I propose to remove the meta administrators of User:Jusjih and User:Shizhao

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
This is going nowhere, clearly not a desysop request with valid reason. I do not believe crat is required to close discussions like this which is doing nothing. — regards, Revi 09:44, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

I propose to remove the meta administrators of User:Jusjih and User:Shizhao, Two of them speak chinese language, but they don't deal with chinese wikipedia Requests for comments, so what is the point of having two of them as meta administrators?

And the whole story is here. [1][2]--Jasonnn~zhwiki (talk) 16:05, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

So you want to remove two volunteers from their administrator tools because in their volunteer time they do not want to engage in some discussions? Not gonna happen. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 16:09, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
Agreed. Meta admins are volunteers and are not compelled to participate in RfCs. – Ajraddatz (talk) 16:10, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
Then I want to be a meta administrator volunteer, i think User:MarcoAurelio and User:Ajraddatz would support me, won't you? --Jasonnn~zhwiki (talk) 02:17, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
I don't think you understand the role or responsibilities that meta admins have. – Ajraddatz (talk) 02:25, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
Then what is it?--Jasonnn~zhwiki (talk) 02:51, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

Administrators on meta are users who have been granted the technical ability to perform certain special actions with local (protect and unprotect pages, delete and undelete pages, block and unblock users, and perform a variety of other tasks) and global (Editing the title and spam blacklist, editing central notices, sending mass messages globally, ...) effects.

Ajraddatz (talk) 03:43, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

Well, I can hypothesize that Jasonnn~zhwiki is the one who is “right” whereas a half or zh.Wikipedia is “wrong”. But requesting desysop on Meta-wiki for unwillingness to participate in a flamewar about Wikipedia content of a marginal encyclopedic value? Without any other misdeeds incriminating to Jusjih and Shizhao? As for “I want to be a meta administrator volunteer” – look: the topic starter is indef-blocked in en.Wikipedia, for canvassing. Believe my experience, a good-faith Wikimedian has to invest a considerable effort to obtain his/her indefinite block on this site for which an appeal is declined. Waiting for a bureaucrat to close this nonsensical thread. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 05:29, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

@Jasonnn~zhwiki: You seemed to be misunderstanding what Meta local admins volunteer works is it as you has created the RfA at here, note that Meta local admins are not an global stewards, and they do not have the technical implementation ability to remove away the local admins and crats privileges on Chinese Wikipedia which based on the consensus decision that you have created the RfC at here and here to discuss about your disputes with other admins on Chinese Wikipedia. If you like this in anyway, you maybe will get the trouble just like you get blocked on English Wikipedia, therefore, I suggest you to calm down your disputes on Chinese Wikipedia at this moment. What is the proper way?

I translated these "Lists of people by nationality "articles into chinese, almost all of them are deleted right now. I contact all the chinese administrators and got no help.[3] I also got blocked 6 months in chinese wiki for tring to save these articles. I sent emails, I post RFC in meta wiki, so far, nothing. So may i ask what is the proper way to fix this? What is the proper way to save those articles?

Sorry for bring you this, but i need your help. @Ajraddatz: @There'sNoTime:--Jasonnn~zhwiki (talk) 10:36, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

I am not sure why this is the business of meta administrators. Your behaviour at zhWP is judged and managed at zhWP, not here. This wiki is not a court of appeal.

At wikis the community makes a consensus of what is reasonable to be on-wiki, and that consensus is undertaken by administrators.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:46, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

Autopatrollers right for User:Megalibrarygirl

English Wikipedia admin, no need to patrol. SA 13 Bro (talk) 17:09, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

Done, though I don't think we need nominations for people to have this permission... The user in question has made one edit in the last two months. I could see a nomination being necessary only if it was causing a burden on patrollers. – Ajraddatz (talk) 17:11, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
Yes, the user having the coordination about WikiWomen projects when I patrolled the draft page, the rest of else I not so value on it except for causing a burden on patrol. SA 13 Bro (talk) 17:41, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

Cross-wiki

Both User:Hinds Dobro & User:Miner's Wind are the same user, posting-cross-wiki nonsense. --EncycloPetey (talk) 16:16, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

What do you want admins/bureaucrats to do? Stryn (talk) 16:19, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
@EncycloPetey: Both accounts are the sock-puppet of DisuseKid and has been globally locked, are you requesting the user page for deletion? SA 13 Bro (talk) 16:56, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
They weren't globally locked when I posted. Whether you delete or retain the User pages on Meta is a Meta decision. --EncycloPetey (talk) 17:11, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
Actually both were locked over 4 hours before your message :) That's why I asked what do you want. And anyway, this page is for requests that require admin/bureaucrat action, they can't lock cross-wiki vandals. Stryn (talk) 17:21, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
They didn't show up as globally locked on Wikisource when I handled the nonsense locally. I assume Meta policy is to keep these User pages since they show up on every wiki as a result of being here? --EncycloPetey (talk) 17:52, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
Some admins keep them, some remove. I usually remove user pages of locked users, and did it now as well. Thanks. Stryn (talk) 17:56, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Request to correct user page

User:Francis Kaswahili was locked by User:Jalexander-WMF as an action of the WMF office. Since it was not done (from my view) as a global ban I attempted to remove the global ban template from the user page (since its normally used on people who have been given global bans by User:WMFOffice). Due to filter 161 (which states that only users with the autopatrol right can edit other user's pages) I was warned and disallowed from performing such reversion. Could someone please review and if possible action my request? Thanks Sau226 (talk) 11:32, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

I'd rather hear from James before doing something. — regards, Revi 12:03, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
It was last modified by Stemoc, changed the template as locked global account, I don't assume that the user page shall be restored back to the previously revision since that user has been global locked by office action for a long time due to security issue on projects. SA 13 Bro (talk) 13:29, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
@Sau226: Why do you think that it is a good idea to change the template yourself? A good place to play? I would call that an unwise action. I would think that you would be better to leave a note on James's user talk page and let him fix it.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:44, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
Given [4] wasn't done by a WMF staff member, it would be good if James or someone else could confirm if it's a WMF global ban. Legoktm (talk) 13:51, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
The user is globally banned. The WMF maintains a separate list on the steward wiki and the user is on that list. He was added by T&S staff there. – Ajraddatz (talk) 17:09, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Request for mass message sender right

Hi. I request the mass message sender flag because my activity shows that need it. During the last two years I have been leaving many messages manually (for edit-a-thons in Tuscany and neighboring regions, or for Wiki Science Competition) and it is becoming quite time-consuming. We had a meeting in March in Tuscany with people from different projects such as User:Giaccai (wikisource), User:Manuelarosi, User:Camelia.boban (WikiDonne user group), User:Kaspo (coordinator Wikimedia Italy for Tuscany), User:Pegasovagante (coordinator of school and education, Wikimedia Italy for Tuscany, it.wikiversity), we agreed in the framework of our communication strategy that we need also a mass message sender. I had a similar chat also with User:Ettorre (coordinator Wikimedia Italy for Ligury)

Of course, I am happy to help whoever asks me, not just these people. It's a pity that on itwikipedia, the main it-N platform, the guideline for mass message are not fully developped (something I pointed out myself in the past)

I think you can grant me the right even for a relatively long period (I suppose you decide a test phase), because:

  1. . I am an expert on local wikimetrics, see this proposal that produced this tool, with former it-N sysop User:AlessioMela. Already in 2016 for the first mass message I produced one of the first local lists on itwiki for a better management it:Progetto:Toscana/Messaggi utenze. In addition to that I had to handle lists for specific platforms when I was informing about the WMI "borse Guidetti" User:Alexmar983/MassMessageList and now I am drafting the list of target users for the Italian local user groups, see Gruppi locali di lingua italiana/Toscana/Lista utenze.
  2. I translated in Italian the guideline page here on meta in 2016.
  3. I was probably the first person to ask for a mass message on itwikipedia in January 2016 digging inside the whole procedure, and later I even explained the basics of mass message to a local sysop, ask User:Epìdosis.

My first test will be a lst-minute invitation to a meeting in Pisa, see it:Wikipedia:Raduni/Strategia WMI luglio 2018 Pisa or a future Wiki Loves Monuments photographic excursion in September.

On the long term, I hope I can use this direct experience to create structured local lists for all Italian local groups, and maybe suggest a better workflow for requests. I am also active on minor platforms, so I am glad to help them creating specific lists that their local sysop can use later. We'll see.--Alexmar983 (talk) 20:57, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Done @Alexmar983: granted for 6 months, stop back by before it expires if you will still need. Keep in mind, that messages must adhere to the policies of the communities you send them to - in some cases this means that recipients must affirmatively opt-in. If a community (e.g. itwiki) only wants admins to send mass-messages, and you use meta access to bypass their controls not only may this be revoked, but that community may block you. Start small, be polite, include reminders how to opt-out of future mailings - make sure you don't break pages with bad formatting and always include a timestamp. — xaosflux Talk 01:06, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
User:Xaosflux itwiki already allows non-sysop to send mass messages, see this recent example. If for some reason I will have to use the talks in itwiki, I will use them. If at that point itwiki does not agree with what de factooccured so far, they will finally decide to write down some clear guidelines. For me it's a win.-win situation. Please notice that while I will always write down a link to the mass message recipients' list (as in the cases where I asked someone else to send them), that is I will make it clear and visibile and specific, in that case it's just a link to a history of a page in the hidden part of the text. It sounds bizarre they will have something to say about the method with these previous examples. It's good if they do, BTW. Concerning other communities, I am planning to write it at their village pump pages.--Alexmar983 (talk) 10:42, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
I made a first test, all seems fine and clear to me. Thank you again.--Alexmar983 (talk) 19:26, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

After joining Wikipedia I went through all guidelines, rules and regulations.I am personally against the activity that violate Wikipedia rules. Its a humble request please help in recovering my account.— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 117.226.158.72 (talk)

@Billinghurst: The User:Asim543 account is globally locked, so an unblock at en.wiki wouldn't help much, which is why I referred them here. I think the reason for the global lock would need to be resolved before there's any point considering them for unblock at en.wiki. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:18, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Steward requests/Global

This page is used by global blocked IPs for appealing global blocks, and should not be protected. @Trijnstel:.--GZWDer (talk) 18:34, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

When the page was unprotected, it was receiving far more LTA/vandal posts than legitimate appeals. We are investigating alternative means for allowing appeals of global blocks. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:10, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
Probably appeals of all global blocks (whether blocked in Meta or not) and locks should go through OTRS. But this should be clearly indicated in the SRG page. In addition, if this is done we probably should remove the exception of Meta in global blocks.--GZWDer (talk) 09:32, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
