Fundraising translation feedback

edit

Hey Wargo,

I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback for Polish using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Many Thanks

Help with Polish translations

edit

Hi Wargo, I am contacting you as I would highly appreciate your help to translate and proofread three short texts from English to Polish for WMF's multilingual fundraising campaign that will be starting in two weeks. I kindly ask you to go onto the Fundraising Translation Hub https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising/Translation, and click on the three texts available for translation. All of these three texts need proofreading in order to be sure we have quality translations. Please check the review button as you work yourself through the texts. I would be most grateful if you would spread this message and ask fellow English/Polish Wikipedians to do the same. Please reach out to me by email, jrobell@wikipedia.org if you have any questions. A warm thank you in advance. Kind regards, Jrobell (talk) 14:57, 21 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decitions

edit

The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.

If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.

I'm notifying you because you participated in one of several relevant discussions. -Pete F (talk) 22:24, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Update

edit

Hi Wargo. Thanks for your work on Tech/Server switch 2016/pl. Ops has decided to do this at 14:00 UTC, instead of 07:00 UTC. Could you update the translation? I added the new times yesterday, but I didn't invalidate the previous translations, so you'll need to look for the sentence in the already "Translated" section. Thanks, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:12, 24 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Check everything is up to date now. --Wargo (talk) 18:24, 24 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Tłumaczenie obcojęzycznych nazw własnych

edit

Byłbym bardziej ostrożny. Editing Department to trochę korpomowa.

Pozdrawiam!

Thanks for your participation during the Inspire Campaign focused on outreach to outside knowledge networks from February 2017. I'm interested in hearing your experience during the campaign, so if you're able, I invite you to complete this brief survey to describe how you contributed to the campaign and how you felt about participating. I want to improve how campaigns are run, so let me know if there's something that could be done better for next time.

Please feel free to let me know on my talk page if you have any questions about the campaign or the survey. Thanks! I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 18:34, 31 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deprecjonować

edit

Tech ambassadors and translators

Dopisz im coś proszę od siebie. Dla nich komentarze są ważniejsze od tyld wstawianych tu i ówdzie, bo z komentarzy można się dowiedzieć co właściwie ludzie myślą, a same tyldy są nie wiadomo gdzie między zaangażowaniem a tureckim kazaniem. :) Tar Lócesilion (queta) 15:55, 11 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Tech ambassadors, "take two"

edit

Hello tech ambassador! This month has seen a good influx of new faces in this crew \o/ , so it is time to reactivate our conversations. Now that we have a pretty good coverage of so many different projects, here are some topics for your consideration.

  1. Are there further thoughts on the role itself? I hope the questions available on Meta can help spark them. Please weigh in at Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#Tech ambassadors, take 2.
  2. How about we try and organise future collective work in a Phabricator workboard? Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#A Phab workboard for us? has all the details to explore this proposal.
  3. Finally, you are also welcome to comment at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T177923, should you happen to have suggestions for the Community Liaisons team, currently wondering how to measure "Wiki projects requesting beta features and other early deployments".

We hope to be able to host a live discussion in early 2018; until then, we're looking forward to hearing from you on Meta! All the best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk), on behalf of the Community Liaisons

Getting started on Phabricator

edit

Greetings, ambassador!

As recently discussed within this group, we are ready to experiment with setting up a project and its related workboard on Phabricator, the platform used in the Wikimedia movement for project management, software bug reporting and feature requests. It will help us coordinate and cooperate better on projects that should require ambassadors' involvement.

For the time being, I'm just asking that you please add your Phabricator nickname next to your name in the ambassadors' table (you can create an account now if you don't have one already). I will send you further information soon! Thanks for your patience as we get to the operational stage of this effort :) Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 14:49, 16 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ready for translation: Editing News #1—2018

edit

Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the upcoming issue of the multilingual newsletter for the visual editor, which will be widely delivered when it's end of Friday in Central Europe. Thanks in advance for your help with this: getting to interact with fellows so skilled like the translators are is among my favorite things about my job :) Best, Elitre (WMF) 10:29, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

PS: Here are some instructions. Please go to the translation page: your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've selected it, you'll see the document in English side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or modify existing ones. Please let us know about difficulties you experience with the translation memory system.

Tech News, RC filters

edit

"Parameter for unpatrolled edits in Recent Changes filters changed name so you need to update saved filters and links", you added to Tech News a few days ago. Does this refer to phab:T190408 or something else? And if it does refer to phab:T190408, do you think we need a new item, and that the one in changes later this week in Tech/News/2018/15 wasn't enough? /Johan (WMF) (talk) 15:25, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I removed it for now, but should be able to put it back tomorrow before we freeze the issue. (: /Johan (WMF) (talk) 20:01, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Funkcjonalność

edit

Por. Funkcjonalność czy funkcja autorstwa Arleny Witt, niegdyś wikipedystki, obecnie znanej youtuberki. Zapamiętaj proszę tę różnicę. Przedwczoraj widziałem błędne tłumaczenie w Interaction Timeline, a dziś w tekście Chrisa Koernera ws. Template Styles. Tar Lócesilion (queta) 12:00, 20 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

New Tech Ambassadors Phabricator board

edit

Hello!

You have listed yourself as an active Tech Ambassador, thank you for that!

We have recently set up a board on Phabricator so that you can learn about tasks and updates that are potentially interesting for your community, and take action when necessary. During the pilot phase we are currently in, to avoid confusion, only Wikimedia Foundation's Community Liaisons will mark tasks so that they end up in the various columns. Thanks for your understanding!

Please follow this Phabricator board (learn how to). You'll receive "notifications" for updates in all tasks listed there. In case you choose to receive them as email; we currently expect the volume to be fairly low, but in any case you can learn how to manage it.

If you have any feedback about this board, please leave your questions and comments on the Ambassadors talk page.

Translation of proposals

edit

Hey! This is a bit complicated to explain, so bear with me. We currently are unable to use the Translate extension on proposals themselves. Even if we could, we wouldn't do it right now because proposals are still being evaluated and can change significantly before the voting period. What we did in previous years is wait until the proposals are well-defined, then translate them to English, and move the non-English version to a dedicated translations page for that proposal (example). This list appears as a link for "Translations" (example).

This is far from ideal, but making the Translate extension work with our page structure, and cooperate with bot automation, is extremely complex. We have a while before the voting phase, so I hope to try to engineer something to make it work. In the meantime, if it's alright, I'll leave your proposal where it is. If you want, you can translate it back to English and move it to Multimedia and Commons category. Then we can restore the Polish later (should be easy because the translations will live in the page history).

For the record, I think it is a fantastic, well-defined proposal! If I were allowed to vote on it, I would :)

Thanks for all of your help with the survey this year! MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 01:59, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@MusikAnimal (WMF): I asked do you have person to translate, regardless of method - it can be the way used on previous years. --Wargo (talk) 11:03, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
No we do not have designated translators. We try to use machine translation to get the just of it, or seek a translator if need be. Regards, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 14:46, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support

While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), we are asking your help for Chinese, Ukrainian, Bengali, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Polish, Farsi, German, Cantonese, Finnish, Hindi, Thai, Dutch, and Greek, as these also matter to affiliates! Invitations to translate

Hello, Wargo,

Community Insights/Translation/2019/1-Invitation and the other pages listed at Community Insights/Translation#Requests for translations are ready to be translated. There is a little more information about this group of invitations on the mailing list. Also, please keep an eye on that page: more pages will be ready for you soon!

Thank you so much for your help translating these messages. The survey team identified Polish as a key language (they're hoping to offer the entire thing, from invitations to the full survey in Polish), and naturally I thought of you. Community Wishlist Survey 2020

edit

Hello!

You are getting this message because you've previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey, in either the Wikisource or Wiktionary categories. I wanted to let you know that this year's survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until November 11. Unlike previous years, we are only accepting proposals for non-Wikipedia content projects with no dedicated teams (i.e., Wikibooks, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikiversity, Wikispecies, Wikivoyage, and Wikinews). You can learn more on the survey page.

You can vote on proposals from November 20 to December 2. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won't send out a separate reminder to you about that. We look forward to your participation. Thank you! IFried (WMF) (talk) 18:52, 22 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Community Wishlist Survey 2020 needs translations

edit

Hello!

I'm contacting you because you've already translated some messages for the Community Wishlist Survey. We need more translations for the 2020 edition, to create a survey that would serve as many users as we know.

The list below shows our needs by order of importance (most important first):

  1. The invitation sent to communities. It summarizes the process. We plan to distribute it soon on this year target wikis. The more translations we have, the better!
  2. The form for non-English speakers. Anyone should be able to add their wish, no matter which language they speak. Translating this short form is very important to encourage diversity and equity.
  3. The survey itself, where the entire process is described.
  4. The preload form, that provides more context on existing wishes.

Some languages are already covered (maybe by you), but some messages have been updated, and there is always some room for reviewing and polishing messages.

Thank you in advance for your help! This survey can't be successful without your assistance. :)

Wikisource Pagelist Widget - First Iteration Feedback

edit

Hello everyone,

I am pleased to announce that Wikisource Pagelist Widget is now available on Beta Wikisource. We need your help in testing the widget and providing feedback.

You can test the widget by editing the following Index page on Beta Wikisource:

https://en.wikisource.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Index:War_and_Peace.djvu

There is a new ‘Preview pagelist’ button under the pagelist field. Click it to get a preview, and then click on any page number in the preview to open the widget.

You can also create a fresh Index Page for any other PDF or DjVu from Wikimedia Commons and test it.

We need your feedback on the following questions:

  • What is your general opinion about the Pagelist Widget?
  • Is it obvious how to use the widget? If not, what is difficult to understand?
  • What other changes would you like to suggest in order to improve the widget further?

Please provide your feedback on the Project Talk Page on Meta-Wiki.

P.S. - The widget doesn’t work on Local Uploads in Beta Wikisource as of now (due to phab:T257807).

Test and co-create a new feature for reusing references with different details

edit

Hi,

this is Lina and Eline from the Technical Wishes product team at Wikimedia Deutschland. We hope this message finds you well!

We are currently working on a solution to help Wikimedians easily reuse references with different details – a problem related to several Community Wishlist Survey wishes (partially) supported by you (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4).

We want to invite you to a user testing session. During the session, you can test a prototype for Visual Editor and provide your feedback. Sessions will take 30–45 minutes, compensation is available. If you are interested, please sign up here (privacy policy).

Please note that most likely, we won’t be able to have sessions with everyone who is interested. We will try to test with a diverse group of wiki contributors. If you’re a fit, we will reach out to you to schedule an appointment.

Hope to hear from you soon, and please let us know if you have any questions!
