Meta:Quant a Meta
Benvingut a "Wikimedia Meta-Wiki" (Sovintment acortat com "Meta-Wiki" o simplement "Meta"), és un wiki auxiliar per coordinar els projectes de Wikimedia.
Propòsit
El Meta té tres funcions diferents estretament relacionades però que a sovint involucren diferents conjunts d'usuaris.
- Discussió i formulació dels projectes de Wikimedia, en particular discussions sobre polítiques pertinents a projectes transversals com llicències de contingut obert. El principal lloc de discussió és el fòrum Wikimedia. Algunes discussions d'alt nivell, mantingudes principalment al 2009, han estat traslladades al Wiki d'estrategia.
- Un lloc per organitzar i preparar continguts, i tractar aspectes de la coordinació multilingüe.
- Un fòrum per als assajos personals sobre els projectes de Wikimedia (no necessàriament NPOV).

El Meta no és un lloc per a articles incorregibles d'altes Viquipèdies, ni un hostatge per assajos personals de tot tipus. Comunitat
It has often been discussed whether Meta has a community. What's sure is that it doesn't have a community of its own, separate from the communities of the Wikimedia projects: as someone said, «a meta-project—existing for and about the other Wikimedia wikis, not as a content project to itself—a community of communities, rather than its own little island community».
This also means that many discussions, processes and other activities happen on Meta, with different participants and people in charge (if any)—for instance, among many, some Wikimedia committees, the stewards, the WMF staff for grants—: none of them, and all of them, is Meta. Meta is the space and the tool for their participants to achieve their objectives, not an actor in them; and even less a power over them.
Strictly speaking, however, there is a community specific to Meta: it's a loose group of people regularly active in some or many such activities (especially as "gardeners"), who care about Meta serving the purpose above, and who are more likely to intervene to ensure it does.
"Metawikian" is a term also sometimes used, to indicate a member of the specific "Meta community", that is the community of Meta regulars who are more often active on Meta, for instance as contributors to its content pages or as facilitators of other discussions and processes.
Orígens
Primerament creat amb el nom "Meta-Wikipedia" en Novembre del 2001, originalment enfocada cap a la Viquipèdia anglesa, el Meta, des de les seues actualitzacions, ha esdevingut un fòrum multilingüe per a totes les comumitats Wikimedia.
