Warning

The 2024 steward elections are finished. No further votes will be accepted.

The 2024-25 Confirmation will begin on February 6, and will finish on February 27.

The 2024-25 Steward Confirmations are an opportunity for the Wikimedia community to comment on the performance of existing stewards. To make the process as smooth as possible, the confirmations are organized as follows.

To comment, please log in with an account that has edits (on any wiki) before February 6. During the 2024 Elections, please mention if you are comfortable or unhappy with the use of steward tools of any of the people listed below and why.

After the election, stewards (including the newly-elected ones) are invited to review the confirmation comments and to give their impression of the outcome (consensus to confirm/remove etc.) on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2024 for every steward who stood for confirmation. Of course, they are not required to do this for every candidate and will be especially careful to do it regarding someone about whom they expressed strong opinions in the confirmation. Non-steward comments are welcome outside of the "Final Decision" section, subject to the usual expectations of civility. Confirmation discussions will last one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards. This may be extended to two weeks for one or more confirmations at the discretion of the Election Committee if the committee believes further input is required before concluding. The Election Committee will close these discussions and implement the outcome (which also means making a decision in non-obvious cases).

All stewards elected before February 2024 will undergo this process.

  • Personal info: With this being my third confirmation, I have found my role to expand a lot over this past year. As we engage with the WMF more and more, and anti-abuse priorities become more and more critical, I find my advocacy tasks expanding very fast - and has taken a good chunk of my time in the second half of 2023. I envision this to continue to increase. Beyond that, I'm working on sustainability programs such as the Steward clerks or finalizing UTRS 3.0 to give stewards another leg up in handling un(b)lock requests. I'm also in early consultations to build a tool for stewards that would manage requests from every venue that exists, beyond my initial command line tools I've built. I also stop by the main stewards noticeboards when I can to assist. I view my role this coming year to remain exactly in these departments, and to expand in them, building us a better chance to encourage, attract and retain more stewards. -- Amanda (she/her) 00:40, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello! This is my second reconfirmation. Over the past year, I have continued to focus primarily on anti-abuse work at SRG, appeals on VRT and UTRS, and oversight requests. I am active in responding to urgent requests on IRC, and regularly attend Steward-WMF coordination calls. I was less active this year compared to the previous two because of real life changes, and I expect to be able to continue at this level in the future. With the community's support, I would be glad to continue to serve as a steward. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:58, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello. This is my fifth confirmation.

Unfortunately, I haven't been noticeably active this year. I am still affected by the war in my country psychologically. Many Wikimedia things, such as Wikimedia Foundation persisting with all the same actions that we have been seeing during the superprotect saga and even earlier, takes further toll on me mentally.

That said some things I did do. Mostly reactive work to lock some LTAs reported privately or stumbled upon during ukwiki adminwork; suppression requests handled; a few more difficult cases on SRP closed, where I believe my long term experience managing the page was handy; a few SRM requests closed.

Not directly a steward activity as such, but as a consequence of stewardship entailed security clearance on Phabricator I was also involved in trying to mitigate the lack of communication when WMF has abruptly disabled Graph extension by relaying the non-sensitive information from the private tickets publicly.

In all fairness I would probably resign under current activity level under normal circumstances, but what makes me want to stay is the extremely low number of stewards we have currently ended up with, that even if this election would be much more fruitful than the last ones, we are still to experience lack of adequate manpower, unfortunately. I feel like any competent help is very much needed now, and I am convinced that my experience is still thus of use for everyone.

On the other hand, traditionally, I would postulate, that even if I am not to be reëlected, I am not going anywhere, and you will likely still see me somewhere around Meta-Wiki, that including some of the stewards related things.

  • Personal info: Hi, I've been a stewards since 2007 and changed my field of work a couple of times since that time. These days, I'm one of the few stewards who support governing the group. For example, I'm co-contact for the Wikimedia Stewards User Group, I held presentations about the stewards and their work in the past term and I wrote the annual report of the group for which I have to be up to date in all fields of stewards works. In this role, I also represented the stewards at Wikimania 2023 in several meetings with WMF staff, and was elected a group representee for the upcoming Wikimedia Summit 2024 for the very same purpose. I try to attend all steward calls with Wikimedia Foundation and other groups, be available on all communication channels (IRC, Discord, Telegram, …) and I'm serving in this year's ElectCom once again.

My other field of work often neither is visible in public logs: More recently, when I'm available, I returned to monitoring the global account creation log and hideusering long-term abusers (some hundreds last term). I try to be quick and block the IP address before they can create another account, which occasionally leads to some loginwiki checkuser actions. Certainly, I am not the most active stewards anymore but I'm filling some of the gaps and bring in some expertise from the early years and good connections to WMF as well. It'd be my pleasure to continue this service for another term.

  • Personal info: Hello everyone. I was elected in 2017 under previous username Defender. I have been moderately active in the past year and I would like to continue to help out as a steward for another year if the community is willing to confirm me. Questions and feedback are most welcome. Thank you for considering. — Elton (talk) 20:12, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
