Knock, knock edit

Hi Xaosflux, should we be listed in RfA @Kani Beat:'s adminship and checkuser request? I remember it while I look my contributions. Thanks. --Uncitoyentalk 19:57, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Uncitoyen no, those don't really "start" until the user transcludes them. However, feel free to nominate them for a deletion discussion if you would like. — xaosflux Talk 20:41, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for the information. --Uncitoyentalk 20:44, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Discord servers edit

if the discord servers are unofficial then how do they even get their own pages? Radon difluoride (talk) 20:48, 11 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Radon difluoride pretty much anything of use can have a page; they are unofficial in that they are not owned or controlled by the Wikimedia foundation. — xaosflux Talk 22:49, 11 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ah ok Radon difluoride (talk) 01:31, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Date Format of Template:Wikimedia birthday entry edit

Link to that Template: link

Currently in this template, the date format is fixed to j xg Y. This is not how dates are written in all languages. In this case, can adding a translation tag solve the problem? I noticed that you are a Translation administrator and I think you can help me solve this problem. If I have any misunderstanding, please tell me. If you can help with the problem, please do so as well. Thanks, LaMagiaaa (talk) 13:45, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@LaMagiaaa to the best of knowledge, no that would not fix it. Translation will change the labels, but not the format. You could change the base template to include another parameter for output parameter to change the format. That would need to be carefully planned for how you would implement it. — xaosflux Talk 14:07, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Gadget edit

Good day, please remember to update MediaWiki:Gadget-markAdmins-data.json whenever you grant sysop access to users, even if their rights are for a limited time/use. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 15:08, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Minorax thanks - wonder how much work do get rid of that manual list? (e.g. nav popups pull the groups onhover without needing the list) - guessing would prob choke on huge pages though. — xaosflux Talk 15:32, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

vanish request edit

If it is not difficult for you, it is better to link to the card where we received the request. Thanks, Neriah - 💬 - 19:59, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Neriah thanks, yes thought of that right at the end of trying to clear that batch - those are all in VRT if you want to look up further details. — xaosflux Talk 21:10, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

What happened to UTRS edit

Hello, as we previously discussed, I cannot have access to that UTRS ticket since I forgot nearly all the information about that. Can you specify the reason for declining here or by email to me? Lemonaka (talk) 05:59, 27 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Someone else closed your UTRS ticket, I think you can follow up on it by replying further there. — xaosflux Talk 10:33, 27 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Lemonaka FYI I generated an email to you from UTRS ticket 82538, I think that should let you reply back? — xaosflux Talk 21:21, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Xaosflux Sorry, but in fact I got nothing. I've checked spambox and trashbox, nothing either. Lemonaka (talk) 21:23, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sorry, I don't know a lot about UTRS - maybe just open a new ticket and mention that you lost your appeal code for your prior ticket. — xaosflux Talk 21:26, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request for recovery of rights edit

Dear Xaosflux, I've left a rather unusual request - to recover sysop rights of another user who gave them up here 4 days ago and which you removed. This person requested removal of his sysop rights as a result of harrasment campaign by a highly problematic, sockpuppet of a indef blocked user. Person for whom I request recovery of is a sysop in good standing, main person to handle technical issues, tech. admin AND he runs bot with admin rights, so it doesn't make any sense for him to give up rights. I realize this is not a typical request and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Xelgen (talk) 21:13, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Replied at thread. — xaosflux Talk 21:21, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your feedback is requested edit

Hello Xaosflux, We are conducting a poll of global renamers and stewards regarding some future toolings related to some rename requests. Your feedback is requested at the poll on VRT WIKI. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 00:16, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok, feedback notification for yourself is also a good reminder way, but why I got an Echo notification about your notification on your own talk page? Is there any bugs happened? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:51, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Liuxinyu970226 that seems odd, not sure. Do you watchlist or use the "subscribe" function on my page? — xaosflux Talk 10:13, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ahh, it looks like for some unknown reason I mis-clicked subscribe right of this section, unsubscribed. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:43, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, dear Xaosflux! How are you? I would like to draw your attention to the request for comment that I made in July, 2023. As the situation has deteriorated since then towards the open vote fraud by the bureaucrat, a timely consensus on the part of stewards has become even more essential for the implemention of rules in Belarusian Classical Wikipedia. Best wishes,—W (talk) 11:22, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Translation admin edit

Hey Xaos!

I'm working on a new campaign page for my community and I wanted to set it up for translation to have it at least in Albanian beside English. The page is here: Diaspora Edits Wikipedia 2024 (and its only subpage is here: Diaspora Edits Wikipedia 2024/Articles). Can you set it up for translation for me if you have those privileges or show me with whom I can talk to for that task? I have those rights myself in Commons, got them because of tasks like these. Are there any specific prerequisites for applying for that role here? Maybe I can get them here too for other similar future cases. - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:23, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Klein Muçi 'translation admin' just does the 'mark for translation' part, the "mark up for translation" is normal editing that needs to be done first, and you can do that. For general questions with translations here on the meta-wiki see Meta talk:Babylon. If there is a page that is marked up and just needs someone to click the translate admin button, you can also put a quick request in here: Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. We are generally fairly open in granting TAdmin access here - if you have a good reason and can demonstrate you know what you are doing with translate (especially by demonstrating a properly marked up page, especially one that uses translatable text and non-translatable variables) requests are usually successful. TAdmin access may be requested at: Meta:Requests for adminship#Requests for translation adminship. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 10:06, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you very much for the detailed answer! I set up an adminship request. If that doesn't go through, I'll mark up the page and ask for help another existing admin. - Klein Muçi (talk) 11:25, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Klein Muçi Keep in mind that the page still needs to be marked up - and the marking up doesn't require any TAdmin permissions. A TAdmin should be able to determine if a page is properly marked up or not before they mark it for translators. — xaosflux Talk 14:05, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, thank you! That's what I meant but maybe the way I've written it might be a bit hard to interpret it as such. I will either do the whole process myself or do the markings and ask an existing translation admin for help. I'm waiting if my request gets attention these 24 hours and then I'll go on with marking the page. - Klein Muçi (talk) 16:18, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
