Help with traslationEdit

Hi Xaosflux! Ysogo and me have prepared the page Wikipassaporto/it in Italian. We would like to translate this page in other languages with the help of some students (starting from English, French, German, Chinese and Spanish), so we need to activate the translation tool for this page. We also have Wikipassaporto/en, but it's just a stub, so it can be deleted if necessary. Could you help us? Thanks! --Yiyi (talk) 11:00, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

@Yiyi: I can't delete pages, if you made the page and want to delete it just put {{speedy|reason}} on it and a patrolling admin will get it. As far as your page to translate, it doesn't quite look ready. See Meta:Translate extension, and mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_example. Notably, you have the entire page, including table code etc all as one huge translation block. Are you really sure you want it like that? — xaosflux Talk 14:23, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
I just marked the pure single sentences with "translation" tags. The rest of table is no longer in translation tags. I believe, it is now ready for translation activation.--Ysogo (talk) 22:49, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
@Yiyi: and @Ysogo: Wikipassaporto/it is marked now. — xaosflux Talk 00:20, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! But there is a problem: the source language is Italian, but at the top of the page there is the English label. So, if I try to translate in English, there is the message "English is the source language of this page". Is it possible to set Italian as source language? --Yiyi (talk) 14:24, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
User:Nemo_bis I've looked through phab:T37489, and saw some comments from you, is our documentation missing something that will allow for non-English translation sources on meta: ? — xaosflux Talk 16:54, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
While waiting for phab:T37489, Yiyi and I have thought how to work around. One additional question we have before starting, is whether moving a page to a new title preserve the "translation stuff"? Thank you for answering.--Ysogo (talk) 08:37, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
It should, you can move a page. — xaosflux Talk 12:32, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
I just tried but I can't. Once a page is marked for translation, moving right is restricted and only translation-admin can move it. Can you please move Wikipassaporto/it to Wikipassaporto? Thank you.--Ysogo (talk) 18:46, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
I requested a deletion of the the /en page that is blocking it. Pending update. — xaosflux Talk 18:52, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Deleted. Regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:34, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
OK, Please see User:Xaosflux/Sandbox4 for what will be moved and to where - please confirm this is what you want. — xaosflux Talk 13:45, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Yes, the list is correct. Thank you.--Ysogo (talk) 18:33, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
@Ysogo: ok see Wikipassaporto. — xaosflux Talk 22:52, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. It's how we wished. Now it's up to us to make it nice. --Ysogo (talk) 23:14, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Xaosflux. Sorry to bother you again, but there's something I feel I'm not catching.
After you completed the moving, I started the work for translation. Actually I did three things:
  1. I cretaed and published the italian version of the text.
  2. I made a change to the source page to drop the "homemade" box for switching between languages (that is a part not in "translate" tags).
  3. I started "replacing" in the source page the italian text with english text. (i.e. the text between translate tags).
About the three points, my expectations were:
  1. The link italiano to appear in the "official" box for switching between languages. --> It worked as expected.
  2. The change to be effective for all language versions (which means italian and spanish so far). --> It didn't happen.
  3. To see translation statics drop and new text to be proposed for update both in italian and spanish versions. --> It didn't happen.
I have noticed the text This page contains changes which are not marked for translation.
According to mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_example#Step 4: Making changes, I'm supposed (step 11) to Click the "marked for translation" link at the top. I can't find such link.
What I misunderstood and what I'm doing wrong? Thank you in advance.--Ysogo (talk) 06:40, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
I remarked Wikipassaporto for translation. Bottom line right now, all "source" pages on metawiki are assumed to be the English version, as that is the site language. (See that phab ticket above) for requests for have multi-langugage sources. Is there anything you want me to do now? — xaosflux Talk 14:48, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank for remarking. I still don't understand how I can do it on my own. Where is the "marked for translation link" that is mentioned in the help page? It's restricted to admin only? Thank you.--Ysogo (talk) 15:09, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
It is restricted to admins and translation admins. As you see above, pages can quickly get messy with the translation extension. In the general use case an "official" page is made in the source language and edited until it is fairly mature, then translated copies are made. If the source page were to be vandalized etc, you would not want to have every single translation copy be invalidated pending new translations. — xaosflux Talk 15:14, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Well, honestly my personal opinion is that deleting, moving pages is certainly a delicate task, and it makes sense to be restricted, but marking for translation is something that can be available for at least auto-verified user. You don't expect vandalism from auto-verified. Anyway, if this is the rule on Meta, let's live with it. Thank you for your support.--Ysogo (talk) 15:23, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
@Ysogo: you may apply for translation permissions here: Meta:Requests_for_adminship#Requests_for_translation_adminship, your global contributions show a long history so you will probably get it if you ask for it. — xaosflux Talk 15:26, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Just done. Bye.--Ysogo (talk) 16:24, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello Xaosflux. Can I ask your help again. Can you please mark for translation the current version of wikipassaporto. Text now is only english and this set the baseline for the on-going translations. Thank you.--Ysogo (talk) 13:07, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Ysogo, this is done. — xaosflux Talk 13:50, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!Edit

Deutsch | English | español | français | italiano | 한국어 | Nederlands | português | русский | العربية | edit

Congratulations, Xaosflux! You now have the rights of an administrator on Meta-Wiki. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-adminconnect. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta. Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List of administrators and the Template:List of administrators. You're also allowed to subscribe the metawiki admins private mailing list. Again, congratulations and welcome to the team. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:45, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Abuse filterEdit

I wanted to leave a comment here, but I was prevented by the abuse filter. Can you see what's up with that? The message has to be in the logs somewhere; if not, here's a copy. --89.111.226.178 12:37, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi 89.111, I don't have time to debug that right now, but I placed the copy of your message on to the page for you. — xaosflux Talk 13:07, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Looking at it now, I think the message might have been caught by the filter because I used the f-word. --89.111.226.178 13:12, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
Yup that was it, it is primarily for antivandalism reasons and applies to brand new and unregistered accounts, you can bypass that filter by creating an account or logging in. — xaosflux Talk 13:54, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
While we're on this topic, could you please stop the edit warring here? The user keeps reverting to an inaccurate version that shows that certain users no longer have their rights, which is not the case. Stewards have refused to remove them repeateadly (here, here and here, for instance). --89.111.226.181 17:09, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
I've pinged steward User:MF-Warburg to take a look at this as they last closed the SRP as not done. — xaosflux Talk 17:58, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
Done added short-term protection and noted on that page's talk. — xaosflux Talk 18:00, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
The editor is back at it again. They hasn't addressed any concerns brought up on the talk page (mainly the fact that they keep changing the list with inaccurate information) and they keep trying to use force to get what they want. Until there's a response from Vituzzu, I suggest a permanent protection of that page. -- 89.111.226.77 12:11, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi 89.111 I suggest you start a section at Stewards' noticeboard. — xaosflux Talk 12:33, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

Please, restoreEdit

[1] Please, restore to this version [2]. That IP is vandalising and hiding behind anonimity.
Croatian editors' community has decided. Kubura (talk) 16:48, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Not done This is certainly still in dispute, I've asked the closing steward, Vituzzu, to comment on that talk page. — xaosflux Talk 19:04, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
I do not intend to engage in some childish editwar, especially against some IP that cowardishly hides behind anonimous IP. Unlike him, I'm exposing my userreputation by editing under my username. Anyway, there is no dispute there: community explicitly decided (almost unanimously), stewards do not decide - they execute (they are obliged to - Stewards_policy#Don't_override_consensus) the will of the community since they (stewards) have the software tools to do so in this case (they are the only ones with those tools). All the remarks in that case were taken into consideration and everything was done to fulfill them (even the voting extended to more than a month; every process on Wikipedias is a week long, neither the election of stewards is not that long), to avoid any further complaints. Since stewards two times in a row haven't executed what they were obliged to, it's now on them to talk to the concerned community on their Village pump, not on a distant project like Meta. This is serious thing, they cannot do that with a comment in a summary or two words ("not done"). Kubura (talk) 20:48, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Please follow up with User:Vituzzu who closed the requests. — xaosflux Talk 21:55, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Local group for abusefilter editorsEdit

So, seeing how the Babel thread went, I think we can put forward the idea of creating a local 'abusefilter' group to view and edit the Meta-Wiki filters, included the global ones? What do you think? Or do we need two local groups, one for the local filters and another one for the global ones? Regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 12:37, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

@MarcoAurelio: How about just letting admins modify them? Like I said on the page, it would be in-line with their existing access to the spam and title blacklists. I'd prefer to not make a new group for each new front-end interface we get. – Ajraddatz (talk) 23:49, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Any is fine with me, and we already have a "policy" based control if someone ONLY wants to deal with filter they could apply for limited adminship. — xaosflux Talk 00:11, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Ajraddatz Okay. If the people want to take that path I'm fine as well, provided that admins don't mess around with filters without knowing what they're doing. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 20:50, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Hi @Ajraddatz: - so do we need to make a "global" RfC, a "meta" RfC, just get the Babel discussion closed? — xaosflux Talk 21:58, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

RequestEdit

Can you delete this and this. The user Abd was recently globally banned by the WMF for harassment, as part of that he was creating LTA "studies" filled with misinformation on another user. Those separate articles were taken down, but he has two "user-data" links still up that still links to the edits (although you blanked one of them); someone else recently blanked another complaining, but they should be completely deleted. Abd deceptively is linking to these links on his blog and since there are still edits on that page if you view the history - it comes up on a google search and is abusing searches of the user Abd was harassing. Is there any chance these here and this link can be deleted completely?Largewarhammer (talk) 16:28, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Interaction Timeline V1.1Edit

Hello Xaosflux, I’m following up with you because you previously showed an interest in the Interaction Timeline. The Anti-Harassment Tools team has completed V1.1 and the tool is ready for use. The Interaction Timeline shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits.

The purpose of the tool is to better understand the sequence of edits between two users in order to make a decision about the best way to resolve a user conduct dispute. Here are some test cases that show the results and also some known limitations of the tool. We would like to hear your experience using the tool in real cases. Hello.
You cited the criterion G3 from Meta:Deletion policy. How can you identify Reisalice (talk · contribs · logs · User rights · Number of edits: · Global account information · Email this user) with one of banned users? The account was active on Meta-wiki only, you have not a check-user privilege here, and I never heard of a LTA looking like Reisalice behaviourally, let alone banned persons. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 09:46, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

I agree with this request. I don't see a community process to ban this user, and making a request by the user to address such lack of due process is not unreasonable.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:32, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

User:KoppadasaoEdit

This user has had a user page at meta for nearly six years. They make a couple of edits not liked, and you have blocked the user without a discussion with them. Is this how you would like to be handled somewhere? I do find such an approach heavy-handed. I do not agree with that person's PoV, but so what? It was not promotional in the sense of a product, it was a political statement.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:57, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Next steps for the wish “confirmation prompt for the rollback link”Edit

Hello, a while ago you participated in a feedback round about a proposal how accidental clicks on the rollback link could be avoided. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and ideas!
Looking at the feedback and the rollback situation in different wikis, the development team decided how to approach this wish: As a default, most wikis won’t have a confirmation. But users who wish to have one, can enable it in their preferences, which will add a confirmation prompt to the rollback link on the diff page and on the list pages. The prompt won’t be a pop-up, but an inline prompt like for the thanks confirmation. You can read more about the planned solution and what influenced this decision on the project page. -- Best, Johanna Strodt (WMDE) (talk) 09:41, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Central notice adminshipEdit

Hi! For security reasons, the Foundation decided to remove the rights related to Central Notice adminship from regular Meta admins, so that only the special group "central notice administrators" still has them. Since you made CN-related actions in the last 12 months, WMF requested us Meta bureaucrats to add you to do this group, in order not to disturb your workflow. The announcement can be found here. Best regards --MF-W 00:01, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

A bit more about why we can continue the 2FA discussionEdit

This isn't really relevant to the 2FA discussion in particular, but I think your enwiki background makes you overestimate the decisional power that the WMF has in these areas. Stewards/Meta tends to have a closer relationship with the WMF, and as such if we present them with a carefully considered solution that accounts for their concerns then they won't block it. And if they do, I have some paths that I can use to follow up on that decision.

I suspect it's a two-way street that's causing tension between the WMF and the community on enwiki. On the one hand, the WMF is protective of the flagship project and sometimes takes actions that it feels are "right" without much thought for consulting the community. But on the other, the community is generally pretty toxic, inflexible, and hard to work with through consultations. Outside of that environment, my experience with staff has been that they are very reasonable people who are open to being convinced by both consensus and good arguments. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:57, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

@Ajraddatz: thanks for reaching out! None of my responses were meant to be a WMF vs project complaint, just accepting that resources are finite. If the constraint is employees of WMF need to be involved with 2FA recovery then the hold back is realistic. The 2FA roll out has been kind of sloppy since it was rushed, but I see it was necessary due to the constant hacks threatening the safety and privacy of users and readers. I notice WMF staff is getting better at dealing with account recovery, but there is a lot of work to do still. 2FA might not scale until something like phab:T180896 can be accomplished (or the rest of phab:T100375 is solved). In the more general, I've found that getting WMF to actually express "their concerns" has been challenging (I've been trying to get a simple reply from WMF T&S for weeks about an email they sent me) - any ideas how to improve this? — xaosflux Talk 20:58, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
That's a fair point re: expressing concerns. It might be because the decisions (with rationales) are made at a higher level, then only the decisions are transmitted to the lower levels for passing on to the community. I'll raise this at the next WMF-steward meeting coming up. As for this specific case, I might be able to find some answers about your inquiry with T&S if you give me more info - email works. – Ajraddatz (talk) 21:13, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Alt AccountsEdit

Hi, Can you set a golbal java script for a Wikibreak enforcer set to indefinite, for all my alternate (Doppelangger accounts), so no one can use them if they do in an unfortunate event of being hacked. (So if it does get hacked, nothing will happen to them. Thanks. (You can obtain the script here) --Thegooduser (talk) 02:56, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

@Thegooduser: OK done. — xaosflux Talk 03:40, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Help in deletionEdit

Season Greetings, could you help to delete these 2 nonsense translations, Translations:So you've made a mistake and it's public.../Page display title/bew and Translations:So you've made a mistake and it's public.../36/bew. I tagged as Speedy but didn't appear on CAT:CSD. Thanks!--Cohaf (talk) 16:39, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

@Cohaf: OK these are done. Please note Category:Deleteme is regularly patrolled, tagging is usually all you need to do. — xaosflux Talk 18:01, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Those didn't appear in the category, but my other taggings (see deleted contributions) today does. Hence, I asked this favour from you. Thanks anyway!--Cohaf (talk) 18:04, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

UpdateEdit

[4] This page needs updating. Besides those three ex- power users, there is another one user desysopped by the community decision. Please protect the page and the talkpage, so that only registered users can edit them. This is to prevent the IP-warriors that engage in edit wars and use pejorative language (e.g. f..k on the talkpage). If someone wants to say or do something, he or she must expose his or hers reputation, not to hide behind the anonymity. Thanks, Kubura (talk) 03:28, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Please post at RFH if it is out of control. — xaosflux Talk 03:38, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

recover & move requestEdit

HI Xaosflux

Back in may this Noongar Birds of South, Western Australia. Ngolak Ngolyenok and Karrak page was deleted would it be possible for it to be recovered move my sandbox ideally in the Incubator for inclusion in https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/nys or alternatively to my sandobx on en.wp so I can review it to possible rescue what was written, it'd also be great if you could identify the user who created it. Thanks Gnangarra (talk) 13:13, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Done @Gnangarra: I don't have import access at Incubator, but have imported it with history to: w:en:User:Gnangarra/Noongar Birds of South, Western Australia. Ngolak Ngolyenok and Karrak. If moving to another project, ask an administrator to transwiki import it from there to maintain attribution. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 13:23, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
Thank very much appreciated Gnangarra (talk) 13:32, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Mass message senderEdit

Hi, few months ago you gave me the flag of mass message sender. I used it moderately and I will need it for future initiative in Tuscany.

I am drafting a page for future use (since there is no clear coordination page on itwikipedia or tiwikisoruce) and I have set up all the lists for various projects (also a draft for Liguria). I have no problem to report.

I am not using the flag right now but since the WLM activities will start soon more activities should be made public again during the spring. Many local elections occuring in June force us to prepare WLM activities much before the summertime this year. My 6-months flag is expiring and I therefore need a renewal. What do you suggest to do?--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:36, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

@Alexmar983: I changed your MMS access to indefinite (though it could be removed for inactivity if you don't use it for a lengthy time such as a year in the future). Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 14:44, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
User:Xaosflux thank you again. if I lower my activites, I will suggest someone else for the flag, as already happening for filemover on commons. The WLM team is quite integrated, so no problem.--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:48, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

re the declined CSDEdit

Hi, it's locally confirmed at zhwiki to be sock of globally locked user User:Allthingsgo, now I'm just waiting for my SRG request to be processed by Stewards. That's why I tagged as such. Regards,--Cohaf (talk) 16:23, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

@Cohaf: ok, feel free to re-csd nominate once done. — xaosflux Talk 16:24, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
I'll. Thanks.--Cohaf (talk) 16:26, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Xaosflux. The checking of stew votes is done elsewhere, not manually on each voting page. Re: here. Trijnsteltalk 14:18, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

SuppressionEdit

There was a suppression at Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat today. I don't know who did it, however, it is the same size edit as the user page that I deleted of that user. Would you be able to check with your fellow oversighters, and see if the same action is required.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:38, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

  • tps@Billinghurst:If I'm not wrong it's Bsadowski1 did the suppression. I saw the contents and is just contracts?--Cohaf (talk) 04:45, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: thank you for the note, without speculating on the motivation of the post, it does appear to fall under criteria #1 and has also been suppressed now. — xaosflux Talk 13:01, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

User:Hiàn (mobile)/global.js and related pageEdit

Hi Xaosflux. I was wondering if you could disable the redirects in User:Hiàn (mobile)/global.js and User:Hiàn (mobile)/common.js - I'd like to keep these separate pages (and in hindsight I probably should not have added those). Thanks, Hiàn (talk) 01:10, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

@Hiàn and Hiàn (mobile): I've blanked those out for you. — xaosflux Talk 01:14, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

User talk:86.141.93.162Edit

Did you read the abuselog for that contributor? Think that it may just be our regular vandal.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:32, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

@Billinghurst: no, I only deactivated the unblock request, as the block had expired we didn't need it in the admin backlog. — xaosflux Talk 20:34, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
I was more intimating the commentary, not the action. But not to worry.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:39, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

2FA manual auditsEdit

Hi Xaosflux. Would you expand on my edit here? Specifically, I'd like to replace the final diff with a link directly to wherever you gleamed that knowledge. While I am sure word has gotten around most users with those rights, I'd still like to get the documentation into good order. Thanks, AGK ■ 21:45, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

  • @AGK: I think you are referring to the "audit" part? If so they didn't post on-wiki I'm aware of (but it may be in phab tickets). An excerpt of the official email notification (at the time specific to interface-admins and central-notice admins) included: In the future we intend to enforce this as a technical requirement for admin access. Until that control can be enforced technically we will be mandating it administratively for all community and staff accounts. This means if you do not enable 2FA by 24th November 2018 your admin privileges will be revoked. Removal of access for Wikimedia Foundation staff members who do not regularly require these rights has already begun. The "it administratively" part is the "manual" part. Likely for security reasons, a schedule has not been posted. There is a request to allow certain users to audit this open in phab:T209749. Does that help? — xaosflux Talk 22:45, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Request for adminship on test2 wikiEdit

Flagged Revisions is going to be enabled on zhwiki (phab:T221933). I want to develop a gadget related to this feature before deployment. I need admin right to test it. FR is not enabled on test, so I request this right on test2. Thanks! --Xiplus (talk) 07:15, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

User:Xaosflux/globalwatchlist.jsEdit

I came across User:Xaosflux/globalwatchlist.js - it looks like you forked so that you could set your own site list. If that is the case, you may want to take a look at the current version of my script - as of version 1.4, users could set their own list of sites, and there are now a lot of other features. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 09:06, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

@DannyS712: thanks for the note, I was testing it out, but I'm not using it now - will refresh if I try it again! — xaosflux Talk 11:20, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

Requesting patroller rightsEdit

Hi Xaosflux. Would you be willing to grant me patroller rights? I'd like to be able to use rollback here on meta, and if I come across unpatrolled pages I can help out. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 21:06, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

@DannyS712: seems fine. Please look over Help:Reverting#Rollback and keep in mind that using rollback on meta-wiki for anything that isn't very obvious vandalism can be taken the wrong way, we get editors from every project and language here and actions can be taken the wrong way sometimes and can be hard to explain if there is a language barrier. For blatant vandalism, you don't need to worry about hurting the vandal's feelings though! As far as "patrol" - it pretty much safe to patrol anything that isn't blatant vandalism or something obviously worse like a personal attack; we don't have worries of patrolling vs indexing flags like the content projects do. — xaosflux Talk 23:08, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. --DannyS712 (talk) 00:03, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

ECEdit

Sorry for the ec/if I stepped on toes! Saw you'd posted and removed the other rights but not posted the meta request, so I went ahead and posted it :) TonyBallioni (talk) 00:53, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

No worries, it all has the same affect! — xaosflux Talk 00:56, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

Meta Legal ThreatEdit

Hi Xaosflux,

Contacting you on meta just because i have no idea how to handle poor behaviour on meta other than tracking down a meta admin that I know that wasn't involved in the discussion.

In the Croatian wikipedia meta RfC, Lasta seems to make a pretty clear legal threat if you are sure of you accusations, you can send me your name, surname and data to my mail (or you can post it here), I will sue you for defamation and see you in court here in Croatia - in effect, he(?) is stating that the only thing holding up suing the editor is knowing their contact details.

Wasn't sure what the appropriate course of action was at this stage on meta, so I was hoping you could at least point me the right way, even if you couldn't directly act. Nosebagbear (talk) 16:22, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

@Nosebagbear: I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. That user is already blocked for Meta:Urbanity infractions. What other remedy are you seeking at this time? — xaosflux Talk 16:45, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
Ah, my apologies, I'd forgotten that my blocked/strikethrough script wouldn't work here (or at least, the username isn't striking through here) and I didn't check sufficiently. No further action needed, cheers for your time Nosebagbear (talk) 16:53, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

HELPEdit

I have one trouble, on June 2 I was blocked on Meta, block don't have date, I will'be blocked ever, after this I became trusted user of kawiki and learn how to work in Meta, but they don't unblock me, help! :(--ჯეო (talk) 18:31, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

@ჯეო: Hello, you are not blocked here on the meta-wiki. You are blocked on: commonswiki, dewiki. You would needed to request unblocking on those projects. The most I could do is ask for you to be allowed to make an unblock request on commonswiki if you would like? — xaosflux Talk 19:07, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
Oh my mistake! Commons admins don't won't to unblock me--ჯეო (talk) 19:27, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
@ჯეო: regarding your block on commons, there is nothing we can directly do about it here. Please review the commons' blocking policy. My suggestion at this point: wait until January 2020, during that time show that you understand what proper open license images are by uploading to a local project (e.g. kawiki allows for local uploads, use your access there to upload only things that would also be suitable for commonswiki). If you do those things I'd be open to asking the commons admins to review removing your talk page block, so that you can file a new unblock request there. — xaosflux Talk 19:52, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Unprotect old central notice banner testEdit

Hey there! I see you're a central notice admin. Perhaps you could remove the cascading protection on MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template-Warning1819 Test? It is preventing editing to Template:Date. I contacted the protecting admin twice about this at User talk:Seddon (WMF)#Centralnotice-template-Warning1819 Test, and over email, but did not receive a reply. Thank you, MusikAnimal talk 05:01, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

@MusikAnimal: I removed the template from that banner, so it should also have fixed things for you. — xaosflux Talk 12:20, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

@Ankry: Hmm, User:Lionel Scheepmans probably shouldn't have been changing that, as that makes the line have a different name and signature, and the prior name was already on the eligible list. — xaosflux Talk 23:52, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

I think it is not my role to decide whether they should or not. The best way is to point both cases (user rename and altering the voting page) to the Election Committee. The suggested way to contact them is through #wikimedia-stewards-elections, but it is readonly, so this makes me confused. Ankry (talk) 00:33, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
