Hi!

Now, we have finalized the results from the WikiGap Challenge. You can find the general and top results here. I want to thank you for your contribution, which together with the other participants have created a tremendous and long lasting impact for the visibility of women on Wikipedia.

We want to give you a barnstar for your participation, to praise your efforts for a better visibility of women on Wikipedia!

We will analyze the challenge and the way it works closely, to see how we can improve it for next year. It would be very valuable for us if you wanted to share your views on the challenge, especially when it comes to: the point system, the focus, and the adding of the list from UN Human Rights. A big thank you for organizing #WikiForHumanRights! And please give us feedback!

Both UN Human Rights and the WMF team are really grateful. Initial data suggests that this year we doubled the volume of content created and grew the campaign in languages and geographies. This kind of activation only works when we have local-organizers doing targeted outreach to their communities.

We are still learning how to organize this campaign, would like your feedback. Please fill out this survey at: this google form.

We will use the summary of findings and recommendations from the survey for the report on the campaign and for designing next year’s campaign. Our hope is to support more decentralized events, potentially with less experienced organizers -- so we need your help understanding what worked, what didn’t and what kinds of preparation we need to help communities with next year.

Wiki Loves Africa 2021-WPWP campaign prize categories

Hello Donia,

We are glad to inform you and your community about the Wiki Loves Africa 2021-WPWP campaign prize categories.

Every year, thousands of images are uploaded to Wikimedia Commons database as part of the Wiki Loves Africa photo contest.

Most of these images end up on...let's say English Wikipedia, but we believe it would be great to use these same images in the equivalent articles in different languages!

So this year, we invite you to take some time to use Wiki Loves Africa images to illustrate Wikipedia articles in various languages. And there are prizes for the most involved!

1st prize - US $100 gift card 1st to 3rd prizes – WLA souvenirs (if the post office is more efficient than it has been in the recent 18 months...)

All Wiki Loves Africa years are eligible (All pictures are available here [1]... BUT the first prize will consider edits made to any language except English and French.

To be eligible:

1. you must add #WLA as a hashtag to your edit (as well as #WPWP) 2. you must have registered your account before January 2021 3. you must have made at least 300 mainspace edits to any language Wikipedia before 1st June 2021.

On a side note, we are interested in knowing how many events your community held for Wiki Loves Africa 2021, both online and offline.

#WPWPCampaign2021: Learning and evaluation

Many thanks for participating in the WPWP campaign.

We are glad about the level of participation, this year and we are excited to inform you that over 900 volunteers around the world added photos to more than 250,000 articles in 298 languages Wikipedia. This year, we surpassed the 2020 edition's milestone by over 170%.

We are in the process of evaluating the WPWP campaign this year and we need your help. We'd love to get your feedback. Your feedback will allow us to better meet your expectations for the campaign in the next editions.

Call For Volunteer Facilitators Across Africa

The African Narrative

Dear Wikimedian,

The Africa Narrative is seeking volunteer facilitators in Egypt (two volunteers) and Senegal (two volunteers) for the AfroCreatives Wikiproject.

The AfroCreatives Wikiproject aims to support and mobilize creatives and professionals from the African creative sector, as well as enthusiasts more broadly, to contribute and enhance knowledge on Wikipedia about Africa’s creative economy. Its inaugural effort will target the film sectors of Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal.

The Africa Narrative (TAN) is a non-profit that develops singular, high-impact initiatives in support of African creatives and the African cultural and creative industries with the aim to strengthen capacity in the continent’s creative economy and the global visibility of African cultural soft power.

All volunteers must have full professional proficiency in English. In Senegal, they must have native or full professional proficiency in French; in Egypt, they must have native or full professional proficiency in Arabic. Volunteer facilitators should have a vast knowledge about Wikimedia projects and experience with teaching new editors.

Interested participants may sign up on the project's Meta page. You may also indicate your country and email if your Wikipedia account is not associated with any email address.
