Meta:Requests for adminship

Requests and proposals Requests for adminship on Meta Archives
This page hosts requests for administrator access on the Meta-Wiki; for requesting administrator access on any other wiki, please see the index of request and proposal pages, where a steward can do the job if required. Bureaucrat, checkuser, oversight and bot requests are also made here. Before making a request here, please see the administrator policy.

Most requests should be listed here for at least seven days; bureaucrats should only close after the minimum time foreseen in the relevant policy. Discussions are not closed early. Adminship will be granted by a support ratio of at least 75%. If a request hasn't been addressed by a bureaucrat after a lengthy period of time, please leave a note at Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. Requests may be extended, or put on hold by bureaucrats, pending decision or finding of consensus.

Requests for temporary adminship and bot requests may be less formal and often go for a shorter duration if consensus becomes clear after only a few days of discussion.

All editors with an account on Meta, at least one active account on any Wikimedia project, and a link between the two, may participate in any request and give their opinion of the candidate. However, more active Meta editors' opinions may be given additional weight in controversial cases.

See below for information on prerequisites on submitting a request, and how to add a nomination.
Wikimedia Meta-Wiki

Note that this page is for access on Meta only. See the permission request to stewards page for adminship/deadminship requests on other projects.

Regular adminship

  1. Before requesting admin access, please check the policy for requesting adminship.
  2. Use the box below, insert your username:

  1. Place a request on this page, by transcluding the subpage, for example {{Meta:Requests for adminship/Username}}. Please put the newest request on the top. Bear in mind that even if you do meet the criteria above this does not mean that the community will automatically approve a request.
  2. Please note, past administrators who have given up their rights must meet all criteria at the time of the new request. There is no separate process for reinstating past administrators.

Please note: Ill-considered nominations for adminship can be draining and deflating to both the community and the candidate. Any successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate sufficient experience within the Wikimedia community, in addition to a familiarity with Meta-Wiki. If a candidate is not already a local administrator or holder of advanced permissions on a Wikimedia content project, he or she is less likely to pass a request for adminship here at Meta-Wiki.

Add your request below under the bureaucratship section. Please note:

  • Only active administrators can become bureaucrats, and only after at least 6 months of regular adminship.
  • User is endorsed by two current bureaucrats after he/she nominates themselves here.

If you fail any of these requirements, you will not be assigned the bureaucrat flag. For more information see Meta bureaucrat page.

Other access

For these types of access, create a subpage just as you would for regular adminship and add it to the appropriate section of this page.

  • Limited adminship: If you need sysop access for a particular reason (such as ability to edit protected pages), you may request limited adminship on Meta. If granted, the user understands that they will only be allowed to use the tools for the tasks they were approved, and not doing so will be grounds for immediate removal. Temporary sysop access will normally be valid for one month unless requested and granted otherwise.

  • CheckUser: please read the CheckUser policy and add your request below under the checkuser section, in the same way as an admin request.

  • Oversight: please read the Oversight policy and add your request below under the oversight section, in the same way as an admin request.

For these types of access, just ask on Meta request for help from a sysop or bureaucrat page:

WMF Office Staff and Contractors

  • If you are an WMF Official or Contractor and need rights on Meta-Wiki to perform your duties the process is different. Please have a look at the WMF staff userrights policy on Office wiki[restricted access] and follow the procedure described there. If in doubt, please contact Trust and Safety; or send an email to ca wikimedia org.(source)

Requests for regular adminship

Hello all, I'm Sam 👋

I am currently an administrator, checkuser and oversighter on the English Wikipedia. I was previously an administrator here on Meta (2018 - 2019) and a steward (2018 - 2020), both of which rightly yet regrettably lapsed due to inactivity during a break from Wikimedia projects.

I am requesting meta adminship again for similar reasons as before - being an admin here will allow me to:

Since my return to editing, I have continued improving my aptitude at using the admin/functionary tools, been heavily involved in anti-abuse work and worked towards increasing my TimedMediaHandler maintenance experience as pointed out by Xaosflux. I am again able to commit a significant amount of volunteer time, but for transparency I will highlight that I also intend to run for re-election in the 2022 steward elections.

Many thanks for your consideration -- TNT (talk • she/they) 00:02, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

  •   Support, but I have to note that CN adminship is now totally separated into the CN administrator flag, so you will have to get that one too. --Base (talk) 00:13, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Infinite0694 3

Hi, all. I'd like to apply for Meta-wiki adminship. I was a former Meta wiki admin. See:Meta:Administrators/Removal/October 2021 I was so busy that I didn't have time to edit on Meta-wiki because of the Coronavirus outbreak. But, I can make time to volunteer activity here from now on. Unfortunately, there is no native Japanese Steward left to deal with LTAs from JAWP. I currently have admin rights on JAWP(BC, CU, OS and Interface administrator) and have GS flag since 2016. So, I think I can make use of my skills here.--Infinite0694 (Talk) 16:00, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Typically I won't have much issues with this, and I trust you. I know COVID is an issue everywhere, we had a bad outbreak here too. There are some areas I am not that comfortable with, that is (1) the removal isn't due to self requested removal, it's a forced removal by inactivity. In between the removal and this re-request, there isn't much activity either. (2) Even if we count the actions you taken here, most are blocking of accounts that have no edits here using a weird red-link reason sockpuppet and they aren't that regular. For one I blocked more ISECHIKA socks during the period and many others do so too. I am seeing not a negative for supporting the access but I don't see too much of a plus of supporting the access either. I will be more supportive of immediate restoration of admin rights if it's someone who give up the rights voluntarily and then wanting it back, that's perfectly fine and should be supported as rights are not hats. This case is different as it's a mandatory removal due to inactivity. THere are some discussions started by me on Babel on changing the inactivity clause which I welcome participation but for now let's respect it. And after the removal they immediately wanted the access back without any demonstrated activity. Hence, I am quite torn with this with COVID being a valid extenuating reason but then this request seems a little premature to me based on what I had said.   Neutral. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:25, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
I think it's exactly as you said. I have been taking part in a vote here for a long time and have seen people who are trying to request admin flag like me as soon as he/she gets back. I think I would have made the same comment. We had received benefits from the programs which can automatically lock LTAs by rxy, but LTAs from JAWP inflict further damage on Wikimedia project now. The situation is serious. So, I do want to edit and create global abusefilter to deal with abusive username account. I've already considered applying for limited admin flag, but I will only be allowed to use the tools for the approved tasks. If I encounter vandalism here on Meta, this will not help me. I would be frustrated. I have experience in the various aspects of fighting vandalism. So, I think the regular adminship would be useful for me. Central reason for my inactivity was due to an outbreak of Coronavirus. My lifestyle has been turned upside down by this. I apologize for not being able to help you out throughout that period. I can spend a great deal of time in volunteering here on Meta now. Thanks.--Infinite0694 (Talk) 14:37, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
  •   Support. No major concerns except inactivity. We are all volunteers here, and at times there are things we need to prioritize more. They have all the advanced permissions at jawiki and are a global sysop. Will clearly use the tools for good.-BRP ever 15:09, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

We certainly need a Japanese steward or two; counteracting entrenched ultranationalists is a matter of some urgency. Will you be pro-active in this area? --Hillbillyholiday Unfrozen (talk) 15:35, 2 December 2021 (UTC) Secretary-General, Wikimedia Affiliates Association Sweet smiling moonbeams
