WikiForHumanRights 2024: Knowledge for a Sustainable Future
The aim of the #WikiForHumanRights campaign is to make sure that everyone has access to neutral, fact-based, and current information for a sustainable future that centers human rights, including topics like the Right to a Healthy Environment and other human rights.
To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we invite Wikimedia communities to create knowledge that documents: how can human rights knowledge help us create a sustainable future? To advocate for your rights, you need to know your rights, and to advocate for a future that respects to those rights, the public needs knowledge about the solutions for the issues at the center of each human rights challenge. The role of Wikipedia has never mattered more than now. Everyone everywhere needs access to information about human rights and how we create a sustainable future.
The campaign focuses on regional writing contests and community events that will highlight the issues that matter most for your context: some languages and contexts will focus on the same theme as previous years, such as the Right to a Healthy Environment, while others will expand to look at other sustainability topics in their local context.
توجہ میں موضوعات:
For 2024, we are encouraging Wikimedia communities to expand topics important to human rights in a sustainable future. To do this, organizers will need to identify the human rights central to sustainability issues in their context, such as sustainable agriculture and the right to food, sustainable construction and cities and the right to housing, and other human rights guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other human rights documents (such as the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights) that effect how we implement the Sustainable Development Goals and create a sustainable future for all.
If you want to create a topic list, we have created a guide on identifying your sustainable knowledge topic gaps.
In 2021–2023, we focused on the right to a healthy environment and the Triple Planetary Crises including: action on the climate crisis, environmental damage caused by pollution, and biodiversity and human rights. You can find previous topic lists here.
