Batak Toba

The activity is good and localization is pretty much done. I propose for bbc to be approved. Tagging: Wirjadisastra. dwf² 02:05, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

It would be good to have a third contributor in this month of January [1]. --MF-W 18:02, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
@MF-Warburg: the localization is done. Wirjadisastra (talk) 13:54, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Peace be upon you
I am a speaker of Batak Toba language and also a test-administrator of Batak Toba Wikipedia.
As a test-administrator, I see that the activity of Batak Toba Wikipedia is good and localization of Batak Toba Wikipedia through the Translatewiki has been finished.
I have just realized that Batak Toba Wikipedia was removed from Featured wikis from being less active ones.
My question is, what are requirements to consider it active or less active?
Boti ma, mauliate godang (English : That is all from me, thank you)
--Gazartashlomo0907 (talk) 14:56, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Note that Incubator:Featured_wiki is not an official evaluation of test-wiki activities. In this case, I removed it from there because it was only the test-wiki with the 43rd most edits in January. --MF-W 16:29, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Approval of Atayal Wikipedia

Good day there! Since Atayal was listed as one of the active languages on incubating wikis, we have been looking forward to make it approved. We've been updating continuously. With recent editing, Atayal Wikipedia (incubator:Wp/tay) is well developed that there's more than 2500 articles. Moreover, in many of them, we can see the quality and quantity have been up to a certain level. We would like to know if we can see Atayal approved soon? Iyumu (talk) 12:20, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi! This looks good, I think we will approve it in the next days. --MF-W 17:52, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Suggestion: Systematic review of small language projects, especially Wikipedia language versions

In light of the recent debacles with Scots and Northern Luri Wikipedias, maybe all projects that have only a handful of active users should be reviewed by a group of linguists to ascertain whether they're actually written in any established or recognizable form of the respective language? Who knows how many Wikipedias there may be where the content is marred by a lack of language knowledge by main contributors (the case of Scots), language purism leading to an "invented" language (the case of Northern Luri), or similar issues? Who really knows the state of, say, the Wikipedias in Vepsian, Komi, Saraiki, or Northern Soto? (These are arbitrary examples - quite possibly they are fine). A systematic review now and then, say, every 10 years could be helpful, I think. See also my article in German-language Wikipedia's Kurier and the related discussion. Gestumblindi (talk) 17:18, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Bonjour @Gestumblindi:, I think talking this issue at SWA talk page might be better? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:22, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
@Liuxinyu970226: Thanks for the pointer, I was not aware of that page - that seems to be basically what I propose here, yes. I see that it was created after the Scots case; the case of Northern Luri has, in my opinion, confirmed the need for a thorough approach in reviewing small language projects. Request for approval of Okinawan Wikipedia

Good day there! Since Okinawan was listed as one of the active languages on incubating wikis, we have been looking forward to make it approved. We've been updating continuously. With recent editing, Okinawan Wikipedia (incubator:Wp/ryu) is well developed. Moreover, in many of them, we can see the quality and quantity have been up to a certain level. We would like to know if we can see Okinawan approved soon? John Smith Ri (talk) 06:30, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello. I do not see any edits from you in Wp/ryu? --MF-W 16:05, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
@MF-W Correct, but I have some connection with potential editors and I just found that it seems to be good enough for Wp/ryu to be approved.--John Smith Ri (talk) 03:08, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
@John Smith Ri: The question is that we need at least 3 active editors to contribute for some months, to which it looks like only one a little active user per a month, this looks far from a potential approval. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 05:48, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Another requirement is that the most important MediaWiki messages are translated into the language. --MF-W 11:05, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Request for rejection of Shanghainese Wikipedia

Questions about requirements of the Wiktionary in Lombard

The Lombard dictionary has more than 500 entries and some help pages. Moreover localization requirements are met. https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wt/lmo

What's still needed for it to be verified as eligible?

What's still needed for final approval?

Every wiki project has not only entry pages, but also pages with namespaces. Will they be created automatically as the Wiktionari is opened or must / can they be created before? Till now I have created some pages with the Wiktionary prefix including the community portal.--Gat lombart (talk) 15:16, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

@Gat lombart: In theory, it's better that you should invite at least two more friends to contribute with you. The catanalysis told me that you're the only active user of the test. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 07:19, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
I have marked the request as eligible. As the user above said, there should be at least several contributors over at least several months for approval. --MF-W 17:01, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
@MF-W: I think there is activity. For example, even Index page recognition statistics are not counted.--Arxivist (talk) 11:05, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Are the criteria for approval met now?--151.20.30.227 21:53, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Request to approve Wikipedia Mandailing

I propose for the Committee to approve Wikipedia Mandailing (btm.wp). The level of contribution in the past year has been quite good, despite some months being on the low side, but there was a Jan 2020 edit-a-thon and public campaigns supported by Wikimedia Indonesia that led to a small but consistent Mandailing contributor base. Tagging Mandailing speakers (Simartampua, Apundung, IHLubis, Santabi sapulu, Ahmad Abadi Rangkuti) and WMID folks (Cahyo and Harditaher). dwf² 18:10, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

@David Wadie Fisher-Freberg: Except IHLubis and Ahmad Abadi Rangkuti, there doesn't seem have enough activitions in the past 3 months, will there have another one active user? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 08:34, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

New Wikipedia suggestion

I want to develop a new Wikipedia for Old Manipuri (language code: omp). Modern Manipuri (language code: mni) Wikipedia already exist. What shall I do? What are the required steps I should follow? Haoreima (talk) 08:52, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

@Haoreima: did you read the main page Language proposal policy? it lists all the requisites. For you case, look in particular at the parts about old languages « The language of the proposal has a sufficient number of fluent users » and « Only Wikisource wikis in ancient or historical languages are accepted ». Wayuunaiki

Hi all,

I want to please ask the members of the committee to have a clear assessment of what is missing to launch two new projects, the Wayuunaiki Wikipedia and the Wayuunaiki Wiktionary. A little background: the wayuunaiki (ISO: guc) language is spoken by at least 400,000 persons in Colombia and Venezuela, but like many indigenous languages, is an oral language and only a few are able to write it down, that is why we in Wikimedia Venezuela and Wikimedia Argentina have been supporting the creation of a community portal to help folks learn to write the language and them to start to contribute on Wikipedia. Wikimedia Colombia is also doing its share of gaining more volunteers to contribute.

We have a few active volunteers like Leonfd1992 (who also translated 100% of the MediaWiki critical messages on Translatewiki), Maor X, Neima Paz and Jintüi.

So, in short, we want to know what we need to assemble the request, we know we need more active volunteers but at least three affiliates are working towards that goal and IMHO it would be far easy to help them contribute to their Wikipedia instead of Incubator, thanks --Oscar_. (talk) 15:12, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi User:Oscar_.! As you say, the translation of the most-used messages, which is a requirement for the first project in a language, are already complete, which is great. Looking at the activity of Wp/guc, there is some activity, but for approval it would be necessary to have a level of activity that is a bit higher, with at least 3 users per month with over 10 edits (i.e. not greyed-out in the table) over the course of several months. In Wt/guc, the activity is even lower. Some of the user you mentioned haven't recently been active, maybe it would be a good idea to encourage them again to contribute? --MF-W 00:16, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks MF-W, I'll spread the word in order to encourage more volunteers for both projects, --Oscar_. (talk) 20:13, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Clerk

It seems like StevenJ81 has not performed any clerical duties for over a year now. Has the Committee considered asking for a Support Associate (WMF staffer) like AffCom? dwf² 05:19, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi. We have not. It's an interesting idea. I will bring it up in a discussion. --MF-W 00:34, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Are the requirements for final approval met now?--Gat lombart (talk) 13:22, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

@Jon Harald Søby: This test project looks very active now, it has 3~5 active contributors in the past 5+ months, ready for approval? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:12, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
How does it come that there's such a high number of IP contributions? Do you know if that is one person or multiple? --MF-W 07:48, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
@MF-Warburg:I think just one person--Gat lombart (talk) 08:08, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Anyway, if we saw the Wp/kdr's datas, we can see only one user is "actively contributed" in the last month, but this was even explained as "a very active community" here. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 00:18, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
I agree that Wp/kdr is not active, but what's the relation to Wt/lmo? --MF-W 12:02, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Local name of lombard language

Now the local name of Lombard language used for interlingual links is "Lumbaart", but "Lombard" would be better since "lumbaart" is written in a ortography that is no longer used. We had already started talking about this on the Wikimedia forum. Nowadays "lombard" is much more used as the two Panlombard ortography use "Lombard". A discussion on traslatewiki was also started where there is consensus among the translators. In addition you can also easily verify through a search on the wikipedia in Lombard language that "lombard" (https://lmo.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Ri%C3%A7erca&limit=500&offset=0&ns0=1&search=Lombard) is extremely more used than "lumbaart" (https://lmo.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=lumbaart&title=Special%3ARi%C3%A7erca&profile=advanced&fulltext=1&ns0=1). It is enough for you to see the number of search results on lombard Wikipedia.

Is it possible to change the local language name?--Gat lombart (talk) 19:45, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Yes, it is. The language names are defined in the MediaWiki core, languages/data/Names.php. You can open a phabricator: task to request it to be changed, with reference to the community discussions about it. --MF-W 23:22, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Gat lombart for opening a discussion and for explaining what usage statistics you had in mind. Indeed this is enough to file a request in Phabricator, although ideally we'd have a reliable third-party source before changing such things in MediaWiki. (For instance, if the lmo.wikipedia has a policy on the expected grammar, ortography and so on, maybe it references some grammar or dictionary books which could be used as source for the name.)
Sadly my books in milanese are 2000 km away (assuming they're still in my grandma's house). Nemo 07:32, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

No idea ([edit: Bashkir is not a Indonesian language, so zero idea. While Gorontalo Wiktionary, I am in touch with the person, and indeed I seemed to remember I promised to help him with the project, but alas, I haven't had the time to do so]). Requests for Thao Wiktionary

Dear,

I've notice that some Thao editors are quite active these days. For the Wikipedia project, they've already have their Incubator to update there. And now it seems they also try to build their Wiktionary at the same time[3]. I am here to request for them to create their Incubator for Wiktionary.

Also, I saw some discussion about Ancient Greek Wikipedia project. And it seems that for now, they cannot get their site. In the case of Thao Wikiproject, also as an "ancient" or like extinct language, is it possible for them to get their site if they still stay active for a few months?

Thank you.Iyumu (talk) 08:57, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi! I also support both Wikipedia and Wiktionary projects of Thao. They are active on Incubator recently. It will be good news for them if they got a chance to request again for Thao Wikipedia.Ripunn (talk) 10:09, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia Edhellen

Ai! Glassen, garo i barf an lam Edhellen (Eglathrin) ISO 639-3: sjn

Hi. Please, define a project for the Sindarin language ISO 639-3: sjn Thank you. --Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 09:05, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Sindarin is a fictional language. Notwithstanding the existence of an ISO 639–3 code, fictional languages are not eligible for projects. Please see Language proposal policy. --Sotiale (talk) 05:35, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
Ok, Houston, we have a question. In that case, I would like to draw your attention to such a problem. Sindarin is worldwide, there are many resources on the Internet devoted to its study, people communicate in it in written and verbal form, and its popularity is only growing. At the same time, there is the Wikipedia-approved Esperanto language and other artificial languages, perhaps even less elaborated than Sindarin. So why aren't these languages subject to the same kind of restrictions? --Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 09:15, 6 June 2021 (UTC)--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 09:15, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
I think the delineation is between "constructed language" ([5] [6] and "fictional language" (3). You can argue it's a constructed language if it fulfill the criteria in Requisites for eligibility #4. But seeing that it's been attempted and denied (incubator:Wp/sjn, Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Sindarin), I think the fate is sealed. Bennylin 13:50, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. I see that the Wikipedia section on Sindarin was closed before the articles were published. It's my personal opinion that we shouldn't cut such an original linguistic project down. It is worthwhile, for starters, to do a little research on the language and translate a few articles, including an article on Sindarin itself. I believe this would allow to fully assess the capabilities of the language, its informativeness, readability, and various other parameters, and then draw conclusions about its relevance within the project and decide whether it is worth keeping or excluding. --Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 14:12, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
At a quick glance, there are zero publications in Sindarin. Note that Esperanto has a monthly magazine on international news, as well as various other periodicals and translations and original works, actively entering publication. As far as I know, the entire vocabulary of Sindarin comes from the limited corpus left by Tolkien, which is by its nature not so complete as a vocabulary of any artificial language designed for modern communication.--Prosfilaes (talk) 04:24, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Profilaes, and thank you for your response. Sindarin has not only a rich vocabulary, but also a mechanism of word formation, which easily eliminates the lack of its "non-modernity", allowing you to give names to modern technology, describing the laws of physics and mathematics, and not to resort to borrowing. Moreover - the mechanism of word formation in Sindarin is so flexible and universal that it allows you to give names to phenomena, events and objects that have no place in objective reality. I will supplement my defense by the assertion that various informational and media materials are also published on Sindarin.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 17:58, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
As someone who has studied the artificial interlinguistics to some extent, I just don't buy it. Every attempt to produce a language with a flexible and universal mechanism of word formation has had troubles with language and reality. German, English, Russian and Esperanto are all pretty flexible about forming words, but instead of repeating some variant of an alcoholic drink served before a meal as an appetizer, Aperitif, apéritif, аперити́в (aperitív), and aperitivo have been borrowed from French into their respective languages. I laugh at the idea of Elsa singing about "My soul is spiraling in frozen objects with non-integral Hausdorff-Besicovitch dimensions all around" instead of "frozen fractals all around".
You make that assertion, but provide no evidence. I know there are books on Sindarin, but that's not the interesting question; the question is, is there material in Sindarin?--Prosfilaes (talk) 23:10, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Interesting point of view, but your message is written as if you are evaluating Sindarin and its capabilities in a biased and subjective way. This is certainly a valuable way of assessing language capabilities, but it puts some strain on the effectiveness of decision-making. "I fae nin osrevia im thencim chelui" (that line from the Elsa song in Sindarin). Osrevia - spiraling, i fae nin - my soul (soul my), thencim chelui - frozen fractals (fractals frozen). Sorry, I don't know this song, so I translated your line. You can translate anything into Sindarin. I think we have the material.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 03:56, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
@Calad-ne-dúath: If you really think that there should have a Sindarin Wikipedia test, here to go. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:59, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
By biased and subjective, I'm forced to conclude you mean "using facts you don't like", as you certainly provide no evidence for your case. Fractal is a word invented by Mandelbrot in 1975, two years after Tolkien died, and the concept was basically invented along with it. So either you're making up words when you translate it as "thencim", or you're not fully translating the concept.
And this is starting to annoy me; if you want a Sindarin encyclopedia, there are several free wiki sites out there, and it's not too hard to run your own wiki on your own website. It feels like it's more important to have a Wikipedia™ than make an encyclopedia for many of these language suggestions.--Prosfilaes (talk) 00:15, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
Please don't be annoyed. If you wish, I will grant your wish and leave Wikipedia where I will not interfere with you personally. However, I believe you greatly underestimate Sindarin. I mentioned above the advanced word-formation mechanism in Sindarin. It allows you to assemble words like a construction set, and you can say anything you want in Sindarin if you want to. Tolkien personally showed this directly in his own books when he named cities, countries, characters, various events and objects.
The word "thencim" is in the plural, its singular is "thancem". "Thanc" - "fractured" and "em" - "image", "fractured image" as in Latin and "image" is not meant as a picture. "Fractured shape" sounds as "thancfan" (singular) or "thencfain" (plural). This word is possible because of an advanced word-formation mechanism, even if Tolkien did not think of such a thing. I may not be providing links to informational material, but I can provide the case. One case is always more effective than a thousand words.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 06:36, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
@Calad-ne-dúath: I boldly reseted incubator:Wp/sjn, so that you may start creating pages by clicking "Create page". --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 00:58, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
OK, thank you. I'm already translating an article about Sindarin. I think this is where the relevant Wikipedia section should start.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 09:26, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
Except a fractal is not a fractured image, but an object with a non-integral Hausdorff-Besicovitch dimension. That's nothing special; learn a little Esperanto or heck, some polysynthetic language. You could use clunky word formation to get the English "They would carry the dead wallaby on their shoulders.", or speak the Tiwi language and get the one word "Pitiwuliyondjirrurlimpirrani".--Prosfilaes (talk) 17:43, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Prosfilaes. It is wonderful to know of your interest in the word "fractal," but I will make one small point. What you say about fractals refers to the definition of their meaning, but we don't call their definition when we talk about them unless we are talking about fractals at the university with a professor. We call one short word based on Latin. The ancient Romans knew nothing about fractals, but we call fractal a word from their language, and that word means "fractured," the etymology of which goes back to Latin.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 11:53, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
The word "fractal" refers to a specific set of objects, not those that are fractured. commons:Fractals is different from commons:Category:Fractures, and while most English speakers don't have a deep understanding of the meaning, they don't conflate "fractal" with "fractured". We use one short word, that's not in Sindarin; like every other language in the world, you can borrow it literally or calque it like you did.--Prosfilaes (talk) 15:07, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

Largest languages without Wikipedias

I was wondering about this, so I looked at w:en:List of languages by total number of speakers. At a quick glance, of the 44 languages on that list, 3 don't have Wikipedias. Nigerian Pidgin (pcm) has an incubator [8], Jin Chinese (cjy) has an incubator [9] and Sudanese Arabic (apd) does not. The reason for all three seems obvious; Nigeria speaks English, Hausa and Igbo, so a Wikipedia based on an unstandardized pidgin isn't gaining much traction. Jin Chinese until the 1980s was considered Mandarin, the Chinese government would like to subsume it under Chinese, and the speakers can probably all function natively in Mandarin/zh. Sudan is a poorer nation with fewer Internet users than Nigeria or China, and Arabic languages are a matter of great fuss, so the lack of an incubator is unsurprising. If I had more time and interest, I might go through w:en:List of languages by number of native speakers, a couple slightly different lists of the 100ish languages.--Prosfilaes (talk) 12:17, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

So I've populated testwiki:Languages by total number of speakers and Wikimedia wikis. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:05, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
It seems odd to write "why Wp/fil On Incubator?" next to an entry for "Filipino(excl. Tagalog)", which is exactly fil (excl. tl). I'm not expressing an opinion on Filipino versus Tagalog, but that list definitely does.--Prosfilaes (talk) 13:16, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

To which forcing you to follow an encyclopedic format would be a disservice; it would prevent various poetry forms, drama, fiction of all sorts, even various forms of non-fiction from being written. Approval of Manchu Wikipedia

Hello. The Manchu Wikipedia looks well. It has been active for nearly one year and with most core messages being translated. Is there any missing requirement for the final approval?--ᠪᡝ (talk) 01:21, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

Fyi, this is still being discussed at their mailing list: [11], no updates for 1.5 months. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 09:18, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Hello. One of our committee members had a question about using both the Latin script and the Manchu script. The translated core messages are in Latin script, and Latin script and Manchu script are used in both headings and contents on incubator. Could you please explain this to us? --Sotiale (talk) 12:51, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
@Sotiale: Actually, user Chulsu463 has proposed a transcription between Manchu script and Latin script here. If the transcription is adopted, I think it is fine to keep the core message in Latin script, and the separate pages in Latin script and Manchu script will likely be combined into one single page. However, if the transcription is hard to manage, I think keeping the pages separately, like Hakka Wikipedia, is the best choice. (Actually I don't know adopting a conversion in Manchu Wiki is hard or not, as the Latin script uses horizontal direction, while the Manchu script is vertical) Additionally, I can convert the core messages back to Manchu script when it is necessary. --ᠪᡝ (talk) 00:56, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

@MF-Warburg: I have seen that you may have some questions about the comments above. Please let me clarify a bit: Yes, our community do want a script converter between Manchu and Latin script, but due to the issue that Manchu script is vertical while Latin script is horizontal, we don't know such converter can really be applied or not as it may have problems when showing some infoboxes or templates while changing the script horizontally and vertically. In addition to the issue that the Latin script is not unified so one letter in traditional script may refer to more than one letters in the Latin script (see my talk page and the discussions for some details), it may have difficulties when launching the script converter (as we don't know how a converter works, we don't know the solution for the above issues, so if you think that the above issues are solvable, please let us know and we will be looking forward to the application of the converter!). Due to the uncertainty of the implementation of the script converter, we have decided to remain the status quo first, and remains some articles as separate pages, like the Hakka wikipedia (we are facing similar script issues in some aspects), in case the converter is not workable. (Sorry if you cannot understand the situation more clearly due to my poor English, but I think that the current situation of using both script seems the best solution for the issue, so I hope this will not become an obstacle to considering the approval of Manchu Wikipedia, Thank you.) --Limfurg (talk) 16:23, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Don't worry, I can understand you well. Thanks for the info! --MF-W 13:06, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi all, and especially @Amire80, Antony D. Green, Maor X, GerardM, Janwo, Jon Harald Søby, Yupik, MF-Warburg, Evertype, Satdeep Gill, Sotiale, and Vito Genovese: there is an RFC open at Start allowing ancient languages concerning the requirements disallowing Wikis for ancient and historic languages.

Some committee members have engaged, but I am not sure everyone has had the chance to do so yet. Nevertheless, there is now a fairly developed, stable and hopefully sensible suggestion which we would like the Committee to look at. --JimKillock (talk) 18:26, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Actually I stopped following the discussion when it became too circular and repetitive. My opinion on this matter is still the same as I expressed there a few months ago.--✍ Janwo Disk./de:wp 02:35, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
@Janwo: Understood. There is no need for further contribution if you don't want to do so there. Howver, there is now a stable proposal for consideration. AIUI LangCom need to make any changes to the policy (the policy is owned by the Committee, not the respondents on Meta). So LangCom needs to consider what is proposed by consensus, and either accept it or reject it, preferably with reasons. Then we can close the RFC.
Like Janwo, I stopped following the "old" discussion at some point. I will however have a look at the "new" state of affairs and try to come up with an appropriate reaction. It might take some time however. --MF-W 12:12, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
Note that that user is requested to change the RFC title, will you both re-follow the RFC once renaming is done? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:57, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
A page move shouldn't require anyone to refollow the page? I don't think any action is required. Feedback on the renaming of the RFC would be helpful however. --JimKillock (talk) 16:52, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Incubator Wp/Sjn problem

Greetings again. I have previously asked here for a section based on the Sindarin language. I am addressing you again due to a couple of problems that prevent me from continuing to work on it. I have prepared a number of software tools to automate the translation of articles in Sindarin, which will allow me to greatly increase the pace of work on the project, but there are two problems:

  1. I cannot translate Wikipedia posts into Sindarin because its language code is listed as unsupported. I translated almost all of the core posts in August, but ran into this problem at the end. This circumstance makes completing the application impossibly difficult.
  2. I cannot add new pages to the project due to the same problem. In turn, this adds another problem, reducing the possible activity of the project.

This whole situation does not look very pretty. Thank you for your attention, I hope for a productive dialogue.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 13:15, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

Good day. I am not sure if this is related to the language type on SIL website, on which it shows the situation of Sindarin language now is constructed. As I know, to see a language eligible or not here on incubator, they usually refer to SIL website. So for now, we have to see that if a "constructed" language can be eligible on wiki here or not. Or that if you think the language now is living, you can go request for the type change on SIL and then back to ask a test wiki site here. iyumu   03:27, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
Sindarin is a constructed language; it is known informally as Elvish, and I have never seen any evidence that it has been used for human communication as humans, even at the marginal level that Klingon has shown. It is purely the language created by an author for a fictional group in his fictional creation.--Prosfilaes (talk) 05:06, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
The first one seems related to translatewiki.net, and should be resolved via that site. For the second, which error message you met when creating subpages of Wp/sjn? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:31, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Liuxinyu970226, and thank you for your attention to the above problem. I'm getting an error:
You are trying to create a page without a valid ISO 639-1 or -3 code. This code either is not valid or does not belong to a language accepted for new Wikimedia projects. If you came here from any other page, please return back and fix the link and then create the correctly named page. If by any chance this is blocking you from creating any page which you think has a valid ISO 639-1 or -3 code or belongs to an accepted language, please let administrators know.
I created an appeal on the support page at translatewiki.net and am waiting for their decision.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 04:59, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Hello, iyumu, and thank you very much for your response. I noticed that some of the previously accepted languages on Wikipedia also have a constructed status on SIL, but they are not prevented from doing so. So, I will wait for your decision, and ask SIL for a change in the status of the language if the act is necessary in principle. I hope for understanding and a happy resolution of the situation.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 04:59, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Good day. Sorry that I am not in the LangCom who usually help the language issues on the Incubator. Only I know that it seems difficult to set a site on wiki for an artificial language. Basically, we are doing knowledge sharing in many different "natural" languages that no matter what language does one born to acquire, s/he can gain knowledge by using his/her first language. As for the artificial languages, the argument might be that are there native speakers who read or learn things in these artificial languages? iyumu   05:14, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Hello, iyumu, thank you for your interest in the topic raised. Yes, there are people who read and learn something using Sindarin. Suilon, iyumu, le hennon an gestolas lin vi i garfad. Sa thand, dha gerfyr Edhellen hanna a gelia ilphen nan Hindarin.--Calad-ne-dúath (talk) 08:34, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Approval of Balinese Wiktionary

Hai, I submit a proposal for Balinese Wiktionary, please review or approve.

Wikisource Bashkir

Please check the Wikisource Bashkir. Now, it tests section has more wikisources than created and approved in 17 other sections-site. The extensions are also translated. Thanks!

p.s. «The number of users that support or oppose the project is irrelevant».--Arxivist (talk) 16:20, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

"The number of users that support or oppose the project is irrelevant" but on the other hand, the number of users that are actively contributing the test project is relevant. By checking automated statistics, it looks like this project is inactive for at least one year, do you have ideas on inviting at least 3 more users to contribute each other? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:59, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
@Liuxinyu970226: Thanks for the answer. But I have to disagree with your argument. As the administrator of the Ukrainian section of Wikisource, I would like to say that activity does not matter on Wikisource. Inactive (1-2 users) Wikisource projects have been around for years. I remember how there were periods and 5-7 months with an activity of 2 people in the Ukrainian section (more than 10 edits) and nothing, the project did not have to be closed.
Moreover, many sections are recognized and have fewer texts than the Bashkir section. Where is the required activity of three people indicated? What are the rules? People even in an incubator state have proven that they can create more articles than recognized sections. Native speakers are a lot. Translated pages are done. The language library is rich. Could you tell me who can help with this issue, since the Committee is not fulfilling its functions? A similar story is with the Georgian section (there are also texts (there are even more than 20+ sections and the language has a history older than English in its modern form). It seems to me, but you do not understand the Wikisource project and its activity and specifics. I can give a guarantee, that if the project is taken out of the incubator, the project will grow up and his activity. All the formal requirements for the committee are fulfilled. --Arxivist (talk) 22:13, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
By the way, the statistics of pages deducted from the index space are not even counted. So where do the additional statistics come from?--Arxivist (talk) 23:03, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Approval of Gungbe Wikipedia (Wp/guw)

Hello! The gungbe wikipedia has been quite active since June with complete localisation, so I think it is time to consider the approval of Gungbe Wikipedia.--Samatics (talk) 05:45, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

I'll investigate it and discuss it on langcom. Thank you. --Sotiale (talk) 05:54, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
@Sotiale. Thank you for your attention to this. Please is there any progress? --Samatics (talk) 04:44, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
It took some time to exclude some abusers from the statistics. And by the way, I've been busy lately too.. It has been found that they edited your incubator wiki, and I'm excluding their edits to check the correct activity. Don't worry, this will not negatively affect the evaluation of your request. I will report the request to langcom no later than 20 November. --Sotiale (talk) 10:45, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
@Sotiale, thank you for the continuous engagement and finding time out of your busy schedule to attend to this request. I would like to know if you were able to report our request to langcom. Any update? Thanks.--Samatics (talk) 05:46, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
@Samatics: I sent my mail requesting comments to the langcom public mailing list. Submission of opinions from other langcom members begins. If there is enough support, langcom will go through the process for approval; As to whether this language was actually written as a Gungbe language, langcom may be consulted by experts. Langcom may ask you for help with this process if they need it. When this process is finished, langcom will contact you regarding the wiki settings. --Sotiale (talk) 10:57, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the update.--Samatics (talk) 11:27, 21 November 2021 (UTC)

Create of Bengali Wikiquote website separately (bn.wikiquote.org)

Hello, Bengali language has huge numbers of famous quotation. Everytime it's very difficult to create page after written "Wq/bn/" at there. I ensure you if it has been created people will come and write famous persons quotes (like- Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, etc. many more). Our Bengali wikipedia quite fully active now. I'm also active in bnwiki; also, if it's necessary, I'll trying to active fully in bn-wikiquote instead of bnwiki. Thanks ~ ওহিদ (talk) 14:16, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Like all kinds of other "request approval of XXX request"s, you'll need to invite at least two more active users, to actively contribute that test project for at least 3 months, currently there's only one user actively contributes that, and in some months there are even zero, that's a bit far from approval. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:17, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Approval of Pa'O Karen Wikipedia (Wp/blk)

I am the founder of Pa'O Wikipedia, I also do a lot of Pa'O translations on Translatewiki, Incubators also have sufficient articles of Pa'O language. I would like to know what is required for Pa'O language approval, check out all of the things I mentioned and explain the requirements to me again, thanks.--Music writer Dr.Intobesa of Japanese idol NMB48 and BNK48. (talk) 13:11, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

It looks like neither this, nor the Wiktionary one are eligible for now, means that the language verifiction isn't completed yet, any ideas on how this language is eligible for Wikimedia wikis? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:51, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
Hi, @Liuxinyu970226:, I often have problems using the wikipedia project, the problem with using my wikipedia project is that I do not know how to use the wikipedia project properly, for whatever reason, I'm trying to be the best at using the wikipedia project. I initially tried to open Wiktionary Pa'O, but a Burmese admin said Wikipedia Pa'O was first approved, Wiktionary Pa'O must be confirmed, so I would like Wikipedia Pa'O to be confirmed first. Please advise me on what I should do next to get Wikipedia Pa’O approval, I'm too busy right now, so I will be late for my reply, if I'm late in replying, I'm sorry, thanks.--Music writer Dr.Intobesa of Japanese idol NMB48 and BNK48. (talk) 08:53, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

It was thought that there was no problem with eligibility, so the status was changed for both requests. Wp/blk has been active recently and has been active for about 3 months including this month. I hope these activities will last a few months and show your community sustainability. Please note that this is my personal opinion, other committee members may have different opinions. --Sotiale (talk) 12:44, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

@Liuxinyu970226:, Thank you very much, I'm ready to start working on Pa'O Wikipedia now, I had a lot of NMB48 work last week. There are currently 634 articles for Pa'O Wikipedia, so I would like to request that open Pa'O Wikipedia, I would rather get your advice on what to do next to get Pa'O Wikipedia enabled, as I am not an experienced Wiki user, I still need to learn more about how to use a wiki, I'm interested in many languages, so I want to do a lot of work on multiple languages on the wiki, thanks.--Music writer Dr.Intobesa of Japanese idol NMB48 and BNK48. Approval of Talysh Wikipedia (Wp/tly)

Talysh Wikipedia has been active for a long time. I think it's time to approve. Thanks everyone.--Patriot Kor (talk) 19:47, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello. I've been watching your project carefully to see if it meets the criteria. But recently your project has seen a decline in active users, so I'm looking forward to seeing more in the next few months. In your project, there are fake users who are active to fake the activity of the project(this is obviously not your fault), so if I exclude them, the number of active users is as follows(except incubator admin Minorax); June - 2, July - 3, August - 3, September - 2, October - 1, November - 1. --Sotiale (talk) 02:58, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi, You said true. We have very few users. But we also have a few users who are always working. Are these not enough? In the coming months, I will take some measures to increase activity! Thanks for your reply.--Patriot Kor (talk) 09:29, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
A standard 'minimum' that can be considered is 3 active users. Approved projects typically exceed this criterion and show persistence of 3-5 months. A number of factors are taken into account, but that is generally the case. --Sotiale (talk) 09:05, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Sassaresu (Wp/sdc)

Ladies / Gentlemen, I am one of the few users who have been trying for months to make the Wikipedia in the Sassaresu language (a variant of the old and respectable Sardinian language) come out of the Incubator. And right now where we have reached the 1,000 pages and are ready to claim an honorable place for Sassarese among the regional Wikipedias of Europe, someone has posted a sign reading "This page may meet the criteria for speedy deletion. The given reason is: lowercase"! Now, this project, which started in 2007, is going to be aborted if we have to comply by that as there are still very few users. But we are spreading voice also thru local newspapers to recruit passionate users and might be successful. I do not know who put that sign or how I can remove it, so I am asking and appealing to you to remove it from the over 600 pages that suddenly show this sign in order to save the project and the dignity of the few users and (possible) many readers who have respectively worked and appreciated the project so far. Please support us! Sincerely yours,--Sirmio Cabinigre 17:45, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

All ok. Thank you and have a good day.--Sirmio Cabinigre 10:13, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
Hello. Oh my gosh, I misread your inquiry as a request for approval ;) Anyway, it is to thank you for your efforts. There seems to be something wrong with the delete tag. Glad it's fixed now. Currently, your project has achieved significant growth with your efforts, but it lacks a bit of active users demonstrating the sustainability of the community. I'm well aware your difficulties, but I would recommend working with active users. Thank you! --Sotiale (talk) 03:42, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Verification of Gungbe Wiktionary (Wt/guw)

Hi,
Wp/guw has been verified as eligible, We therefore seek for the verification of Wt/guw. Thanks.--Samatics (talk) 04:46, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

I just changed the status of the proposal. Unless the language is a controversial one or if it is difficult to obtain eligibility(fictional language, etc..), it can also be processed concurrently with approval. --Sotiale (talk) 05:56, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks.--Samatics (talk) 06:54, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Wp/sdc

I'm one of the active users on Incubator:Wp/sdc ([12] ). This project has more than 1,000 articles ([13] ).

Due to recent editing ([14] ), Wikipedia in linga sassaresa is now well developed. I thus propose for the Committee to approve its coming out of the Incubator. Please review the project for final approval. Thank. Sincerely yours, --Sirmio Cabinigre 11:00, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello. According to the tool, there are quite a few recently active users of your project, but a few of these are fake users to pretend to be active. This is obviously not your fault, it's just the activity of some abuser active in incubatorwiki. After excluding these users, the number of active users is as follows; August - 2, September - 5, October - 1, November - 2. While the quantity and quality of the pages is important, the sustainability of the community is also an important factor in approval. So, the current situation requires more active editors. --Sotiale (talk) 09:09, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Attention needed for Wiktionary Banjar's Proposal (Wt/bjn)

Hello. I'm M. Nafis Al-Mukhdi, one of the Wikimedia Banjar community.

So, just a few minutes ago, we have finished our proposal and adding it into the request page--because the request page itself has been created a long time ago but without the proposal.

Since July 2021, there are 5 active users in this project. Localization also has been done on TranslateWiki. In short, please take a look at our proposal and tell us if there is something that we're missing.

Best regards. Mnafisalmukhdi1 (talk) 14:07, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

For eligibility there's no problem anymore, for approval you will need two more active users (where you're the only one per [15]). Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 02:21, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
Hello. Your project has been very inactive in the last few months. For approval, actively contributing users must show community activity for several months. At the moment, it seems that you are almost the only one active. --Sotiale (talk) 09:13, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
So, is this the same reason for "not eligible"? I don't think it's true. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 05:13, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for all of your attention. I'm happy that this project is eligible. I'll tell the other member of the community about this so they will active again. Mnafisalmukhdi1 (talk) 11:22, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Approval of Okinawan Wikipedia (wp/ryu)

Hello! The Okinawan wikipedia has been quite active with complete localization, so I think it is time to consider the approval of Okinawan Wikipedia.--John Smith Ri (talk) 07:31, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

It looks good that the most used core messages are translated and the activities of Okinawan Wikipedia on the Incubator show that the test project has been active for 5 months (with 3~5 active editors each month). iyumu   01:58, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
This project, like the other projects shown above, has fake users active. Again, this is clearly not the fault of this project, just some users interfering with the work of langcom. Check the block status of their accounts. Excluding them, this project does not meet the general activity criteria. --Sotiale (talk) 12:17, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
FWIW, I think the main problem is Bosco1122, the potential master of sock accounts on incubator, and their chronic wrong behaviors. I propose to request permanently blocking that user on the second project, so that at least one criteria of community-request global ban may meet. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:02, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
But even excluding those that are sockpuppets of Bosco1122, the last month data did also meet at least 3 (TINKO, Uchinahito and Eiennohoshi). --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:37, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
You know, do you remember a project that was recently approved with only one element, with at least 3 editors at one time? Probably not. --Sotiale (talk) 11:00, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
