Superprotect letter update

edit

Hi Krd,

Along with more hundreds of others, you recently signed Letter to Wikimedia Foundation: Superprotect and Media Viewer, which I wrote.

Today, we have 562 signatures here on Meta, and another 61 on change.org, for a total of 623 signatures. Volunteers have fully translated it into 16 languages, and begun other translations. This far exceeds my most optimistic hopes about how many might sign the letter -- I would have been pleased to gain 200 siguatures -- but new signatures continue to come.

I believe this is a significant moment for Wikimedia and Wikipedia. Very rarely have I seen large numbers of people from multiple language and project communities speak with a unified voice. As I understand it, we are unified in a desire for the Wikimedia Foundation to respect -- in actions, in addition to words -- the will of the community who has built the Wikimedia projects for the benefit of all humanity. I strongly believe it is possible to innovate and improve our software tools, together with the Wikimedia Foundation. But substantial changes are necessary in order for us to work together smoothly and productively. I believe this letter identifies important actions that will strongly support those changes.

Have you been discussing these issues in your local community? If so, I think we would all appreciate an update (on the letter's talk page) about how those discussions have gone, and what people are saying. If not, please be bold and start a discussoin on your Village Pump, or in any other venue your project uses -- and then leave a summary of what kind of response you get on the letter's talk page.

Finally, what do you think is the right time, and the right way, to deliver this letter? We could set a date, or establish a threshold of signatures. I have some ideas, but am open to suggestions.

Thank you for your engagement on this issue, and please stay in touch. -Pete F (talk) 18:31, 26 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Filedelinkerbot

edit

Hi Krd. I was pointed by -revi to contact you regarding this thread I've opened in our VP. We're doing file cleanup here at Meta, but once files are deleted, the red links stay in the pages until somebody manually removes them. I was wondering if you could be so kind to run your service in this project too. If yes, I think we all would be very happy. Currently the number of pages with red file links has 1,000+ pages. Thanks in advance for your answer and please allow me to send you seasonal greetings as well. Best regards, -- M\A 21:49, 23 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Unlink files on local deletion log, unlink files on Commons deletion log, or remove all file redlinks regardless of their origin (which is usually more then 1+2)? In which namespaces? --Krd 08:39, 24 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Krd. Thanks for your reply. For now I had in mind just parsing our local deletion log and then removing those links. However I also think that it'd be good if all red links could be removed regardless their origin. For files from commons, CommonsDelinker seems to be working for now here at Meta. Best regards. -- M\A 18:21, 24 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ok. As said at en:User talk:Krd#Filedelinkerbot, I'd like to rewrite some parts of the code first, which I hope to be done until end of January. --Krd 08:19, 27 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Summary: It has been request to run this bot for local unlinks at metawiki, kowiki and hewiki. Implementation sadly is delayed due to tasks of higher prio. I try to give it a start at metawiki within February 2015. --Krd 03:37, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

No problem with kowiki delayed, (local upload is restricted to uploaders and sysops only, and uploaders are chosen manually) but if possible please delink already-existing broken filelinks. — Revi 04:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
@-revi: I made some test edits, please verify at ko:특수:기여/Filedelinkerbot --Krd 15:13, 2 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
@ערן: hewiki is ready for testing, too. --Krd 18:05, 3 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Krd, thank you. Would it be possible to run it for a limited run (50 edits or 3 days) on hewiki? thanks, eranroz (talk) 19:19, 3 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
There are three options: a) local deletions b) commons deletions c) removing file redlinks regardless of their origin. Which shall be activated? --Krd 21:14, 3 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
For now only b. Thanks, eranroz (talk) 22:50, 3 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Activated now, please keep an eye on the bot's contributions. --Krd 22:54, 3 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Looks fine, please set editsummary to 봇: 존재하지 않는 파일 (filename) 삭제 and open a BRFA. Local crat will handle it soon. — regards, Revi 17:15, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I changed the edit summary now. Can I please ask you to create the BRFA for me? I cannot even read the letters, and I'm not sure I could handle it correctly. Thank you! --Krd 17:33, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

OTRS flag for Zache

edit

Hello, I noticed that User:Zache is not a member of the OTRS global group yet, although his name was deleted from the volunteering page. However User:Makele-90 who was deleted from the list at the same time got the flag. Zache didn't get approved or you just forget to request the flag for him? --Stryn (talk) 06:22, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Stryn. There are some other possibilities, e.g. he has been accepted but the acceptance process is not complete, or he has been accepted but doesn't have access to the permissions queues and doesn't need the global flag. For ANON reasons I'm not going to disclose which is the case here, but thank you for the reminder. --Krd 07:18, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Of course, thank you. Stryn (talk) 09:06, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that OTRS volunteers sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have been identified as an OTRS volunteer and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access. OTRS volunteers have a specific agreement available, if you have recently signed the general confidentiality agreement for another role (such as CheckUser or Oversight), you do not need to sign the general agreement again, but you will still need to sign the OTRS agreement.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain your OTRS access. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

Krd Hi , Sorry, I do not speak English and used a translator to write.

I guess I was confused with the signing of OTRS Users Confidentiality Agreement - Nonpublic Information and for some reason did not send.

Yesterday talk to GVarnum - WMF By explaining the problem and returned to phabricator, to try to verify finally I signed the document.

Now he says: You signed this document on Sun, Jan 3, 6:10 PM.

I apologize for any inconvenience caused but I had several tickets which had saved in tracking.

As your system Note withdraw me , you think I may request to activate again as OTRS agent . I appreciate your help very much.

Hello again, Krd. Aside from the OTRS mess, I wonder whether you can help me translate the below draft for de:Wikipedia:Projektdiskussion. I want to notify the community about the cross-wiki search results going live.

Hello, community of German Wikipedia. For notification, the search results from the following sister projects—Wikivoyage, Wikiversity, Wikinews, Wikibooks, Wikiquote, Wiktionary, Wikisource, and multimedia results from Wikimedia Commonsare now implemented and live. Simply type either "Deutschland" or "Berlin", and you'll see the results. Neither Wikispecies nor Wikidata is included at the moment, but including the search results from those projects are considered. Please feel free to share your thoughts. You may propose which sister project to include or exclude. Thank you.

OTRS graph

edit

Hi, https://tools.wmflabs.org/krdbot/otrs/info-small.png is very useful but I've never ever been able to find info-it, whose colour is to my eye practically identical to half a dozen others. Is there some easy way to make it more readable? I've looked for a way to make areas dashed/dotted in various ways but I didn't quickly find one. http://tools.medialab.sciences-po.fr/iwanthue/ for 38 colours seems to produce a better set than the current (when selecting "all colours"), could it be worth trying? --Nemo 19:53, 25 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have now changed the palette. Although it definitely looks ugly, perhaps its better readable this way. Another approach could be to split the graphs for the small info queues into two or three images. Whatever you suggest.--Krd 07:40, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hm yes, maybe better now but I'm not sure. Splitting the graph in three is definitely the best solution, because making 38 colours distinguishable is an almost impossible task (up to 8 it's easy; around 20, most systems give up). But I don't want to add to your maintenance burden! --Nemo 09:04, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I will revert the change and split the graphs (actually create additional split graphs) as soon as possible. May take some days due to holiday. --Krd 21:21, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, Krd! You now have the rights of an administrator on Meta-Wiki. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-adminconnect. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta. Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List of administrators and the Template:List of administrators. You're also allowed to subscribe the metawiki admins private mailing list (to confirm your subscription please email me using the Special:EmailUser function). Again, congratulations and welcome to the team. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:46, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Closing of OTRS account

edit

Hi! I was pinged twice here and saw no discussion on the issue. It's true I haven't been very active lately as an OTRS volunteer, so maybe it was for the best. But normally when people are pinged, one's input is welcome. Not here, it seems. And now I can't even access this linked page, as my OTRS account has been closed. That was a bit interesting.

Well, if my (infrequent) help isn't needed anymore, be it. That gives me more time for my other projects at svwp, cawp, WD and Commons. All the best.  --Paracel63 (talk) 12:46, 14 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear Paracel63, your account has been closed per OTRS/Activity policy at 11 Apr, and you have been pinged by e-mail at Mar 29 and Apr 2. --Krd 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
OK, I can see this archived page (still no active discussion). Those pinging e-mails must have got lost in the traffic. Now I leave all this behind me, as I've completely lost interest in the issue.--Paracel63 (talk) 12:59, 14 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thanks for the notice. In the current case this is a reference, which we require for Wikipedia articles. I don't see anything wrong with that, in case the reference supports the relevant article section. If I'm mistaken please advise. --Krd 06:04, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
The sole purpose of this account has been to add links to a commercial rafting guide, to eight different projects and counting. The obvious intent is to drive traffic to the site, or improve its search engine ranking. I don't know the local policy, but en:WP:REFSPAM is still spam. OTRS member caught as a meatpuppet of a global banned user

Greetings Krd,

Recently, this user here was recently blocked in pt.wiki (see here) because he admitted to do edits and not block socks of the global banned User:Quintinense. Following this block discussion, the community has decided to desysop him and, due the implications of an user doing "favors" to a globally banned user, I've requested the global block of his account.

For your knowledge

Hi Krd, I wanted to know how do we apply for autopatroller permissions on Meta? I'm a leading member of the Dehalvi Wikimedia User Group, and mainly edit on English Wikipedia where I'm an AfC, NPP and pending changes reviewer. Almost all my VPN's ip was blocked globally and it is really more difficult for me to edit Wikimedia projects. I am really sorry for abusing several accounts on the Simple Wikipedia. Global OTRS

edit

Why did you ask for my global OTRS to be removed? Atsme📞📧 09:36, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dear Atsme, your OTRS account has been closed today as you have been inactive on OTRS and didn't react to related reminder e-mails. --Krd 09:39, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
The Holidays, my work on en.WP, COVID have been distractions, but I do follow and participate on OTRS.en.l - I customarily watch my account, and while I may not be as active as others, I do contribute. This was not fair, and I want my permissions back because I do help at Commons when I can and check-in at my dashboard when I'm not snowed under at en.WP. I never received any reminder email. Where did you send them? Atsme📞📧 09:57, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I've answered by Wikimail. --Krd 10:07, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you originally used an old email address that should not appear anywhere on Meta, or Wikipedia globally. You had no business requesting that my OTRS permissions be removed. Please fix what you did. Atsme📞📧 10:20, 17 January 2021 (UTC) Adding - IOW, you originally sent to the wrong email address. 10:23, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sadly we have been unable to detect that your e-mail address on OTRS was no longer correct. Anyway the OTRS/Activity policy remains valid. Your complaint has been noted, and will be evaluated by an uninvolved OTRS admin. --Krd 10:54, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sadly, the failure to acknowledge my changed email address is not my fault, and I have been active - just not to your expectations. You wrongfully requested that my permissions be removed, and I have lodged a complaint against you. You were wrong. Atsme📞📧 11:21, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Atsme Is it possible to calm down a little, this discussion is getting a little heated. Calmly giving your points will help a lot. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:25, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Apologies, but it was not a pleasant thing for me to awaken to on a Sunday morning while doing my rounds online and being unable to login to my OTRS account. It's a sinking feeling, which is something I don't need in these troubled times of COVID and other stress related factors. Atsme📞📧 11:39, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Krd - what am I supposed to do now to fix what happened? Can you please provide a link or instructions? It was always my intention to remain active, and as I've explained, my lack of recent activity was partially due to the fact that our agent staffing is much better now and what used to be a perpetual backlog of unanswered tickets has dwindled. Given that the notice went to a non-current email address, I agree with Sphilbrick and believe the best option would be for OTRS to update my email address (but it appears that was recently done because I received an email from you) and start the clock over. Please advise. Atsme📞📧 14:07, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
As said above, your objection to the inactivity removal has already been presented to the group of OTRS admins for feedback and decision. I don't know anything that can be done from my side to speed this up. --Krd 14:35, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
    Ok, thank you. Atsme📞📧 19:33, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Hi, Krd - by any chance, were you able to correct the issue with my email address so that I can receive notices? I see that you removed my name from the list of volunteers on Feb 1st so does that indicate a decision by the OTRS admins to not restore my status? Atsme📞📧 13:35, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
You have been removed from OTRS as inactive per policy during routine process. What we are discussing is if reinstating is an option. I said above that I offer to leave this decision up to another OTRS admin, as I had the impression that you felt being treated in any unfair or out of policy way. Sadly there is no decision from any uninvolved admin yet, so there is no update here. --Krd 14:40, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your explanation. I'm just anxious to get back to work, especially now that I have some extra time on my hands to deal with tickets, although I've been pretty active on the permissions end of OTRS, licensing, copyvio, and helping users with uploads before they become tickets. I considered it a preventative measure to reduce the number of tickets that wind up at permissions/OTRS. Unfortunately, there's no way to document that type of work. All of this could have been avoided had I simply received your emails in the beginning. I would like to know for certain that the email address that OTRS has on file now is the correct one so that the same problem doesn't reoccur. I'm assuming that it has been changed because you sent me notice of removing that right. I just don't understand why the old address was used for the notices and did not update when I updated META, OTRS, the listservs, Commons, & en.WP; it's a head scratcher. Atsme📞📧 19:30, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Krd, you did the same thing to me last year after I had joined OTRS almost five years earlier in response to a request for help. Although I found the OTRS instructions sketchy and unclaimed tickets difficult to find (the same few clerks seemed to claim most of the tickets, which then seemed to languish in the queue), I would log in about once a month, search for an open ticket and answer it. I received only one email notification of "inactivity"; I logged into OTRS, but the next time I tried to log in the screen said that my account had been closed. I guess OTRS has plenty of help, because this is not how you retain volunteers; I certainly won't offer my services again. Miniapolis 19:37, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

OTRS AZ

edit

Hello Krd. We, as the Azerbaijani Wikipedia community, want to create an Azerbaijani-language branch of OTRS. Is this possible? When you search for "Azerbaijan" on OTRS, tickets related to the topic appear. I think these are some of the tickets, so if we look deeper, additional tickets may appear. Wikipedia is also frequently shared in the Azerbaijani segment of social networks. That is, people are looking for answers to their questions. As the Azerbaijani Wikipedia community, we want to have an official e-mail address. A consensus has been reached on the issue.--Turkmen talk 18:02, 3 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

We are of ccourse happy to create an e-mail address for this. --Krd 20:32, 3 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

My VRT account has been closed

edit

Hello. I received an email that I was unsubscribed from the VRT mailing list. I also cannot login to my VRT account (User:4nn1l2) because it "has been closed, most likely due to inactivity." I have been active as recent as 5 June 2021. I was also active in both mailing lists discussions and the VRT wiki itself. My SUL account still shows that I am a member of the team. I couldn't find anyone asking the removal of my access in Steward requests/Global permissions/2021-08 or Steward requests/Global permissions/2021-07 either. What has happened? Thanks 4nn1l2 (talk) 19:41, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dear 4nn1l2, this has been done on request of the WMF, related to Special:Diff/21925170. Please contact WMF legal for details. --Krd 06:38, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Just one more question: Do you require the VRT applicants to announce their country of residence when they apply to become VRT agents? 4nn1l2 (talk) 12:32, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
As far as I know, we don't. But it may happen that this will be required in the future. Please note that this is a sole WMF decision. I believe they have good reason, but I don't know the details. For anything further I suggest to ask them directly. --Krd 12:35, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Possible inactive VRT users

edit

There are two users, User:Tommyang and User:范, which is listed in Volunteer Response Team/Users, but not active on-wiki for several (about two) years. Are they still active in VRT? Are their NDA still valid (which may be affected by recent policy changes)?--GZWDer (talk) 15:28, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Good point. There are a few roles that are exempt the from VRT internal activity monitoring, because the related queues are in very good standing and it may be difficult for an agent to catch a ticket they can work on. But this of course leave some real inactivities undetected, so I will change this now accordingly. Thank you for the heads-up.
Of course I cannot make any public statement about NDA issues. --Krd 15:38, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Note 范 was formerly an OS but is desysoped and deoversighted in January 2017 (4 years ago). Also there are possibly much more users affected by policy change (see zh:Wikipedia:志愿者回复团队#名单, but I can not point out anyone that is surely living in Mainland China; many are mainland Chinese citizens living abroad). --GZWDer (talk) 15:56, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
The policy change enforcement is currently done by WMF directly. In this respect VRT admins are acting on their order only. --Krd 16:03, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Title blacklist

edit

Add the title "Facebook.comfavebook.comfacebook.com" to the title blacklist to prevent nonsense pages like the old deleted one with the title from being created. Thanks! --TylerMagee (talk) 21:27, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

The page has been created only once, do you have additional examples the qualify for a title blacklist entry? --Krd 08:27, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Here are some examples of why:
  1. The subject does not fit the topic of any Wikimedia project, including Meta, Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikibooks, Wikitionary, and MediaWiki.org.
  2. The title is used exclusively for libel and spam pages.
  3. It distrupts the Wikimedians and Wikipedians.
Also, indefinitely globally lock the IP or user that created the page and place {{Indefblocked}} on their talk page. I am usally not trying to troll you by placing a false block messqge on your talk - I used "nowiki", which disables wikitext.

I think the issue has already settled and no further action is required. If you disagree, please advise what I am missing. --Krd 09:20, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
You can create protect it instead. I will recreate the page with a creation protection request template and set the level to full to allow only admins to create it. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by TylerMagee (talk) 09:23, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

update

edit

Hi, Could you please update VRT list, and remove both Freedom's Falcon and Fjmustak. Thanks.--Faisal talk 20:58, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

The list will be updated once a month. Is there any special need for immediate action? --Krd 22:09, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, but they should have been removed a few months ago I guess, and that's just a reminder to remove them with the nearest update.--Faisal talk 10:59, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
The mentioned accounts are still VRTS users. --Krd 14:02, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Removing my VRT request

edit

Hello Krd,

I noticed that you have removed my VRT request without any mail justifying it. Can you please explain. --Contributers2020Talk to me here 13:11, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please check your e-mail. --Krd 13:14, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just mail at c2020wmc@gmail.com or tell on the talk page because I completely not understand why it was declined.--Contributers2020Talk to me here 13:33, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Inactive users

edit

Hello. Considering that this RfC is likely failed at this stage, could you please (if you want and have time of course) amend the script populating User:Krd/inactive users to use the current Meta:Administrators/Removal criteria? This is so I can prepare for the upcoming April 1, 2022 inactivity review. For clarify, this still affects administrators, bureaucrats, checkusers and oversighters. Interface administrators do have a bit different criteria. See Meta:Interface administrators §§ Activity requirements and Involuntary removal. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Stay safe and healthy. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:06, 15 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

That will take a few days, but think it should be possible until 1 April. --Krd 16:29, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Chances are still good that this will get finished in time, i.e. today. Will keep you updated in any case. --Krd 05:43, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
See: User:Krd/inactive admins Will be updated tomorrow morning and then every 6 months. Please double check for the first time. --Krd 11:19, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

About Your Bot

edit

In kowiki, Filedelinkerbot deleted some files that actually exist. Do you know why this happened? [5] (I'm sorry that I can't do english that well) Trusovafan (talk) 14:14, 5 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

The file was deleted and then uploaded again. No bot mistake as far as I see. --Krd 16:46, 5 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
