wiki/Wy/hbs

Hi! I am contacting you based on previous communication...

Would it be possible to incubate a test wiki with content in macrolanguage - polycentric language like ISO 639-3:hbs?
Hopefully with contributors from SH, HR, BS, SR and Montenegrin language.
All of this time there is no established Wy in any of them. Serbian did not advance much in 8 years. Bosnian experiment (with single page) just got deleted...--Zblace (talk) 05:08, 7 January 2022 (UTC) ...UPDATED--Zblace (talk) 19:30, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
@Zblace Serbian Wikivoyage is testing afaik. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 09:32, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Good point. I stay corrected and have updated the statement.
I can imagine preference for Serbian would be ekavica and not ijekavica (which is dominant among all others). --Zblace (talk) 09:40, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
I just realized that Wy/SR is incubating since 2013...that is not a good sign. Maybe better to try taking part in joint effort. --Zblace (talk) 12:09, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Well, due to difficult-to-judge culture relations of former Yugoslavia, I doubt if creating new sh.* or hbs.* projects would have any benefits on Wikimedia Movements. There's also a bad signal that Wy/sr is inactive for at least 5 years. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 00:21, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
There is nothing to risk as far as I can judge, so why not experiment? --Zblace (talk) 14:24, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
Have you read [1]? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 06:22, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
User:Zblace: I think you can go ahead and create Requests for new languages/Wikivoyage Serbo-Croatian (or similar), and also an incubator:Wy/hbs, if you wish. The discussion can be more focussed there. --MF-W 13:25, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
I would however say that there are really risks if we allow incubator:Wy/sh or incubator:Wy/hbs to be created, since therefore there will have many more illogical campaigns to say "hey we should merge bswiki, hrwiki, srwiki and cnr testwiki to shwiki" which may result conflicts of interests between administrators of em. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 05:45, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
What? --MF-W 11:13, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
I'm not sure what means by your "What?", for example, both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia aren't NATO members, while Croatia and Montenegro are NATO members, plus, serbia is still nationally hating NATO so there are in fact conflicts of interests between srwiki and hrwiki adminships. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:02, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
@Verdy p: I thought that this is what you should explain, as you said elsewhere that "sh", a deprecated ISO 639-1 code, is not actually abandoned and still should use in Wikimedia sites? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:24, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Angika Wikipedia has been active for a long time. I think it's time to approve and make wikipedia more reachable to Angika speakers. Thanks everyone.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Propriyam! (talk)

Translated strings

Could you please point me to where the translations of the 'official status' columns are stored? Alternatively let me suggest a few changes for the Hungarian translations:

  • "Verified as eligible"
    • currently: "Ellenőrzött jogosultnak" (lit. checked for the authorized [person])
    • suggested: "Ellenőrizve: létrehozható" (lit. checked: it can be created)
  • "Discussion"
    • currently: "Vita" (lit. debate (Talk pages on Wikimedia use this translation as well))
    • suggested: "Megbeszélés alatt" ('currently discussed'; lit. 'under discussion')
  • "On hold"
Done Feel free to fix them at {{Lc-row}} in the future. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 07:46, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Appeal

A proposal to reset eowikt got speedily rejected some weeks ago:

https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Proposals_for_closing_projects%2FDeletion_of_Esperanto_wiktionary&type=revision&diff=22391767&oldid=22389850

> This may be appealed to the closing member or to another
> member of LangCom, who may re-open it if that
> member finds the discussion to be of value

I APPEAL AGAINST THE REJECTION and request the proposal to be reopened.

Arguments:

  • There are indeed 5 oppose votes. However, 4 of them come from accounts from Russia, potentially controlled by less than 4 persons, and in any case obviously collected/invited by a single user "Vami". One oppose is from China.
  • Below in the section "Long comments" there are 2 "hidden support votes":

https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Proposals_for_closing_projects%2FDeletion_of_Esperanto_wiktionary&type=revision&diff=22376282&oldid=22373397

and

https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Proposals_for_closing_projects%2FDeletion_of_Esperanto_wiktionary&type=revision&diff=22370261&oldid=22370236

  • The preferred objective of the proposal was changed from "delete" to "reset". The goal is not to eradicate that wiki, but to eradicate the piracy inside it.
  • One neutral vote:

https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Proposals_for_closing_projects%2FDeletion_of_Esperanto_wiktionary&type=revision&diff=22389850&oldid=22389283

says

> that copyright infringement needs to get urgently solved or else that's
> going to stir up some serious legal trouble which is something noone
> ever wants to be in

The speedy closure of the proposal brings the message "there are no copyright problems on eowikt", and this is very bad. Without reopening the proposal and giving it some more weeks time for discussion, the copyright infringements on eowikt will never get solved. The underlying problem are copyright infringements in that wiki, and they should not be denied by speedily rejecting the request for reset, particularly in the light of the fact that no other solution is in sight. Finally, this rejected request still causes permanent trolling. Please re-open it. Taylor 49 (talk) 02:51, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Why not file a new one instead? Also, this wiki doesn't seem to have any matters that can result closure. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:35, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
Please do not make such proposals. Creating a new request would not help the user at all, as I am sure you are fully aware. --MF-W 04:17, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
I stand by my previous decision. The creation of the closing proposal was forum-shopping. The message of speedily closing it is not "there are no copyright problems" or whatever, but: The problem needs to be solved in some proper manner, e.g. via the still open RFC, not by opening yet another place of discussion. --MF-W 04:17, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
No, it was NOT "forum-shopping". The second RFC Requests for comment/Resolve massive copyright infringement on Wiktionary in Esperanto in the matter has been out for 7 months with no result. Some other member of the LC please look at this. Taylor 49 (talk) 00:09, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
Taylor, you have used multiple RfCs, SRCU requests, SRM requests, user and project talk pages, and LangCom to seek action on eowikt. I understand that this is very important to you, but aggressively seeking action through nearly a dozen channels isn't going to result in a positive outcome here. Vermont (talk) 01:51, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
This would be difficult to produce anything other than moving the discussion from the RFC to the space on langcom. If it won't yield any groundbreaking results, it's more helpful for you to address issues that are still unresolved in the RFC. --Sotiale (talk) 11:06, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Approval of Wp/sdc

Ladies / Gentlemen, I am one of the users who have been trying a number of months to make the Wikipedia in the Sassaresu language (Wp/sdc/ [2] - a variant of the old and respectable Sardinian language) come out of the Incubator. And right, now where we have reached and surpassed the 1,000 pages (1,172 - see: [3] ) and are ready to claim an honorable place for Sassarese, among the regional Wikipedias of Europe. Due to recent editing, Wikipedia in linga sassaresa is now well developed. I thus propose for the Committee to approve its coming out of the Incubator. Please review the project for final approval. Thank. Sincerely yours,--Sirmio Cabinigre 08:45, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

I would like to show my support for the approval of this Wikipedia. It has a community that edits articles everyday, with MediaWiki messages already translated and more than 1,000 articles. Caro de Segeda (talk) 20:23, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

Looking at Cherokee Wiktionary the wikis is moribund and the only creations for past three years are spambots. I believe that the wiki needs to return to be closed and returned to a better patrolled and managed beta space. page creations  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:39, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Tyap Wikipedia Approval Request

Greetings dear Language Committee! I hereby solicit for your kind consideration concerning the delay in the approval of a domain for the Tyap Wikipedia in spite of having met the stated criteria for approval. Our Test Project has gotten not less than three active editors since July 2021, who have translated hundreds of articles into Tyap with more being created. We have translated the over 500 "Most Useful" MediaWiki messages in Translatewiki and have more being translated. Thanks in anticipation of your positive response and quick action.

Arbëresh translation tool

Hi! I am working on starting a new Wikipedia in Arbëresh. I have already made a request and started the test project on Incubator. An additional requirement for the project to succeed is the translation of the MediaWiki user interface. Therefore I am kindly asking you to enable the translation tool for Arbëresh (aae)! I have also made a request over at translatewiki.net, but it doesn't seem like they can help me. Thank you in advance! --Ftillimi (talk) 18:38, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello. Can you link to the request on translatewiki, where you could not be helped, please? --MF-W 11:15, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
Hello! In the meanwhile I received a lengthy response at translatewiki on what I can do. I should wait for a site admin or bureaucrat to enable the translation tools for Arbëresh. But still I guess it can be done also from Metawikis side if I'm not mistaken. I hope it gets enabled soon, so I can work on translating the MediaWiki UI into Arbëresh. Ftillimi (talk) 12:20, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
In this case, translatewiki.net and MediaWiki is one and the same – it's the official translation platform for the MediaWiki software. So, yes, if they process your request, you can start to translate the interface. -- MF-W 23:28, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Approval of Assamese Wikiquote (Wq/as)

Hello. I would like to request Language committee to approve the creation of the site for Assamese Wikiquote project. The test project has been active enough since August 2021. Besides, the required criteria have been fulfilled. As of now, there are 300+ articles in the Assamese Wikiquote test wiki. ---chanakyakdas (talk) 05:05, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Greetings. Please note that your request (for approval) is currently under discussion on langcom. --Sotiale (talk) 00:16, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
I will repeat here what I just wrote on my talk page: I have reviewed the activity of the test-wiki and a good amount of the articles. The activity is good, however, most of the articles are very short, containing only one quote (sometimes even none). I have compared this to other (existing) Wikiquotes where this doesn't seem to be the case. Therefore, I think it cannot be approved in the current state. I would ask […] community members to focus on improving the quality of the articles. --MF-W 00:27, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Request for multiple writing systems

I wish to add a request for multiple writing systems for a wiki, which has been written in numerous different writing scripts, like kk-wp & Anglo-Saxon wp. Where should the request be made? Thanks! —‍CX Zoom (A/अ/অ) (let's talk|contribs) 23:32, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Please state your request here. -- MF-W 00:35, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
My request is for Pali Wikipedia. Originally en:Pali is supposed to be written in en:Brahmi script, rather than en:Devanagari script. However, when Pali Wikipedia was created en:Brahmi was not yet assigned an Unicode block but it has one today. It no longer needs to be continued solely in Devanagari. Thankfully, Brahmi which was the predecessor of Devanagari has characters that are inherited into Devanagari with the same sounds but different looking characters. The following tables show the equivalent characters of Devanagari & Brahmi scripts: en:Brahmi script#Characteristics, en:Brahmi script#Descendants, en:Brahmic scripts#Comparison, [6], [7]. Pali, like Anglo-Saxon, is rare today, but it is still being used by a considerable population especially as an academic subject, and efforts to promote it continue. —‍CX Zoom (A/अ/অ) (let's talk|contribs) 10:55, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Perhaps, there should also be the ability to toggle to Latin script too. Please see this discussion at the project's main page's talk page from 2008, pi:सम्भासित:पमुख पत्त Pamukha patta#Should this Wikipedia be in Devnagari?. Pali is the language Lord Buddha preached Buddhism in. Usage of Devanagari only, shuts out the community from improving this project, as only a few Buddhists use Devanagari script. Pali's Latin transcription, for which clear rules exist, will help many more people join the project. Thanks! —‍CX Zoom (A/अ/অ) (let's talk|contribs) 16:40, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
User:Amire80: What are your thoughts on this script issue? --MF-W 17:38, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Also, note that most major pages (& special pages like recent changes) on pi WP have titles written in both Devanagari and Latin scripts, which appears to be the only wiki doing this, judged by comparing the Wikidata entries of Main Page. See the other links on the sidebar of the wiki, for more examples. (Note that a globally locked sock of a LTA moved the main page to a nonsense (not meaningful) Devanagari-only title, which I reverted back to the multi-script title to undo their vandalism). Thanks! —‍CX Zoom (A/अ/অ) (let's talk|contribs) 08:36, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Coding a script conversion system is a massive effort. See mw:Writing systems and T17161: A generalized language conversion engine for some starting points. --MF-W 23:30, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Although I'm currently not pursuing this request for the foreseeable future, I still wished to link an old discussion here (Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Pali Character Thai) that I just found. If we ever return to this request, this shall help build a better "background" to the multi-script request. Thanks! —‍CX Zoom (A/अ/অ) (let's talk|contribs) 12:46, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Approval of Nogai Wikipedia (Wp/nog)

Hello, the test Wikipedia of Nogai has many pages and I also try to make new pages. And also I'm translating in wikitranslate. Projects can be approved if they have an continuous activity over at least several months by at least several contributors. - If you want to have a fallback language in the interface, you can request that on translatewiki. --MF-W 08:46, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

trv.wikipedia.org problem

On the wiki, it seems like it contain pages written in four different languages, Seediq Tgdaya, Seediq Toda, Seediq Truku, and Truku, and articles in different languages are being placed inside different categories in the same wiki. According to explanation at Wikimedia Taiwan/IncuWPTA, it seems like the situation is due to same ISO language code being assigned to multiple language families, and thus they have to share a same Wikipedia.

Is there any better methods than using Wikipedia Category to contain and separate work of different languages there? C933103 (talk) 06:26, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Languages must be sufficiently unique so that they "could not coexist on a more general wiki. In most cases, this excludes regional dialects and different written forms of the same language." (LPP). The "languages" you mention are dialected e.g. according to en:Seediq_language#Subdivisions. In some cases, it is advisable to obtain separate ISO codes if there are really different languages. However, this is mainly something the contributors of the wiki itself should discuss. -- MF-W 14:21, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

I'm here by requesting approval, for Wikinews Setswana , I will translate more information to Setswana soon. Thank YouRebel Agent (talk) 17:33, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

You have made the first edit ever there. Congratulations to that! For approval of a new separate wiki however, there needs to be a constant activity throughout at least several months by at least several users. --MF-W 21:23, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

Proposal for approval of Nias Wikibooks

Hello, we have submitted the proposal for Nias Wikibooks approval at Requests for new languages/Wikibooks_Nias#Proposal. After working on Wiktionary and Wikipedia we realised that having Wikibooks is essential to Nias Wikipedia (we describe the context of this in the proposal). We are grateful to the language committee, if you have time to look at our proposal. Thank you in advance. Slaia (talk) 14:41, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

Dear Slaia, good to see you. First of all, thank you for your great effort. For your proposal to be approved on langcom, in addition to having enough content, you need to have a sufficient editor community. But there are few editors who constantly edit on Wb/nia. The sustainability of a project is important for it to be well maintained. I believe that if this condition can be satisfied, it will be decisive for your proposal to be approved. Thank you! --Sotiale (talk) 10:54, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I hope to convince fellow contributors of writing on Wikibooks instead of putting everything on Wikipedia (one of the issues we describe in the proposal). The second issue mentioned was that the majority of our community members are not tech savvy enough to write in Wiki (besides that they only have smartphones instead of PC). For example there are two other community members who have written a lot, but not directly in wikibooks. They shared their writing in grup, to be discussed and then someone from three active writers would put the contents on Wikibooks.
But no problem, I will try again to make them aware of this, so that we could have a sufficient editors. Thanks. Slaia (talk) 10:58, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Approval of Assamese Wikiquote (Wq/as)

Hello. I, on behalf of Assamese Wikiquote Community, would like to inform you that Assamese Wikiquote (Wq/as) project should get its own domain now as all the required criteria have been fulfilled. The project has been active enough since August 2021. At least five contributors are active each month. As of now, there are 390+ articles in the test wiki. Besides, we are trying to improve the quality of the pages better than before. Therefore, I request you to approve the creation of the site for Assamese Wikiquote project. I hope you will pay heed to our request and provide us with an affirmative response.

Best regards,

Hi. I appreciate your continued efforts. As far as I remember, your project was discussed on langcom for approval, but it was pointed out that the content was short or consisted of one line. If you could explain what changes or supplements have been made in this regard, I will use them as a basis for discussion again. Thank you! --Sotiale (talk) 10:58, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello. There was an opinion as to whether the current Wt/gor lacked the number of headings. I think that's good enough in terms of activity, but I agree with the opinion that the number of headings should be higher than it currently is. Approval of Wq/bcl and Wq/tl

Hi LangCom, this is to seek for approval of the 2 incubator projects. Wq/tl was active for 6 months now and edited by 4-9 editors at most. Also, Wq/bcl is active for 6 months, and was largely edited by June 2022. Thank you very much. Kunokuno (talk) 02:58, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Kunokuno. I took a quick look at the two projects you suggested, and I am positive about their activities and sustainability. After further review, I plan to discuss their approval on langcom. Approval of Wikibooks Shan (wb/shn)

Hello! The Shan Wikibooks project is active nearly a year with the sufficient activities. Therefore, may I request the LangCom to review the project for the final approval? Thank you! NinjaStrikers «» 16:51, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello. I had a look at the content. Of ca. 440 pages, more than 80% are of a single "book", namely "Wikijunior" and often only contain one picture and very little text (examples: here or here or incubator:Wb/shn/Wikijunior:သီ. The other two projects/books also don't seem to have a lot of content. So I don't think the project is ready for approval. --MF-W 11:40, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

Approval of Wp/sdc

Ladies / Gentlemen, I am one of the users who have been trying a number of months to make the Wikipedia in the Sassaresu language (Wp/sdc/ [9] - a variant of the old and respectable Sardinian language) come out of the Incubator. And right, now where we have reached and surpassed the 1,000 pages (1,206 - see: [10] ) and are ready to claim an honorable place for Sassarese, among the regional Wikipedias of Europe. Due to recent editing, Wikipedia in linga sassaresa is now well developed. I thus propose for the Committee to approve its coming out of the Incubator. Please review the project for final approval. Thanks. Sincerely yours, --Sirmio Cabinigre 12:37, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Interference occurs between WP/sro (Campidanese) and WP/sdc (Sassarese) using the same language, because the Campidanese cannot be enabled. I believe that to solve the problem it is necessary to quickly get the Sassarese from Incubator. Sincerely--Sirmio Cabinigre 12:34, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

  • Though not being, unfortunately, a native speaker of Sassarese, I learn it, which means I can speak and write it a bit. Actually not that bad, pretty well - so I was told at least several times. :) There are between 90.000 and 160.000 native speakers of this Sardo-Corsican transitional language. I am sure that as soon as the real Sassarese Wikipedia opens there will be more authors and contributors finding their way to it. It is only little known and visible as Incubator Wiki, I suppose.

Request for approval of Bengali Wikiquote (Wq/bn)

Hello, there is already an active community for Bengali Wikiquote. And it has more than 300 main namespace pages, of which more than 100 pages cannot be called short or incomplete. We are also working to complete the rest of the pages. It has been active since last eight months. Hope it will be more active once it gets its own domain. Approval of Manchu Wikipedia

Hello, the Manchu test Wikipedia has many Users in this months and also many pages. Can it be Approved? TayfunEt. (talk) 06:00, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

There are users doing socking in that project, so we need to look closely at it. This may be the user, not your speaker, so it's not your fault. It's hard right now, but later when I have time, I'll review its activity and propose to langcom for approval if the conditions are met. --Sotiale (talk) 01:08, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
Hi. Looking at the active users of this project, July had 3 valid users, but from April to June there was none. The rest are blocked users or their socks. This means that the community is not sufficiently formed. Approval requires active users to be considered a community of editors, and long enough to be active. --Sotiale (talk) 12:23, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

@Kunokuno and Daphpb: Hello. On behalf of langcom, I will send a request to the Phabricator to create bclwikiquote. Please check that the settings on this page are correct. For example, the project discussion namespace in bclwiki is "Olay sa Wikipedia", but the link says "Ulay sa Wikisambit". Check if Olay and Ulay are used properly and there is no problem. --Sotiale (talk) 12:07, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
Hi Sotiale, that is correct. We have updated some translations on translate.wiki and we opted to use the Ulay instead of Olay. Although both are correct, the orthography manual that we currently use in developing the project would prefer the U instead of O. Kunokuno (talk) 12:36, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

@Sotiale: Hi, I've just checked the settings and compared it with the Tagalog Wikipedia for uniformity. The settings are fine but I will also follow up with the Wq/tl editors for their approval. If there are no further comments from them then it is already set as final. Thank you! Kunokuno (talk) 13:29, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

What is the official opening date of a linguistic edition ?

I will ask my question for the Sorani but my question is generic.

If I look this article Sorani Kurdish Wikipedia, the official date is 12 August 2009 and the reference page is [13].

In the french article Wikipédia en sorani the date is 13 August 2009 and the reference page is [14].

Il I consult the page [15] the date indicate 14 November 2010. But I suppose it is only the date of the comment.

Can you help to find the good date ?

Have you a page where all the dates of the linguistic editions are listed (included the incubator) ? Berdea (talk) 11:55, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi. I think it depends on how you define "opening date". In general, this can be thought of when the wiki is just created and accessible, or it can be thought of when the import is complete; access became possible on August 12 2009, and the import was completed on August 13 2009. So, in a sense, both expressions are correct. It's probably just a matter of what you focus on. --Sotiale (talk) 12:40, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer. Anyway, I'm looking the page where the different opening dates are put. Do you know for instance where I can find the official opening date for the Northern Sotho Wikipedia ? --Berdea (talk) 14:59, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
Do you think that the date mentioned here, 29 october 2011, is the official date ? --Berdea (talk) 15:13, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
There is no "offical date" defined by anyone. But incubator:I:SCL lists the days when the wikis were created. They usually became "usable" after the pages from Incubator were imported on the same day or some days later, but the exact times of that are not recorded. --MF-W 17:43, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
This page Incubator:Site creation log is very interesting, thanks. The only problem is that this page begin 30 September 2006. For instance I have a doute for the Sundanese Wikipedia, if I look here the date is october 2003 bus if I look Wikipedia en sundanés the date is 15 marzo 2004, somebody can help me to find the good date ? --Berdea (talk) 19:54, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
It's no different from what I mentioned earlier. 2003 is the year the website became accessible, and the next is probably the date the editing started. --Sotiale (talk) 11:49, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Approval Request for Angika Wikipedia (Wp/anp)

Ladies / Gentlemen, I am one of the users who have been trying a number of months to make the Wikipedia in the Angika language (a variant of the old and respectable Sanskrit language) come out of the Incubator. And right now where we have reached and surpassed the 2,000 pages (2,679 - see: [16]) and are ready to claim an honorable place for Angika, among the regional Wikipedias of India. Thanks. Sincerely yours, Propriyam! (talk) 08:00, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi Propriyam. Approval for your test project is under discussion! In the process, it was pointed out that there were some pages that were virtually empty as follows;

I am sure that if your supplements can be made to these pages, your project will be approved smoothly. I hope that you will be able to supplement these pages during the approval process. --Sotiale (talk) 14:06, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

Sir, I supplemented these 6 pages with standard information, and to be very honestly still supplementing few other empty pages that was first created in 2015. I hope that this scenario will not affect the project of 'Angika Wikipedia' in future. Sincerely yours Propriyam! (talk) 06:15, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
@Propriyam!: Thank you for your efforts! Yes, as you know, some pages created in 2015 have only headings and categories like above. Can your community work together to make up for this? I'm sure the approval will go ahead if this issue is resolved; I haven't found any other issues with Wp/anp. May I check again on September 18 and submit comments to langcom? In the meantime, langcom will find experts for the verification process for approval and prepare for the next process. Please supplement as many pages as possible. --Sotiale (talk) 03:12, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Yes Sir, Our community will work together to make up for this situation. As I said earlier we are doing our best for supplementing those pages as much as possible, if those empty pages, will not affect the process then of course you can check again on September 18 for the verification process. Hello! Thank you for your efforts. Wp/guw was created in March of this year, and now Wt/guw is about to be created, so this will be reviewed again after wikt is created. There are currently 336 pages, so I expect more content to be added than you currently have. --Sotiale (talk) 09:05, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Samatics. late reply. Recently, several opinions have been made about the approval of Wikiquote, which is being discussed. While this is going on, please add more content to the project and create new pages. Perhaps guwwiki and guwwiktionary already exist, so it will take some effort to maintain them and create new ones. --Sotiale (talk) 02:58, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
@Sotiale, I think our project is a strong candidate for approval. We have maintained and increased our activities in the last month and more contents have been added. Any luck on approval this time? Thanks!-- Samatics (talk) 04:40, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Montenegrin Wiki 5

Hello! Why can't you approve Montenegrin Wikipedia? Montenegrin is a language of a real nation and NATO member state. Пан Хаунд (talk) 14:11, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Perhaps if you look at several of the previous discussions, you will find that they are irrelevant to the reasons you have given. The Wikimedia project is language based, not country or nation based. And that language must be sufficiently distinct from other languages. Perhaps this is a summary of a previous discussion. See the discussion for details. --Sotiale (talk) 11:43, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
Then for what reason it's still on hold? Peoples are still lacking enough knowledges to judge if it's sufficiently distinct from Serbo-Croatian (or, as a macrolanguage, one of its other member languages Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian)? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 23:02, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
As you know, summary and decision are not the same. --Sotiale (talk) 08:11, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
But where's the "summary" you referred to? By Ctrl+F searching this word, I only find two same-word sentences:

The en:Neo language

Hello. I would like to start the test Wikipedia in Neo (constructed language) in the WM Incubator but the error is appearing when I try to start any page with the prefix 'Wp/neu/'. As I see, the constructed languages aren't accepted for creation by WM Incubator anymore without a special permission (?). What are my first steps in order to start any contribution to the test Wikipedia in Neo? Should I create the request for a new language first? Or better to try Incubator Plus beforehand? I could prove that the language is still in use after its creator's death - I admit that the degree of its usage is quite modest but not absent as it may be expected. Wolverène (talk) 09:01, 26 September 2022 (UTC)

You will be able to find some clues in the LPP;

If the proposal is for an artificial language such as Esperanto, it must have a reasonable degree of recognition as determined by discussion. (Some recognition criteria include, but are not limited to: independently proved number of speakers, use as an auxiliary language outside of online communities created solely for the purpose, usage outside of Wikimedia, publication of works in the language for general sale.)

This will have to be sufficiently demonstrated by discussion through the new language request. --Sotiale (talk) 11:40, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

@Wolverène: So as a member responded here, why not just create a request now? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 00:01, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
If you can't prove that the language is widely used enough, don't let someone else do the difficult process. It is clear that it takes effort to prove it. --Sotiale (talk) 08:05, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for response. I thought about the situation, I decided to start the Incubator Plus project first, in order to have a ready language material, and I want to get some time to find more information on speakers. My own estimates are around 10-15 fluent speakers, but it's still my assumption. --Wolverène (talk) 08:28, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, I'm taking part in the discussion of Requests for new languages/Wikisource Old Tupi and I have a question: how to deal with bilingual texts when developing a new Wikisource? Only focus in the target language (in this case, Old Tupi) or is best to use everything? Historically, the texts in this language are bilingual. There's anyway to automatically move indexes from the Portuguese Wikisource into the Multilingual to develop this project? Erick Soares3 (talk) 11:29, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

Request for approval of Wikivoyage Indonesian

Hello, i would like to request for the approval of Indonesian Wikivoyage. There are almost 200 million speakers, writers, or signers of Indonesian language. I hope Indonesian visitors can contribute Wikivoyage with local language, also presenting Indonesian culture to the world. Currently, 30+ people who supporting the project. With the release of Wikivoyage Indonesian, it could also ignite other Wikivoyage project of Indonesian local languages. Thanks. Veracious (talk) 15:52, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

@Veracious: Hi! I am impressed by the amount of content in the Indonesian Wikivoyage on Incubator, however in the last few months there are several months where only you have been active. We would like to see an active community with several contributors for a few months before we approve a wiki, to know that it has a sustainable community. Don't let this detract from your efforts, you've done a great job so far, but try to get more community members involved as well. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 11:28, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
@Jon Harald Søby Does category and template actually counted as content? Veracious (talk) 07:03, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
@Veracious: Having a well-developed category and template system according to the needs of the wiki is a major plus, it shows that the contributors understand the system and how the project should be structured. But we are not so focused on the amount of content, but rather the number of active contributors and the "staying power" of that communtiy, i.e. that people keep editing over a prolonged amount of time. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 11:13, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
@Jon Harald Søby Hmm, what about modules? Veracious (talk) 06:00, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
@Veracious: Same answer, basically. If you need modules, use modules – but it's not a requirement or something we look for specifically when looking to approve a test wiki. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 23:29, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Request for approval of Sylheti Wikipedia (Wp/syl)

Hi, I would like to request the approval of Sylheti Wikipedia

  1. Current test project at the Incubator and Main Page
  2. Continuing effort to translate the MediaWiki interface into the Sylheti language

Special request: Sylheti Wikipedia is now in good shape in the Incubator. Bringing it into the subdomain (syl.wikipedia.org) will encourage the wider community to participate actively. More users will take it seriously. It will boost the morale of the voluntary editors to participate in other projects of this language.

ꠢꠣꠍꠘ ꠞꠣꠎꠣ (talk) 15:11, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your efforts. I haven't looked into it in detail, but what I can see right away is that the project activity is not continuous and there are few steady editors. It is very important that the wiki is not left unattended after creation. Therefore, maintaining steady editors and community is considered important. I would like to encourage you to have more editors and long term editors. --Sotiale (talk) 12:29, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

How to deal with changes in ISO 639 codes?

I recently came about two situations where ISO 639 codes developed:

  1. The ISO 639-1 code sh for en:Serbo-Croatian is deprecated/withdrawn. Instead the ISO 639-3 macro language code hbs is now used for Serbo-Croatian.
  2. The naming of the ISO 639-3 code arc was disambiguated from en:Aramaic to Imperial Aramaic/Official Aramaic.

What is the policy to deal with such changes concerning the Wikimedia projects that use such language codes? E.g.

  1. Should https://sh.wikipedia.org/ be moved/renamed to https://hbs.wikipedia.org/?
  2. Should the content of https://arc.wikipedia.org/ be focused on Imperial Aramaic and other languages of the language family get their own Wikipedia? Like e.g. https://cld.wikipedia.org/ for cld. Or in this particular case should https://arc.wikipedia.org/ be closed since it’s for an ancient language?

Thanks for any insights! S.K. (talk) 06:53, 10 December 2022 (UTC)

As long as renaming wikis (URL-wise) remains impossible, the question is moot. Test-projects on Incubator use current codes (e.g. syc instead of arc; Wy/hbs), though exceptions might exist. --MF-W 23:06, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback. But renaming was just one idea how to deal with it. If that’s currently technically not feasible one could try different approaches:
  1. Implement the capability to rename
  2. One could
    • create a new language with the correct code
    • do an import from the old code like it’s done from the incubator to the "official" project
    • close the no longer valid language code
There might be other approaches like keeping the "wrong" URL but internally using the correct code (sounds a bit like a hack), etc.
The point behind the question is that with Wikimedia using the "wrong" code, over time we might run into problems with other software that relies on the correct code like browsers, search engines, screen readers, … that adapt their behavior based on the language code according to RFC 5646. That might not be a short term issue but become one over time. S.K. (talk) 04:32, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
On this note, also the page Special language codes might be interesting for you. -- MF-W 11:51, 11 December 2022 (UTC)

@Bennylin: I tried to create a ticket on phab, but there are a few things to check. ex) Project name =/= Project namespace? No specific logo? I would appreciate it if you could check it by 25 December. --Sotiale (talk) 01:12, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
I reckon there's no specific logo as of now. We can use File:Wiktionary-logo-id.svg for the site, until they come up with their own design. The Project name could be "Wiktionary". I hope these small things doesn't hinder the site creation.
In the future, I propose those question are asked in the "settings table", and not last minute like this. These process should have been routine right now. Bennylin 16:02, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
All these things are being asked in the table. The logo should be localized from the start, and the community of the project itself also should be clear about which (translation of the) name they want to use. Clarifying these questions doesn't hinder site creation, it makes it possible. --MF-W 21:43, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Earnest and Sincere Request for kind Approval of Angika Wikipedia (Wp/anp)

Hello ! This is sincere and earnest request to approve Angika Wikipedia for launching of its full fledged version. The User Community of Angika Wikipedia in incubator have been very actively contributing since long back. Launching of Full Version of Angika Wikipedia is essential in order to utilize full potential of its active community members. With the launch of full fledged version of Angika Wikipedia more user/editor will be able to contribute in to it which will pave further development of this Wikipedia . There are 173 editors which have been involved in creating approximately 2690 pages. Out of these 173 editors, 28 editors are very active. Altogether 9 editors have contributed more than 100 edits. Three editors have contributed in thousands. Besides all basic article pages are available in the Angika Wikipedia. 100% of the most-used interface messages have been localized into Angika. 100% of the message texts of Wikimedia Mobile Interface have been localized in Angika language. Thanks & Regards. Angpradesh (talk) 10:25, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi. Wp/anp is in the verification phase, and once this phase is over, it will enter the final process for approval. So your community's job is to supplement existing pages while continuing to contribute. Thank you! --Sotiale (talk) 11:35, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi Sotiale ! Kindly update the status. Thanks. Angpradesh (talk) 08:50, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
I requested an answer but have not yet received. I'll ask again. Currently, the process of creating a new wiki is temporarily paused(not on langcom, but on the technical side), so please check various items including wiki settings on the proprosal page in the meantime. --Sotiale (talk) 00:50, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi Sotiale ! I couldn't get it. Could you please elaborate it. Whom did you request answer ? What is proprosal (?) page ? Thanks. Angpradesh (talk) 03:42, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
I am so sorry. I also don't know of any updates so I can't give a specific answer. The proposal page is Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Angika, please discuss whether all the contents in the table here are correct, and it is recommended to create your logo in advance. --Sotiale (talk) 03:51, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
