Open Call for Individual Engagement Grants

The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

Wikipedia Library User Group is being renamed!

Hello! In the past few months, the Wikipedia Library User Group has been undergoing some major planning and developments. We just finished our very first open call with the user group members, which was a great success (see the meeting minutes). If you joined us during the meeting, we’d like to thank you for your interest. If not, not to worry, we have lots of things planned for the user group in which you can participate.

This message is to inform you that based on the input received from the user group members and the founding members, it was agreed that the Wikipedia Library User Group’s name be reconsidered by a voting process. Hi everyone, two quick but important updates:

Timeline for nominations and voting

• Nominations are extended until 12 January 2018.
• Candidates will be lightly vetted by the Founding Members (excluding those who are candidates) to help form a well-functioning committee.
• Vetting will happen from the 13th up to 21 January 2018.
• Voting will begin on the 22nd of January and end on the 4th of February.
• To be able to vote, editors must have joined the usergroup before the 21st of January.
• Results will be announced on or before the 10th of February.

What's new from the Wikimedia and Libraries User Group

Hi Hadi! Greetings from the Wikimedia and Libraries User Group. Yes, you heard that right! We are now officially known as the Wikimedia and Libraries User Group (previously, Wikipedia Library User Group). New group contacts are User:Merrilee and User:Sodapopinski7. The elected steering committee has been meeting twice a month ever since their election, working on the organisation and details of user group functioning. Progress is being made and we'd like to keep the members updated.

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Invitation to affiliate members to complete a survey about WMF wide Universal Code of Conduct

Hello; My name is Mervat, and I am helping the Trust and Safety team to reach out to affiliates in order to discuss the Universal Code of Conduct. I am contacting you as you are a member of the Wikimedians for Sustainable Development User Group. If you have received this from other user groups/chapters, you can ignore.

There has been talks about the need for a global set of conduct rules in different communities over time, and finally, Wikimedia Foundation Board announced a Community Culture Statement, enacting new standards to address harassment and promote inclusivity across projects.Since the universal code of conduct that will be a binding minimum set of standards across all Wikimedia projects, will apply to all of us, staff and volunteers alike, all around the globe, and will impact our work as groups, individuals and projects, it’s of great importance that we all participate in expressing our opinions and thoughts about UCoC, its nature, what we think it should cover or include and what it shouldn’t include; how it may develop, drawback or help our groups.   This is the time to talk about it. As you are a valuable contributor to the Wikimedia movement, your voice counts. Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we would like to hear from you; We invite you to devote some minutes to take this survey; your answers will help us create a safer environment for all on Wikimedia:

Community Wishlist Survey 2021: Invitation

The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.

The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!

Community Wishlist Survey 2021

We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.

In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.

We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.

View it! Tool View it! Tool update Oct. 2022 Thank you for signing up for View it! updates! As a reminder, you can view details about how to install the View it! user script or use the Toolforge tool on our meta page. Please use the talk page there to contact the team! October Update September/October Happenings View it! is now multilingual! We are currently working on tool localization. Please consider helping us! View it! now has advanced search option on Toolforge, simply toggle on to enable searching with a different property constraint, free text, specific resolution, and quality assessment. Advanced search allows for searching by Commons Categories which have an associated P373. Commons Category search will also show sub-categories for more specific results. Coming Soon We are releasing a new version of View it! that will implement some of the Toolforge functionality into the on-Wiki experience. We are thinking about ways for View it! results to show up on page as an image grid, gallery or other form, without leaving the page. Please let us know what your idea/preference is. Integrating editor features such as the ability to add an image from View it! or remove a faulty statement. Action to take Share your thoughts with us about the interface! What would you like the final product to look like? Should it be on-wiki? Preference on location of the button/link? We are open to ideas - please share them with us. Install Beta script and see how it can used to add new images to articles. All editors are invited to share the tool with their local wiki communities, or incorporate it into relevant local templates, such as infoboxes. If you do so, please let us know about it, so we can ensure backwards compatibility for that use case as we continue development!

Campaigns Product Team Office Hour - December 2022

Hello Campaigns Product Newsletter subscribers!

The Wikimedia Foundation Campaigns Team invites you to join our upcoming office hours. In each session, we will introduce V1 of Event Registration Tool, so you can begin using it for real events on Meta-wiki.

In V1, the following new features will be includedː

• Support for the organizer to specify an event timezone
• Automatic confirmation emails after participants have registered
• Private registration: the option for participants to register and only display their registered username to organizers of the event and we will teach you how you can use it yourself.

Goat View it! results View it! Tool update Jan. 2023 Big news, View it! users! Over the last two months, View it! has been expanded to two versions. Our new full version shows images within the wiki content page, and the "View" tab displays a gallery of images without leaving the site you are on, as you can see at right. We have rebranded the original version, which utilizes the "View" tab to link to our Toolforge search results, to "Lite". We invite you to switch to full version and try it out! Major changes: The full version includes an image carousel on each content page (at the top, under the article navigation buttons) which can be expanded for pagination. You may notice the "View" button has moved to between the "Read" and "Edit" buttons - the View button is in the same place for both versions and we felt this was a better placement for editors. In full version, clicking the "View" tab will take you to a full-screen gallery. Action to take Follow the installation instructions and try out the full version! Un nouveau numéro de l'infolettre WikiL@b est disponible. Pour rappel, il s'agit de la lettre d'information mise en place par les trois wikimédiens en résidence au sein des unités régionales de formation à l'information scientifique et technique (Urfist), dans le cadre d'un partenariat entre le ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche et Wikimédia France. J'en profite pour vous signaler que Juliette vient de terminer sa mission et j'arrête dans quelques jours.

C'est déjà la fin de l'été ! Et avec elle celle du contrat d'Hugo Lopez en résidence à l'URFIST Occitanie entre février 2023 et juillet 2024. Après une période de repos et de rencontres avec la communauté, place à une lettre d'information bilan de trois mois d'événements.
