The proposed naming poll opened a few days ago and you can vote for as many of the proposed names as you wish, if you are eligible. Please see Travel Guide/Naming Process for full details on voting eligibility and how the final name will be selected. Voting will last for 14 days, and will terminate on 16 October at 06:59:59 UTC.

Hi. This is a reply to your IRC memo. As you might be aware, the consensus at wikidata was that all admins elected before 1 January 2013 will go under mandatory reconfirmation after three months from their election. As such, administrators appointed after 1 January 2013 (and those who pass the reconfirmation) will probably be permanent unless the Wikidata community says otherwise. And now that the project has a rule about what are the requirements to pass an RfA (min. 8 support votes and 75% of approval; which is sightly higher than the one we've been using) things have become easier and clearer for everybody. That is independent on the project having local bureaucrats or not. Stewards have granted permanent adminship on projects without bureaucrats in the past. With the current and future activity of Wikidata and the level of support required to pass an RfA there I can't any problems to Wikidata having permanent admins after that initial period. Personal opinion of course. Thanks. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 18:40, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hide reverts

Hi. In the future, if you're reloading Special:Contributions, you might want to add ?bot=1 to the URL so that the reverts are hidden from the RecentChanges (for mass-reverts). PiRSquared17 (talk) 01:55, 6 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wikiquote

Hi Jasper, I wonder if you could give us some advice about Auto spambot detection (how does it work? how can it be initiated? etc.) I am turning to you, because you created the User:Abuse filter page here, and we have a discussion about this here on Wikiquote? -- Mdd (talk) 22:02, 17 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Looks like your query has already been answered. The blocking feature should be used with caution, and personally I'd always set such filters to warn before blocking unless you can be absolutely sure there will be no false positives.--Jasper Deng (talk) 02:51, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
We are indeed getting closer, but our concern is not solved yet. Let me first explain the problem:
  • For the past year (as long as I am around) Wikiquote has been spammed by spambots every day.
  • This spam intensified about 4 months ago, from 5 to 10 to 15 spam messages a day
  • Now yesterday a new type of spambot appeared that just kept on spamming new messages. It was only stopped after it was blocked. It left about 24 messages in a short period of time.
  • And Yesterday there was just one bot, today there are two... which I fortunately already detected after 8 minutes.
Now we are looking for a tool to prevent new created users to add external links to Wikiquote (see also here). -- Mdd (talk) 12:55, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
The abuse filter is capable of setting rate limits on a per-IP or per-account basis, or alternatively increasing edit count and/or age requirements to add external links. The blocking mechanism isn't necessarily needed for this.--Jasper Deng (talk) 00:24, 19 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again, the ins and outs of the existing Abuse filter management systems are become more clear. You are right that we could/should focus on disallowing edits, not block user accounts. -- Mdd (talk) 22:29, 19 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Renaming on mw.org

Should the local rename process on Mediawiki.org should be closed and redirect people to Meta? --Rschen7754 20:57, 25 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Rschen7754: I would think so, however I would consult with at least one other bureaucrat as well (IRC is fine for that).--Jasper Deng (talk) 06:34, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Global CSS/JS migration

Hello Jasper Deng. You have global scripts in User:Jasper Deng/global.js, which you import using your local JS pages. Since August 2014, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis. Since you already import them yourself, you may experience script errors or tools being added twice. Do you want me to remove the global imports from your local pages using Synchbot (without changing any other content)? —Pathoschild 01:56, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

@Pathoschild: Yes; however, please do leave my userpages for now.--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:41, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Done! You can see the log on your archive page. :) —Pathoschild 19:41, 05 July 2015 (UTC)

I was blocked by you on Wikidata

Hello @Jasper Deng thank you for your good work on Wikidata. I was blocked on Wikidata because it was seen that i have multiple accounts but unfortunately that is not the case. I don't have multiple accounts, we are doing a training for new participants who are Librarians and that is why you see the multiple edits. We know the rules of Wikipedia and we will never want to vandalise Wikipedia or Wikidata because it is critical to our history.

We are running a training for Wikidata this is the meta page of the training WikiGlam Awareness for Librarians in Lagos State#Participants. All participants are new to Wikipedia and Wikidata and they are enthusiastic about contributing. I am one of the facilitators and i was blocked as well, so also Bussybee1812. Reasons: multiple accounts. I don't have multiple accounts, we are only training new participants. This is the block ID(This block (ID #37121) has been set to expire: infinite. The lead of the project sent a message to you but we didn't get any response from you. This is the message sent to you by her

Thank you for your understanding. You can check my user account for you to know that i am not in any way a sock puppet or trying to vandalise Wikidata. Semmy1960 (talk) 12:12, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
