You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum if you need help with something (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing!
The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support
editHello. You are receiving this message because you are active in the field of translations <3 The movement needs you! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.
A Translation Central is available to help translators figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome.
While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), we are asking your help for Chinese, Ukrainian, Bengali, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Polish, Farsi, German, Cantonese, Finnish, Hindi, Thai, Dutch, and Greek, as these also matter to affiliates! If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :) Thank you! Elitre (WMF) and Facilitators of ASBS 2019, 21:35, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
Invitations to translate
editHello, 94rain,
Community Insights/Translation/2019/1-Invitation and the other pages listed at Community Insights/Translation#Requests for translations are ready to be translated. There is a little more information about this group of invitations on the mailing list. Also, please keep an eye on that page: more pages will be ready for you soon!
Chinese is one of the key languages for this survey. Thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:18, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your help with Community Insights/Translation#Requests for translations. It's really helpful for people to get this information in their language. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:11, 19 September 2019 (UTC) |
Hi
edit94rain, I think I should create a preload for you. User:IPad365/siggy 03:22, 23 September 2019 (UTC)
- iPad365, what do you mean by that? A preload template? For what purposes? -- Regards, 94rain Talk 04:24, 23 September 2019 (UTC)
Why feed the troll?
editWhy join in with the troll? Get them locked, and then maybe you can revert, otherwise, just leave it, you just add to the noise. Tactics for trolls have to be different from the spammers, most especially when they are live. — billinghurst sDrewth 20:56, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: Noted. Normally I would revert for once or at most two rounds unless realizing it is ineffective. Will take your advice to ignore them in the first place as appropriate and simply leave them on the report. Best Regards, 94rain Talk 15:05, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.
The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!
18:25, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!

A request
editTranslations:The Wikipedia Library/1Lib1Ref/32/vi You said this is not translation. However, I have seen that in other Vietnamese translations the expression "là gì?" this is used as "What is?" eg: Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Process/Briefing/vi Phong trào là gì? and Câu hỏi và lời nhắc nhở: Tương lai chúng ta muốn xây dựng cùng nhau nhau trong 15 năm tới là gì? These translations were also created by trusted users. At this point, this page looks like a translation. Is it possible for you to review it again? Regards. --Uncitoyentalk 07:29, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Uncitoyen: Yes this page looks like a correct translation. I did not check carefully. The format of the translation looked inconsistent with the original text (# is converted to 1.) so I thought it was not a translation by mistake. I have removed the deletion template and I will be more careful from now on. Thank you for pointing that out. Regards. --94rain Talk 09:15, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- 1. appeared in all translations. When I examined it in detail, I thought it is a correct translation. I'm glad if you thought the way that I did. Good wikis. Regards. --Uncitoyentalk 09:20, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Share your feedback on the OCR improvements!
editHello, everyone! We (the team responsible for the Community Wishlist Survey) have just launched the project for OCR improvements! With this project, we aim to improve the experience of using OCR tools on Wikisource. Please refer to our project page, which provides a full summary of the project and the main problem areas that we have identified.
We would then love if you could answer the questions below. Your feedback is incredibly important to us and it will directly impact the choices we make. Thank you in advance, and we look forward to reading your feedback!

I'm letting you know in advance about a meeting I'd like to invite you to regarding the Universal Code of Conduct and the community's ownership of its future enforcement. I'm still in the process of putting together the details, but I wanted to share the date with you: 10 July, 2021. I do not have a time on this date yet, but I will let you soon. We have created a meta page with basic information. Please take a look at the meta page and sign up your name under the appropriate section.
Thank you for your time.--BAnand (WMF) 03:21, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
English Wikibooks
editHello there! Considering this wiki has some active admins, maybe the deletions can be left to the local administrators instead of the global sysops? EPIC (talk) 02:05, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @EPIC. Global sysops are allowed to fight vandals on English Wikibooks (b:Wikibooks:Global_rights_policy#Global_sysops) and I think they should at least block that IP and delete one of the obvious nonsense pages. I didn't send all pages to GSR as some of them may seem be in scope. Let me know what you think. Thanks. 94rain Talk 02:12, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- I've seen this user multiple times under different IP addresses on enwikibooks, many of the pages they have created are okay but some of them are test pages/out of scope. I was mostly thinking that this wiki does have some active local sysops (see [1]) and thus I have noticed that the global sysops sometimes decline requests regarding this wiki. Hopefully a local sysop will notice (the most active sysop edited only nine minutes ago) but otherwise it's not really a big problem if a global sysop will handle it. EPIC (talk) 02:22, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oh clearly I didn't notice an admin has been actively editing there even I had that active admin script enabled... I knew the wiki had opted-in to not use the default GS scope criteria, so I didn't really think too much. If there's an online local sysop then I should have just asked them. Thanks for the heads up! 94rain Talk 02:39, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Not a problem, either way I saw that a global sysop blocked the IP (but left the pages undeleted assumingly to leave that to the local sysops) and the pages were just deleted by Martin Urbanec.
- But, maybe I was kind of the wrong person to post this query too, considering that not very long ago I had also been using GSR to request deletion of pages on wikis with multiple active sysops, until I was also notified about the script. EPIC (talk) 02:52, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Also, thanks for noticing that old Swedish Wikibooks page - I have been deleting some old out of scope pages/test pages recently but somehow didn't notice that one.
- I have deleted it, the content translates to "a book about sustainable development is being created here" but since it's been left for almost ten years it's unlikely to be improved. EPIC (talk) 13:02, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- No problem! Yeah I checked the translation and looks like there's really no valid content there so I tagged it for deletion. 94rain Talk 22:48, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi
editAbout your SRG request for the /44, a lot of the wikis have account creation allowed, and there is no way to disable account creation on a global block. At the minimum, enwiki and enwikitionary allow account creation from the range. Also, ptwiki bans all IP editing so is an unreliable metric. Thank you for your consideration. 2600:387:F:5A13:0:0:0:6 21:12, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- This is not something that I should consider. Stewards will make a decision. 94rain Talk 23:00, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
