RFC about French WP's admin JPS68 abuses

Hello Trijnstel,

First, best wishes for 2013.

Following my previous message of 21 August 2012 I wish to inform you that my trials to give a chance to dialogue with JPS68 failed and that it leads to my blocking on 19 November, 2012. You may find all the details in the RFC I filled:
Harassement, intimidation and WP's rules infringements and abuse by French WP's administrator JPS68 and others.
Best regards, Yoav (talk) 09:29, 1 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Yoav. Thanks for informing me. But again, the stewards as a group isn't a global arbcom. I can see the French Wikipedia does have a local arbitration committee. Try contacting them or the administrator who blocked you (Starus). Unfortunately I [or any of the other stewards] can't do anything for you I'm afraid. Kind regards, Trijnsteltalk 20:45, 1 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Trijnstel, thanks for replying. The issue is absolutely not my blocking, neither a request for arbitration but a request to anyone who might have the legitimacy on behalf of WP to rule if the issues mentionned in the RFC are or aren't violations of WP's recommandations. The fact that those who are concerned by these issues are administrators make the need of a clear answer essential and indispensable. Btw, the French WP's arbitration committee is not operational and under decision-making discussion . Best regards, Yoav (talk) 09:44, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

wikispecies

Because page not been updated, so updated several times (I did not notice that the page is protected). Later, when continuously updated, I ignore protection issues. I'm really sorry. Now stop it--Shizhao (talk) 01:32, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I beg your pardon? It's understandable that you missed the protection notice, but since you know it now you should stop with it. Either ask the local admins to update/change the page or request local sysop rights, but I urgently ask you to stop right now since the local community clearly doesn't agree with your actions (and here). Trijnsteltalk 21:11, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I hace stop it. --Shizhao (talk) 00:28, 11 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

OTRS fiasco

Time passes and nothing happens... It seems as though the OTRS admins have decided to "circle the wagons" and pretend that the Indians do not exist. I really do find it very worrying that part of the organisation dedicated to ensuring good communication happens has decided not to communicate with the community over issues that concern us. I have no idea what to do next - thoughts welcome. Regards --Herby talk thyme 17:27, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Herby. I was about to poke you about this ... it's indeed strange that the admins say they'll discuss it (Tiptoety for example, while I have the evidence) and then remain silent for several days. Maybe we should add a note on Talk:OTRS/volunteering? Or is it an idea to email otrs-admins (if possible) and ask for a solution? Regards, Trijnsteltalk 21:52, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, they're in discussion with me. I have twice suggested that I think it's inappropriate for OTRS admins to be blocking a community elected steward's access to tools necessary to do the job. I haven't heard back from them, but I just sent the most recent one this morning. I suspect the delay in responding to you is because they're responding to me. Philippe (WMF) (talk) 02:58, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. This is just ridiculous. And the newly elected stewards from the 2013 elections should be given the access automatically imho. Trijnsteltalk 20:44, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
And now it's suddenly ok to get solely access to the stewards queue, only if we agree with it...? Strange. Trijnsteltalk 20:52, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Consensus can change. :) In the past it wasn't okay to give for just that queue - now, it is. They adjusted a policy that was sub-optimal, and in the course of that, you got what you wanted. If I were you, I'd call it a win, declare victory, and leave the battlefield. :) Philippe (WMF) (talk) 04:42, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I will. And I'm happy that something's gonna change in the procedure as it seems. :) (thanks btw!) Trijnsteltalk 21:46, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

WMNL survey

Goodmorning! Could I bother you again concerning the sitenotice for the WMNL survey? Do I need to take any action to get it switched on or will this happen by itself? I also saw that on https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralNotice it is tagged for multiple languages. Not just NL? Thanks again! SRientjes (talk) 09:56, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi! You don't have to do anything; it's already switched on, see Special:CentralNotice. Nemo bis modified the campaign. It shows on all Dutch projects, but only to people living in Dutch-speaking countries (The Netherlands, Belgium, The Netherlands Antilles, The Caribbean Netherlands and Suriname) and only to logged-in users. Trijnsteltalk 21:46, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wikispecies again

Dear Trijnstel,

I need your advise, because I'm now again blocked by species:User:Stho002. There is certainly a global problem in the project, which cannot be solved in WS itself (because other admins do nothing for that). Can you or other steward do something? If no, what can I do? Kuzia (talk) 20:08, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Update: so, I'm unblocked for the moment by species:User:Ark not without another battle. I'm pretty sure, that's unfortunately not the end of the story, but at least a positive precedent. Kuzia (talk) 23:14, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey Trijnstel, thanks for adding the admins to the temporary admin section of Meta:Administrators, I overlooked that. Thehelpfulone 20:23, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Why

Why is my IP blocked from editing articles? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.249.166.104 (talk) 12:09, 11 February 2013‎

Hi. Just a note a posteriori: becoming an admin on it.wiki is not really my thing, I've always enjoyed working within small wikis and globally. I act there just as patroller. I was asked to become one formerly, I refused though. I completely understand if sock issue may affect your vote, that's why I withdrew. Meta works without me around the same. Thanks for understanding. --Frigotoni ...i'm here; 13:45, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Frigotoni. I wondered about that (not being an admin on it.wiki) because the Italian Wikipedia is your homewiki and the one on which you have the most edits of all (> 15,000). I figured that the sockpuppet affaire was debit of that and while I certainly trust you with the global buttons, I feel it's important to be an admin on a bigger wiki to become one on meta too. But that's my personal opinion of course and I wouldn't have withdrawn just because of one vote ... ;) Anyway, thanks for helping cross-wiki! Hi Дагиров Умар. ce:File:Wiki.png is the main logo of cewiki, thus can't be unprotected. Same for ce:Template:Коьрта агlона лакхен борз as it's used on the main page (Ruslik0 unprotected it, but personally I wouldn't have done it). ce:MediaWiki:Common.css is a MediaWiki page so therefore it's even technically impossible to unprotect it, + I don't see why I have to change the logo into ce:File:Wikipedi.png; the other file is good enough imho. Could you please explain to me why? With regards, Trijnsteltalk 21:42, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi. What is written on this logo can not read not one Chechen as we have in the schools used Cyrillic is not my personal decision, we discussed this with the active participant and have decided to change the logo as Nuno change word Википедийа yf Википеди. -- Дагиров Умар (talk) 16:11, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fundraising translation feedback

Hey Trijnstel,

I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback for Dutch using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Many Thanks

#wikimedia-privacy / #wikimedia-checkuser access request

Hi Trijnstel. Should we use Steward request page as discussion page? There is already request for comment here ,therefore i moved comments there and it was an internal issue. We discussed, but Mirzali and Takabeg didnt really disscussed there. They just use political words to change the topic.--Gomada (talk) 09:50, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

(after ec) Maybe, but you requested the removal of the rights of Mirzali, thus it's not up to you to remove his (and someone else's) comment on SRP. Trijnsteltalk 09:57, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
i understand, but there was such a conflict before. Therefore, i thought it will not be good to start disscuss there. But as you want.--Gomada (talk) 10:11, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Block of 79.141.161.13

It wasn't warned... PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:47, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

He sure was. You said yourself on his user talk page: "It's OK to discuss the issue on cawiki, open an RfC, etc., just don't vandalize." And I repeatedly reverted his edits, with an explanation! Besides, it's only a 1-day block. He's still able to edit his user talk page and I never heard a thing of him. With regards, Trijnsteltalk 08:43, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I'm interested in applying for the sysop toolkit here since the tools would be helpful (I often tag pages for deletion and it's a bit frustrating having to ask someone else to add a link to the spam blacklist), but I need to know if there are other requirements beside those listed in the requests page and if I should wait more before requesting. I'm afraid there will be people opposing saying my activity here is too recent or that I'm not trusted. I'd like to know your opinion. Best regards, Defender (talk) 02:49, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Defender. Personally I think it's too soon. You're surely trused, but you don't have many deleted contribs & only 5 edits on Talk:Spam blacklist. Trijnsteltalk 16:32, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
My RFA is probably a good one to look at - some people require a lot of deleted contributions before they will support, but others will support solely based on trust. How much fall into each category is hard to tell in advance. --Rschen7754 17:54, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Trinjstel, when I'm going to write a message, I was instructed to "Changing the settings to "no proxy" should immediately lift the block" by the notice. It still doesn't work (I'm still blocked). Morning277

Hi! The above editor is actually the master account of a large farm of sockpuppets/meatpuppets that represents http://www.wiki-pr.com, a large paid editing firm that has been editing the English Wikipedia for years with at least 1000 accounts. The SPI page is at w:en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Morning277, and my notes on the crosswiki editing are at User:Rschen7754/Reports/Morning277.

I am mentioning this because it appears that there are local edits on your home wiki, the Dutch Wikipedia, by either CU-confirmed or behaviorally confirmed accounts, that should be reviewed:

I have been told by the English Wikipedia CheckUsers that doing a CU has not always provided useful information, but if choose to do so and find any related accounts, we would appreciate the information. If you need CU data, User:WilliamH and User:Tiptoety have been working the cases at the English Wikipedia and at Commons, respectively.

Thanks!

Question About Cyrusbot

Hi Trijnstel, i am not sure if here is right place for this question. Since a few days i am getting "insufficien right to edit ... page" for my [| Cyrusbot] in Kurdish wiktionary. I am getting the same error for my real user [| Cyrus the virus] while doing bot actions. Is there any restriction or blocking for my bot actions. If so, if you can, could you please take it back. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.254.87.249 (talk) 17:56, 11 September 2013‎

Hi Cyrus the virus/88.254.87.249! Hmm, not sure, but it could be that you're facing a global block. If possible, can you give me the block message you're getting? If you can't, well, we could perform a CU but that's against the global CU policy I'm afraid. You can request a global IP block exempt on SRGP. With regards, Trijnsteltalk 21:58, 11 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am using DotNETWiki wrapper and getting "Insufficient rights to edit page [page_name]." exception. I tried from another computer, namely another IP, but no chance, i am getting same exception. It seems to not to be an IP blocking. How can perform CU user, i did nearly 200.000 edits with same bot there was no any restriction upt to now. Thanks. Cyrus the virus/--212.175.244.110 05:23, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, but "insufficient rights" sounds like you are using an IP address that's globally blocked (perhaps an open proxy). Trijnsteltalk 10:14, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, but, as I told, i tried from another computer, another IP but I got same exception. What do you suggest to do Cyrus the virus/--88.254.87.249 16:56, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
A colleague steward suggested it might be because of blacklists, but the two local lists are both empty... (maybe global ones?) Trijnsteltalk 18:24, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Which leaves two options: a block (which is still possible) or a page protection. Try editing another page maybe? Trijnsteltalk 18:26, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
No, I tried with so many pages, but it is not possible to do any changes.Cyrus the virus/ --88.254.87.249 19:23, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Then only one option is a left: a block (as I said). I guess you use a different IP address when you're doing bot actions (with AWB?). You may request a global IP block exemption on SRGP (and maybe local too, but I don't think that's needed). I don't see any other solution. Trijnsteltalk 19:54, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Croatian wikipedia

The following discussion is on hold.

Maybe you know meta discussion about croatian wikipedia (hr.wikipedia) and maybe not (Requests for comment/2013 issues on Croatian Wikipedia).

Short version is:

After 4 days of voting for checkuser investigation of croatian wikipedia users results is 32 for investigation and 13 votes against.

Because administrators and users from croatian wikipedia are saying that this is conspiracy of users from sh.wikipedia I have "removed" votes from users with home croatian or sr wikipedia. After removing that votes voting results is 24 for investigation and only 1 against.

Question is: Will you be willing to do look hr.wikipedia administrators today or when voting will end (there is no date) or never ?--Rjecina2 (talk) 01:48, 23 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Short version is:

  • 2) 2 croatian newspapers (3rd must popular and oldest) has attacked croatian wikipedia and Jimbo Wales has declared for newspapers that bosnian, croatian and serbian wikipedia need to be united in one wikipedia (sh wikipedia ?)

Your comment on Daytripperdiva's talk page was somewhat unclear. She told me by email that you deleted the content of her user page. That seems like a bit of a harsh welcome to a new contributor. Multiple usernames into a global username

  Resolved.

Hi, I need your guidance on merging multiple usernames. I was not aware of global accounts for Wikimedia projects and I was created 3 accounts for the Wikimedia projects as follows:

When I visited other Wikimedia projects, the username automatically created usernames. Therefore, I would like to merge all three usernames into one global username. --Anton017 (talk) 06:25, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Anton. It's technically not possible to merge user accounts, unfortunately. You can, however, request a rename for the accounts with the most edits to a new name and merge them into one. This should be a real new name, with no other accounts (you may check via sulutil:). I made a list for you with the largest accounts you have, + the number of edits (see below).
Username (@wiki) Registered Number of edits User rights SUL
Anton (@tawiki) 2011-11-15 11520 sysop sulutil:Anton
Anton 17 (@commons) 2011-11-18 869 - sulutil:Anton 17
Anton017 (@enwiki) 2011-11-16 572 - sulutil:Anton017
Anton017 (@wikidata) 2013-02-26 224 -
You can find the various request pages on Index of pages where renaming can be requested. If you need further help, do ask please. Regards, Trijnsteltalk 09:51, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your prompt and detailed reply. Can I request for merging after real new name changes on Index of pages where renaming can be requested or should I approach Wikimedia? --Anton017 (talk) 08:28, 5 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
I don't really get what you mean. You may request a rename on the various request pages (which can be found here). When the accounts are renamed to one name, you can merge them all together via Special:MergeAccount on the wiki where you are active. Fore example, if Anton@tawiki and Anton 17@commons are renamed, you can merge them together via the special page mergeaccount on tawiki or commons. If another one is renamed too, you can add those to the other two as well. Maybe the documention on Help:Unified login helps you a bit. Good luck! With regards, Trijnsteltalk 20:32, 5 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I was wondering that how to merge renamed usernames, and your answer gave me the guidance. Rename requests are on progress. Have a nice day! --Anton017 (talk) 06:36, 6 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Global IP range block

Hallo Trijnstel.

:) -- Edinwiki (talk) 12:54, 28 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Nogmaals dank. :) -- Edinwiki (talk) 14:47, 28 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Deferred to have another steward (Tegel?) or a German admin make a decision. See here and here for the related discussions. Trijnsteltalk 22:16, 13 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unblock User:BenSalo

Hi Trijnstel, I tried to edit Wikipedia from my home and found out that you blocked my IP... I really don't understand why, can you please help me? I always edit from my home and I never had any problems. How can we remove this block please? BenSalo (talk) 15:35, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi BenSalo. Could you please give me the block message so I can look into it? I need to know your IP etc. You can also email me if you wish. Trijnsteltalk 15:26, 20 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Trijnstel,
Thanks for your reply. Here is the block message I got:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason: Your IP address has been blocked on all wikis. The block was made by Trijnstel (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given is Open proxy: webhosting.

   Start of block: 16:05, 3 September 2013
   Expiry of block: 16:05, 3 September 2014

Your current IP address is 178.238.143.141. Please include all above details in any queries you make.

I appreciate your help to unblock me... BenSalo (talk) 15:46, 25 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I would advice you to first follow the instructions here to get rid of the open proxy. If it doesn't work, you may request an IP block exemption. Trijnsteltalk 18:56, 25 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proxy block. Why require it for logged in users?

Hi. It's really frustrating not being able to do any Wikipedia edits when using one of the "open proxies". Why is this trumping the account information? What does it matter what IP I use as long as I am logged in? Why don't you allow logged in users to edit pages from an "open proxy"? Arifve (talk) 06:46, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

See No open proxies. But let's ask another question: why do you need to use an open proxy anyway? Trijnsteltalk 18:39, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

SRCU

Hello. Could you please do me a favor and consider my request at SRCU? Almost 48 hours have passed but no responses were given. 4nn1l2 (talk) 17:50, 25 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

  Done. Trijnsteltalk 19:18, 25 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much. 4nn1l2 (talk) 19:25, 25 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for interrupting your privacy, but an administrator on Persian Wikipedia needs more technical information for long-term blocking the investigated user who is suspected to be engaged in an extensive sockpuppetry (of course the user is engaged in sockpupptry but the extent of their souckpupptry is still open to question). Is it possible for you to send the technical information for him privately just as you did here? 4nn1l2 (talk) 08:22, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, but that's not possible. I send some info to Huji as he's a member of the ombudsman commission and a former CU but I probably shouldn't have done that either. You should believe me when I say that the accounts you mentioned are all sockpuppets of eachother. I've checked it pretty thoroughly. Trijnsteltalk 17:19, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Stewardship

Hi Trijnstel,

so what exactly is the difference between a Wikipedian steward and a Chinese censor? Or to put it otherwise, as an Internet amateur, how do I know that you are what you claim to are? There's loads of ways to cantact you. And a nice scenery picture. Is that all? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.113.98.69 (talk) 00:46, 4 December 2013‎

Hi anonymous user. A Chinese censor receives payment from his or her government. A Wikimedia steward can't accept any payment but will receive weird comments from time to time.   I'm listed on the automatically generated list Special:GlobalUsers/steward though, so I'm fairly sure I'm a steward. Kind regards, Trijnsteltalk 15:35, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Request lock for commons

Hi Trijnstel, my account User:Mensham49 has been blocked on commons by: User:A.Savin and User:INeverCry. The message seys:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

Your user name or IP address has been blocked.

INeverCry blocked Mensham49 from 21:14, 3 December 2013 to infinite; the reason given was: Abusing multiple accounts: Deutz Kalker Bad et al.

Start of the block: 21:14 3 December 2013
   End of the block: infinite

Information for blocked users

To request a review of your block, either:

  • email INeverCry or another administrator (list). This option should work if a valid email address is specified in your account preferences, has been confirmed, and you are permitted to use it while blocked. Your current IP address is 62.196.45.123 and the block ID is #203758. Please include this information in your query.
  • add {{unblock|your reason for requesting an unblock here}} to your user talk page. Blocked users may edit their own user talk page, unless specifically disallowed from doing so, e.g., for incivility. If you are not logged in as a registered user, use the talk page for your IP address.

If the block reason seems irrelevant to your edits, you may have been affected by a software feature known as the autoblock. Contact an administrator (as above), who will attempt to remove the autoblock. If unsuccessful, you may have to wait 24 hours for the autoblock to expire.

Can you request a lock for it (because blocked infinitley will let me sign out from that account)?

Only for Commons.--Mensham49 (talk) 19:35, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Will do that. You can also email info-commons wikimedia org, but you are blocked due to sockpuppetry so I won't give you much chance tbh. Trijnsteltalk 22:31, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Welcome

Category:User nl

"werk" loopt nooit weg, ...it just slams you in the face... mvg. Lotje (talk) 06:50, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for the delay and I think you already followed up my advice, but please put those requests on SRUC and SR/SUL. Trijnsteltalk 18:44, 30 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Otherwise managed.  — billinghurst sDrewth 15:56, 22 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
@Billinghurst: this is user Wikigabriel11 and it's still only him using this IP address (see here) so I reinstated the block. And he's also still active with sockpuppets, see #Welcome above. Please talk to me next time instead of just unblocking this user. Thanks. Merry Christmas though and a Happy New Year... Regards, Trijnsteltalk 15:18, 23 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
So that's why I did that Commons block back in September. I couldn't remember who it was, so I just went with Billinghurst and unblocked it. Maybe I need more vitamin A in my diet. ;) INeverCry 18:51, 23 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
