re:Bcl.wikipedia

Hi Filipinayzd, there is no difference technically. If there is no local community which can hold a voting we don't give out permanent status because sysops are normally elected by the community, but to grant people to do the necessary duties also on smaller or newly growing projects we can grant temporary status. It does not matter who proposed the project in the first place. As said it is in fact the same, the only difference: temporary status is just a quality check, shortly before the status expires people can check back and let us know everything is still fine, the status will then be easily prolonged. Please feel free to hold a local voting as soon as the community grows.

Also please, if Ringer should be a sysop, he should know (if You let him know already just link us the discussion where he agrees).

Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 10:12, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fine with me, but I'm a bit clueless of the responsibilities of a sysop. Moreover, I am not so well-versed in the technical side of computers. But I guess things can be learned if one puts his heart to it? ----Ringer 8 July 2008

You need to be a sysop to be able to edit the MediaWiki-namespace, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 16:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

This vandal was going through a lot of wikis, best would have been if we had already global block, because we could only watch every page he added and then clean it behind him. I have added the links he added to spamblacklist temporarily but he then continued without links. I would block that IP for a short time, since it seems dynamic.
There is still the option for You and Ringer to apply for temporary sysopship, please don't be upset about this whole thing, I don't understand why all the problems and arguing, this is running quite good and other people do very well with it. It would be unfair to grant You permanent status now, please think about it, sysops are voted by the community, if the latter is too small, then people get only temporary status, but we are unbureaucratic in prolonging this...
I very much doubt other stewards see it different, thus the request is still untouched, best regards, --geimfyglið :^╡ 10:57, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

re:From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello Filipinayzd, You need to add that to bcl:MediaWiki:Tagline and to bcl:MediaWiki:Monobook.css:

 /* Display "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" */
 #siteSub {
     display: inline;
     font-size: 95%;
     font-weight: normal;
}

Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 18:59, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

You need to add the text "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" to Mediawiki:tagline and
 /* Display "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" */
 #siteSub {

     font-size: 95%;

re:box

Hello, You are using a class in the template "infobox vcard vevent" that is not defined in the common.css, where did You copy the template from? You can look at their css and copy the required styles. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 08:18, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, as said, the css-class infobox in the templates is not defined, try copying this to bcl:MediaWiki:Common.css, it is the infobox layout from en.wiki en:MediaWiki:Common.css. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 07:04, 5 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

We could greatly use your help doing some quick translations for the SecurePoll (voting) interface that will be used for this years Board and FDC elections. The translation consists of a short, 2 sentence, intro for the vote and 3 short 'titles' saying which vote or question they will be on. The page also lists the candidates for each election which do not need to be translated but can be transliterated if that makes sense for your language/script. Thank you! If you have any questions please feel free to ask on the Elections talk page.

Your help in bringing this information to different language communities has tremendous value: many people are timid about grants, and having to digest all this relatively-formal information in English makes it even more scary.

Your translations can help more Wikimedians apply for funding, and thereby enable more awesome work to take place around the world. Thank you for your valuable efforts!

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review

edit

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

(Opt-out Instructions) This message was sent by I JethroBT (WMF) (talk · contribs) through MediaWiki message delivery.

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

Hi there, thanks for your note. Bikol Central would be bcl.wikipedia.org, right? At this time, only the Wikipedias in the languages already listed are targeted by the Boost initiative. If you want though, I can let the Language team that bcl may be interested for the next wave? Thanks! --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 11:16, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yes it is for bcl.wikipedia.org project. We would love to be included in the next wave. Kindly save my translation for now. I will use it to translate Tagalog as Tagalog is not my first language. --Filipinayzd (talk) 11:20, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Despite the scary message, the system doesn't actually prevent the translation to be saved, or at least it didn't the last time I tried - it's just not visible and reachable from the template that lists all the languages. I have now added bcl anyway, and will tell the Language team about your request. Tagalog is already complete, by the way, and if you know anyone interested in that wiki, please let them know about the thread there. Thank you! --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 11:27, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please write an email to eric.luth@wikimedia.se, so we can coordinate around your prize!

To further show our appreciation of your efforts, we want to give you a barnstar for your participation – a praise of your efforts for a better visibility of women on Wikipedia!

We will also analyze the challenge and the way it works closely, to see how we can improve it for next year. It would be very valuable for us if you wanted to share your views on the challenge, especially when it comes to: the point system, the focus, and the adding of the list from UN Human Rights. Sunday February 21 Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network meeting

edit

We are a mosiac.

The Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network (SWAN) is a developing forum for all Wikimedia movement affiliates to share ideas on the Wikimedia 2030 strategy process. It expands on the model of the All-Affiliates Brand Meeting to help lay some of the groundwork for a future Global Council.

Following up on the August, September, October, November, and January SWAN meetings and June's All-Affiliates Brand Meeting, as well as strategic and outreach topics of mutual concern to all affiliates, this month we are meeting on Sunday February 21, and you are all invited to RSVP here.

To help set priorities for the SWAN agenda, and also to help manage which global conversations should be a focus in general, we have set up and invite everyone to participate at this SWAN priorities form.

Possible topics include Community Board seats, Interim Global Council, Strategy prioritization follow-up events, Branding, Universal Code of Conduct, Grant strategy, and WMF CEO search. That is a lot of things, which are most important to cover in our upcoming SWAN meeting?

Following the regular call, in SWAN after hours: Wikimedia Meet Jitsi social event with brainstorming for possible Nano Charter ideas, plus any other topics.

Miraya Bicol Incubator

Maray na ga'bi saimo tabi! I am still a newbie here in editing articles, and I just recently saw your proposal for the incubator for Miraya Bicol. I want to learn this dialect, because this is my ethnic language and I was wondering if you have any resources for it?

Anyway, I wish to ask if there's a chance that the incubator will happen. Since, I want to contribute despite still learning the dialect, and I was hoping if there's already an active group you may have formed (that I really hope that I get to talk with so that I can be more fluent with the dialect.)

I have nothing else to say, but sorry if my grammar's horrible. 0p9jf (talk) 11:32, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Filipinayzd, this is Betty from Wikipedia Asian Month User Group. I've noticed that the Bikol Wikipedia's Fountain Tool for Wikipedia Asian Month doesn't work. Please go here and click "Create new" to establish a new Fountain Tool for use. Some instructions can be found here. If you need any assistances, please feel free to let me know. Thank you.
