Quarry question (inactive admins)
editHey,
I used to help meta crats with quarry:query/43505, and the actor migration broke everything. I don't recall how they mitigated it in Oct 2019.
I see you have quarry:query/40716, so maybe can you help me with changing the logics? Thanks! — regards, Revi 15:58, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- @-revi: wow that's a mouthful of a query you got there :D I should be able to look in to this in the next few days. — xaosflux Talk 16:04, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Nevermind, it looks like they've found the 'mitigation' they used for Oct 2019. Thanks for (attempting to) taking a look! :) — regards, Revi 17:16, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
Outreach Wiki is not allowing to submit a page with Twitter search link
editHi,
My name is Sailesh, I work with the education team at Wikimedia Foundation, and I received your contact from Quiddity. I am creating some pages for the team and one of the navigation box need to have this link: https://twitter.com/search?q=%23EduWiki&src=typed_query&f=live, but outreach Wiki is not allowing me to publish the page. Can you please help me in this? Best! -SPatnaik (WMF) (talk) 12:46, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- @SPatnaik (WMF): I can try, can you give me the direct link to the page you are trying to update? — xaosflux Talk 14:07, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

- @Collideatx: the "short answer" is just fill out this request form: Special:GlobalRenameRequest, and it will be reviewed. For more information you can read here: Changing username. — xaosflux Talk 11:36, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
Help
editHi, We have some problem en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.css and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.js. It's not work correct. Can you changes copy to en.wikipedia.org, and paste to diq.wikipedia.org? Xorasan talk★contribs 04:56, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Xorasan: you would need a steward for this, Steward requests/Miscellaneous may be able to help. Another option would be to promote one of your admins to "interface admin" so you can self-service. After a discussion on your local wiki, that can be requested at Steward_requests/Permissions#Interface_administrator_access. — xaosflux Talk 11:11, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
Side affects of blocks
editHi @Pigsonthewing: wanted to follow up on some things you mentioned on your talk page, if you have a moment? You mentioned that you were not able to use Special:UrlShortener while site blocked - that part is a bit understandable, but I'll look in to some options about it. You also mentioned a problem with the The Wikipedia Library. Can you provide some more information on that? I can see situations where someone might be blocked here, but should still be able to use that and will look in to some options. Thank you for any feedback if you are open to providing any! — xaosflux Talk 14:07, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- See [1] and [2]. Although I can now edit here, the unblock has not propagated, so I'm still unable to use it: At the former page, I am told "It looks like you have an active block on your account on at least one Wikimedia project. If you meet the other criteria you may still be permitted access to the Library Bundle - please contact us." The latter refers, inaccurately to the requirement as "You are not currently blocked from editing Wikipedia". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:49, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing: If you log out and back in your eligibility should refresh and give you access once again, please let me know if that's not the case. Good catch on the page wording - I've filed T255649, we'll get that reworded to be more accurate. Just for the record, this kind of block is one that we would still grant you access during if you had needed to contact us. We're primarily interested in removing access from folks with blocks related to content issues such as copyright violations, or indefinite/site blocks. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 08:39, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- The latter is the problem of trying to use technical tools to solve social issues. Why should I have to contact anyone, to ask for a solution to an issue, on a different project, caused by a bad block? And yes, logging out and back in solved the issue - but theer was nothing to tell me that. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:26, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, since you nominated the page for deletion, I had moved the offending remarks to a non-global user subpage per Special:diff/20483052. Subsequently I restored this page to the current non offending look. Hope you are okay with this. I am sort of involved by !voting but I see no further participation so I boldly moved it. I am of course required to revert if you contest. Sorry for any trouble caused. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 17:31, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

E-mail confirmation
editHi Xaosflux, I think you may help me. I registered my account in August, but I forgot to confirm my e-mail address. I've found the confirmation e-mail right now but, when I tried confirming it, a message told me it's expired. What can I do to have my e-mail address confirmed? Is it possible for a sysop like you allow me to confirm it for example by sending me a new confirmation code? Thank you for what you'll be able to do for me Xaosflux. The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.
The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!
18:25, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!

International Women Day
editSo... I disagree with one of your actions and I would like to ask you to reconsider. If you do not want to reconsider, I would like to ask you to explain exactly why you made that decision (I recognise that there might be something I am missing and that your decision is a good one. But right now, I do not get it). But please, either revert what you did, or explain why the change.
The change you made : you set up the the Central Notice Banner for Woman Day at low priority and 2 max impressions. Why ?
If I summarize
- diversity, and in particular gender diversity, is a priority of Strategy 2030. So I take it our efforts toward the events next week is something that could be supported
- to avoid multiplication of banner requests, many groups working on Gender Gap this year made the effort to actually COLLABORATE to create a global landing page (Gender gap/International Women's Day) where all gender gap activities related to 8th of March would be listed. We could have had separate pages and make dozen of requests. We worked together to avoid such a situation. Perhaps we should have done dozen of banners instead ?
- activities are not something someone can decide to join at the last minute. This requires a bit of anticipation and planning. So editors need to be aware of what will happen right now. Not on March 8th. We need the banner operating properly right now. Not only on March 8th
- the banner is limited in time. Only 10 days. It is not a big drain on readers attention
So what is the argument to set that banner to low priority ?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Twinkle related Query!
editHello Sir, Hope you are doing well. I guess you are well versed with java script. Can you help me to get twinkle on Ks Wikipedia. We are struggling to keep the project organised. Hope to hear from you soon. Thankyou and Happy Editing Iflaq (talk) 14:39, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Iflaq: hello, for assistance preparing a localization for Twinkle on kswiki please see Wikipedia:Twinkle#Use_on_other_wikis, you may also ask over at w:en:Wikipedia talk:Twinkle. You may be interested in looking at User:Xiplus/TwinkleGlobal, a single-user-supported global version that editors could fork or import. Notably, most parts of twinkle rely heavily on specifically named templates and local project pages -- so a lot of localization is needed to fork to a new language. — xaosflux Talk 14:19, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Discussion about CentralNotice Adminship inactivity and membership
editHello Xaosflux. There's an ongoing discussion happening on Meta:Babel that proposes changes to existing Meta:Central notice administrators practices. In particular: membership duration and inactivity. As a current volunteer central notice administrator, your participation in the discussion would be appreciated. Thank you, --MarcoAurelio (via MassMessage) (talk) 10:45, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Congratulations, Dear Bureaucrat!
editCongratulations, Xaosflux! You now have the rights of bureaucrat on Meta-Wiki. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Bureaucrats page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for adminship, but also Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat), before launching yourself into user rights changes. You may find these pages to be useful reading. On Meta-Wiki, the majority of the actions of bureaucrats can be reversed by the other bureucrats, except for administrator and bureaucrat status which can only be removed by a steward. You may also consider adding the page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, as it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages. Again, congratulations and welcome to the team. --MF-W 13:46, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank on page to be deleted
editHi! I saw you thanked for my edit on Template talk:Template parameter usage—and deleted the page right after that. I got an email about the thank, but no on-wiki notification: notifications and alerts disappear when the corresponding page gets deleted (if there’s any). I’m not sure what the solution could be, but please be aware that those who don’t get emails about thanks will never notice your such thanks. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 13:49, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Tacsipacsi: hmm seems like a bug (in that the otherwise successfully generated notification is being deleted when it maybe shouldn't be). — xaosflux Talk 14:20, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

editHow we will see unregistered users
editHi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Question
editHi this is CT-971 can you please direct me to someone who can about how to become an admin or if you know could you tell me. Thanks: CT-971 (16:49, 11 January 2022 (UTC))
- @CT-971: to become an admin on the Meta-Wiki, you will need a showing of community support here: Meta:Requests for adminship; however as your account appears to be very newly registered with almost no global contributions (c.f. Special:CentralAuth/CT-971) there is no chance that the community will support such a request. The good news is that most activities on WMF wiki's don't require any administrator access, especially the core activities of adding and improving knowledge content for readers. Question and Advice
editDo you think that it would be wise to delete pages that no one uses anymore and if you do can you please direct me to someone that I can bring this up to because I have been to a lot of pages that have not been viewed in five to six years.
Thanks: CT-971
- @CT-971: hello. First, please use a signature when making talk posts. As far as your question, it depends. Some pages are kept as historical records of things, so will be kept forever. See Meta:Deletion policy for information on deletion here on the meta-wiki, including why we may delete things and the processes that can be used to request various types of deletions. In general it isn't really a good use of time to go search for pages that might not be useful and start deletion discussions on them - instead only focus on pages that have significant problems. — xaosflux Talk 15:37, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

About deletion Meta:Translate extension/ru with reason "not a translation"
editHi! You recently deleted page Meta:Translate extension/ru by request from @NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh (restored now). But this request should be applied to the separate element Translations:Meta:Translate extension/18/ru, not to the whole translated page. Alas, the templates put down in the translation elements are transcluded on the main page, and this can lead to confusion. Please be careful in the future! Best wishes ;) Kaganer (talk) 07:49, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Kaganer: thanks for the catch, translation vandalism is quite a pain. — xaosflux Talk 10:53, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Kaganer and NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh: This issue can be worked around: I always use the wikitext
{{#ifeq:{{NAMESPACE}}|Translations|{{speedy|not a translation}}}}
in such cases, so that the template appears on the Translations-namespace page, but not the real translated page. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 01:02, 21 January 2022 (UTC)- @Tacsipacsi: If only SWViewer allows that when tagging. Thank you anyway. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 10:03, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Help, please
editIn trying to edit an article for publication, I can't remember how to give a full reference just once and then a short <ref> afterwards. Could you recommend someone who would be willing to help? - @Shir-El too: this is the Meta-Wiki, a project about managing other projects. It sounds like you would like help on the English Wikipedia (enwiki). Here are some pointers: (a) The most important thing is that you use a reference, so even just typing ref, typing out everything you know about the reference, and closing it is a great start. (b) Most of the enwiki editing tools have an "insert reference" button that will give you a wizard to help. (c) A long set of directions can be found here: w:en:Wikipedia:Citing sources. Finally, for general help on enwiki you can follow up here: w:en:Wikipedia:Teahouse. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 11:12, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

editHi, Xaosflux. User:Kadıköylü added a warning message to my talk page about the guidelines that basically belong to the Turkish Wikipedia. As User:Kadıköylü has mentioned the guideline, specifically about the talk page, it is in force on the Turkish Wikipedia, not Meta-Wiki. I think that should be deleted because it is independent of the content here. FYI, 1997kB. --Victor Trevor (talk) 16:21, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Victor Trevor, you have changed Styyx's explanations. Please do not ping me again. Kadıköylü (talk) 16:26, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Victor Trevor: the deletion policy doesn't cover that, it is fine for you to leave the page blank or put something else on it. — xaosflux Talk 17:44, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Abuse log
editWhy my edit on my own page had been selected as an abuse log?--Noman☆ (talk)•(contribs) 19:39, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- @আবদুল্লাহ আল নোমান আবদুল্লাহ that is safe to ignore, there is a system called the 'abuse filter' but it isn't really just about "abuse". This just indicates that the edit you made might need to be checked by someone else to see if it is problematic. Your edit seems OK, I suggest you remove your "class number" as it is can be problematic to advertise too much personal information about yourself. — xaosflux Talk 19:48, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Bot clarification
editHi xaosflux, it was not the intention that my bot would run at Special:PrefixIndex/User:Leaderbot/ on Meta - I plan to run it in mainspace (Global statistics). Would this be allowed? Leaderboard (talk) 05:33, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard I can amend that, can you create the main page for this, then will everything the bot does be a subpage? — xaosflux Talk 11:00, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- That is the main place I expect my bot to run indeed. One possible extension would be the bot sending rank updates to users that explicitly ask the bot, but I can have that run without the bot flag anyway. I've created the main page as requested. Leaderboard (talk) 13:10, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard sounds fine on both, I've noted at Meta:Requests for bot status/Leaderbot (main point was that this isn't a general bot at this time that is expected to be making edits all over the projects). — xaosflux Talk 14:07, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Modification of MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition
editHey - as you're about and an IA, could you remove the default
loading property of the addMe gadget? I believe it's conflicting with AddMe-v2 and preventing the wishlist survey "Support" buttons from working (I've 'confirmed' this by disabling the addMe gadget in my preferences, but leaving addMe-v2 enabled — the button then works as expected) — TheresNoTime-WMF (talk • they/them) 18:26, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- @TheresNoTime-WMF done for now, is v2 going to perm replace v1? — xaosflux Talk 19:09, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry I was away while all of this went down! Yes, v2 is set to replace v1. I highly doubt there's any conflicts or issue having both enabled simulatenously, but at this point it's probably easier to go ahead and complete the migration (which here on Meta mostly entails a single edit to Probox). I'll take care of this in the coming days/week. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 15:26, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

About greek admins
editFrom what I've looked a bit here at your discussions, it seems there's not much you can do. However, the Greek Wikipedia, is under the wikimedia foundation, is subject to the terms of the foundation, the administrators are obliged to comply with the guidelines and policies of the wp, don't they?. So, I want to send a memo, where I'm going to document the problem of management in the Greek bp. Can you tell me where to send it? 130.43.66.45 01:38, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
if you think my username will facilitate my request, I'll be happy to write it down. I contribute to greek wp, since 2012 i am not a new one, who don't know the policy and guidelines. Thank you, very much.
- Largely projects with active communities, such as elwiki with >1000 active users self govern. All users are subject to the foundation:Terms of Use and foundation:Privacy policy - and those are some of the few matters the foundation will likely get involved in, they most likely would never get involved in a breach of some community "guideline", or even a local community's "policy" (only the global policies that they control). What they will also almost never get involved in is anything related to content, or a communities ability to decide who may not participate on a project (e.g. local blocks and bans). If there truly is a major defect of a project's leadership the global community can step in via the RFC process here. See Requests for comment and its linked policy for information on that process. That page has some links to other RFC where contributors are seeking redress against the entire adminship of one project or another. It is very rare that local governance would get overridden - some sort of overthrow of all of a project's admins would generally need a strong showing of support from a sizable number of community members from that project (basically such a community would need to come together to enact a recall policy, then recall their admins). I don't know your situation, but if the situation is that you are blocked from elwiki and they don't want to unblock you, there isn't much that is going to happen - we have over 800 other projects that you could contribute to if you would like to try something different. — xaosflux Talk 02:35, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
Tips for processing SRP requests
editHi! Thanks for processing some SRP requests! As that might not be immediately obvious, I'd like to note that there's a guideline for determining length of permission grants: the MVR. Of course, there are times where there are reasons to deviate from it, but generally, such deviations should be explained in the closing comment. Also, we generally use a {{systmp}} template which generates a closing comment with useful information. If you have any questions, feel free to let me or any other steward know – I'll be happy to answer. Have a great day, Martin Urbanec (talk) 13:03, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Martin Urbanec thanks, looks like 3mo was recommended over 6mo for that one, I don't think we should claw it back though - based it a bit off of their other similar access on other projects. Will keep MVR more in mind for future ones. — xaosflux Talk 14:12, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks! Absolutely, I wasn't suggesting to shorten the duration granted. My message was meant to be purely informative. Martin Urbanec (talk) 20:04, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Violation of local policy?
editCan you please explain this? Bnwiki is not global sysop wiki. You should contact with a local sysop in this case. —Yahya (talk • contribs.) 18:06, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Yahya thank you checking on this. This was meant to be a suppression, not a revdel, as there are no local suppressors it was handled via a steward;s request. I have corrected that. As it was the most recent edit, I also reverted it and let the requester know that if they wanted to make that edit they would need to resubmit it. Please let me know if you have any other concerns on this matter, my apologies for the confusion. — xaosflux Talk 18:26, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks and Question
editHi @Xaosflux, thanks for adding confirmed to my work account. fwiw, I have to switch to my volunteer account when marking changes on DCW related pages for translation. Is it possible that a TA flag is added to my work account for a temporary time period? Perhaps until the DCW's Leadership plan is out. I felt that going through a long route for RfA would be uncalled for. This is just to make sure that my volunteer contributions do not get mixed up with this work account. Regards, ─ Aafi @ DCW (talk) 18:44, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- @TheAafi (DCW) it will be best to file the RfTA, there is no minimum time on that, so it may get closed quickly. Be sure to mention this is an alt account and your prior RfTA at Meta:Requests for translation adminship/TheAafi. If you only need it for a fixed period, please specify. They are indefinite by default, subject to activity requirements. — xaosflux Talk 19:15, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Help II
editHey Xaosflux, Question, I C/P my personal links (function setupPortalLinks) from en to User:FlightTime/common.js, but they don't show up live links or dead. Can you enlighten me :P Thanx, (No rush) - FlightTime (open channel) 18:25, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- @FlightTime: you appear to have defined a function, but you never called the function. On the other project you seem to be doing it via this line:
$.when( mw.loader.using(['mediawiki.util']), $.ready ).done( setupPortalLinks );
- Thank you, I'll mess around with it :) - FlightTime (open channel)
I probably did it wrong, but I can't get it to work. - FlightTime (open channel) 01:41, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- You appear to have added the trigger, but removed the definition. Honestly, if you don't understand the code that you are entering on to that page you probably shouldn't use it -- even a single character wrong can cause unexpected results. — xaosflux Talk 09:35, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
Regarding harassment by administrators
editAndriy.v and Submajstro. Who openly persecute me and monitor my contribution to the Ukrainian-language section. How about this? Andriy.v received two warnings for such actions last year, but today there are quite a few active administrators who would adequately react to their actions. Actually, both are discussing me here at the same time, accusations are being made in my direction. And both administrators don't even know about the harassment Бучач-Львів from Wikidata. I am asking such stewards to issue a warning to both admins due to their excessive involvement with me as an editor. Thank you. Jphwra (talk) 19:32, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Jphwra I can't speak for everyone, however the role of stewards is not to "issue warnings" to users on projects with active communities, especially very large communities such as that at Wikidata. — xaosflux Talk 20:47, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- no, no, here we are talking about the Ukrainian Wikipedia and the bad attitude of the two administrators. Please warn them about the inadmissibility of abuse. Thank you. Jphwra (talk) 20:54, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Jphwra ukwiki has over 40 admins and local crats, it is not our place to police their behavior. Please do not follow up with me about this directly anymore; if you think that entire project is defective open an RFC. — xaosflux Talk 23:57, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

editHi, I am unfortunately writing this while breaking Wikipedia rules because I have been unjustly banned for offense that I did not commit. I am new Wikipedia editor that started to edit 2-3 days ago and I got in a edit war which I did not was a thing or illegal at that time which made me banned for 48 hours, ban applied to my account and ip address which I completely agree with. I was being childish but then my account was completely banned by some other admin for sock puppeting which I had no idea what it was at that time. I am saying this with my completely honestly I have never been banned on wikipedia before and not seriously edited anything before, I have done some minor edits some years ago back never got any warning or messages and didn’t read any rules at that time. I say this with all my integrity yet I got banned for sockpuppeting, also I was doing editing at that time from different country so there is no way that administrator somehow thought with the logic that same ip used wiki couple of years ago and it must be sockpuppeting. Due to that I wrote at this admin’s talk page how he treated me unjustly he removed my replies and banned my IP too, while this time look I knew you were sockpuppetting and his other admin friends that I appointed sided with him. Please help me I really want to edit wikipedia pages more but if I have gotten unjustly banned because of this I will stop because there is no guarantee it will not happen again.

Date Format of Template:Wikimedia birthday entry
editLink to that Template: link
Currently in this template, the date format is fixed to j xg Y. This is not how dates are written in all languages. In this case, can adding a translation tag solve the problem? I noticed that you are a Translation administrator and I think you can help me solve this problem. If I have any misunderstanding, please tell me. If you can help with the problem, please do so as well. Thanks, LaMagiaaa (talk) 13:45, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LaMagiaaa to the best of knowledge, no that would not fix it. Translation will change the labels, but not the format. You could change the base template to include another parameter for output parameter to change the format. That would need to be carefully planned for how you would implement it. — xaosflux Talk 14:07, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Request for recovery of rights
editDear Xaosflux, I've left a rather unusual request - to recover sysop rights of another user who gave them up here 4 days ago and which you removed. This person requested removal of his sysop rights as a result of harrasment campaign by a highly problematic, sockpuppet of a indef blocked user. Person for whom I request recovery of is a sysop in good standing, main person to handle technical issues, tech. admin AND he runs bot with admin rights, so it doesn't make any sense for him to give up rights. I realize this is not a typical request and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Xelgen (talk) 21:13, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Translation admin
editHey Xaos!
I'm working on a new campaign page for my community and I wanted to set it up for translation to have it at least in Albanian beside English. The page is here: Diaspora Edits Wikipedia 2024 (and its only subpage is here: Diaspora Edits Wikipedia 2024/Articles). Can you set it up for translation for me if you have those privileges or show me with whom I can talk to for that task? I have those rights myself in Commons, got them because of tasks like these. Are there any specific prerequisites for applying for that role here? Maybe I can get them here too for other similar future cases. - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:23, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Klein Muçi 'translation admin' just does the 'mark for translation' part, the "mark up for translation" is normal editing that needs to be done first, and you can do that. For general questions with translations here on the meta-wiki see Meta talk:Babylon. If there is a page that is marked up and just needs someone to click the translate admin button, you can also put a quick request in here: Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. We are generally fairly open in granting TAdmin access here - if you have a good reason and can demonstrate you know what you are doing with translate (especially by demonstrating a properly marked up page, especially one that uses translatable text and non-translatable variables) requests are usually successful. TAdmin access may be requested at: Meta:Requests for adminship#Requests for translation adminship. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 10:06, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the detailed answer! I set up an adminship request. If that doesn't go through, I'll mark up the page and ask for help another existing admin. - Klein Muçi (talk) 11:25, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Klein Muçi Keep in mind that the page still needs to be marked up - and the marking up doesn't require any TAdmin permissions. A TAdmin should be able to determine if a page is properly marked up or not before they mark it for translators. — xaosflux Talk 14:05, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, thank you! That's what I meant but maybe the way I've written it might be a bit hard to interpret it as such. I will either do the whole process myself or do the markings and ask an existing translation admin for help. I'm waiting if my request gets attention these 24 hours and then I'll go on with marking the page. - Klein Muçi (talk) 16:18, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Help on a multiple account 2FA requests
editHello Xaosflux,
I have five alternate accounts that I would like to have 2FA access, however I have no idea how to place multiple request on the request talk page, hoping you can help. Sorry, kinda ignorant on meta procedures :P - FlightTime (open channel) 18:44, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- @FlightTime you realize this is a bad idea right? 2FA is poorly supported, especially for account types that aren't required and are rarely used. — xaosflux Talk 18:54, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- @FlightTime but assuming the accounts have a strong linkage between them (either you actually created the other accounts while logged in, or the other account has acknowledged you are the sockmaster) - you can just drop 5 requests on SRGP, one for each of your accounts. Just put the other account name on it, in the comments sign it yourself (and include a link to where alt-account ownership is logged). — xaosflux Talk 18:56, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, maybe I'll ponder it for awhile, all the accounts have both linkage, I've created all accounts, 3 are from my rename years ago, the other two are Doppelgänger accounts. Haven't had any security issues, so maybe it's too much. As always thank you for your time and for all you do. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 19:06, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- @FlightTime FWIW I have a bunch of test accounts, etc - I don't bother with 2FA on them. Just strong unique passwords. — xaosflux Talk 19:29, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, I have very strong PW's on all my accounts, so I'm not going to worry too much unless issues arise. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 19:51, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
