Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

We have not yet met the targeted goal. Though we have done some work of high significance; yet much work is left, but they are in continuance and about to be done shortly. Hence, considering the gravity of the work and the vast zones to be covered. Our performance by the end of one year is satisfactory and participants are on the spur to carry on the remaining works enthusiastically.

As per our project goals:

Project Metrics edit

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Wikisource 10 Celebration   Done The active participation of Bengali Wikisource community helped execute 7-month long proofreading contest and celebration event for Wikisource 10th Anniversary.

2 Workshops 3 Workshops Experienced Wikimedians were invited to be the resource persons of these workshops.

Learning edit

  • What worked well?
Events/Projects Remarks
Workshops
  • Highly experienced Wikimedians conducted workshops as resource persons ensuring quality of the events.
Wikipedia Takes
  • Experienced travel and heritage writers led the events ensuring photo-coverage of under-represented areas.
Wiki Explores
  • High enthusiasm, dedication and extreme passion to document heritage structures in remote and under-represented areas, which are in verge of destruction, made it possible to execute the Wiki Explores project under odd conditions. The sole explorations of SuvadipSanyal is worth mentioning.
Netherlands and the world
  • Good team work and coordination was the reason behind the success of the event.
Museum Documentation Program
  • The collections of State Archaeology Museum were photo-documented for the first time for Commons.

  • Beauracratic red-tapism and the institutional mentality to not releasing their collections for photography were the main obstacle to reciprocate the project in different museums.

  • As we have only one scanner, we had to decline a digitization offer from a library in Patna.
Meetups
  • The community lacked initiative to organize meetups and failed to search for meetup venues.
In general
  • Lack of man-power is one significant issue of which the events suffered.
  • What would you do differently next time?
  1. Wikidata items will have to be created at the earliest.
  2. One-to-one approach will be taken to guide the photo-documentation project leaders to create Wikipedia articles.
  3. The percentage of use of images contributed in Commons will be ensured.
  4. Nominations of images contributed in Commons for Valued Images and Quality Images will be increased.
  5. Number of participants will be tried to increase, thus strengthening man power in documentation related events.
  6. Phase by phase documentation of places of interest with a view to detailed documentation will be ensured.
  7. Motivating and inspiring and mentoring of locals by way of bringing them under the umbrella of Wikimedia movement so that they can document them respective places more easily and with better convenience.
