Talk page protection

The talk page of PlyrStar93 (talk · contribs) has received immense amounts of vandalism recently (which shows that they're doing a great job vandalism fighting :-)). Would it be worth applying temporary protection? Considering the large amount of disruptive editing from LTAs it attracts, despite a very recent previous protection expired, it would probably be beneficial and necessary. Thanks, --SkyGazer 512 (talk) 02:25, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Help:Redirect/Broken redirect oddity

(moved from Meta:Babel)
The page Help:Redirect/Broken redirect is an intentional broken redirect to Help:Redirect/foo. But the redirect is listed neither in Special:WhatLinksHere/Help:Redirect/foo nor in Category:English documentation. We would expect the redirect to be listed in those two places. Also, it is protected, so I cannot null edit it. How can the problem be fixed? GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 21:21, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

Install PlantUML extension

Hello everybody,

For Wikitrace I would like to be able to create UML diagrams directly on the wiki. The PlantUML extension make a prefect match for that. Please let me know if

  • there is any issue regarding such an install, and in that case if I can help solve this
  • or if it can be installed without any problem, and in that case when can it be expected to be installed.

--Psychoslave (talk) 06:36, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

The sysops and bureaucrats on this page cannot help you with installation of an extension. You'd need to follow the process described at mw:Review queue. Anomie (talk) 12:19, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

Guido den Broeder

Despite the warning to stop personal attacks (acknowledged by the subsequent removal), they are continuing with personal attacks. I believe I am not impartial with the case. Thanks! — regards, Revi 13:00, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

I agree that some form of block is in order. It's important to note that they are currently indefinitely blocked on three other wikis, including enwiki, and have been banned from many IRC channels. While I believe many people have something to contribute, I believe there's been enough rope given to him at this point. Nihlus 13:11, 11 November 2018 (UTC) There are three discussions on the forum page that he started regarding his IRC ban. It is important that you read all of them for context. Nihlus 14:32, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Support indef here and a global lock. clearly not here to contribute positively to the encyclopedia.--Cohaf (talk) 13:18, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
For undoing blanking and removing libel? Guido den Broeder (talk) 13:32, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Blocks are not always what they seem.
Regarding nl:wikipedia: A decade ago, an administrator demanded real-life personal favors in exchange for my right to edit. I refused.
Regarding nl:wikimedia: I have no edits there. Revenge-block of a decade ago because I started Wikisage.
Regarding en:wikipedia: No block reason was provided. Some editors disliked that I was editing an article about a young supermodel. The edits still stand to this day.
IRC: I asked an informative question.

Guido den Broeder (talk) 13:43, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Meanwhile, I have made thousands of constructive edits to hundreds of topics, virtually all still surviving unchanged after many years. But I am the founder of Wikisage, so I must be the enemy. Guido den Broeder (talk) 13:53, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
I concur with Cohaf. The editor in question has provided more controversy and conflict than constructive contributions. Vermont (talk) 13:55, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
The controversy relates to me as a person, not to my editing. As you can see on nl:Wikipedia people are still talking about me every day despite my ten-year leave. Guido den Broeder (talk) 14:00, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Is their discussion pertaining to you positive or negative? Vermont (talk) 14:02, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Good question, thanks for that. There are two groups. Some editors complain that people are leaving nl:Wikipedia for nl:Wikisage, want to make it impossible for either encyclopedia to copy articles, punish users that do, etcetera, while all the time calling me an evil person in colorful terms. I get hatemail from them every day as well, and the occasional death threat by phone. Other, better informed users defend me. So far they have won, but their numbers are declining as more and more leave nl:Wikipedia behind. Guido den Broeder (talk) 14:13, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
do you have concrete evidence to support your claims?--Cohaf (talk) 14:15, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Of course. I can send you some recent e-mails if you like. Users from nl:Wikipedia also mass-vandalized nl:Wikisage in its early days, filling every page with filth, and hacked into our database, mail and IRC. Guido den Broeder (talk) 14:22, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
if yes, trust and safety should be the route. --Cohaf (talk) 14:25, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Also note the history of their other account: en:w:User:Roadcreature. Nihlus 14:09, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
That's my original account renamed, exercising my right to vanish. You will find most of my contributions to the en:encyclopedia there. Guido den Broeder (talk) 14:18, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Note that both Revi and Nihlus, who are acting as a tandem here, are on the opposite side of this little conflict. They support The Banner and Nemo in their attempts to remove me from the Public Speakers list - because, according to the comment that The Banner kept adding to my entry, my goal with Wikisage must be to undermine Wikipedia. If in my response I came across as a little harsh, then I apologize, but I think you can understand why that was. Cheers, Guido den Broeder (talk) 14:51, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Enough is enough. While I seeked impartial admin to handle it, at this stage I believe block should be done. Indef'ed given their xwiki behaviors and past blocks. — regards, Revi 15:00, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

As a note, I fully support this block. Vermont (talk) 15:26, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
endorse too.--Cohaf (talk) 16:51, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Yes. And someone could write up the paperwork for a global ban too, I believe. --Rschen7754 17:45, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Maybe, but I don't have time for that right now, so if someone else wanna do it, sure. — regards, Revi 07:16, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Had a read through the recent history and support an indefinite block, especially with the RETIRED banner in place in their user space. They are bringing no evident value to this wiki, and looking through their xwiki edits at GUC it is a long time since he has edited with value to the scope of the Wikimedia wikis. The claims of personal attack are hard to credit with his approach and words. I think that the attempts to add themself to Public speakers was interesting and always bound to fail, to continue that argument and take it to multiple user talk pages was plainly argumentative and self-centred; and the non-inclusion warranted in light of the multiple blocks. I consider the matter dealt with appropriately and unworthy of further review.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:46, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Request for account creation

I would like to create User:Pine W as a doppelganger account, but it is currently blocked as being too similar to the existing User:Pinew from Turkish Wikipedia. Would a Meta admin please create that account for me? I don't need any of the User:Pine account permissions to be copied to the User:Pine W account. --Pine 23:46, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Maybe you are better to create a different doppelganger that is not like someone else's.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:26, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
Or create it at a wiki where you are an admin, and have the rights to do it without someone else having to explain such actions, and get your details, etc.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:29, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
billinghurst I tried to create this account on the Outreach wiki, where I am an admin, and I checked the extra box that I thought would allow me to create this account, but I got an error message saying that I lacked sufficient permissions. --Pine 04:00, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
@Pine:   Done That sounds like a phabricator escalation as I wouldn't have thought that things here were set up differently with regard to permissions, as meta admin rights should be no different to override the spoof settings.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:14, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

User:Johanna Strodt (WMDE) requesting the rights massmessage and translation administrator

Hello, I'm Johanna and I've been working in WMDE's software department team for almost two years in the Technical Wishes project. (global edit count)

I'd like to request the massmessage and the translation administrator rights. The Technical Wishes project builds new MediaWiki tools and improves existing ones. A central part of our work is communication. In the past two years, I've focused on onwiki communication, such as conducting feedback rounds and announcing updates, mainly on German Wikipedia. These rights would allow me to work efficiently and independently in other language projects as well.

Thanks a lot! -- Johanna Strodt (WMDE) (talk) 09:05, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

User:Cauystinews

Don't know if they are trolling or what but they first place a global lock template in their user page which was reverted and now they redirected to a globally blocked account. Block evasion? Some eyes needed but clearly not here to contribute positively to the encyclopedia.--Cohaf (talk) 05:09, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

They did helpfully revert vandalism a day or so ago, so probably just a watching brief if they are just fiddling in their userspace. If they are an LTA then that should be managed by stewards.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:31, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

Report concerning Dschungelfan

Dschungelfan (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • GUC • CA)Reasons: On the intro here is written: To report cross-wiki vandalism see Steward requests/Miscellaneous. According to this advise I reported the cross-wiki issue here and on administrative advise further here. For the case the conditions for a global ban are not satisfied, I request here for a local ban/blocking. Regarding to this action here I have to inform, that the requesting user is blocked for one year doe to his permanent actions against German administrators in this way, like he has done it here again through the back door, see this user blocking procedure. This is a clear cheating of his block in the German Wikipedia through the back door and should have administrative consequences here. The matter has been discussed very shortly on the German administrator's notice board, afterwards on the talk page of the admin closing the issue. The admins are of the opinion, they couldn't do anything within the WP:DE. I am of a different opinion anyway. At that time of the user blocking procedure I supported the user, but this kind of gaming the system is unacceptable (see also this discussion). A global ban should be taken into consideration for continuous hunting of German administrators despite of a one year block, for the most part exactly for the same behavior. If he won't be stopped - at least by a local block - he will continue this behavior. BTW: See also his previous actions in the second section of his talk page and the corresponding request for deletion. Uwe Martens (talk) 23:10, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

@Uwe Martens: This page is only for meta-related issues, and then outside of steward matters. If deWP wishes to start a global ban discussion for this user, then please see global ban, this is a community responsibility, not one belonging to meta. AT this point of time, outside of stewards' pages, he has done nothing requiring a block at meta. I have asked the stewards whether they are comfortable with requests to SRP by this person to be reverted.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:34, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

I explained detailed, that on WP:DE the admins say, it's a matter of Meta. I further explained detailed with diff-links, that on the requests for global ban the admins say, it's a matter of Meta internal. So this is the correct page to place the issue. What has to be discussed is a ban/block for continuous abusing meta for hunting German admins since more than one year. For me here EOD. I have no time to repeat my arguments again and again, if nobody here is willing to read or comment them! PS: See meanwhile closed issue on Requests for comment/Global ban of user:Dschungelfan. Uwe Martens (talk) 08:54, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
@Uwe Martens: Global bans can only be implemented by stewards following the global conversation of all contributors from all the communities, which will be why you have been directed to meta, for a conversation. Referral to meta does not mean that it is a matter for meta administrators, which is the purpose of this page. If someone has said that it is our issue, they are mistaken, and you have been misadvised. The matter of a user's behaviour on pages that stewards manage can be adjusted by the community on their guidance. Meta administrators can manage a user's behaviour on the broader meta set of pages. The user is not editing in the broader meta pages.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:11, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
I think you don't have forgotten the mega-deletion-discussion from September 2017, which I linked already. Now the user continues this behavior, despite a one year block in the German Wikipedia, especially for hunting German admins. This was the last time I explained this permanent cross-wiki abuse. Regards, Uwe Martens (talk) 10:47, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
You have attempted to have this user banned or blocked from meta/globally through many different venues: a RfC, RFH, SRM, a Steward's talk page, and T:SRP. Please stop here. This issue is not yet to the point of a global ban, or any meta action. This user has not vandalized meta, and thus no local action is required. They are blocked on only one wiki, and thus not eligible for a global ban. The desysops they have proposed on SRP has been in good-faith, and of the ones I checked (the 5 or so desysops requested in May, and the one last week) all were enacted. If dewiki sysops are telling you that it is an issue for stewards or meta to deal with, they are incorrect. Please deal with this locally. I also notice that you say there is crosswiki abuse; if there is, please provide diffs or other forms of evidence to support this, as I have yet to see any. Thank you, Vermont (talk) 12:03, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
Closed Issues of xwiki abuse should not be discussed here, again that is a matter for local wikis in the first place to manage, then afterwards stewards. Either way, it simply is not a local matter for meta administrators.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:09, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

MediaWiki:WMDE FR2016/Resources/ProgressBar/style.css

Hi. I do not know why, but this page has a wrong contentmodel - css instead sanitized-css. Thank you. IKhitron (talk) 14:41, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

The reason why is that it's in the MediaWiki namespace, not the Template namespace. Also, the wikitext parameters or transclusions that I see you have in there aren't likely to work with either content model. Anomie (talk) 16:18, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi,

I would like to have massmessage right to send out the newsletter of Wikimedia Nederland, delivered to talk pages. We only send the newsletter to people on the list. I work at Wikimedia Nederland. Thank you!

--Germien Cox (talk) 11:25, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

@Germien Cox: Does this have the endorsement of Wikimedia Nederland? Can we get the endorsement of someone from WmNL?  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:10, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
@Billinghurst:Herewith my confirmation and request to grant Germien Cox the rights. At Wikimedia Nederland we are jointly responsible for sending the WMNL newsletter. Thanks! Denise Jansen WMNL (talk) 08:32, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Requesting removal of talk page access for User:Guido den Broeder

They are now using their talk page to attack editors, which was partly why they were blocked. See [1]. Thank you, Vermont (talk) 00:56, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Not done on this occasion. He is responding to me, and I can bear any criticism that he can make. If he starts new attacks, we can manage it then.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:55, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Closure needed

Can a Crat close the Requests for translation adminship? The closure is overdue for 3 days as of now. Thanks!--Cohaf (talk) 01:57, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

MF-W's question remains unanswered so I'd not close until the user confirms she's read and understood the guidelines of the translation admin toolkit. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:52, 30 November 2018 (UTC)
@MarcoAurelio: I got your point. Thanks!--Cohaf (talk) 11:01, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

Please redirect {{ll|ORES}} to mw:ORES

I am afraid I cannot see how to edit https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Requests_for_comment/Flagged_revisions_deployment&action=submit and replace {{ll|ORES}} with something that links to mw:ORES. I tried {{ll|:mw:ORES}}, but that did not work, although [[:mw:ORES]] is correct. Could somebody please do this, and consider adding to Template:Localized_link an indication how to go about it. PJTraill (talk) 21:22, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

@PJTraill: the template is for localised links, not cross wiki links. So just put in a hard link  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:18, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
Two things, firstly it is called ORES in all languages at MW: so it wouldn't make any practical difference; secondly the function of the template is to pick up the alternate language name and that is never going to be able to work xwiki in the current design, so give up trying.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:25, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
@Billinghurst:: Thanks, glad to hear a hard link is good enough; I have stuck one in for convenience of other readers. PJTraill (talk) 12:43, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
