Wikipedia's editor of the week award and the merchandise giveaways

edit

Hi! I was recently "appointed" by User:Buster7 and User:Go Phightins! on enwiki to be the "T-shirt giveaway coordinator" (see w:Special:Diff/641446952) and wanted to get in touch, make sure nominating every new EotW awardee meets your criteria, and let you know that we'll probably be sending in weekly requests. Cheers, --L235 (talk) enwiki 18:59, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Lixxx235, that's great news! Welcome aboard! I see you that you've added a couple users to the Merch giveaways nomination form. I have added the first user to the Merchandise giveaways/Nominations page (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Merchandise_giveaways/Nominations) and made contact with them. For the the second nomination, as well as for future nominations, please add them directly to the Merchandise giveaways/Nominations page-- using the template formatting. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you!! --JMatthews (WMF) (talk) 22:44, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, the form on Merchandise giveaways/Nominations wasn't working because the prefill page name had a typo("giveways"), which I fixed (in Special:Diff/10910966). Cheers, --L235 (talk) enwiki 04:57, 8 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Editor of the week- merchandise giveaway in advance?

edit

Would it be fine by you if we (the editor of the week team) pre-nominated our future editors of the week from the approved list for the merchandise giveaways so it'd be all set to go so they'd be getting a gratis t-shirt notification the day of the award? Alternatively, we could also state that any awardee is qualified for the t-shirt right on the talk page template and for them to email you for more info? I (or another coordinator) can pass along a list of approved noms if you'd like to go that route. Cheers, --L235 (talk) enwiki 01:58, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Lixxx235, thank you for your inquiry. It would perhaps help me to answer your question if I knew what was trying to be achieved. Are you wanting to save time? Are you wanting the awardee to be notified immediately upon announcement? Who are the awardees approved by, and what is involved in the approval process? Having more information on the "Editor of the Week" team and it's processes would be helpful to know. Thanks! --JMatthews (WMF) (talk) 02:16, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Yeah, I'm trying to notify the awardee of the merchandise giveaway at the same time as the actual award is given. The approval process is a two-week process of looking to the proposed awardee's edit history, including content work, how s/he treats other editors, etc. In the end, to be approved, there generally must be no objection and at least a second by someone other than the nominator, someone (who didn't nominate or second) to move the potential awardee to the approved list. After that, depending on how long the approved list is, the candidate receives a talk page message about the award. We usually try to make sure the candidate doesn't know they're being awarded before actually being awarded. I hope that answers some of your questions :) --L235 (talk) enwiki 02:44, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
OK, sounds good. Last question: when you say that you'd like to "pre-nominate your future editors of the week", what does that entail? --JMatthews (WMF) (talk) 02:54, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'll submit nominations for the merchandise giveaway for the approved EotW nominations with a "do not award until" date (no more than three weeks away) so you can process and approve the request in advance to notify the awardee of the award preferably as soon as (or close to) when they find out they were awarded EotW, if that's fine by you. For example, if you OK this, I'd submit merchandise giveaway nominations for User:BoringHistoryGuy today with a "do-not-award-until" date of Jan. 18 and a nomination for User:Bernard Mc Nally with a do-not-award-until date of January 25. When the 18th rolls around, I'll post a request for User:Darylgolden with do-not-award-until-Febuary-1, and so on. Cheers, --L235 (talk) enwiki 03:16, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I see. Due to our workload, we dedicate one day a week to working on the Giveaways Program, so I would not be able to guarantee the awardee would be notified on the day they are notified. It would be best to to provide them with my contact info and have them get in touch with me. Once they have been notified though, please add the nomination to the Giveaways Nomination page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Merchandise_giveaways/Nominations. Thank you! --JMatthews (WMF) (talk) 03:29, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi, sorry for the slow reply. Are you suggesting we tell the recipient that they are eligible for the merchandise giveaway when we tell them they got the award, or should we nominate them day-of-award and wait for you to process? Cheers, --L235 (talk) enwiki 21:06, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merchandise giveaways/Nominations

edit

On question on the above page. I've noticed that the approved users are more or less, the firsts nominated, but I've also seen that along the page there are users with a huge support by the community, can you do something for them? Or the criteria is strictly FIFO (i.e. first input first "outfit" .... considering that the prize is a t-shirt :-D :-P ) --Andyrom75 (talk) 07:11, 8 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have the same question. The last approved was more than a month ago. Probably you had better things to do than spending (read: investing) WMF's money ;-?  Klaas `Z4␟` V07:44, 8 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Any feedback about it? I really care about the people I've nominate and that other have voted too :-) Thanks for letting me know, --Andyrom75 (talk) 18:00, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi Andyrom75, as of July 1, 2015, Victoria Shchepakina is now managing the Giveaways Program. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you! --JMatthews (WMF) (talk) 00:21, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Juli. I'll contact Victoria to have some feedback; however in the meanwhile KRobinson has contact two of the people that I've nominated, so I want to thanks KR. as well for caring. --Andyrom75 (talk) 21:39, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
