Why is this user awesome? Earlier this year he took a wikibreak. I was absent as well, at that time, but I read about hordes of vandals raiding articles and ambushing helpless wikimaidens. If he would turn to the dark side of the force, it.wiki would be razed in one nanosecond. Why is this user awesome? Back in 2010, a teacher at Tec de Monterrey, Mexico City campus began working on an idea to create some way for the campus to get involved with Wikipedia in a systematic way. She went to the campus library to ask about putting up a poster for a student club, meeting with its director Lourdes Epstein. She not only got the poster up, she gained what she calls her "guardian angel," and advocate for Wikipedia with Tec de Monterrey administration. Wiki Learning would have never gotten as far, and probably would not have survived even, if it were not for Lourdes' tireless support and advocacy. Directly, the library has supported the annual Dia de Muertos Estilo Wiki photo contest (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:D%C3%ADa_de_Muertos_estilo_Wiki), and her promotion of Wikipedia at the main campus of the Tec de Monterrey system resulted in "Wiki Learning" accepted as part of the Tec 21 Model program, which seeks to integrate new ideas and new technologies into the curriculum of the school system. Essentially, because of her work, Wiki Learning gained recognition from the school system before we even got user group status with the Foundation!

Why is this user awesome? Paola Ricaurte is one of two teachers who independently began working with Wikipedia in their classrooms at Tec de Monterrey, Mexico City campus. It took about 2 years before the two ever realized what the other was doing. However, once that happened, the synergy was been amazing. Paola is a professor and researcher of communications and new/social media, who uses Wikipedia in her class Comunicación y Estudio de Medios. She has since branched out to teacher training in Wikipedia, providing the theoretical background to make using the idea of working with Wikipedia more acceptable to professors and administration. She has since expanded this role with her work at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (where she is also a professor), become part of the Education Collaborative, and is one of the organizers of the education pre-conference for the 2015 Wikimania.

Why is this user awesome? I nominate these two together because of a project these two created an executed together. In March of 2015, three campuses of the Tec de Monterrey held a pilot of a event called Experiencias Retadoras (Challenging experiences) This is a system-wide initiative to set aside between 3 and 5 days in the semester for students to work on a project, and only that projects. Projects need to have some kind of technical basis, with preference towards those having social impact. Wikipedia is perfect for this. For this pilot, the basic idea was an editathon, but these two professionals took it a step further. They organized a Wiki expedition for foreign students at the Mexico City campus to town called Tepotzlan, important both for its pre Hispanic and colonial history. (More information here https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/Newsletter/March_2015/Novel_photo_projects_related_to_editathon_at_Tec_de_Monterrey) This idea was so sucessful and got such good feedback from the students, it is the basis for Experiencias Retadoras activities being planned for September 2015.

For this pilot, the basic idea was an editathon, but these two professionals took it a step further. They organized a Wiki expedition for foreign students at the Mexico City campus to town called Tepotzlan, important both for its pre Hispanic and colonial history. In the English Wikipedia, he has authored more than 50 articles and co-authored 6 GAs,15 DYKs and 5 ITNs. It is noteworthy that he co-authored the first South Asian Good Article related to navies. He primarily works in the articles related to Indian military articles where the recognition has been generally very low. He protects the military articles from frequent attacks of nationalist vandalism and acts as the silent guardian. He is also a founding member of the WikiProject IPL and has actively promoted the growth of the project. He often makes beautiful barnstars which are being used across the project. As of July 1, my contract for the Wikipedia Store Operations Manager was terminated due to budgetary reasons, so someone else at WMF will need to approve my nomination; however, SWAGBOT is WMF's fulfillment partner, so I guess I will be 'shipping' the shirt to myself. ;D The wikipedia community has really become like a family to me, and though I will remain an active member for shipping orders and producing merch for the Wikipedia Store, I am heartbroken that I will no longer be playing the active role in the store that I once did, but am very grateful for the opportunity to serve the wikipedia community for the past two years. Why is this user awesome? Coolabahapple is a relatively new editor - they opened their account in 2014, but didn't really start editing until January 2015. In that time they've worked hard to improve Wikipedia and introduce new articles, especially in the field of children's literature - a genre that is often overlooked on the site. They're great at collaboration and show an eagerness to learn new things, which they pick up on very quickly. I think that they more than deserve a t-shirt.
