Jeg er nybegynner!

Jeg har akkurat lest Jakten på Odin og hvordan boka ble motarbeida. Jeg fant en side om Asovhavet på wikipedia. Brukeren heter Mahlum. Der står det: "Navnet Azov kan stamme fra det tyrkiske ordet «azak», som betyr «lav» og refererer til beliggenheten." Jeg tok kontant med noen tyrkere i går. Det kjenner ikke ordet azak, men derimot uzak som betyr lang, evig. Så jeg lurer på om du har noe å bidra med når det gjelder tyrkisk og hvordan jeg skal komme i kontant med Mahlum.

Hello, sorry for disturbing you. Could you merge the history of s:vi:Tác gia:Phan Kế Bính and s:vi:Tác giả:Phan Kế Bính? A user moved this page from "Tác gia" (Author) namespace to "Tác giả", but "Tác gia" is right namespace and "Tác giả" namespace does not exist, then this user corrected by cutting anh pasting, so the history of this page has been lost. Please do some tasks below to fix several bugs in the interface of Vietnamese Wikisource:

1. In s:vi:MediaWiki:Common.js, in the function BilingualLink(), delete "http:" from the line beginning with "var bilang".

2. In s:vi:MediaWiki:Common.js, add this script to translate "optlist" in the sidebar:

Thanks for the reminder! One thing I didn't check when I requested bot status is that pywikipedia doesn't actually work with Wikispecies without some adjustment – it checks the interwikis and makes changes where it needs to, but only in the links it follows – it doesn't make any changes on Wikispecies even when things need to be changed. Two questions regarding Translation Notification Bot

Dear Jon Harald Søby, I have two questions regarding Translation Notification Bot on nl.wikipedia. I hope you can help me.

Firstly, the bot places messages with incorrect links, pointing to nl.wikipedia instead of meta. See this edit for example. Could you please fix this?

Interwiki links from SWWP to another sites

Hi Jon, mambo vipi? I was about to add some interwiki to American Pie (mfululizo) but I didn't because I thought the bot will take care the interwiki matter (since the interwiki are added through wikidata). But so far nothing happened and I don't know how to make the interwiki of the mentioned article appear in our Wikipedia. I went there and I've added the link but still I can't find no link to the other sites. So please tell me what to do or should I follow the previous style instead? I think you have done everything correctly, seeing as the interwikis show up for me. There is a problem with caching, but if you just append ?action=purge to the article in swwiki after you have added its link on Wikidata, the interwikis will show up. Jhsoby (talk) 18:19, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Translation of Norwegian Church hymn title for article in English

I was hoping you could provide me with an idiomatic translation of the Norwegian Church hymn title "Høgt frå den himmelske klåra". As far as I can tell it does not appear in Lutheran Hymnals in English (or if it does, it's under an unrecognizable). I've made a couple of attempts, such as "High from the Heavenly Heights" and "From the clear heavens" but I'm not really satisfied. This is for an article about the author of the hymn in English Wikipeida, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodora_Cormontan . Someday I would like to see it translated into bokmal, but I want to get it to a good status first. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Query about translation template litter

Jon, I believe you had an important role in designing this template. I'm new to it.

I'm struggling to see why the template should be applied at such fine-grained level that individual numbered or bulleted points are marked up. I'm finding it disruptive at that level. Why is a section not the most fine-grained level? Tony (talk) 06:14, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Wikidata - terms in Norwegian

Ref your comments on Wikidata diskusjon. The current translation of English: item to Norwegian: datasett, contradicts what is provided by dictionaries in the IT/IS field, is inconsistent with Norwegian language practices, it undermines the semantics of the data model behind Wikidata terminology, and it has no support in the community of Norwegian Wikipedia contributors, except from one single person.

In role of Wikipedia contributors and users of Wikidata, we need an explanation or a rationale for 'datasett' still being used in the Norwegian user interface.(Example: http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39645?uselang=nb#sitelinks ) And insight into the decision-making process leading to this choice. doubts on translations

Hi Jon, I'm working with an IEG in the wikiArS initiative. I'm trying to understand how to ask for translations and in general how to manage the translation issues. I've some doubts and Siko told me to ask you.

I put the <translate> tag inside the main wikiArS pages (outreach:wikiArS, outreach:WikiArS/Get_started,outreach:wikiArS/Schools, outreach:wikiArS/Get_involved) expecting to found this page listed in Special:PageTranslation, but not :-) Why? What is wrong?

Another question is: it is possible to use the translate system to ask for translations from other languages into English or only from English to other languages. For example I've this page in Catalan. It's possible to put tags and ask for translations or first I should to translate it into English and then ask for other languages?

Wrong blocking

I have been blocked for the wrong reason. The other Swedish speaking steward Tegel is involved in this erroneous blocking. It was MagnusA on Swedish Wikipedia who did the blocking. I was never warned before blocking and I didn't fulfill any Wikipedia rules to be blocked. I want to be unblocked and at least MagnusA should be blocked since he blocks people for made up reasons. I was unblocked right now. This administrator MagnusA has blocked another person for unclear reasons a couple of years ago. I made that thing...

...that we were talking about, based on your new method for separating template structure from contents, and thereby keeping the markup and styling of the template clean and editable outside of translation workflows. It's a universal version of the caller template you made that matches text keys in a /Content subpage of a given template. It takes namespace, title, and key (currently "words=") parameters to specify the target. All those params are probably overkill and too sloppy at the moment, but it seems to work as advertised. Request for feedback on my GSoC'14 proposal

Hi Jon Harald Søby,

I am planning to work on the project titled "Tools for mass migration of legacy translated wiki content" this summer under Google Summer of Code. I have drafted a proposal for the same over the past few weeks. This project is going to help the translation adminstrators like you in a great way, as it would completely automate the tedious manual task of preparing a page for translation and then importing the translations into the Translate extension. You can check the proposal page for detailed information on how I plan to accomplish this.

As you would be an end user of this tool, it would be great if you could go through the proposal and provide feedback/suggestions. Your feedback would definitely help me improve the proposal as well help in creating an even better tool. TCT and Grantmaking Navbar

Hi Jon,

I have an interesting new test case for TCT. I just created this grantmaking navbar template. I wanted to familiarize myself with Lua (translation: don’t judge my code too harshly). Currently, this template selects the title to display on a particular page from the list at Module:GrantmakingNavbar/pages.

What’s the best way to make these titles translatable using TCT? I expect we need to call a Template:GrantmakingNavbar/Content page or something from the template itself, before it invokes the module, but haven’t really worked out the details. Any ideas? Using Lua adds a layer of complexity, though I enjoy the extra functionality and non-sucky syntax. I expect to make a bunch of new IdeaLab templates in Lua over the next few months, so it would useful to get the workflow down. Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 19:49, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Translate some names for hundreds software projects including MediaWiki

Hello, I'm writing you because you subscribed to a Language support team. As you know, Wikimedia projects exist in almost 300 languages; supporting them all is a big effort so we partner with other organisations. One small but visible thing we miss is that many interwiki links in sidebar (among others) don't offer a translation of the language name when hovered. We're now able to translate 100 more language names in your language.

If you're interested, I can create you an account to submit translations on the CLDR web tool (within June 14): please send an email to ask one and I'll follow up with instructions. As a Google Summer of Code Intern, I have been working on the Mass Migration tools project for Wikimedia. We are now ready with a minimal working product. The tool helps translators and translation administrators import the old translations into the Translate Extension.

Navnerom Form på norsk bokmål

Jeg har nylig lastet ned og installert nye versjoner av MediaWiki og Semantic MediaWiki med div. utvidelser. Jeg ser da at tidligere oversettelse av navnerommet Form, Skjema, er blitt borte. Nå må en prefikse med den originale engelske betegnelsen for navnerommet. Er dette en bevisst endring, eller resultatet av overgang fra no til nb, eller noe annet?

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that OTRS volunteers sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have been identified as an OTRS volunteer and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access. OTRS volunteers have a specific agreement available, if you have recently signed the general confidentiality agreement for another role (such as CheckUser or Oversight), you do not need to sign the general agreement again, but you will still need to sign the OTRS agreement.

Tunisian Arabic

As shown in the new edition of Ethnologue, Tunisian Arabizi (One of the Latin Scripts used for Tunisian) has been recognized as a common script for Tunisian Arabic. As it is the most used script in Internet, we will use it in Wp/aeb. I have slightly modified this method so that it can be converted to Arabic Script. I have created a script converter for Tunisian Arabizi and I will implement it with explanations very soon. However, I need to test it before. So, you are invited to change the name of Tunisian Arabic in Latin Script into Tounsi and change the editing software of Tunisian Arabic Wikipedia into Left to Right format. 2. Pilot projects

Building partnerships and testing our approach with marginalized communities.

• Dalit History Month: We're working with Equality Labs to support Dalit communities in South Asia and the United States to map knowledge and create Wikipedia content. Dalit History Month edit-a-thons are coming in April!
• Women's Human Rights Defenders: In partnership with Urgent Action Fund, we'll be supporting a group of women's human rights defenders around the world with more mapping and wiki content creation. Themes and geographies coming soon!
• Kumeyaay Wikipedia Initiative: Following the 2016 Indigenous People's Day edit-a-thon, we're continuing to work with members of the Kumeyaay tribe in Southern California and Baja to map and contribute indigenous knowledge to Wikimedia projects. A discussion day with Kumeyaay community in San Diego is being planned for May.

3. Funding

We've got financial support for 2017!

• WMF grant: 6-month funding (February-July 2017) was approved to pilot our approach to mapping knowledge and creating Wikipedia content with the Dalit community and global women's human rights defenders. Thanks for all your endorsements!
• Shuttleworth Fellowship: Anasuya is a Shuttleworth Fellow! This means we'll be able to spend more time organizing, and have support for convenings, campaign infrastructure, etc.

4. Wikimedia Strategy

• Anasuya and Siko will be carrying the Whose Knowledge? vision of diversity, pluralism and representation of marginalized communities into movement strategy conversations in Berlin March 2017.

Wikidays in Trondheim March 24–25

On March 24–25 Wikimedia Norge's office (temporarily) moves to Trondheim!

• On Friday, March 24, there will be a tour for Wikipedians at the Norwegian National Museum of Justice, followed by a wiki meetup with food and the announcement of the winner of Wikipedian of the Year at Work-Work. All Wikipedians and other interested parties are very welcome!
• On Saturday, March 25, Wikimedia Norge holds its general assembly, this too at Work-Work. Suggestions for the board can be sent to styre@wikimedia.no until 23 February 2017. Remember that you have to be a registered member to be allowed to vote at the general assembly and to get travel expenses reimbursed by Wikimedia Norge.
• You can read the agenda for the general assembly here.

Wikigrants and travel grants

• February 15 is the deadline for applying to wikigrants from Wikimedia Norge. We hope to get applications for many exciting projects! You are also welcome to apply for travel grants to participate in WikiCite, the Wikimedia Hackathon and Wikimania.
• You can also apply for [$url travel grants for Wikimania 2017 in Montréal] from the Wikimedia Foundation until 20 February 2017.
• In the end of May WikiCite and Wikimedia Hackathon will be held in Vienna, Austria. Until February 27 you can apply for travel grants for WikiCite and until February 26 you can apply for travel grants for the Wikimedia Hackathon.

• In November/December 2016 Wikimedia Norge held a user survey, thank you to everyone who participated! The results have been published on Meta.

Jeg kan ikke se bildet siden det har blitt sletta, men jeg antar ut fra slettebegrunnelsen at det ble sletta fordi det er funnet en kopi en annen plass på nettet, og det pleier å være en indikator på at den som har lasta det opp bare har funnet det et sted og så lasta det opp på Commons. Så spørsmålet er, er det du som har tatt bildet (og dermed eier rettighetene til det)? Hvis det er tilfelle bør en epost til info-no@wikimedia.no hvor du skriver at du bekrefter at du er opphavspersonen og at du gir ut bildet under den gitte lisensen (CC-by-SA 4.0 er vel standarden nå tror jeg). @Profero: Ja, samme epostadresse. Du kan se eksempler på eposter her, eller prøve denne generatoren (jeg har aldri prøvd den, men den ser enkel nok ut å bruke). • On May 15^th Wiki Loves Earth starts. This photo contest is about taking the best pictures of protected nature in Norway. The comtest page can be found here.

• Wikimania will be held in Montréal from August 9^th to 13^th. All information on Wikimania can be found here.

• Wikimedia Norge has changed its logo to a new all-black version (see logo at the right). Wikimedia Foundation is in a process of changing their logo, and Wikimedia Deutschland has already changed to this new version.
• Wikipedia was blocked in Turkey on April 29^th. The Wikimedia Foundation has made a statement about the block on their blog.

• Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 has started! The world's largest photo contest runs from September 1 through September 30, where the goal is to upload photos of monuments in Norway. There will also be a concurrent writing competition on the Norwegian Bokmål, Norwegian Nynorsk and Northern Sami Wikipedias during weeks 37 and 38.
• September 12: There will be a wiki meetup about references, with Ole Bjørn Rekdal as guest lecturer. The meetup will be held at the House of Literature in Oslo, and starts at 17:00.
• September 15: This is the deadline to apply for this round of wikigrants from Wikimedia Norge. Everyone can apply (you don't have to be a member), so if you have a project or an idea that you would like to see through, but could use some money to achieve it, apply now!
• September 16: Wiki-LAN, an editathon to increase the coverage of–and participation from–women in Wikipedia, will be organized at Musikkonservatoriet in Tromsø. Even though there's a focus on women, everyone is welcome!
• September 21: During the Oslo Science Days Wikimedia Norge invites you to the event Writing women into history, where the Director of research and dissemination at the National Library of Norway, Hege Høsøien, and artist and curator, Merete Røstad, will introduce the subject, followed by a conversation with Jorid Martinsen from Wikimedia Norge.
• October 6: During the announcement of who will be this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureate, a group of Wikipedians will be present at the Nobel Peace Center for #wikinobel in order to cover the prize and the laureate(s) in a good way. Get in touch with Jon Harald if you want to participate!

Wikipedia Montenegrin

Does anyone know when Montenegrins will get their Wikipedia? Since Montenegro has received an international code for the Montenegrin language, so now Montenegrins are entitled to their Wikipedia. --Ookuninusi 21:56, 12 december 2017 (UTC)

@Ookuninusi: Do you have any sources that this code (cnr) has been assigned? I see the two sources in the English Wikipedia article, but they refer to the National Library in Washington, which is the registrar for ISO 639-2 (not -3), and ISO 639-2 has had no updates since 2012 according to their own website – and indeed I thought ISO 639-2 was frøzen, as in not assigning any new codes. I also can't find anything on SIL's website (the registrar for ISO 639-3): Not under the code and not under the pending change requests. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 22:02, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Meet-up on January 16^th

On Tuesday the 16^th of January at 17.00 there will be a wiki meet-up in the Amalie Skram room in Litteraturhuset, Oslo. There will be a presentation from Thomas Hylland Eriksen, who describes the theme of the meeting like this:

"Wikipedia can be used as an example of many things, including humans' exceptional lust for knowledge and insight. There are, however, stumbling blocks along the way, including them monopolization, relevance and knowledge aversity. In a world like this, an institution like Wikipedia is more important than ever."

Wikigrants

The 15^th of February is the deadline for applying for wikigrants. We're looking forward to seeing many exciting applications!

General assembly

Wikimedia Norge's general assembly will be held at Samisk hus, Oslo, on the 3^rd of March 2018 at 11.00. We're planning a wiki meet-up, drone safari and a Wikidata workshop this weekend, so keep the dates March 2–4. Members' travel expenses can be covered. We'll return with more information in the next newsletter.

Northern Sami Wikipedia

This fall, Wikimedia Norge has started a project to improve the Northern Sami Wikipedia. During the fall we have translated our website into Northern Sami, held a survey among current and former contributors to the wiki, planned cooperations with various institutions and participation to Márkomeannu and Riddu Riđđu. This work will continue in 2018, and those who are interested in ollowing it can sign up for updates on the project here.

This project is also the first one where we use Phabricator for project management. The project can be followed here.

Retriever and Bokhylla.no

Accesses to Retriever were dispersed again on the 20^th of November, 2017, and a new dispertion will happen on the 20^th of May, 2018. We remind you that we can also help get access to Bokhylla.no for Wikipedians with foreign IP addresses. More information about this can be found on this page.

The international winners of Wiki Loves Earth were announced on the 11^th of December! We especially congratulate the Norwegian photographer who came in 5^th.

General assembly March 2^rd

Wikimedia Norge awarded funding from Arts Council

Wikimedia Norge has been awarded 100,000 NOK to make an image collection by Bodil Biørn available on Wikimedia Commons. Bodil Catharina Biørn (1871–1960) was a Norwegian missionary, nurse and midwife who was a missionary in eastern Turkey (Ottomon Empire). Biørn was an eyewitness to what has later been called the first genocide of the 20^th century, the Armenian Genocide. She documented this by taking photographs and writing detailed image descriptions. In May Wikimedia Norge and the National Archive invite Wikipedians to help work on these image descriptions. Hello, Jon Harald Søby! You receive this message because last year you took part in the CEE Women challenge. This year the challenge repeats, and it will take longer: from now until the end of May (about 10 weeks).

Please, feel invited to visit the page Wikimedia CEE Spring 2018/CEE Women and join the challenge again. Help have more notable women from Central and Eastern Europe in more language versions globally, including Norwegian (both of them! :) ). We again have a list of ideas for biographic articles of women from all over the CEE.

What is different this year is that now you can set your own minimal number of articles as a measure of your challenge (i don't advise you to challenge yourself with more than 70 ;) 10-20 is perfect!). Also, you can receive as a prize a postcard not only from Bulgaria (as in 2017), but also from a list of countries from CEE and around the world. Apart of being a receiver, you can also opt to be a sender of postcards from your country to some of the other participants! That would also be awesome!

Oslo Freedom Forum, May 28^th

Wikimedia Norge is participating in the Tech Lab during Oslo Freedom Forum with a full-day editathon. Do you want to join us? Get in touch with astrid@wikimedia.no. Lunch and travel expenses can be reimbursed. This is the invitation from the Human Rights Foundation, which organizes the Oslo Freedom Forum: As a member of Norway's Wikipedia community, you are invited to spend May 28 with hundreds of human rights activists and technologists at the 2018 Oslo Freedom Forum. Wikimedia will have an area inside the venue at Sentralen in downtown Oslo to encourage participants to edit various human-rights related entries in Norwegian, English, and other languages. A key goal will be to get the dissidents, activists, journalists, and netizen and OFF attendees from more than 50 countries to get involved in editing their own country's important pages, such as country page, leader (or dictator), top activists, and any key human rights or corruption issues. Working together, we can expose the crimes of corrupt governments while also shining a light on those who are working to make the world a better place.

Bodil Biørn event at the National Archive, May 30^th

200 photographies from Bodil Biørn's collection are kept at the National Archive. With support from the Arts Council, the National Archive is digitizing these photos, and Wikimedia Norge is transcribing them and making the content available in cooperation with Wikimedia Armenia. This afternoon we invite everyone to get more acquainted with Bodil Biørn and the National Archive's collections. More info in the Facebook event.

Conferences and festivals

The employees of Wikimedia Norge are participating in several conferences and festivals this summer to promote the Northern Sami Wikipedia. If you are going to any of them, we would love to get in touch! Reach out to astrid@wikimedia.no.

Wiki Loves Monuments: photo and writing contests

During September, the annual international photo contest on cultural heritage, Wiki Loves Monuments, will be held. There will also be a 2-week long Wikipedia writing contest about cultural heritage.

Meet-up at Litteraturhuset, September 4^th

For this meet-up, Anine Kierulf has been invited to talk about Wikipedia and the Constitution of Norway – about article 100. "Wikipedia is decidedly the largest and most used encyclopedia in Norway, while it also has many shortcomnigs. Article 100 of the Constitution says The authorities of the state shall create conditions that facilitate open

and enlightened public discourse, so is this a challenge for the authorities?" The event is free and open to everyone. You can register on-wiki or in the Facebook event.

All contributors to the various Wikimedia projects can apply for our wikigrants. The maximum amount is 8 000 NOK. The wikigrant must be used for activities that support one or more Wikimedia projects.

Researchers' Days, September 26^th

During this year's Researchers' Days, we will discuss what can be done to make women's contributions to culture and the arts as publicly visible as men's contributions. We are inviting organizations and people who have worked on the subject to talk about why it is important to do something about this, to share the good methods and not least to inspire to action. #wikinobel, September 27^th

A #wikinobel event will be held at the Nobel Peace Center on this date. More information is coming on wikimedia.no.

Workshop: Wikidata, November 10^th

A new workshop on Wikidata! There will be merch from Wikimedia Deutschland to celebrate that Wikidata is turning 6. Feel free to suggest topics on the registration page.

There are many round numbers this fall. The Norwegian Bokmål Wikipedia is getting close to half a million articles, Wikidata is about to surpass 50 million items, and is also turning 6. Congratulations! Please get in touch with us if you have ideas about how to celebrate all of this!

Hi, I would like to know if you can activate the Guianese Wikipedia project, and please do not discuss it with another administrator, because I think I have sent too many messages; they do not want to answer any more, please, I did all that I was asked to do for this project, Check by yourself, it has been a year since I am told that they will activate it and create officially the Guianese Wikipedia, but they have not done anything so far, so please activate this project because it's really important for me, but it has also developed in me a huge stress, I think about it all the time and it drives me crazy to tell me that they will never approve of it, even though I did everything as they asked, please Create the Guianan Wikipedia! Please, can you abandon it? It's really not a good effort, it's neither a good idea nor a bad idea, it's just not a solution, your patch will break the Wikidata structure about it, you will unfairly mark Nynorsk and Hognorsk monolingual texts wrongly as Bokmal, you will also unfairly call Bokmal = all Norwegian in your user page Babel, you will also introduce a lot of confusion ways on handling Bonnie-and-Clyde issues in our codebase. New respond:Well... First of all this "grandfather clause" is causing a discrimination. I really can't understand that Bosnian standard has its own Wiki and Montenegrin doesn't. Secondly - I guess a compromise would be creating common Serbian/Montenegrin Wiki with possibility of 2 articles existing - one in Serbian standard and second in Montenegrin one. That would sort of solve the problem. Because, even if I know that Wikipedia isn't (usually) a reliable source for citing, it's not fair that Montenegrins can't use the Wiki material in their own standard. --2409:8902:9301:F7F8:661C:FD23:FBA4:F48 00:56, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

User:117.15.55.182 : abuse

Can you do something against User:117.15.55.182 for its repeated insults on this wiki ? Even when ordered to stop that, he posts again and again, and adds new versions in multiple languages (approximate non-sense automatic translations). I cannot stop him, he posted 18 messages in a raw and is constantly pinging me. He's unable to defend a position without abusing and directed personal attacks (plus out of topic political concerns and lot of bad faith/short vision about the real history of this region of Indonesia and refusal to recognize that this is only a technical issue, not a politically-oriented one). Nothing stops him: he delete my own warnings and orders to stop insults. UN International Year of Indigenous Languages

2019 is the UN's International Year of Indigenous Languages, and Wikimedia Norge has been recognized by UNESCO as a Civil Society Partner. Throughout 2019 we will hold a series of events connected to indigenous languages and Sami content online. The first event is an international writing contest in February of 2019. General assembly in Tromsø, 9 March 2019

Wikimedia Norge's general assembly for 2019 will be held in Tromsø.

As usual we will hold a wiki meetup the day before the general assembly. The meetup on 8 March will begin with a tour of Perspektivet Museum from 17:00 to 18:00, after which we will meet at Casa Inferno.

The general assembly will be held on 9 March from 12:00 to 14:00 at Skansen.

We have been given a new grant from Arts Council Norway to continue the Bodil Biørn project. The project is a cooperation with Wikimedia Armenia and the National Archive of Norway, centered around transcribing and digitizing Biørn's letters from Armenia. You can read an article about the project written by Wikimedia Norge and the National Archive here.

On 12 December 2018, Wikimedia Norge moved its office to Schweigaards gate 34C (greenhouse.no). We're hoping to organize a wiki meetup here in the spring.

Travel scholarship for Wikimania

The annual Wikimania conference, which is for anyone interested in the Wikimedia projects, will be held in Stockholm on August 14^th–18^th. Wikimedia Norge is offering travel scholarships of 3,000 NOK to volunteers who wish to go. You can apply for a scholarship by May 15^th on this page.

Retriever access

Every six months Wikimedia Norge are disseminating 6 accesses for Retriever to active Wikipedia contributors. If you are interested in obtaining an access, please add yourself to the list of interested users on this page by May 20^th.

Wiki meetup in Oslo

The next wiki meetup in Litteraturhuset will be on May 23^rd. Wikimedia Norge has invited faktisk.no for a wiki meetup in Litteraturhuset to talk about fact-checking, and what fact-checkers think about Wikipedia as a project. Italian simple wikipedia as txikipedia

Hi, I'm Matteo Ruffoni Hi! I'm Matteo and I work as teacher at a middle school in Valle di Ledro, near Trento. My pupils and I have been contributing to Wikiversity and Wikimedia Commons since 2016. Another interesting project is Vikidia, a wiki for 8-13 aged children. My user page in Wikiversity is here and at Vikidia is here. an Italian math teacher. I'm writing on behalf of a group of teachers, members of wikimedia and vikidia. We are very committed in involving our students (8-13 years old) in creating entries in Italian Vikidia, Wikiversity, Wikivoyage and Wikibooks. We had the pleasure to meet Koldo Biguri and we would like to do the same he has done with vikidia and txikipedia. He told us that you konw how to create a suitable namespace where to add the created entries. At the moment we are dealing with vikida and wikimedia-it administrators in order to make this possible. @Mattruffoni: Hi, and sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this! The number one thing to remember is getting community consensus in the Italian Wikipedia (and preferrably in the Italian Vikidia as well – most if not all users in the Basque Vikidia consented to moving the content to Txikipedia). After consensus is reached, we will post a request in Phabricator to create the namespaces. Then you need to export all relevant pages from Vikidia and change all links to use the namespace prefix with regular expressions (very important to keep a clear head here), then import them to Wikipedia. I'll be happy to help with this step since I have the experience doing that already – it can get a bit complicated. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 12:27, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Wikimania 2019 in Stockholm

This week, volunteers, employees and board members of Wikimedia Norge will be participating in the international Wikimania conference, which will be held in Stockholm this year. We will participate with a series of presentations, and one of the keynote speakers, Liv Inger Somby, is invited by Wikimedia Norge. You can read more about her in this blog post (also in Northern Sami).

Wiki Loves Monuments

This year the international photo contest Wiki Loves Monuments will be organized in Norway for the ninth time. What's new this year is that there will be an extra category for photos of Sámi monuments. The criteria for the contest are simple – the photos need to be of registered monuments in Norway, and must be uploaded during September 2019, but can be taken whenever. In September the monthly writing contest will also be about monuments in Norway.

Hålogalandsvegen

During the Márkomeannu festival in July, Wikimedia Norge and Várdobáiki Sámi Centre started the wikiproject Hålogalandsvegen. The wikiproject focuses on improving articles related to the new road Hålogalandsvegen and nearby places in Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk and Northern Sami. The project page and the lists of relevant articles will be updated during fall. Feel free to sign up if you are interested in contributing!

Researchers' Days 2019

Wikimedia Norge will again take part in the Researchers' Days (Forskningsdagene) organized by the Research Council of Norway. On September 24^th at 17:30 we will hold a seminar on Decolonizing knowledge online at Kulturhuset in Oslo. Welcome!

Keep the dates! October 11^th is #wikinobel, and November 27^th there will be a meetup at Litteraturhuset. Mer information on these events will come on a later date.

Hello, Wikimedia Norge members and other contributors, here is our newsletter for November 2019.

During one week of October, Giellavahkku, the UN International Year of Indigenous Languages was celebrated all over the country. Wikimedia Norge was recently granted money from the Sámi Parliament's language funds to create an education program in cooperation with the Sámi University of Appliec Sciences and the University of Tromsø for students to contribute to the Wikipedia in Northern Sámi, or to contribute Sámi content to other Wikimedia projects in general. We have also been granted money from Fritt Ord to put Sámi place names in Wikidata, in cooperation with the Norwegian Mapping Authority. You can read more about this work on our blog.

The jury has finished its task for this year's Wiki Loves Monuments, and the 10 winning photos that go on to the international part of the contest have been announced on the winners page on Commons. Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks a lot to all contestants and jurors!

Bodil Biørn and women's invisibility in history

On the 11^th of November, Wikimedia Norge and the National Archives of Norway invites you to an event at the National Archive from 17:00 till 19:00. History has often been written by and for men. This is reflected in archives, history books, and on Wikipedia. Why is it important to make source material showing women's perspective on history available? The event is free and open to all. Welcome!

Meet-up at Litteraturhuset

On the 28^th of November, Wikimedia Norge invites you to a meet-up at Litteraturhuset in Oslo from 18:00 till 19:00. Ruth Vatvedt Fjell will be presenting.

Fjell, who is quite interested in curse words, is a professor of lexicography and cares about how language can maintain unbalanced gender patterns. Wikipedia is a huge knowledge base where anyone can contribute. Therefore it's right to ask what the type of language we use means for how knowledge is disseminated?

The event is free and open to all. Welcome! Tables in the bar have been reserved from 19:00 for those who wish to continue the discussion there.

Deadline for applying for wikigrants

The 20^th of November is the deadline for applying for wikigrants. You can apply for getting expenses related to contributing to Wikimedia projects covered.

Dissemination of Retriever accesses

Also on the 20^th of November, 6 accesses to Retriever will be disseminated to active Wikipedia contributors who could use this tool to write articles.

During the spring of 2020, we will test out monthly wiki meet-ups at Kulturhuset in Oslo for all wiki people. No set agenda, just bring what you're working on and get help or just have a chat. Jon Harald will be there from at least 17 till 19.

General assembly March 14^th

Wikimedia Norge's general assembly will be held on March 14^th at noon in the Interkulturelt museum, Tøyenbekken 5, 0188 Oslo. The general assembly documents will be published before the meeting on this page. After the general assembly, everyone is invited for lunch and a tour of the exhibition Typisk dem.

Membership fees due

Wi are grateful for everyone who supports our work! The membership fees for 2020 can be paid via Vipps to 10386 – Wikimedia Norge, or via bank transfer to account no. 1503 08 00866. The fee is normally NOK 200, or NOK 100 for students and others.

Community survey about Wikimedia Diversity Conference in Oslo

Wikimedia Norge is planning a Wikimedia Diversity Conference in 2020, and would love it if you could answer a short survey. You can read more about planning the conference and do the survey on our blog.

Some times Wikimedia Norge needs help with mass uploads to Wikimedia Commons or Wikidata. Would you be able to help with some of this? You don't need a Google account to join. Everyone is welcome to join, and we would like to remind you of Wikimedia Norge's safe space policy. The next meetup after this one will be on May 27^th. We have created a page for meetup notifications, so you can be notified on your favourite wiki whenever a new meetup is announced. Wikigrants

The next deadline for wikigrants will be on May 22^nd. All Wikimedia contributors can apply for wikigrants. The maximum amount you can apply for is 8 000 NOK. The wikigrant must be used for activities that support one or more Wikimedia projects.

The Wikipedia Library

On May 22^nd, accesses to Retriever will be redispersed to active Wikimedians. Access to Sámi newspapers for contributors to the Northern Sámi Wikipedia will also be dispersed for the first time on the same date.

Monthly contest

In June, Iran will be the subject for the monthly contest. In parallel with this, there will be a contest about Norway in the Persian Wikipedia organized by Iranian Wikipedians.

User Research - Looking for volunteers

Hey Jon Harald Søby,

For a current research project we are looking for active community members in Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons who are interested in filling out a survey and participating in an interview. And we would love your input especially in regards to Wikidata. The aim of the research is to identify opportunities for participation and access for new volunteers in the Wikimedia projects. For this purpose we would like to learn from the experiences of the already active community members and find out success factors for participation in the projects. Participation includes filling out a preliminary survey, a self-study and an interview.

If you are interested in participating, simply fill out this survey. The participants in the interviews will be selected on the basis of the answers in order to be able to consider as many different perspectives as possible.

All selected interview partners will receive a book or photo voucher of 25 euros as a thank you.

Now, I wasn't sure if I should make a new section, but I'd rather write here. The pages from the MediaWiki namespace and MediaWiki_talk namespace have not yet been imported. @Tmv: No problem. I read (through Google Translate) that there were some problems with the village pump import – sorry about that. That one page alone was 170 MB when exported as XML, which is way too big for MediaWiki's Special:Import to handle, so I had to split it into several chunks as you saw – sorry that some problems occured because of that.

As for the MediaWiki pages, I can import them – is it only the pages in incubator:Special:PrefixIndex/MediaWiki:Wy/ja (& talk pages), or are there more? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 08:33, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments is starting today, and will last through all of September. All photos of registered cultural heritage in Norway is eligible for the contest – and as usual, there is a writing contest on the Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk and Northern Sámi Wikipedias in conjunction with the photo contest. Good luck!

Virtual wiki meetup

The next virtual wiki meetup will be on Thursday, October 1st. This time the board chair of Wikimedia Norge, Sigrun Espe, will join us as a guest, and the subject will be the cooperative climate on-wiki. The meet-up will take place on Google Meet as usual, from 17.00 CEST at https://wikitreff.wikimedia.no/. You don't need a Google login to participate. Everyone is welcome and we would like to remind everyone of Wikimedia Norge's safe space policy. See you there!

Arctic Knot, Wikimedia language conference in Norway

In the summer of 2021, Wikimedia Norge will organize Arctic Knot 2021. The conference is a continuation of the Celtic Knot series of conferences organized by Wikimedia UK. We are planning for both an in-person and digital conference. The theme will be small languages and the wiki projects.

For the planning of the conference, we are holding a survey. It's rather short, and we would really appreciate if you would answer it. Thank you!

Virtual meet-up

The next virtual meet-up is on Wednesday, October 29^th. Infoboxes are this month's theme. The meet-up will, as usual, take place on Google Meet from 17:00 CET, https://wikitreff.wikimedia.no/. You don't need to have/use a Google account to participate, and there is no requirement for having a camera or microphone. Everyone is welcome to join, and we would like to remind you of Wikimedia Norge's safe space policy.

WikiGap

In the daytime on November 19^th, there will be a small event at the Swedish embassy in Oslo. WikiGap is about minimizing the gender imbalance on Wikipedia. The event will commemorate the 20^th anniversary of the UN Security Council's Resolution 1325. Due to infection control, only a small number of participants may join. Send an email to contact@wikimedia.no if you wish to participate!

Wikigrants

The next deadline for wikigrants is on November 20^th. All contributors to the various Wikimedia projects can apply for our wikigrants. The maximum amount is 8 000 NOK. The wikigrant must be used for activities that support one or more Wikimedia projects.

The Wikipedia Library

On November 22^nd, accesses to Retriever will again be dispersed to active Wikipedians. Access to Sámi newspapers for contributors to the Northern Sámi Wikipedia will also be dispersed on the same date.

Giellavahkku, Sámi Language Week

This week, the Sámi Language Week is organized all over Norway. We are marking the language week by launching a cooperation with the National Library and Giellatekno at UiT The Arctic University of Norway about placenames. We have written about it on our blog!

Community Wishlist Survey 2021: Invitation

The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.

The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!

Community Wishlist Survey 2021

We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.

In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.

We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.

The English Wikipedia was launched on the 15th of January, 2001. The theme of the 20-year celebration is celebrating the people behind Wikipedia – all of you who have contributed in some way to make us able to celebrate 20 years of free knowledge. Due to the pandemic, we can't celebrate in-person at the moment, but we hope to be able to organize a celebration within the year.

Submit a greeting

We have made a congratulatory page where anyone can send their regards to Wikipedia. We hope it will be a nice page that shows why Wikipedia is as important as ever. Submit your greeting now!

Wiki meet-up

The next wiki meet-up will be on January 27th. Karl Wettin from Wikimedia Sverige will participate, giving a presentation of Wikispeech… This is an exciting open-source project about crowdsourced voice synthesis. It also has applications well beyond the Wikimedia projects. Any suggestions for future meet-up topics are very welcome at the bottom of the meet-up page!

Events to look forward to in 2021

• Wikimedia Norge's general assembly will be held on the 6th of March. It will be held entirely online this year, just like last year. More information coming soon.
• We are planning a digital administrator meet-up for all administrators in the Wikipedias in Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk, probably in March. If you are interested in helping organize this, please contact Jon Harald.
• Arctic Art+Feminism: We will organize four editathons during 2021, where the theme is female artists and indigenous art. More information coming soon.
• WikiGap: If the pandemic allows, there will be a WikiGap event at the Swedish Embassy in Oslo. We hope to see you there! This year's theme is female activists from South America.
• Arctic Knot: In June, we will organize the Wikimedia language conference, Arctic Knot. This is a continuation of the Celtic Knot series of conferences. More information coming soon!

New membership system

We are implementing a new membership system. What does this mean for you? Hopefully, as little as possible. For us, however, it means better follow-up of our members. Next week, we will send out a newsletter containing information about membership fees for 2021, among other things. They can be paid via Vipps or via AvtaleGiro. If you have already paid your dues for 2021, you can discard this.

Survey from the Wikimedia Foundation

The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for answers to this survey from Wikimedians around the world. The WMF has made a Norwegian translation of the survey. You can answer it anonymously without sharing an email address, but if you do, you shouldn't close the browser before you have completed the survey.

General assembly

This year's general assembly was held on March 6th, and the minutes are available here. Amongst other things, it was decided to give Wikimedia Norge an official name in Southern Sámi, Lule Sámi and Kven. That means that we now have 6 official names: Wikimedia Norge (Norwegian Bokmål), Wikimedia Noreg (Norwegian Nynorsk), Wikimedia Norga (Northern Sámi), Wikimedia Vuodna (Lule Sámi), Wikimedia Nöörje (Southern Sámi) and Wikimedia Norja (Kven).

New board

Hogne Neteland exited the board after many years of service, we would like to thank him for his efforts! Sigrun Espe continues as board chair. The board has two new board members:

• Fredrik Ljone, Bergen. Board member, elected for the 2021–2023 term. Ljone is dedicated to sharing knowledge, open data and rule of law. He has taken the initiative to make the law more accessible for everyone through jusleksikon.no and rettspraksis.no.
• Stian Amadeus Antonsen, Oslo. Deputy board member, elected for the 2021–2022 term. Antonsen has a lot of experience from different civil society organizations, and works as a political advisor in the Norwegian Students' and Academics' International Assistance Fund (SAIH). He is dedicated to diversity and inclusion, and wants everyone to be able to share in the production and dissemination of knowledge.

Welcome to them both!

Arctic Knot

On June 24–25, Wikimedia Norge will organize the digital Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference.

Wikipedia is a cornerstone of the digital age, but the knowledge you'll find isn't evenly distributed across languages. The Wikimedia movement is about to implement its 2030 strategy, while UNESCO is working on the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL), which starts in 2022. IDIL shows the potential that technology has in supporting and maintaining indigenous languages. These milestones form a frame for the conference, where we will discuss linguistic diversity in the Wikimedia projects, and how to build good linguistic environments for the users of indigenous and underrepresented language communities.

Arctic Knot is a conference for all Wikipedians and Wikimedians who are interested in indigenous languages, and also for organizations and institutions working in this field. This year's special focus will be on the Sámi languages. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Jon Harald Søby at jhsoby@wikimedia.no.

Administrator meetup

On Saturday, March 20, we held a administrator meetup for the Norwegian-language Wikimedia projects. There were 10 participants, of which one is a Wiktionary administrator, and the rest are administrators on the Norwegian Bokmål Wikipedia. The meetup was initiated by Wikimedia Norge on request from the community.

During the meetup there was a walkthrough of "hidden" or little-known administrator tools, like mass deletion, new blocking options and patrolling tools. There was also broad agreement that there is a need to update and centralize rules and guidelines on-wiki.

Wikimedia Enterprise

With its new project Wikimedia Enterprise, the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a way to cooperate with commercial actors like Google and Amazon. A lot of commercial actors are already using Wikimedia content, but without any formal agreements or financial compensation. Wikimedia Enterprise is meant to be a service that will improve the user experience of Wikimedia outside of the Wikimedia platforms, and also be financially self-sustaining.

According to an article in Wired, the Wikimedia Foundation wants to make the effort of the volunteers more visible, and stimulate the tech giants to help contribute to the volunteer community.

The Norwegian minister of education, Guri Melby, has sent a video message to all Wikipedians in connection with the 20th anniversary! Go have a look! Remember that you too can send a message!

Approuval of Tachelhit Wikipedia [ Wp/shi ]

Hello sir Jon Harald Søby.

This is a long time we are working on this project, and after putting the question on the Talk:Language committee about the approuval of the project it seems that its stuck with the "verification of the content". See the thread here. The Co-founder of Wikimedia MA User Group sir Anass Sedrati as the usergroup is supporting the project (Tachelhit is a Berber language, which have an official statut in Morocco) have sent a message to one of the language committee members Mr. MF-Warburg with contact of a linguist specialising in Tachelhit language working in the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture in Rabat. We contacted him as well and he seem to accept to verify the content for external validation, but it seems like he still didn't get any email from the Language committee. Could the Language committee contact him so the project can be approved ?

Arctic Knot

On June 24–25, the Arctic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference is finally under way! The conference is fully digital, and we hope you'll find the program interesting! There will be exciting talks and panel debates, and an opportunity to get to know projects like Abstract Wikipedia and Wikisource.

The full program is now available on Meta-Wiki, and you can read more about the conference on our blog.

Registration for the conference has opened, and participation is free of charge.

You can register all the way up until the conference starts, but if you wish to participate in the Unlocking the potential of digital language archives session, you need to register by June 20th in order to be able to use the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR) as the session is happening.

The program is varied and exciting, and we think everyone will find something interesting in the program.

Du you wish to contribute to the conference as a volunteer? All participation is very welcome!

Maybe you'd like to help test the platform we'll be using beforehand? Or do you have any questions you think should be raised during the panel debate? Maybe you'd like to contribute with entertainment of some sort? Get in touch on arcticknot@wikimedia.no!

The monthly contest on Wikipedia

The subject of June's monthly contest will be artists. Edits to all articles on artists will yield points, but we hope many would like to write about Sámi and other indigenous artists!

Wikimania

This year's Wikimania will also be fully digital, enabling even more people to participate. The theme will be 20 years of Wikipedia, so it is a time to celebrate what the Wikimedia movement has achieved, and look back on the journey that led us here. You can now propose sessions for Wikimania. If you have an idea for a session, but are not sure about how to angle it, feel free to get in touch with us. We can help with brainstorming and whatever else you need!

Wiki meet-ups

It's not long before we can hold in-person meet-ups again, and some plans are already under way. It would be great for more people to be able to join meet-ups. Wikimedia Norge can help financially if you wish to organize a meet-up where you live.

I recently heard about your diffedit user script, and started using it; it's very useful, thank you.

It made me wonder whether you would be interested in the script I suggested here for changing author name stings to authors, on Wikidata. Arctic Knot – a big success

The final thing we did before the summer holidays was to hold the Arctic Knot Conference. We spent most of 2021 preparing the conference, and the conference lasted for two days with a lot of participation. Most of the videos from the conference are available in this playlist on YouTube.

13–17 August

Wikimania

Wikimania starts tomorrow, and the deadline for registering is midnight UTC tonight. Wikimania lasts for 5 days, and the program is adapted to multiple timezones, so it will take place at various parts of the day. There are plenty of interesting submissions!

Wikimedia Norge is participating with a workshop. The workshop's goal is to further develop the idea of a Wikimedia hub for underrepresented language communities. Everyone is welcome to participate!

Next wiki meet-up

25 August

The first meet-up of the fall will be about Abstract Wikipedia. We will watch Denny Vrandečić's presentation from Arctic Knot together, and discuss afterwards. The meet-up will take place on Google Meet, and start at 17.00 CEST. Simply explained, Abstract Wikipedia is about writing articles as functions in order to make them language-independent.

International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples

9 August marks the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, and we wrote a blog post based on some of the presentations from the Arctic Knot Conference.

Wikipedia 20 years

Due to Wikipedia's 20 year anniversary, we have received video greetings from government ministers and the President of the Sámi Parliament. You can watch the videos here. The greetings are for everyone who has contributed to Wikipedia during its 20 years of existence – thank you very much for your efforts!

The Norwegian Bokmål Wikipedia turns 20 on November 26, and this will be celebrated during the December 1 wiki meet-up. That will be a virtual meet-up with a quiz and other fun. Do you wish to receive a 20th anniversary T-shirt? Send us your address and size (S–XL) to wikimedia@wikimedia.no!

Giellavahkku and Sámi work

Maybe you've been wondering why there's been so much Sámi stuff in social media lately? The reason is the Sámi language week, Giellavahkku, which aims to make the Sámi languages more visible. The Sámi languages, culture and history are an important part of the diversity of knowledge. We have summarized the work we're doing with regards to Sámi languages in this blog post.

The Lapp Codicil was repatriated to the Sámi Archives this month, after a long process. The Lapp Codicil is still the base of the laws for borders in the North of Scandinavia. It will soon also be available on Wikimedia Commons.

Queer culture year 2022

Througout 2022, the queer culture year (Skeivt kulturår) will be marked in Norway. In preparation for this, we have uploaded 139 interviews by the Queer Archive to Wikimedia Commons. We also have several other projects planned for next year.

– The fact that queer experiences, history and culture aren't reflected online is a blank spot in our common history, says Heide Rohde Rafto, acting academic director of the Queer Archive of Norway. She adds that queer history is not only the history of LGBT+ people, but of the whole of society.

By engaging in the queer cultural year, we are hoping to fill in these blank spots. And we're doing this from a diversity point of view – it's not all about gender and sexuality, but also about individuality and the people who have made an effort to effect change.

Language Diversity Hub

Diversity of knowledge shouldn't just be limited to Norway. Through international cooperations, we are hoping to create a gathering point for those who are working on indigenous and underrepresented languages. In this project we are joined by several participants of the Arctic Knot Conference this summer. You can read more about this work on this page.

Retriever

It will soon be time to disperse access tokens for Retriever again. You can sign up from November 15. Reminders will be posted on Torget and Samfunnshuset when the sign-up opens.

Wikimedia Sverige have a separate deal with the Swedish Retriever. They have many access tokens available, and can share them with Norwegian volunteers as well. Only Swedish media is available through their deal. Sign up on this list on the Swedish Wikipedia if you're interested in getting access to the Swedish Retriever.

Wikigrants

Now that society has reopened, there are more opportunities to go out and about! There are several activities you can apply for a wikigrant for. Please is there a way we could assist in the content verification process of Wp/guw as I understand you reached out to an expert. Any update? As a test-admin for this project, I am reaching out to you because it is becoming increasingly difficult for editors to contribute to Gungbe Wiktionary(Wt/guw) and Gungbe Wikipedia (Wp/guw) at the same time without making errors in typing Wt/guw and Wp/guw. I see something similar here w:eml:Zòbia. Also please see how this is done here Nigeria orthography (with language code guw) and Benin Orthography(with language code guw-bj assigned to it). Even though most readers can read text in the Nigeria orthography (being the older orthography developed before the Benin orthography was developed), I would like to see or know how both orthographies can be accommodated in the future. English Wikipedia most visited

Statistics for pageviews to encyclopedias in Norway in 2021 were recently shared on Torget. Not surprisingly, Wikipedia is the most-visited encyclopedia; the English-language edition is slightly ahead of the Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk editions (combined), with 348 and 325 million pageviews, respectively. In comparison, the next encyclopedia on the list, Store norske leksikon, had 112 million pageviews. The numbers speak for themselves: Wikipedia is where people go to learn.

It is also a reminder that Wikipedians' efforts are incredibly important. We hope these numbers can help motivate both new and experienced contributors.

Year of Queer Culture

panel debate in Bergen

On Thursday 24 March, Wikimedia Norge and the National Archive for Queer History will hold a panel debate at Litteraturhuset, Bergen. The theme for the debate is how archives, museums and Wikipedia can make queer history, art and culture more visible. IT will also examine how we use contemporary labels for the past. A common understanding of what queer history is will help us to make queer history more visible.

The event is part of the Year of Queer Culture 2022.

Wiki meet-up and general assembly in Bergen

Wikimedia Norge will host a wiki meet-up with pizza and something to drink at Villa Paradiso Ole Bull on 25 March, starting 18:30. Register on the wiki meet-up page or by e-mail to wikimedia@wikimedia.no.

The next day, on 26 March from 12–14, we will hold our general assembly, taking place at Litteraturhuset, Bergenː All members are welcome! The general assembly will also be streamed for those who can't be there in person, and voting will happen digitally.

Active contributors can get a travel stipend. Send an e-mail to astrid@wikimedia.no in order to apply.

Query about test projects for new languages

Hi, Jon Harald. Not sure if you remember me, but we were admins together on Wikidata for a time, when my username was PinkAmpersand. I saw that you'd commented on phab:T300378 as a LangCom member, and so hoped you could answer a question of mine related to LangCom and Toki Pona

A fairly inexperienced user has created a request to (re)create a Wikipedia in Toki Pona [en/no]. This is something that I and a number of other tokiponists have been hoping to make happen for some time, but suffice it to say we would have put a significantly greater amount of effort into a request. We are aware that there's a fairly high bar for conlang wikis, and think that we can meet that bar, but had planned to take more time putting together that case.

I find I have three options:

1. Ask the user to delete the request for the time being.
2. Comment on the request asking that consideration be deferred while the rest of us get our house in order.
3. Seize the day and put together a proper request in place of the rather generic one that's been filed.

I'd like to do #3, but a crucial question becomes that of the test project requirement. A Toki Pona "Wikipesija" exists, dually licensed in CC-BY-SA 3.0 and 4.0, with at time of writing 1,369 content pages, listed on a stats page that for some reason doesn't show our 20 active users (I'm there as "Tansin"). (Any pursuit of option 3 would be coupled with a push to at least double our number of articles, hopefully more than double it, and recruit more editors (there being a sizable pool of tokiponists to draw from).) The concern about moving away from Wikipesija is that we've localized there to a greater degree than would be possible on Incubator (for instance, translating special pages' names and adding a namespace), and, more importantly, it's what users are used to, and I think we would lose some in any move to Incubator. Thus my question is whether it would be possible to have Wikipesija assessed as the test project, or whether LangCom would require us to copy or fork to Incubator in order to have any request be considered. -- Tamzin^{[cetacean needed]} (she/they) 15:48, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi Tamzin, hope you're doing well!

We have made exceptions for the test project requirements in the past, for projects that have already had active communities elsewhere (the most prominent example is probably the Western Armenian Wikipedia, which was started inside the Armenian Wikipedia). That said, there is no automaticality in Toki Pona being eligible according to the Language proposal policy, but given that we approved Kotava and Toki Pona is much more well-known than that, I would say you have a good chance.

As for the request itself, a mix of #2 and #3 would work well. Remember that it doesn't have to be perfect from the start at all – it's a wiki after all, so if you just make some small improvements now and leave a note that you'll expand more on it later, that's completely fine. Montenegrin Wiki

@Пан Хаунд: Hi! I am not sure, to be honest. I think we will have to bring it up for discussion again in the language committee mailing list. There is (now) an ISO 639 code, which there wasn't in the past, so that is one of the formal requirements fulfilled. The other relevant requirement in the Language proposal policy is the point that says "The language must be sufficiently unique that it could not coexist on a more general wiki.". If I remember correctly, the consensus in the committee in the past was that if they had been requested today, all wikis in the Serbo-Croatian language/dialect continuum would have had to share one wiki because the languages are so similar. However, I totally understand that it feels "unfair" for Montenegrin to be the only one that is "left out in the cold" because it is the only one that doesn't predate the language proposal policy. So it is a difficult matter.

As I understand, the main reason why cnrwiki isn't approved is similarity between Montenegrin, Croatian, Serbian and Bosnian. But there is Rusyn Wikipedia project. Status of Rusyn language is ambiguous. Some scholars consider the language as a dialect of Ukrainian and others think it is a separate language. Moreover, Rusyn language is an old name of Ukrainian language. But Rusyn speakers had no problem with eligibility of their projects.

Wikigrants and news archive access

December 1^st is the deadline to apply for wikigrants from Wikimedia Norge. If you have an idea for a wiki-related project you'd like to do, but need some extra money to do it, you should apply! Anything goes as long as the end result benefits the Wikimedia projects.

On the same date we will be dispersing access to the news archive Retriever for the period until May 20^th, 2023. In Retriever, you can search the archives of 2,916 Norwegian news sources. Sign up on the list on Wikipedia if you're interested.

Committee being put together

How should we increase the number of members of Wikimedia Norge? We hope you would like to give us some input.

The 2022 general assembly decided that a committee should be put together to find out how to incentivize members to join. The board of Wikimedia Norge has written a mandate to give the committee a good frame of reference. The committee will consist of members and other Wikimedians, as well as a representative from the administration, and will deliver a report to the board on January 15^th, 2023.

We encourage anyone who wants more info or wants to join the committee to get in touch with board chair Marie Nicolaisen by November 27^th on marie@wikimedia.no.

Start-up help

Do you know someone who wants to contribute to Wikipedia, but doesn't know where to start?

On Wikipedia they can get a mentor, and there is a forum for new users. Now they can also meet an experienced Wikipedian "face-to-face" in an online event to get help live. Wikimedia Norge's start-up help will happen on the first Wednesday of every month. The first opportunity is December 7^th, 19–20 CET.

This is happening before Christmas

Wiki meet-up: Tuesday November 22^nd, 17:00–22:00 at Deichman Bjørvika, Oslo. Active contributors will meet up for a workshop and exchange of experiences. After the meet-up there will be a social meeting at nearby Døgnvill Burger.

Start-up help: Wednesday December 7^th, 19:00–20:00. Digital meet-up for new Wikipedians to get started.

Christmas meet-up: Thursday December 8^th we will meet at Dattera til Hagen in Oslo. Those who want to eat will meet at 17:00; there will be a quiz from 19:00 onwards.

Om din användarsida: Okej, jag förstår... det är nog lika bra att du har din presentationen på språken som du brukar förstå/skriva, speciellt om du uppdaterar ganska ofta. Jag håller med att norska, svenska och även danska är ganska lika; men jag måste erkänna att jag trodde det var väldigt svårt för danska, norska och svenska personer att förstå varandra (speciellt när jag var de första åren i Sverige 😅). @ꠢꠣꠍꠘ ꠞꠣꠎꠣ: I'm happy to help, but this can get a bit complicated. Replacing "।" should be fine, but both "," and ":" are used within a lot of code (like CSS or URLs) where it shouldn't be changed; therefore I need to exclude links (both external and internal) and tables (which often have some CSS code in them)

Zgh Wikipedia not added to pywikibot

UnknownSiteError: Language 'zgh' does not exist in family wikipedia

Judging from the error message (specifically the part that says "Math extension cannot connect to Restbase"), it should be fixed "automatically" when phab:T350242 is completed, which will probably happen some time next week.
