Your requests to Synchbot

Dear Ralgis,

I've just handled your request for settings changes. I was about to handle edit requests, and I noticed that you opened seven : one for your account and two for each of your three bots accounts.

Do you think it's really necessary to perform all these page creations ? Are you really using three global bots ? Not that I don't want to help you here, but if I start to mass creating useless user pages on wikis, I don't think that local communities will agree with it. Moreover, Pathos and me are offering this service to help others in their Wikimedia-related tasks, but the more requests we have to do, the more time we spend on it.

Hello, I see that you use AjaxPatrolLinks. I have good news for you: AJAX patrolling is now in core! On Wikimedia projects, it should arrive with MediaWiki 1.21wmf5, between 2012-11-26 and 2012-12-5. • There needs to be support for non-Spanish speakers, as Wikimedia is an international collaboration. There may be foreigners/expatriates resident in Costa Rica who do not have good Spanish skills. They should be able to participate in the project.

todas son pertenecen a mi archivo personal puesto que yo las recopile atreves de los años en diferentes viajes que e realizado para descubrir las raizes familiares y reencontrarme con mi familia, los escudos de la fundación son los mismos que el escudo familiar que data de 1790, yo participe en la edición junto con los diseñadores, el presidente de la fundación me otorgo los permisos necesarios para su utilización en wikipedia, esta ultima imagen yo mismo tome la foto en 1956 antes del fallecimiento de karl graf von luxburg y tambien fue objetada diciendo que no tengo derechos de autor siendo yo el unico propietario de la foto en cuention.

Revisando todo el caso, puedo comprobar los problemas existentes en tus imágenes:

1. Si eres coautor de ciertas imágenes, debes obtener el permiso de los otros autores para publicarla en Wikimedia Commons. Si esto es así, pero la imagen fue publicada en otro cibersitio (tal parece ser el caso de los escudos), entonces los titulares de derechos de autor de ese sitio deben enviar la autorización mediante OTRS.
2. Si los escudos son versiones mejoradas, se consideran obras derivadas. Para que una obra derivada se acepte, la obra original debe ser de dominio público o debe haber sido publicada bajo una licencia libre que permita a la obra derivada ser publicada bajo una licencia libre y compatible.
3. Si una imagen es muy antigua, esta podría encontrarse en el dominio público. Por otro lado, es muy probable que no seas el autor, por lo que no puedes atribuirte a ti mismo.
4. Las fotografías de baja resolución o sin metadatos pueden provocar duda respecto a tu autoría.
5. En la resolución llevada a cabo en Wikimedia Commons, se demostró que te atribuías la autoría de una imagen derivada o ya subida en el mismo proyecto por alguien más. Esto provoca que los demás editores duden de tu buena fe o de tu conocimiento sobre derechos de autor.
6. Finalmente, en Wikimedia Commons solo se acepta fotografías familiares si estas tienen un valor cultural o educativo muy amplio, lo cual tal vez quede demostrado mediante su inclusión en un artículo relevante de Wikipedia.

Cuando se ha generado tanta duda, lo ideal es que busques el medio de demostrar tus derechos sobre las imágenes. Un buen modo de hacerlo es mediante la interacción física con otro editor (uno que tenga experiencia y cuente con la confianza de la comunidad) y que este te abogue en tu intento de demostrar que las imágenes son de tu propiedad. --ralgis·/t/ 22:42, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

Request for feedback on my GSoC'14 proposal

Hi Ralgis,

I am planning to work on the project titled "Tools for mass migration of legacy translated wiki content" this summer under Google Summer of Code. I have drafted a proposal for the same over the past few weeks. This project is going to help the translation adminstrators like you in a great way, as it would completely automate the tedious manual task of preparing a page for translation and then importing the translations into the Translate extension. You can check the proposal page for detailed information on how I plan to accomplish this.

As you would be an end user of this tool, it would be great if you could go through the proposal and provide feedback/suggestions. Your feedback would definitely help me improve the proposal as well help in creating an even better tool. He creado recientemente la página sobre el encuentro Wikimedia Iberoamericano 2014 en Buenos Aires y notado que has efectuado correcciones a la misma. Gracias por tu aporte! Vemos que en la bajada de la foto de portada hay un link no creado en la palabra Buenos Aires (Special:MyLanguage/Iberocoop:Encuentro Wikimedia Iberoamericano 2014/Buenos Aires). Quería consultar si podrías aportarme información respecto de su función y cómo completarlo mejor, tal vez con alguna referencia.

Hola, Nicolás. Supongo que la confusión se debe al prefijo Special:MyLanguage . En los proyectos multilingües como Meta, donde muchas veces se realizan traducciones de las páginas (tal es el caso de «Encuentro Wikimedia Iberoamericano 2014»), al añadir este prefijo se enviará al lector a la versión del idioma que haya elegido como predeterminado. Por ejemplo, en mi caso he elegido al español, por lo que al hacer clic en Special:MyLanguage/Iberocoop:Encuentro Wikimedia Iberoamericano 2014 el sistema me envía directamente a Iberocoop:Encuentro Wikimedia Iberoamericano 2014/es . Así se garantiza que el lector verá la página en el idioma que prefiere si ha sido traducido a este. Si no hay traducciones, enlazará a la página misma, sin cambios, pero considero que enlazar previamente con Special:MyLanguage ayuda a adelantarse a posibles futuras traducciones, especialmente en el espacio de nombres Iberocoop, reservado para una iniciativa cuyos integrantes hablan distintos idiomas. ¡Saludos! As a Google Summer of Code Intern, I have been working on the Mass Migration tools project for Wikimedia. We are now ready with a minimal working product. The tool helps translators and translation administrators import the old translations into the Translate Extension.

An instance of the same has been set up on labs. You can find some useful instructions on the main page.

Please test the tool and report bugs/suggestions using the link provided on the main page itself. You can have a look at the tracking bug to check already reported bugs.

Affiliations Committee call for candidates - September 2014

The Affiliations Committee is looking for new members. The committee's work requires communication with volunteers all over the World, negotiating skills and cultural sensitivity and the ability to understand legal texts. We try to get a healthy mix of different skill sets in our members.

Members are usually selected every twelve months for staggered two-year terms. The applications will be voted on by the current members not seeking re-election, taking into account comments put forward by the committee's members, advisers, WMF staff and board liaisons based on the membership criteria. A final decision will be made by the end of October 2014, with new members expected to join on or around 1 November 2014.

Usa 'tu' en lugar de 'usted'

Tengo entendido que en los proyectos de MediaWiki se prefiere el tuteo. Además, existe otro locale (es-formal) para el 'usted'. Saludos.Macofe (talk) 00:07, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

@Macofe: La preferencia varía mucho entre los wikimedistas. En ocasiones me han reclamado tanto por el tuteo como por el ustedeo, y seguramente me reclamarían el voseo si lo llegase a utilizar. Sin embargo, mi principal influencia para utilizar el ustedeo son algunos manuales de traducción disponibles en línea, principalmente la Guía de traducción y estilo de LibreOffice en español y la Guía de estilo de los traductores de Ubuntu. Estas guías incluso han sido recomendadas para traducir en translatewiki.net, aunque no me queda claro si el tuteo o el ustedeo se utilizan de facto en las traducciones de MediaWiki. Personalmente me siento más cómodo con el ustedeo, pero tal vez sea necesario realizar una encuesta o incluso un consenso global para determinar cuál de ambas formas es la más apropiada para los proyectos Wikimedia.

Sobre el locale que mencionas, no me queda claro a qué te refieres. ¿Es parte de la extensión de traducción? No logro encontrarlo. Allan Aguilar (talk) 07:31, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

@Macofe: Estuve considerándolo y busqué el consejo de otros colegas wikimedistas, quienes me indicaron con buenos argumentos que en los mensajes directos a los editores y lectores es preferible tutear, así que tutearé de ahora en más. Allan Aguilar (talk) 16:56, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Fíjate aquí y aquí para discusiones y aquí para ver las estadísticas de traducción del locale es-formal (también existe en alemán el de-formal). Puedo entender que otros proyectos elijan el 'usted' si tienen que elegir una solo forma del castellano. Pero no veo que cuadre con el movimiento wikimedia, por lo menos mirando algunos mensajes para traducir. Coincido con buscar consenso. Requests for comments on Wikimedia user groups approval process and agreements

This is an update from the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. Translations are available.

The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee is requesting comments on the approval process and agreements for Wikimedia user groups.

Wikimedia user groups are groups of Wikimedia users who support and promote the Wikimedia projects in the offline world by organizing meetups and other projects. The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee's responsibilities include approval of new Wikimedia user groups.

The committee will seek community input until Friday, May 1, 2015. The committee will then review the community's input, and publish the new process and agreements on Meta-Wiki. The committee will again seek community input approximately six months after any changes are adopted to gauge effectiveness and if any additional changes are necessary.

Early invitation: join VisualEditor's 2015 Translathon

Hello!

You are invited to join the 2nd edition of the VisualEditor Translathon! It is a translation rally, focused on interface messages and help pages related to VisualEditor.

In order to participate, you need to sign up on the Translathon page. The top 3 contributors will each win a Wikipedia t-shirt of their choice from the Wikipedia store. Translations made between July 15th and July 19th (CDT time zone) qualify.

If you are attending Wikimania Mexico this year, you are also welcome to join a related sprint during the Hackathon in Workplace 1 - Don Américo, Thursday 16 July at 4:00 p.m (CDT) at the conference venue, so you can meet other fellow translators and get support if you need some.

Interface messages have the priority. You will need to create an account at translatewiki.net in order to work on them, if you don't have one. It is recommended to create the account ASAP, so that it can be manually confirmed in time.

The Wikimedia Foundation is beginning a new initiative called Community Capacity Development. In it, we have conducted some research about community capacities, and documented what we've learned in these pages we are now inviting you to consider translating.

We hope these pages can serve as a basis for very concrete conversation between WMF and specific communities about possible projects to build specific capacities in interested communities. The work is to be based on interest and mutual agreement, not on top-down dictates from WMF. That's why it's important these documents -- this page and the six sub-pages mentioned in the navigation bar at its top -- reach the different communities in their own language.
