Stewards/Confirm/2023

Warning

The 2023 steward elections are finished. No further votes will be accepted.

The 2023-24 Confirmation will begin on 05 February, and will finish on 26 February.

The 2023-24 Steward Confirmations are an opportunity for the Wikimedia community to comment on the performance of existing stewards. To make the process as smooth as possible, the confirmations are organized as follows.

To comment, please log in with an account that has edits (on any wiki) before 05 February. During the 2023 Elections, please mention if you are comfortable or unhappy with the use of steward tools of any of the people listed below and why.

After the election, stewards (including the newly-elected ones) are invited to review the confirmation comments and to give their impression of the outcome (consensus to confirm/remove etc.) on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2023 for every steward who stood for confirmation. Of course, they are not required to do this for every candidate and will be especially careful to do it regarding someone about whom they expressed strong opinions in the confirmation. Non-steward comments are welcome outside of the "Final Decision" section, subject to the usual expectations of civility. Confirmation discussions will last one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards. This may be extended to two weeks for one or more confirmations at the discretion of the Election Committee if the committee believes further input is required before concluding. The Election Committee will close these discussions and implement the outcome (which also means making a decision in non-obvious cases).

All stewards elected before February 2023 will undergo this process.

  • Personal info: Yeah, you might have guessed by almost LATE statement: I'm not renewing.
I said I will not seek renewal if I fail to achieve same level of activity within 2022, and I see I failed to do that. (Also that my interest in Wikimedia has significantly dropped that I don't really want to bear much active responsibility for now...) I can't say for sure but I believe this is sort of hiatus and I'll be back when situation allows. Cya for now. — regards, Revi 09:13, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
PS: This is in no way implying I'll be completely gone from Wiki-sphere. I am just dropping my Steward-y hat. I'm going to keep my remaining hats. — regards, Revi 16:28, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: While I don't have a huge number of steward years under my belt to post in this statement, I am going on my 13th year as a Wikimedian, from various roles. This past year, my focus has been SRCU/SRGP/SRP, and when I feel like clearing a backlog or two, SRG. I've also been around active on off-wiki platforms for the emergency use/nature of steward tools. This coming year, I hope to have a pilot project be accepted by my fellow stewards that will help us as a group. Following that, I'm still improving UTRS bit by bit for the global processes, and hope to eventually incorporate other local communities in to the platform. I remain very active in the steward-WMF relationship and the internal maintenance of steward processes. Best of luck to everyone in 2023. -- Amanda (she/her) 01:29, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello! I was elected as a steward last year, so this is my first reconfirmation.

Over the year I have been active across a wide range of steward areas. I spent most of my time trying to keep SRG to a manageable level and responding to stewards@ tickets, but I also handled requests for permissions and closed a global RfC or two. I am also active in responding to requests on IRC and have handled many OS requests.

I intend to remain active in 2023 and would like to continue as a steward for another year with the support of the community. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 00:09, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello. This is my fourth confirmation.

Usually I prefer not to mention real life troubles when it comes to confirmations. We all travel, we all have probably had COVID by now, we all are busy with work or school at times etc. This year though I do have to mention those. A war is sadly no new experience for the large Wikimedia community, but it is new to me. It has affected my Wikimedia activity significantly. I live in Kyiv, and in the first couple of months I could edit little, Kyiv was still under direct threat and the large majority of my time was spent in a bomb shelter or trying to catch up with the news when outside. When the situation has improved so did my activity in the Wikimedia world, but it has shifted focus: Ukrainian Wikipedia community was lacking admins because of the reduced capacity overall, and I became one of the temporary admins there for a few months, and later a permanent sysop. When it was starting to feel that it isn't so bad and I even started to upload some files from my trip that I had around the time of the last confirmations happening, a new trouble has began — Kyiv is now under one of the tightest rolling blackouts schedule and its infrastructure is almost always a priority target. This limits one's capacity physically and mentally because it is just depressing being in the dark and in the cold.

With all that said I did have some activity as a steward this year. Mostly my activity was reactive. I would ban some LTAs after being poked on Discord, I would lock some accounts when I either hear myself or be poked about the news that someone has either died or was arrested. At the beginning of the war I have also helped to oversight some potentially dangerous edit histories in a couple of places when it comes to potential prosecution in either Russia or Belarus (an action that is grey zone policy wise, but was reviewed by OC and WMF and was deemed to be fine). When it comes to proactive activity, I still do check SRP and SRGP occasionally, but not as much as I used to. I think I also responded to a few VRT tickets and attended a few calls with T&S, and participated in a few internal steward discussions.

Being where I am I cannot promise that my activity would raise significantly over the next year if I am to be confirmed (I was always on the low side of it and currently it depends on a number of circumstances I just cannot have any influence on). But I do plan to be at least somewhat active, and hopefully my experience is still of value nevertheless. I am generally available to reach me via various means, but it is not always that I can react quickly. Whether I am confirmed or not I would of course continue being active elsewhere, including helping in the areas that overlap with what stewards do. As a wikiholic I cannot not to really :)

  • Personal info: Hello everyone, this term I was active in responding to requests here on Meta-wiki and on IRC. Nothing much has changed from my last year's statement, and I would like to continue being active in those areas. If the community still trusts me with these tools, I will do my best to make good use of them. Thank you :) --BRP ever 01:36, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: I have now been a steward for 12 years and this being my 11th confirmation. I have been active during the last year locking way more spambots than usual and dealing with vandalism/abuse on multiple projects. I look forward to another year of helping the future stewards and my fellow colleagues. --Bsadowski1 (talk) 08:44, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: It has been an honour to have served the community in this role. For personal reasons (mainly health-related), I have not been able to carry out steward actions for many months now (nor much wiki stuff). I will be standing down as a steward at the end of this term. Thank you for the continued support. [24Cr][talk] 13:27, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hi, a Diff blog post about my past 15 years as a steward has recently been published. This summarizes pretty much what I've been doing and still do for the stewards: Nowadays mainly organizational stuff in the background, like representing the Wikimedia Stewards User Group at the Wikimedia Summit, writing its report, sharing knowledge in calls and the internal wiki, and such. But recently, I could also rejoin IRC (besides being available on other messengers) after some technical issues which also increased my global anti-vandalism activities once again, although much of this is not logged publicly anyways. I'm looking forward to the next term, thank you for your feedback.
