Request for help from Subbu (Parsing Team) edit

Hi there, ambassador! Subbu and his team would like to encourage a few big wikis to make a planned technical change slightly ahead of time, like the German and the Italian Wikipedia plus 170 other wikis already did last month. He'd appreciate if his message could be translated, before he posts it on the local village pump. (Once he does so, it would of course also be nice if you could keep an eye on the thread, should a conversation happen locally that requires his intervention and/or make sure that the message reaches the right people, but it's not a big deal if you can't!) He'll likely post there on Monday 15, and he'll just use the English version if a translation isn't available. Thanks in advance for your attention and help, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 10:24, 10 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Stryn, hope you recall our meeting in Esino in 2016.

This has a reference to the deletion of one of earliest post on Meta (link) The stuff was deleted because it was considered to be "Off-topic". I request you to please provide the text, either thru Wiki-mail or as section on my talk page just for my record. Best. --Muzammil (talk) 07:10, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Done, but please don't put it back on Meta-Wiki as it's clearly out of the scope. Stryn (talk) 07:57, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

"User page should be used to talk about yourself. It should never be used for personal attacks" as other user wrote in the deletion summary. Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Comment about steward edit

Hi Stryn, I wanted to comment about Masti's action here but you cancelled my comment. You wrote that the confirmation vote start on 8 February. Yet, with this comment I only wanted to get a comment from Masti. Depending on his comment, I will decide for my vote. When am I supposed to ask questions? Pamputt (talk) 09:46, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, the "comments" section is to either give support for their stewarship or to oppose it. And that will start on 8 February. If you have questions for stewards you should better ask on their talk page. Stryn (talk) 09:50, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi, ok I understand. Too late for now but I think there should be a public discussion in order the other voters are aware about their vote. As I wrote, depending on the answer that is given, it could change my vote. So as far as I understand your reply, the talk page is place for that, right? Pamputt (talk) 17:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
I actually meant the user talk page where you can ask the question. But the other choice is to vote neutral in the confirmations and then raise your question and change your opinion from neutral after possible answer. Stryn (talk) 17:31, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

You missed a sock edit

Hi there. Thanks for the quick response to my request for Locking the latest ROXELANA22 socks. He's been at this Cross-wiki vandalism for over a decade now. You missed one account though, BaalRadar (talk • contribs • block • xwiki-contribs • xwiki-date (alt) • CA • ST • lwcheckuser). Can you please lock that account as well? The reason I'm asking is because ROXELANA22 is known for "resurrecting" his blocked accounts on other Wikipedia sites following an indef block on one project (usually the English Wikipedia); recently, he has used this loophole to attack my Commons talk page. Ready for translation: Editing News #1—2018 edit

Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the upcoming issue of the multilingual newsletter for the visual editor, which will be widely delivered when it's end of Friday in Central Europe. Thanks in advance for your help with this: getting to interact with fellows so skilled like the translators are is among my favorite things about my job :) Best, Elitre (WMF) 10:29, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

PS: Here are some instructions. Please go to the translation page: your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've selected it, you'll see the document in English side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or modify existing ones. Please let us know about difficulties you experience with the translation memory system.

Looks like it's all reverted there by few users. I don't know anything else than use the [rollback] button. Maybe there are scripts too, but I have not used them. علاء: did you use some script to revert the edits, or do you know who is that vandal? Stryn (talk) 09:10, 5 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Elitre (WMF) and Stryn: Yes, I'm using Smart rollback, today I revert around 6,000 vandal edits by this script, and before few days I revert also around 2,000 edits to the same vandal but by another account. Harder anti-vandalism action required edit

Hi, I see you have protected the Wikipedia:Project Tiger Editathon 2018 . But it does not seems sufficient. Instead new accounts are being made just for vandalism. Therefore, I propose protecting the page harder and setting it to Administrator level protection after doing one final check on the page. I am not an admin, which means I can't protect it, nor I will be able to edit it after protecting. That is why I am asking you. Thank you (in advance and for your work).--Navinsingh133 (talk) 08:16, 24 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Help edit

Hello. First of all, sorry if the sentences written by me in English are not very coherent. It's because I'm using an automatic translator! I came across an improper use of that user's PU and tried to propose deletion, however I'm being blocked by an edit filter. As I am a more active editor of the Lusophone Wikipedia, I do not quite understand how things work here. On these days I will be monitoring the recent changes, which is the activity that I like to do most! How can I resolve this issue with filters? -Editor D.S (talk) 00:12, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

No idea. It's set that you can't edit user pages of other users. These guys here have set it and know how to modify it to allow setting "delete" template: Meta:Requests_for_help_from_a_sysop_or_bureaucrat#Notice_to_administrators_—_consideration_of_application_of_autopatrol_right. Hi Stryn, thank for the temporary flag. I've just a couple of questions about your comments…

Hi, well, it's just a general message that comes with the template that I added. It just means that interface messages should always be translated on translatewiki.net, not locally on Wikipedia. And that free files should be uploaded on Commons, not on local Wikipedia. Stryn (talk) 16:47, 27 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Stryn, I see you are active on the wiki. Aaron Green may be sleeping now in their home country, and I do not know if a steward or administrator can best help me in my regard. Ah, so you are using a VPN that is blocked on English Wikipedia. Then I can't help you. You should contact the local administrators on English Wikipedia. Only they can give you a local IP block exempt. Global exempt won't work if there's a local block. Stryn (talk) 19:20, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about the signature situation. I hope I will perform the signature correctly. How can I make a contact to a local administrator because I am not able to edit on the Wikipedia? --Jim Doen (talk) 19:36, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

You should wait that some admin replies on your UTRS message. Stryn (talk) 19:40, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

UTRS is form for talking to local administrators? --Jim Doen (talk) 19:42, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yes it is. I have an access to UTRS as a steward and I can see your appeal is waiting for response there. Just wait that they answer to you. Stryn (talk) 19:44, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Okay thank you. The matter of problem is not waiting but I am not confident in that I have made a ticket filing the correct way many of the time. Like before I made a ticket on my user page but an administrator said that it is better on UTRS. And, I have read on steward and administrator, but I do not know which type of Wikimedia representative to ask for help in certain situations that arise. I hope you can understand this confusion in this matter. --Jim Doen (talk) 19:47, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Welcome. And I understand that it's not clear for new users who to contact. Usually stewards can help on small wikis with no active administrators and cross-wiki issues, like locking vandals that are active on many wikis. Stryn (talk) 19:49, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Okay who can I come to ask if I am not sure? Maybe I can come to seek your direction in these matters? Also, I am not clear what is unblock or unlock because system told me make an unblock request but on my talk page one user told me to ask for help with unlock not unblock. --Jim Doen (talk) 19:51, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Locks are global blocks performed by stewards. Admins can only set local blocks. User on your talk page for some reason said "unlock" when he/she probably meant "unblock". Stryn (talk) 19:55, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Okay now the confusion is more clear. I will now leave you to your other duties, and I am really thankful to you again for your active guidance in these matters. --Jim Doen (talk) 19:59, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Stryn also how do other people know when I give a message to their message on my talk page? --Jim Doen (talk) 20:16, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unlock the name edit

Hello. I ask you as an administrator to help unlock the name of the artist and a pseudonym for writing an article. Please help, be so kind. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dmitrii JM (talk)

I don't understand anything about your message, please rephrase. Stryn (talk) 17:45, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I ask you to help remove the name and pseudonym of the artist from the blacklist, please help.Dmitrii JM (talk)

What artist and why should I do it? There's usually a good reason for blaclisted words. Stryn (talk) 17:51, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

But this artist is not a terrorist to bring him there, his works are known on the Internet, he portrays saints and not only, he has cosmic themes, he does not create anything forbidden. Article for example about him has the right to exist, at least for a while, as well as articles about other people. If it's not hard for you, then help get him out of there. His name is Alexander. Dmitrii JM (talk)

Aha, very helpful. Add your message to WM:RFH if you need help. Stryn (talk) 18:00, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

And what is the difference between this request to you from that? Dmitrii JM (talk)

Next steps for the wish “confirmation prompt for the rollback link” edit

Hello, a while ago you participated in a feedback round about a proposal how accidental clicks on the rollback link could be avoided. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and ideas!
Looking at the feedback and the rollback situation in different wikis, the development team decided how to approach this wish: As a default, most wikis won’t have a confirmation. But users who wish to have one, can enable it in their preferences, which will add a confirmation prompt to the rollback link on the diff page and on the list pages. The prompt won’t be a pop-up, but an inline prompt like for the thanks confirmation. You can read more about the planned solution and what influenced this decision on the project page. -- Best, Johanna Strodt (WMDE) (talk) 09:41, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Latest message for Collaboration team newsletter; Growth team's newsletter invite edit

Hello

Sorry to use English if that's not your favorite language.

You are receiving this message because you were reading the Collaboration team newsletter.

The Collaboration team doesn't longer exists. That team was working on building features that encourage collaboration. This is the latest message for that newsletter.

The Growth Team, formed in July 2018, supports some former Collaboration projects. The Growth Team's main objective is to ease new editors' first steps on wikis, through software changes. You can discover all objectives and missions of the Growth team on its page.

If you wish to be informed about Growth team's updates about easing new users first steps, you can subscribe to the new list to get updates. The first message from Growth –with a call for feedback on a new project– will be posted in a few days!

If you have questions or you want to share experiences made on your wiki about new users' first steps, please post them on the team talk page, in any language.

As you required, I've come back on meta to communicate with you; as I told you, there's a high risk that I'll be blocked again. If you can't help me with my block, at least tell me this, please: whatever the reason I was blocked, why such a great urgency to block me, the one just reporting a "Long-term abuse" case, while after over a month nobody has even checked the already blocked proxies to verify possible socks (not "block" them, just "check" if any) related to a proven "Long-term abuse" case? I'm not really worried about my blocked account, I'd just like a steward to check my information about that case, that is to verify whether or not "Fulgencio Kokomeci" and "MbretiBasha" are socks of the long-term abuser who created also the globally blocked socks "Myeuurn" and "Baka Líte" using a globally blocked proxy. Please, at least help me with this. Gheorghiossan (talk) 21:22, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Help Request regarding collateral damage. edit

It appears that I am now unable to edit Wikipedia due to being caught in a Rangeblock targeting someone else. I have been editing Wikipedia for years, long enough to know that there is little chance that the block will be lifted before its full duration has passed. However, I am also blocked from account creation. I've never previously felt the need to create an account, but presently even that approach is unavailable to me. I feel I have something to offer the community, and can provide a history of successful edits (by IP address) if requested.

I included the following because I was requested to.

AdvancedSearch -ilmoituksen suomennoksen katsauspyyntö edit

WMDE-kollegani ovat pyytäneet minua auttamaan kääntää tulevaa ilmoitusta Advanced Search -laajennuksesta. Yritykseni tulos on User:Johanna_Strodt_(WMDE)/Advanced_Search_Deployment_everywhere/fi.

User script to access other watchlists edit

Hi Stryn,

If you remember, you participated in the 2019 Community Wishlist Survey, including the discussion for reviving "Crosswatch" to allow for cross-wiki watchlists (Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Watchlists/Revive Crosswatch tool).

I sent you this MassMessage because I wanted to let you know that I have made a user script to make accessing your watchlists on different wikis easier, since for now that wishlist item has not been actioned.

The way it works is that, on any wiki, when you look at your watchlist, there is a button labeled "CA" that takes you to the CentralAuth page for you. There, when looking at your own information, each link to a wiki ("meta.wikimedia.org", "www.wikidata.org", "de.wikipedia.org", etc.) is changed so that it links to your watchlist on that wiki.

If you are interested in using it, just add mw.loader.load('//meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:DannyS712/Watchlist.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); to your global javascript page. This imports the code at m:User:DannyS712/Watchlist.js.

If you want to learn more, there is documentation for the script available at w:en:User:DannyS712/Watchlist. If you would like to discuss the script, talk to me at m:User talk:DannyS712.

Thanks, --05:50, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, but I can also include links to watchlists on my user page and open them from there :) Hopefully some day there will be functional global watchlist. Stryn (talk) 17:01, 10 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
