagö. But most Nias speaking people just use the Indonesian word spesial. Slaia (talk) 16:44, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @MF-Warburg.
@Slaia, can you please verify that the rest of the namespaces are correct? Here's the current list:
  • MEDIA: Media
  • SPECIAL: Si tohude Spesial
  • TALK: Huhuo
  • USER: Sangoguna
  • USER TALK: Huhuo zangoguna
  • PROJECT TALK: Huhuo $1
  • FILE: Berkas
  • FILE TALK: Huhuo berkas
  • MEDIAWIKI: MediaWiki
  • MEDIAWIKI TALK: Huhuo MediaWiki
  • TEMPLATE: Templat
  • TEMPLATE TALK: Huhuo templat
  • HELP: Fanolo
  • HELP TALK: Huhuo wanolo
  • CATEGORY: Kategori
  • CATEGORY TALK: Huhuo kategori
Some possible issues that I see are:
  • "User" is "Sangoguna", but "User talk" is "Huhuo zangoguna". Is it correct that the word for user is written once with an "s" and once with a "z"?
  • Similarly, "Help" is "Fanolo" and "Wanolo". Is that correct?
But maybe the language's grammar requires it, and it's OK. I just wanted to use the opportunity to check. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 17:03, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
They are correct. The change of the word starting with s, f, etc is a grammar thing. The nouns in Nias change its first letter based on its position and its part of speech. Thank you. Slaia (talk) 18:33, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Actually, @Slaia, I need to double-check something. In Indonesian, the "Special" namespace is not called "Spesial", but "Istimewa". But in Nias, it's still supposed to be "Spesial", right? Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 07:35, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I have checked. Indonesian Wikipedia uses the word istimewa. There is also another word khusus. But the word spesial is also wide spread among the Indonesians. Thanks. Slaia (talk) 08:42, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
