Hello Jon Kolbert noticed that you blocked me on Wikipedia today. I want to know the reason I was blocked today. I did not know that I forget something that made the ban. I promise that I will be more careful what I write. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by XuakzmskK (talk) 20:34, 4 May 2020‎

IP Block

Dear Jon,

I noticed that you banned my IP address due to my use of a proxy address. I was using a VPN which changed my proxy adress. I usually don't use VPN while editing Wikipedia and I wasn't aware that I could be banned for that. The reason why my VPN was on was that I had to access Google Classroom. I have this glitch whenever I connect to Google Classroom without VPN it doesn't load any components. I hope you will understand that it wasn't on purpose and I had no intention of any harm!

Please remove my block as I want to contribute in developing Wikipedia in my country!

Kind regards,

DeninLunja —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DeninLunja (talk) 12:14, 22 May 2020‎

IP Error and Research Question

Dear Jon Kolbert

As you can see from the message below my IP has been blocked. I only just discovered this. I am a writer/research and PhD student in English Literature at SUNY Binghamton and was trying to submit a request for an article to be created about downloading databases. That’s when I got this error. I’m not sure I understand why but what options do I have? I’d like to keep using and hopefully contribute to Wikipedia as a citizen scholar of the world.

Also is there a more simpler method of emailing a question to Wikipedia? My question is: Is there a method for downloading data tables from Wikipedia articles for scholarly use? My example is that I am preparing a reading list for my Field Exam on 20th Century American Literature and I wanted to download the list of New York Time’s bestsellers from the 20th Century Here is te site:

But all I know how to do is copy and paste into excel. Any suggestions?

Well there you have it. My IP error and question.

Best Mark Fabiano PhD Graduate Student Teacher Department of English SUNY Binghamton

Ip blocks before 1st edit

Recently this year, there has been a discussion where you have blocked someone before they have made their first edit. Be sure to know if they are doing anything. Thank you for reading

Why are you blocking people for no reason

People have said you are blocking for no reason please stop

IP blocks exempt

Hi @Jon Kolbert: please remove block for User:Carma citrawati as its not cross-wiki spam or spambot. She is one of our local wikipedian member from Balinese Wiki. I would lovely to talk to you if you have any question. Thanks. Joseagush (talk) 05:42, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Jon Kolbert:, the user just can access ban.wiki but still can not access incubator.wiki and wikisource because you blocked her in all wikimedia project except ban.wiki. Can you removed the block for all projects? She active both in WikiKruna and WikiPustaka. Thanks. Joseagush (talk) 05:51, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Would you kindly unblock nia.wiki user Simalambuo?

Hi @Jon Kolbert would you please remove the block for Nias Wiki user Simalambuo? By chance he got the IP address today and can't write or edit anything on nia.wp, nia.wikt or incubator, where our community members are active. Is it possible that users like this are exempt, provided that they are logged in? They don't have any control over which IP address they will get when connecting to Internet. Thank you in advance. Slaia (talk) 12:44, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

@Slaia: If the user has hit an IP in global blocks then they are better applying at SRGP for that exemption.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:24, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you @Billinghurst:. I'll try to help him. We at nia.wiki are a very small community and almost all members are not tech-savvy (they only know enough to write and edit entries in our wikis and generally can't understand the English jargons), so dealing with this things is really difficult for them. It's unfortunate that they have to be affected by IP block like this. Thanks anyway. Slaia (talk) 20:25, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
@Slaia: I can see that you are an administrator at one of the wikis, if not more, you can grant local override of stewards through w:nia:special:userrights/Simalambuo and grant IP block exemption for a wiki.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:55, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
@Billinghurst:, thank you so much. I was not even aware I could do this. Now everything is set. I've exempted him, so he can edit and write in our wiki again. Slaia (talk) 10:00, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
