Off-topic edit

Hello Daytripperdiva. A page you recently created was outside of Meta's scope and has been deleted or will be deleted soon; you might be looking for Wikipedia instead. In future, please remember that Meta exists for the documentation of the Wikimedia projects and that off-topic material is not accepted here. Thanks for your understanding. Trijnsteltalk 11:39, 30 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Trijnstel Can you say what page you're talking about? I'm a friend of User:Daytripperdiva and we've been working together on an Individual Engagement Grant here on Meta -- indeed, if you look at her contributions page on, all of her edits have been on this IEG proposal. Since Individual Engagement grants are a project of the wikimedia foundation that is run on Meta, this seems highly on topic! In general, it would be helpful to put links to any pages you're proposing should be deleted, so that people know what you're talking about... Regards, Arided (talk) 18:33, 30 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I meant indeed User:Daytripperdiva. It looked like a curriculum vitae or something like that and that's not where user pages are meant for. Trijnsteltalk 21:15, 30 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
User:Trijnstel I was trying to fill out what I thought was a profile page connected to my user name, using as a model other contributor pages I had seen. Is that page not meant for bio/profile? Here is text from the FAQ: "User pages are just as flexible as any other wiki page, and it's a page all about you, so generally people will leave you to freely write your user page in whatever format you like. It's a feature to help other people know who you are, and to bring the online community closer together. Think of it as a “profile” page. You might like to mention where you are from and what your job is. You can also state what your main areas of interest are in relation to the topic of the wiki, and describe contributions you have made or areas where you are interested in contributing."
(ec) Well, you can certainly write something about yourself, but it always needs to connected with Wikipedia. Talk about your experience with this project. When did you begin? What are your interests and/or your areas of interest? See en:Wikipedia:User pages on the English Wikipedia for more information. Regards, Trijnsteltalk 21:35, 30 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Trijnstel Okay, I see what you're saying. Since I was selected for the project on the basis of my experience in publishing and peeragogy, I thought listing my projects would be relevant. I'd also just started on the Wikimedia project a couple of days ago. When I post on my profile page again, I'll try to relate my experience to the Wiki project. But I would advise you not to be excessively rigid about these guidelines; and certainly query or flag the page and give the user a chance to make the appropriate changes before summarily deleting their content. User:Daytripperdiva
+1 - I never even got a chance to see the original content so I can't comment on it. User:Trijnstel the page you linked to does say if desired, limited autobiographical and personal content is OK. Arided (talk) 01:21, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
If you're curious, it was basically a list of jobs, like you would find in a CV/resumé. Maybe the deletion was a little harsh as Daytripperdiva has contributed constructively, but it was not related to Wikimedia at all (as far as I can tell). I personally don't find it overly problematic, but I can see how it was perceived as off-topic/potentially advertising, especially since the username is the name of a company or business. It definitely would be better with some information related to Wikimedia as well. PiRSquared17 (talk) 01:24, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm not fully behind it, but I decided to undelete the older versions of the user page so that you can see what I mean (and improve the page). Trijnsteltalk 09:26, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
User:Trijnstel Thanks, I restored the original text, and included the summary of on-wiki activities at the top. I think it's potentially worth noting that all of the items listed here have to do with community organizing and peer produced media (e.g. local access television) -- it's certainly not commercial advertising. On my own user page, I point out that I'm on the board of directors of a nonprofit that's only loosely connected with Wikimedia stuff; but it's relevant to understanding who I am. Anyway, I think after our edits, the page is more in line with what's expected! User:Daytripperdiva is a new user so let's give her a chance to make some more contributions and list them here :-) Arided (talk) 13:48, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Daytripperdiva (talk) 18:49, 1 October 2013 (UTC) All better! I'll work on it soon. Thanks so much!Reply

Useful tip edit

FYI, you can automatically sign each post to a discussion page by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end instead of typing out your username and making a link. :-) PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:00, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review edit

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,
