User ZubacGleb

Hello! I am a sysop on ro.wiki and I noticed that you have placed a global lock on the account of ZubacGleb, mentioning "spambot" as the reason. Thanks for the contact, that is obviously an error on my behalf. I was working off a series of spambot account creations that pattern aligned through a short period of time. An account that originates in Europe and editing through an abused Canadian proxy through a methodology that has been exploited by spammers recently and pattern aligns is usually a really good indicator. Timeline activation on the Swahili Wikipedia

Hello, Billinghurst/2013! I need your help on our Wikipedia regarding the timeline which I barely copied it from the English Wikipedia to Swahili Wikipedia. Regrettably, it's not working on ours. Please check the sw:Bob_Marley_&_The_Wailers where you could be able to find the problem on Wanachama paragraphy. The timeline does not working the same as the en:Bob_Marley_&_The_Wailers#Members English one. I was wondering if you could provide some technical details or clearing out the trouble by yourself.

Your wiki would seem to not have mw:Extension:EasyTimeline installed, eg. as per Special:Version (compared with sw:Special:Version) You will need to seek the consensus of your wiki, and if the consensus is to install the extension, then to create a new bugzilla: request to have it done. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:07, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Wow, that was a fail. Don't answer questions late into the night. I have just repasted the text, and it works fine. [1]]. You will need to dig into mw:Extension:EasyTimeline to see if/how you can change the id of the components, or ask at the talk page of the extension. Please do the same in English article (see title) too: I only translated it today on Russian (the whole content - text, links etc.). I don't know is it (what you did) correct or not (I'm not expert in Wiki-rules :) ) - I'm only "translate machine" :)) Oh! I don't doubt the information, I just don't find the source is authoritative to be a reference. Just because someone mentions it doesn't make it an authority. We should find a credible source for the information, eg. Decca records, or someone is a noted expert and has written about the matter, the person who wrote the FB page has obviously got it from somewhere. The request, when I followed up in IRC was to oversight due to the nature of the statements, and as it was OS that was why I asked for review by your OS team to see whether that was overkill, though they were less than pleasant statements as I could see, and with legal aspects stated. Please ask someone with OS to review and undo/set as required. It was emergency measures, reacting in real-time across 3 wikis, so it may not be perfect. Re a clean edit, did I? presumably it would have only been one of mine, and it was a reversion. I can have a look if you like, though would prefer that it be part of the review by your OS. Thank you for the quick answer. I don't think it is necessary for our oversighters @svwiki to review :-). The versions I think are "clean" are the intermediate reverted versions from 05:12 and 05:35 (CET?) Another question though (not a biggie, just curiosity): The delete log says 4 versions hidden, but in the page history there are 6 versions striked over. Is this an effect of oversighting rather than hiding? Or what might be the cause of that? --MagnusA (talk) 12:33, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

A couple of strikes. At first I hid the first four, and while I was dealing with the IP addresses, the person came back for a second dip, so we had another two. I protected the article, and suppressed 1-4, and 5-6 in one go. So the deletions relate to a standard hide (revision delete) and the suppression relates to all of them. — billinghurst sDrewth 15:11, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Mate, just because we tick past an inconsequential number with zeroes, that celebrates that the community hasn't got its message correct. Woopee. There had been requests last year at talk:interwiki map to remove wikitravel: as its content is duplicative of a Wikimedia project, wikivoyage:. At the time, you'd indicted that there was a need to show that the prefix was not in use on the individual WMF wikis. Since then, the template which had been using this prefix was voted for deletion at w:Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2012_November_10#Template:Wikitravel and the offending links replaced using a 'bot. Looking at various languages, it would appear the prefix is not currently in use in article space and should be eligible for re-nomination for deletion. Someone was User_talk:Nemo_bis#Interwiki_to_wikitravel:; he did run these again tools:~nemobis/tmp/iwm/wikitravel-2013.txt and found a few hundred links on user: and talk pages. We had spambots operating from within the blocked IP range. I have removed the block on the range and you should now be right to edit.     • More results in the entity selector (that’s the thing that lets you select properties, items and so on) so you can add everything and not just the first few matches that are shown
  • We’re still working on the issue that sometimes editing of certain parts of items or properties isn’t possible. If you’re running into it try to reload the page and/or change the URL to the www. version or the non-www. version respectively.
  • Deployment on all other Wikipedias is currently planned for March 6 (a note to the Village Pumps of all affected projects will follow soon)

Same sort

Hello, I think I need your help, in case Kevin doesn't answer me (again): you mentioned "those contentious areas", and I strongly desire to know what areas they are, so that I can avoid them thoroughly, whether as an admin or not. Looking at the logs[14], I see that I'm being criticised for one (non-)deletion out of ~400, one protection out of 12 only (I hate protecting) and one pseudo-RfC out of N I closed (with generally positive response). There's no talk on the bulk of the work (not that I drown RC with tons of patrolling actions), of course, but that's normal; I don't think however that avoiding all non-routine tasks is the point being suggested. I would also not consider it fair to ask admins to leave colleagues alone in their tough decisions: a mistake I realised we must really be careful to avoid when we lost a wonderful steward as Kylu; and something we may also be seeing in action in these days, even with experienced Meta-Wiki users that don't feel entirely free to express their opinions because they have better things to do than risking being harassed by some "regulars" or being outed on some website.
In conclusion, I think I should promise (myself and others) to avoid 1) protections, 2) a subset of RfX that have some topic in common... but which topic? I seem to see some pattern, but I fear stating the wrong one (and being accused of insincere excuses and whatnot, as praxis); please help me identify it, because people are being very reticent and I'm getting tired with maieutics. We all have to find our own comfort space, and I don't feel comfortable saying aspects that you do are right or wrong, as we make decisions on the facts that we personally see and interpret at a point of time, though my opinion may agree or disagree with your opinion or your decision. So what follows is what I can say is what I do, or what I consider as a good practice.

If I have expressed an opinion, then I really really really try not to close/block/... it; if I had a strong opinion, then never. If it has to be closed/blocked/..., I pass it on, or seek out a collective opinion for closure, and the more public the better. If it doesn't, not my problem. If I am in doubt, I don't. Blocks, I simply never block an established editor without a personal notice to some effect (emergencies aside). Basic psychological theory has a heuristic that one bad act takes more than three good acts to recompense, and bad experiences/interactions are generally remember for longer. Here I see that you are being crucified for a handful of what others have considered bad acts among the hundreds of good, and now you are battling a perception. So it is not a battle of logic, but one of feeling. Personally I am learning (though not perfectly), that when I apologise, I just do that. I don't try to mitigate an apology with why I did something, some justification, I sense that people see that as a lessening of an apology. Of course, how one words an apology, or for what one apologises can differ from saying that all your actions were wrong. Don't have dumb arguments with argumentative idiots, they beat you for experience. Agree to disagree. If you think that there is compromise, then determine where you are getting grief, and let the community keep the grief. Re contentious that was a generic reference, not a specific reference but it relates to above, and it is the grey line, not a black one. Re hyenas and vultures, yes; it is a problematic issue, and one for which the community is going to have a few issues navigating properly and safely. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:31, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply, I've thought a bit on it.

Your point on (strong) opinions is a good one, and in principle I've always shared it. I'm trying to dig in my memory whether I ever had some strong opinion on some RfX I closed here on Meta, or on some admin action I made, and I couldn't remember any. So I've checked 8 RfCs I closed, and verified that I didn't bother at all about them. I've also read my protection log, and I found only one contentious protection: a proposal whose text I didn't care about, to the point that I'm accused of removing a text that I had inserted myself, speak of irony; however I did have a strong opinion on the two parties, i.e. that they needed to discuss first, and as I said I was wrong in using my tools to force them too. I've also checked my block log and I see my blocks have always been about some rampant dirty fight between two parties and that in each instance they ended up affecting both and making both unhappy... had I had strong opinions, my problem would be called bipolar disorder.

On apologies you're correct, but after all I've not seen anyone apologising. Sadly, I'm unable to lie and say that I've not thought deeply about things I did, when it's not true: probably my mistake is of insufficient wikipolitics and rhetoric, and when mediating between two gangs one should try to convince at least one that he's championing them, or – short of this – have both of them against him at the next turn. In the end, the strong opinion I have about such battles is that they're very boring and they make this wiki way less tidy than I'd like it to be... your advice on strong opinions convinces me that I should refrain from intervening, ignore the kindergarten (and those who criticise this wiki because of it) and let the parties exhaust each other, or some less bored sysop to do something.

Please Unblock me

Dear Billinghurst, I was blocked on Hindi wikipedia on 20-03-2013 and request you to please unblock me. I am writing to you because my talk page is also blocked and you are already familiar with my case to some extent.

Short description

You may also like to see this again

At present there are four administrators on Hindi Wiki. Two of them are dormant and the other two are super active and acting arbitrarily. A move for voting to recall Bill william compton, one of the super active admins is in progress for abuse of power. A majority of users have voted for the move. Only two users SeanZCampbell and Hunnjazal, the other superactive admin have voted against the move. In the meantime, a checkuser request revealed that SeanZCampbell is a sock puppet of user:Lovysinghal who was crucial in getting Bill William Compton and Hunnjazal elected as admin few months back. In the name of 'action', Hunnjazal blocks SeanZCampbell forever, blocks me for three months AND does not take any action against Lovysinghal. (But after some opoosition, after two days, blocks Lovysinghal for three months.)

I was blocked improperly

I feel that blocking me is in bad faith and a misuse of administrative tool by Hunnjazal because-

1) Leave everything apart, Hunnjazal himself writes on discussion page at 13:50, 19 March 2013 (UTC) - 'this is last warning' and blocks me at 04:13, 20 March 2013 (UTC) though I have NOT written a single word on Hindi wiki in after his 'last warning'. There was no discussion, no comments from any other person in this time period!. He forgot his own words in the changed situation.

2) As I have mentioned above, an important voting is in progress. This motion was moved by me. Hunnjazal is the only person opposing the motion (the other person opposing the motion was SeanZCampbel who was proved a puppet). By blocking, he wants to shut my mouth forcefully and frighten other users by this action.

3) In this case he is an 'involved admin' and he himself blocks me. This dispute was not related to discussion on any article or any policy matter. This 'personal allegation' and counter allegation arised during the debate on recalling Bill William Compton, an admin and close associate of Hunnnjazal for abuse of powers. From the very first day of this motion, Hunnjazal is a active party in this debate. He himself should not have used his admin powers to block me in this case.

4) The timing of the action against me shows that it was malafied. It was just after the checkuser confirmed that SeanZCampbell was a puppet of Lovysinghal. Lovysinghal is a close associate of Hunnjazal. When my initial request for checkuser was rejected, Hunnjazal issued a biting comment to me that the request was rejected because my intensions were bad. Hunnjazal was afraid that if I was not blocked, it would be very difficult to 'save' Lovysinghal and that would mean a great blow to their 'gang'. In fact blocking me was their 'facesaving' exercise.

5) Blocking me is a huge loss to Wikipedia. I am a Hindi wiki editor since 2006 and autopatrolled editor since 2007. I have contributed the maximum number of articles (made manually) on Hindi wiki. There are hardly 5 active editors on Hindi wiki.

Request

I appeal to be unblocked for I was blocked by Hunnjazal who clearly has conflict of interest with me as explained above. I also request to remove Hunnjazal from administratorship for acting improperly on a partisan way, using uncivil and biting language in the discussion, misuse of administrative tools and making misleading and half true statements in the discussions. -- अनुनाद सिंह (talk) 13:53, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

  • We’re currently carefully monitoring performance after the deployment of phase 2 on the first 11 Wikipedias. There seem to be a few small issues. As soon as they are resolved we'll deploy on English Wikipedia. All other Wikipedias are planned to follow very soon after that.

  • In addition to the above we have rolled out a new search box that suggests items. This should also make finding things on Wikidata a lot easier for you.
  • We’re making some progress with Internet Explorer 8 support but there are a lot of issues with it (some outside our control). It’s unclear at the moment how much we can improve it still without spending an unjustified amount of time on it. You can follow the progress at bugzilla:44228
  • Edits are now auto-confirmed for users with more than 50 edits and account age 4 days: bugzilla:46461

Blacklisting of alpao.com

Dear Billinghurst,

It seems that you blacklisted Alpao.com because of spamming. I added alpao.com as an external links of Adaptive optics in all languagues. I really felt that it might be interesting (and some of our competitor did the same). Sorry for that !

Could you please help me on my followings questions:

- could you please undo blacklisting of alpao.com for at least the company page that I am creating ?

- could I use alpao.com for an external link on Adaptive optics ? I think (I may be wrong) that it is in respect of Wikipedia:External links

I am comfortable removing the link from the blacklist, and I thank you for starting the conversation, it gets very difficult communicating about additions when they are by an IP address.

I do not believe that the straight external linking is appropriate for a general article about adaptive optics to the webpage of any commercial entity (your company or any other manufacturer). If the article had a manufacturing component, then I could see that if your site had authoritative text, that it could be linked to it as a reference. Be very aware of conflict of/vested interest, and each wiki will have an internal version of their guideline about such, eg. w:en:Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. The Wikipedias are pretty 'hot' on CoI, and in these cases our advice is to be more conservative, than more radical in an approach. I don't know where to request the "right to vanish" thing. So I just picked you, a steward. I'm requesting to vanish completely from English Wikipedia. Is it possible that in English Wikipedia, Trongphu will appear as it is not a register name? All related pages to my user name shall be deleted. I would like to continue contribute in other projects except English Wikipedia, it is the only project where I want to vanish. I'm a great contributor of Vietnamese Wikipedia and Wiktionary for many years (currently I'm a sysop at Wiktionary). However, due to culture differences and misunderstanding and my bad temper which led to my permanently ban on English Wikipedia. I admitted my fault of using bad language but well apparently they don't have mercy on me after I have been banned for over a year already. My contribution in Vietnamese community speaks for my words. I hope you will fulfill my request. I really don't see any reasons how it can hurt anyone. Invadibot

Hi, Billinghurst.

I've been noticed that you have blocked the bot for a week. The task "fixing links to Wikimedia projects and applying protocol-relative URLs" has been stopped, and I think the bot could be unblocked so it can continue fixing double redirects in this project (see its tasks scope).

There are many doubts about this topic, so I'm going to create a page in Invadibot's user space to define this task with more details. Unfortunately, I'm too busy, and I won't be able to finish it today (in any case, I will let you know when this happens).

Okay, I have released the block. With regard to task, I had previously left some notes against the bot request about the reasons why. The issue where it upset COIBot has been resolved, so that is no longer a concern. I am not sure that I can speak to it as part of an automated function as a 'binary spam prevention switch', all I can speak to is its usefulness as an information source as complementary and independent reference. However I have to use this IP to bypass the en:Great Firewall of China to edit on zhwiki and other wikis. Could you please change the block to anonymous only? Disabled User Rights on Hindi Wikipedia

Hello. After the consensus of RfC, regarding the user-rights on Hindi Wikipedia, some major changes were made on hi Wiki. But surprisingly, filemover and rollbacker rights were disabled. I actually reached an agreement with Administrators in es.wiki, en.wiki and it.wiki if Vituzzu actually told you about that, and as you said, I can totally guarantee you that I will never do the mistakes I did. AbuseFilter at de-WB

Hi, you added b:de:Special:AbuseFilter/14 two weeks ago. Normally, this filter is more comprehensive than b:de:Special:AbuseFilter/9. Nevertheless, some spams were not detected by filter 14, but by filter 9. Please, check entry 1117 and entry 1089. I am happy for you to add that component that caught your two spam to the filter that I put in place on request. As that it more likely to get false positives I am wary having that where I am not actively watching the filter. If you make that change, then please just make a specific note, and if I ever come and update the filter, I will know to readd that little component. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:14, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I checked the filter's content and found out that there's a little lack in the source code. One should look for an arbitrary count of characters (zero or more) between <br> and the tested variety of text:
"(<br>){2,}.*(here is my| and so on.
Additionally, I added .*\[?https?:// at the end of this part.

We weren't looking to catch all renditions of multiple usage of <br>, we were targeting for specific use of the characters that relate to the spam, plus once you identify two, that there is three or more is purely academic. The broader you make a rule, the more you can get in the way of false positives. We generally haven't had https used for spam, and it is less likely that it will be the case, spammers are interested in traffic.

Furthermore, I don't understand why you checked the option "abusefilter-edit-action-warn" as well as "abusefilter-edit-action-disallow". Is there any reason to send a double message? Primary, it's important to disallow, not to warn. -- Juetho (talk) 14:53, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

It was added in the developing process of the filter, we started with tag, then went to warn, then block. I kept it in the process in case there are legitimate users caught by the filter, so they have a slim opportunity to amend, and I have a chance to fix false positives. Beyond that it gives an indication on whether it is people trying legitimate edits, people spamming, or bots, and the persistence. So correct that it is not necessary, it is just for interest. It is a mediawiki (application) issue, not something peculiar to WP. In fact I have no idea upon what the diff engine is built. Are you worried about my "big definitive statements", but not Nemo's? I didn't say OR has never been blocked at Wikisource. I noticed a 1 day block from December 2010. But I also noticed his positive contributions. People can judge whether OR was "disruptive" by themselves, based on his edits. Often and often, blocks are only evidence of admin disruption. … and on some things we will disagree into the future. I strongly believe in the right of a "fair go". So for any person who is here for genuine reasons, I believe that I will agree with them more than I will disagree with them. So looking for common points, and remembering the genuine reasons for people being here (helps|reminds|prods) me to maintain balance. Internal note to self: "It isn't all about me. People's opinions are more than allowed, they should be encouraged, whether I like them or not."

For us, we disagree on approach, we sometimes disagree on the vehicle or the destination, though we passionately agree on the principles of the provision of free information. So I think that we would both rather see our passions harnessed for the good of the principle or a project, though we probably shouldn't be working together. About Wikisource - when I listed people with Poetlister, it was more to get accurate information on who did what than necessarily saying this person was completely responsible. I've been stalked by that guy on many, many of his names, and there are two accounts floating around that I am pretty sure are still his. It is not you, nor your IP address. The issue is your provider which has spambots operating within the IP range and seemingly doing nothing about it. As you said: (there are) two unused accounts created on the same IP and other similarities, is that means that those accounts which are you checked are made from the same IP address and what exactly means other similarities. That user which is perhaps the same as user on en.wiki Ideabeach. I have no clue who to proof this, nor is my field of interest medieval history (on bs.wiki I rather writing about chemistry, geography etc.) but I have some clues that this person falsifying history making himself as descendant of Bosnian royal family (there is also private web page and facebook group but it's irrelevant to the subject). There were similar case back in February 2010 where user:Amsal@bs.wiki had battle at the same subject but then user:NJ.K.V. (as you said similar but not quit sock-puppet of nowadays user:Rtava) is blocked 'cause of other vandalism and inappropriate behavior. Following your question about a specific account, I have updated the CU commentary. It is a bit of a situation of chicken and egg to get increased CU surveillance,, however, if there are ongoing and specific issues of long term abuse (vandalism and suspected sockpuppetry), then in a language of your choice, we need to have written a lucid narrative of the issue. I feel that we are currently snapping at flies, which makes it hard to do checkuser, and to get stewards to start recording a case. At this stage, stewards are not maintaining cases of long term for bswiki, and that is probably due to that missing narrative, and once that is created then the stewards have the meta archives, and our private archives where non-public detailed data can be maintained. Hi Billinghurst. I would like to request that you record a case, since the user continues with disruptive editing on bs.wiki. In the following I can summarize a few details that might be usable. You stated that Ideabeach is another account that was used by the same person (or at least from the same IP address). Ideabeach was blocked for disruptive editing and personal attacks against various admins. He also used another sockpuppet Reaubilya which was also blocked for similar behavior, and if I remember correctly was also suspected to be a sockpuppet. It is no coincidence that all these accounts, including bs:User:Rtava, have vandalized the same (and/or similar) pages, mostly about en:Ban Borić (bs:Ban Borić) and topics related to the Bosnian royal family. If we look at the dates of the contributios we see that Reaubilya has started editing at 6th of October and was finally blocked around the 15th of October. Ideabeach started editing at June 22nd, and was blocked around 15th of october. It is no surprise that on the 17th of October the user started editing with a new account Rtava on the 17th of October, after receiving an indefinite block on en.wiki. From the edits we can also see many similarities if we look at the changes of the article Ban Borić: bs.wiki and en.wiki. These changes have been reverted on en.wiki because the user used original sources and the proposed changes did not receive any consensus. The same story applies for the articles on bs.wiki, including previously seen personal attacks on other users but also revert wars.

I personally see enough reasons for a block, but it would probably be better to do this globally but also to record a case so that this user can be identified more easily in the future. -- Edinwiki (talk) 09:29, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

If the user is problematic, then manage them, and ultimately block them, that is the process for dealing with problematic users, not restricting them by secondary means. My Global Account Issue

I'm a user of Arabic Wikipedia & others projects, my username was Azitony, few months ago I asked to Usurpate the username "علاء الدين" (Aladdin in Arabic), but two days ago I noticed that my username wasn't registered on Arabic Wikinews, so I checked my global account on Arabic Wikipedia and activated it, but I face a problem with Arabic Wikibooks and Arabic Wikisource as you can see here. The mentioned accounts doesn't belong to me and didn't make any changes.

I listed this issue in Arabic Wikipedia Village pump, and I've told that I should contact one of the hosts. and I selected you :).

There is no set in stone process, though for this situation it seems reasonable to progress by that means. For request where admins at a wiki requested the global block and at the wiki where you want to add the urls, I most definitely would want their feedback. In many cases we usually progress a removal request by getting a whitelist of the domain at the wiki of interest, in this case, engaging in discussion seems wiser. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:26, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

spamblacklist should really just be called urlblacklist as it is just used to manage problematic urls irrespective of their nature. Just that spam is the main issue so it apparently got naming rights. — billinghurst sDrewth 05:36, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Template:Tps .. I tend not to judge on things I blacklisted (independent review of my decisions?) unless it is very obvious (and for no-no cases of alleged copyright violations, I do want that second opinion) - I do comment on them, though. Assistance needed

Hello, I'm Marius, an administrator at WIKISPECIES. I need your help to resolve an issue which which is affecting us there. The problem is with https://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Stho002, who is also a Wikispecies administrator. He abuses his role in the following ways:

• He insults other contributors, and forces them to act according to his proper-devised rules. In general he makes lives miserable for those who disagree with his way. See [25] for an example.
• He proposes major controversial format changes, which are unaccepted by the user majority, and than proceeds to implement them. See [26] for an example.
• He is making Wikispecies unbalanced by producing thousands of New-Zealand (his native country) categories with no justification.
• He monopolized Wikispecies, and acts as a dictator who makes the rules with no regard to others.
• He was blocked from editing in the English Wikipedia due to his conduct there.

As you know, Wikispecies is a low-volume wiki, and the administrators there are unactive or unwilling to confront Stho002's abuses. Please, can you look into this and help up overcome this major problem? Mariusm (talk) 07:08, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Wikispecies is a fully fledged community (27 admins, 12 'crats, +++) able to make its own determinations. The only means to progress this is via your community discussing matters put before it and having a negotiated decision. Such decisions could be to do noting, or there can be soft measures by imposing rules that the person is required to follow, to hard measures of a discussion around the user's ability to retain their admin bit, and to edit. Stewards have no authority to intervene in your community. In such a place, one can recommend that if such a discussion is started that it is not solely made with terms of a complaint, but also about the routes to a solution. To say that Wikispecies is "a fully fledged community" is a gross overreach. Of the 24 admins, 12 are inactive for a year or more, and 6 are not participating in the discussions at all. That leaves only 3 admins which is not adequate when an admin decides to force his way around. Fully fledged = admins and bureaucrats. Your community is the place for the discussion, it needs to be started and to be had. There is no individual nor group of people who can settle things down, that is the issue with independent communities; though if there are no 'crats active, and a discussion turned feral, ie. abuse of tools, etc. then one of the stewards may intervene. To note that there is no arbitrative role within WMF, nor at a crosswiki level, all such ArbComs are only at the largest wikis. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:06, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Commons delinker blocked

I blocked "commons delinker", because it's work is often very counterproductive in small wikipedias like the one written in Saterland frisian language. When files on wikimedia commons are deleted, we can look for the "dead" file links on one of the special pages to search for a good replacement for the deleted file. But if someone or something removes the dead link, the small community of the Saterland frisian wikipedia hasn't got the personal capacities to find the lack of illustration without measurable delay, so commons delinker (also it might be useful in larger Wikipedia projects) is nothing else than a pest for small ones. So it must be blocked.

I understand that there are minor matters with the CommonsDelinkers, however, I believe that you have the wrong approach as you are not looking sufficiently broadly at the operations. You can watch the the contributions of CDL at your local wiki stq:Special:Contributions/CommonsDelinker and work from there (that list is not long). Surely that has to be better than increasingly having red links which are next to impossible to manage. To me it does not add to a quality product for your WP. Global rollback is a right given to those who have demonstrated a cross-wiki spam involvement, usually through the Small Wiki Monitoring Team. Whether that is for you or not, I cannot say. Trademark and logo

Hi Billinghurst, the Hindi Wikipedia community has unanimously decided to change the spelling of encyclopaedia in Hindi, which currently is ज्ञानकोष, on Wikipedia. A user reckoned that कोष in ज्ञानकोष implies a treasure of material wealth, while कोश indicates a treasure of words. I proposed the change in spelling and everyone conceded. This would affect the Hindi Wikipedia logo and trademark (एक मुक्त ज्ञानकोष). What is the best place to request such changes? With regard to any implications, that would be best addressed to Philippe (WMF) (talk · contribs) and I would expect that he will delegate the next steps. With regard to the logo, just make the change, and upload with the appropriate licences so that WMF has the copyright. Global IP block exempt

Hi Billinghurst! I have seen your comment at the "Steward requests/Global permissions" page. Although I have IPBE on Chinese Wikipedia, I did not use it when not needed because when proxies are used the local sites are loaded slower and sometimes it's not very convenient. There were already some Chinese wikipedians granted global IP exemption, who have much less contributions than I have, but they did not face the same question you asked to me. I did not answer your question last time because you didn't explain what your specific concerns are, so I didn't know how to answer it. I thought your treatment was quite unfair and I still think it is. Could you tell me what is Global IP block exempt for? What is the policy???--Huangjinghai (talk) 06:03, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

There is no right to a global IP exemption, and you are not a heavy xwiki user that demonstrates the need. You have the right to ask local wikis for local IP exemption, so utilise that ability to request (as per my previous comment). — billinghurst sDrewth 07:57, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

The local administrators are not active at all, if I put a request there it will for sure be overlooked. I used to be active on more wikis, but since I changed my name on Chinese wikipedia, I could not change my name on smaller wikis such as Chinese Wikitionary until now, just because the administrators are all asleep. You said there is no right to Glabal IP exemption, but there are some users who have already be granted the global IP exemption, and their crosswiki activities are lower than mine. But you didn't say you have special concerns to them. I think it is extremely unfair, and I feel that I am discriminated. Why is it problematic? Sheesh, why do you think? Because the style stuff is not working for me (no box and transparency), and I am trying to work out what the heck is going on. That was the first place to start an investigation, as that is where the issue has been previously when there have been upgrades to nav pop-ups (bane of my life). I don't think that it is the import process, but it may be, or it may be that there has been an edit to the file. — billinghurst sDrewth 02:03, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

I have copied over the css, and that seems to have resolved my issue, though with caching it can be hard to tell, so I will leave it at that point for the while. Okay. It seems like importing would work, but of course the style should just be copied here manually if it doesn't. I didn't notice anything broken, however, so maybe it is a problem with bits.wikimedia.org or your own cache? Or maybe it only worked for me because of my cache... Strange either way. In September I voluntary left the project and asked the user Ruslik0 to take away my admin rights. Now I would like to return them, but I can't begin a new vote because of low activity of users on the project. How can I return my rights?
