Can we have a link from Actor Billing Page to a new page listing all the major actors that got billing like:

"Keifer Sutherland is the Designated Survivor" or "Sly Stalone is Rambo" etc.

Very few actors get this type of billing. Keifer just got it for his new show.

Open Proxies

Open proxies should not be blocked - what if someone wishes to contribute anonymously?

I don't know who this Vituzzu person is, but he has apparently assumed that VPN proxies - which I and millions of other Internet users employ to protect our privacy - are somehow a threat to Wikipedia. Calling a VPN endpoint a proxy isn't even technically correct, as it can only be access by authenticated paying customers of a particular VPN service. How sad that the Wikipedia organization has placed itself in the hands of petty despots like Vituzzu.

After around 750 contributions in Wikipedia in German language and a few in other languages I have been blocked by you. My contributions are always with the intention of improving wikipedia articles and I have uploaded several pictures improving the quality of many articles. I can not remeber over the years to act once as a vandal or that I have added spam to the articles that I have eddided. At two wikipedia sites I have created a profile and I am not really an anonymous person. There is actually no written policy against that, because when we discussed about that it was decided that would be better to solve it in mediawiki code than with a policy, so conclusion was that we usually kindly ask global rollbackers to stay out of our project if they are also regular users on our project for obvious reasons, and also all global rollbackers as admins of hr wiki who revert vandals sometimes like not only to revert, but also block the vandal IP in question or cross check other Wikimedia projects (something like global rollbackers already do, but with additional admin or CU tools it is more efficient this way). Hello and thank you for your various interventions against vandals on en.wikibooks recently. In case you notice that I've changed your local permissions there I'd thought I'd explain what I've done. We use the FlaggedRevs extension and your global group memberships don't give you the rights to review pages. This leads to the situation where you rollback a bad edit and the page remains requiring a reviewer to accept your revision. To fix this I've added you to the Reviewer group locally so in future any rollback will also get automatically reviewed. If you want the rights removed please let me know. ksh-Wikipedia needs your help

Hi Vituzzu, I am an administrator at ksh-Wikipedia. You helped us there yesterday by reversing vandalism. ksh-Wikipedia has this problem in the last couple of weeks. Plenty of pages are destroyed. This happens regularly and the contents of the pages is substituted by 1 sentence always containing the words "Harald Krichel". Is there a possebility to block saving this sentence? I don't know how to do this but maybe you can help us. ksh is just a small wikipedia and I can't watch edits around the clock. It would be kind of you to support us. But that user sockpuppets, and hewill keep changing his username and spamming my inbox here and at other wikis. I have to delete tens of emails from him whe he's at it. Its not just me but many other users who have been effected at English wikipedia in particular, inclusing RolandR, Nishidani, Nableezy,among others. He also vandalizes article pages we edit, and our user pages. I'm not sure I can enable my email again without having to waste time cleaning up after him as he comes back in new incarnations (people see to think he was Grawp at en.wiki, a serial abusive sosckpuppeter). Nuovo progetto

Ciao, scrivo a te in quanto secondo me, rivestendo il ruolo di steward e inoltre essendo di madrelingua italiana sei la persona più adatta ad ascoltarmi. Siccome io concentro il mio lavoro su roa-tara.wiki ma spesso seguo e sono presente anche su altre versioni di Wikipedia nelle varie lingue regionali italiane, più o meno conosco il loro andamento e i loro problemi, tra cui su tutti la mancanza di utenti, mancanza quindi della materia prima necessaria per lo sviluppo di un progetto. Spesso e volentieri la maggior parte di questi progetti contano solo pochi utenti realmente attivi (che non sono quelli contati nella pagina delle statistiche, ma quelli che contribuiscono costantemente da tempo al progetto). Le comunità di queste wiki sono composte da pochissime persone e questo comporta una serie di problemi derivati che non si hanno su altre wiki che presentano comunità più consistenti. L’esiguo numero di partecipanti è un deficit non da poco, ed è secondo me il primo ostacolo da superare per poter far fare un salto di qualità a questi progetti. Ho pensato quindi di creare sulla falsariga di progetti quali Slavopedia e Scanwiki un nuovo progetto chiamato "Wikitaly". Il progetto si prefiggerebbe di coordinare tutti i progetti esistenti della Wikimedia Foundation nelle lingue regionali parlate sul territorio italiano. Questo progetto ha come obiettivo, quindi, quello di unificare tutte le comunità dei progetti interessati, per favorire una maggiore cooperazione tra di esse e un più rapido sviluppo dei vari progetti tramite una pianificazione oculata degli obiettivi da raggiungere volta per volta. Provvederei personalmente a informare ogni singolo progetto interessato e a nominare un responsabile per ognuno di esso che possa fare da portavoce principale del proprio progetto. Essendo Meta-Wiki un sito che si pone come obiettivo di coordinare tutti i progetti Wikimedia, questo sarebbe il posto perfetto dove realizzare il progetto. Anche questo è vero, qualcuno potrebbe essere diffidente all'idea, temendo magari di vedere arrivare qualche "estraneo" a dettar legge nella propria wiki. So bene che solo chi lavora a un determinato progetto lo può conoscere a fondo, nei suoi difetti e nelle sue virtù, per questo il mio progetto seguirebbe lo stile "Unione Europea" dove c'è un'organismo centrale che controlla vari Paesi i quali però si governano e si gestiscono da soli. Gli utenti di ogni singole comunità potranno così stilare una lista di "cose da fare" e di determinati obiettivi da raggiungere nella propria wiki in piena autonomia, e il compito del mio progetto sarebbe quello di aiutarli nei loro intenti, concordando ogni azione, per migliorare ogni singola wiki. Most of the people who have wrote this rfc specifically came to mhr wiki to remove my adminship not because I was a bad admin. They were forced to do this by one person who dislikes me in real life. Probabilmente dovrebbe essere Wikimedia a segnalare gli spammer, io sono un soggetto terzo nella vicenda, potrei segnalare uno spammer che colpisse un mio sistema informativo, ma se lo spammer colpisce un sistema informativo di Wikimedia, la segnalazione dovrebbe essere di Wikimedia. Ti chiedo gentilmente di essere più cauto nel bloccare globalmente intere sottoreti di indirizzi IP, prediligendo il blocco di singoli indirizzi IP anche se dovessi notare che questi fanno parte di una stessa sottorete, in modo da limitare i danni collaterali (a maggior ragione quando il blocco è globale e vale per tutti i wiki di Wikimedia). Ho completato l'unione degli account. Per quanto riguarda la segnalazione al provider, io non ricevo alcun danno diretto, ma vengo danneggiato da una reazione di Wikimedia ad un problema che non sussiste tra me e lo spammer bensì tra Wikimedia e lo spammer, quindi dovrebbe essere innanzitutto Wikimedia ad inoltrare una segnalazione ai provider interessati ed alle autorità competenti, anche perché io non posso conoscere tutti gli indirizzi IP interessati mentre Wikimedia possiede i log completi. Per quanto riguarda il blocco degli indirizzi IP, nel caso specifico mi sembra di aver visto dalla cronologia dei blocchi che era stato bloccato prima un determinato indirizzo IP e successivamente un'intera sottorete alla quale esso apparteneva (presumibilmente perché lo spamming continuava ad essere perpetrato attraverso altri indirizzi IP appartenenti alla medesima sottorete), ma volendo tentare di limitare il più possibile i danni collaterali, forse si sarebbe potuto continuare a bloccare altri indirizzi IP singoli lasciando il blocco di un'intera sottorete come extrema ratio, anziché ricorrere a quest'ultimo così rapidamente. Ovviamente non posso conoscere tutti i dettagli dell'episodio, quindi mi sono semplicemente affidato ad una gentile richiesta di estrema cautela, a costo del fatto che potesse essere superflua. Understanding

I noticed on en:wiki that you said user's coming here need understanding of this place. I agree. I said so, both at en:wiki, and at meta, a week ago, and more. As I said then, I have been appalled at some of the behavior of en:wiki admins here, but also appalled at the behavior of some admins on Meta. You may have little control or influence on what they do, but you probably have some influence over what goes on around here and user's understanding of this place. As Sj has suggested elsewhere there is something wrong, here, if this site does not make process and policy clear to users. This is especially true since this is a communication and coordination site for multiple projects. In short, you admins, collectively and the entire community here (of which I am a part) is responsible for making Meta easy to understand. So, the purpose of this post is to suggest that being able to point users to clear policy would both help users understand and reduce stress and conflict for all. Hi, Why did you removed all crat flags as crat haven't ability to assign oversighter and CU user group. Range IP mio server privato (no open proxy) bloccato; impossibilità utilizzo account

Buonasera, l'altro giorno per motivi pratici ho incominciato ad utilizzare uno dei miei server (213.239.197.142, server1.vittgam.net) come server di desktop remoto con browser; provando a modificare Wikipedia da lì ho ricevuto il messaggio di IP range bloccato, anche dopo aver effettuato il login. Sono stato aggiunto al gruppo "IP block exempt" sulla Wikipedia inglese [9], ma non riesco a trovare una pagina di servizio/template per user talk page equivalente sulla Wikipedia italiana (o magari anche per tutti i Wikimedia Projects). Sulla pagina di edit c'era un link per scrivere una mail ma è bloccato anche quello (mi manda allo stesso errore dell'edit), quindi sto scrivendo qui. È possibile essere aggiunto al gruppo "IP block exempt" o equivalente sulla Wikipedia italiana? Grazie. Il mondo dello spettacolo ti fa arrivare facilmente dalle stelle alle stalle. E' quanto accaduto ultimamente all'attore messinese Lorenzo Crespi. Il protagonista delle serie Tv Gente di Mare, Carabinieri, Pompei e dopo aver interpretato vari ruoli in diversi film di successo, ultimamente le sue apparizioni sono state sempre più centellinate e ieri sera ha tentato il suicidio nella casa di S. Margherita a Messina.

Lorenzo, dopo aver bevuto sostanze alcoliche, ha ingerito barbiturici ed ha scritto un messaggio di addio sul social network Facebook, nel quale annunciava di volersi togliere la vita. I suoi amici che hanno letto sulla sua bacheca, hanno immediatamente lanciato l'allarme e si sono recati presso la sua abitazione. L'attore Messinese è stato trasportato d'urgenza presso il Policlinico Universitario di Messina, dove è stato sottoposto alle cure del caso per salvargli la vita.

Per fortuna i soccorsi sono giunti in tempo e l'attore messinese adesso è stato dimesso e si trova nuovamente nella sua abitazione con la madre. L'ultima sua apparizione in Tv risale al 2010. Fu chiamato a partecipare alla 6ª edizione di Ballando con le stelle, insieme alla ballerina Natalia Titova. Dopo alcune puntate entrò in conflitto con i giurati, poi con gli autori e i colleghi.

Non capisco per due motivi: 1) non sono attivissimo sulle pagine wiki, sono registrato dal 2010 ed ho sempre agito correttamente e quindi il blocco mi sembra decisamente fuori luogo, non me ne capacito; 2) a me risulta dal PC che il mio attuale indirizzo IP è 10.115.40.174 e quindi non capisco come possa bloccarmi.

Hi,

When i tried to made a change on commons with my (global) account (but over 2001:41d0:1:e332::10:2 ip address) i got the following warning message:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:
Your IP address has been blocked on all wikis.
The block was made by Vituzzu (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given is Open proxy: hosting on OVH.
   Start of block: 22:48, 5 July 2012
   Expiry of block: 22:48, 5 July 2015

But... Hosting on OVH services doesn't mean that all ip address are open-proxy. In that case, it's an ipv4to6 tunnel and the ::10.2 ip is attributed to a laptop over a VPN.

I also use a squid proxy on ipv4 only connections without VPN... but with an authentication. Goals are performance improvements and the possibility to have a "french ip address" for some services when i'm in another country.

Considering the warn message, i think that the current policy is to block all ip-ranges for hosting providers, but is it possible to unblock some address or range-in-range in this kind of case?

(If it could help to prove my goodwill, i'm admin on french wp chapter and i also use OVH services (on same ip ranges) to host some wp tools for vandalism spotting. But i never add a problem on french chapter caused by this block...). Creasy (talk) 17:57, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Good afternoon, Vituzzu! I'm following up on an unblock request from 204.93.60.20 on en.wiki. I noticed you blocked 204.93.32.0/19 today with the comment "Open proxy: hosting on nlayer". Is this in response to any abuse from the range 204.93.60.0 - 204.93.60.255? This range is assigned to GIGLINX, Inc. which is apparently providing a leased line for a library. If there's been no abuse from this range, would it be possible to unblock 204.93.60.0/24 (I'm admittedly unfamiliar with global blocks) or refine the nLayer block so it does not include this range? What do you expect the local community to do? There is strong evidence towards the following:

• Sysop access does not grant the right to indefinitely block long term contributors WITHOUT discussion of any kind. Local sysops came together and made a indef block decision without asking the community in a cabal like manner.
• Local sysops ignore any remarks local community and make it a point to block users for making remarks opposing their original block of Seksen. Three users were blocked over that with more shorter term blocks. As far as they are concerned this issue is closed despite the RFC.
• They did not even bother commenting on the meta thread knowing its existence. They have however blocked users over their remarks on meta. Hence many users are currently too afraid to comment on the meta thread.

Let's be honest here. Any one of these would result in desysoping. In my original stance I did not wish for mass desysoping. Increasingly I feel tr.wikipedia sysops are a threat to the very community they are supposed to serve. Their insistence of ignoring the meta RFC is inexcusable in my book.

Vituzzu, there's something weird about the status of this range. From the message above it seems that the local block wasn't actually lifted, nor did the local entry status say so. This is why I tried to unblock it once more. After I reverted my own erroneous action, the log still says the block was lifted and re-enabled (3 times in a row!) without the additional note that it has no local effect. Yet I can't lift the block, if there's any, because it keeps telling me that this won't change its status. So has the block actually been disabled? Please, clarify the situation. I have tried whitelisting it, the problem is, there's no way to know if the range is on the ukwiki whitelist or not. If it is, then why doesn't it show the relevant message in the local options? Hi. I agree that this block is pretty annoying and I did recieve similar complains from another user. The message cited by A1 states that this account can not be created because of global block. Although I believe there can be some spam activity from this range, a /20 to /22 range normally is enough. At the moment you have blocked the large Ukrainian mobile and Internet operator (same as Wind in Italy, just to show the impact), particularly the range assigned to mobile users all over Ukraine. I don't see any use in block of such a wide range, you should better block a smaller range where this exact vandal is persisting, as several millions of mobile users in Ukraine are not vandals — NickK (talk) 18:57, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

I've just suscribed to the ADSL with the french compagny OVH and my IP is suspected to be an open proxy. My IP will be fix for the years I'm with OVH. How is it possible to unblock it?

Since when did OVH provide ADSL? If you have an account we can grant an exemption to it; if OVH does not mix ADSL and hosting IPs we can remove the block entirely.--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:27, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

I can't create an account here ; but as soon as I will be conected in an other IP I'will create it. OVH provide ADSL since (at least) a year ago for common people and perhabs more for pro [14]. Yes, you can get an exemption (the IPv4 ranges of OVH can be blocked under the same policy). Currently, we are unlikely to remove this block because we don't know if OVH places hosting and ADSL in the same ranges.--Jasper Deng (talk) 16:30, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

I've never understood why I got blocked after Cloj, the third party user "expert in the discussed field" that was asked about the subject, gave an answer in favor of my arguments on it.Wiki, and since, after you warned me, I didn't even edit articles related to the disputed subject.

I don't say that I wasn't wrong, but I just don't understand how I was blocked after I stopped editing these articles, after you told me to do so, nor why I'm the only one who was blocked after that while the other involved users weren't.

Btw, I would ask you, If you want, to unblock my account. Anyways, I'm not editing University-linked articles anymore, since I'm more interested by history related articles (my favourite occupation being drawing maps and schemes and share them on Commons).

Because I didn't even know that I was blocked (no warning, unexpected blocking, thought that it was just a problem related to the cited account : hacking or sth else) and I started then to use the (older) "lower case" username.

I just found this trying to make a remark within a discussion in German:

Two notes from my site: (i) The blocking did not start at june, 18. I wrote many remarks and corrections after that date, until yesterday (see my account). Blocking - GE corporate proxy

Hi Vituzzu. The IP address that I am editing from is for General Eelectric's (private) corporate proxy, through which all employee internet connections are routed (at least for Aviation). While the large number of people using this IP (in the thousands to hundreds of thousands) may cause it to appear a spammer, in reality it's just a very large block of people sharing an IP, some of whom who have obviously chosen to spam in the past. I do not feel that this is an appropriate reason to block the entire IP, as it is tantamount to blocking an entire ISP due to the bad behavior of a few users. If this were the intended policy of Wikipedia, then it seems that anonymous contributions should be disabled altogether (which they obviously aren't).

Actually is not only GE but the whole Cisco Scansafe service which can be used as a proxy. Unregistered editing is surely allowed but to me using an account to edit from scansafe is a reasonable trade-off. --Vituzzu (talk) 14:51, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Request for temporary unblock of a proxy IP and reasons justifying it

I would like to request to temporarly unblock this proxy IP (199.58.160.45) for a genuine and exceptional need. It is the first time I make such a request, since I can't publish any information related to my username or reveal my IP with this case, please let me know if this is not the proper procedure.

Who the heck are you, and why are you blocking so many people? Don't the copious entries above tell you you're doing something wrong?

Unfortunately the best we can offer you if you wish to edit from a VPN is to first disconnect, create an account, ensure that it's a global account, and request global IP block exemption at Steward requests/Global permissions. Otherwise, you probably can't edit from a VPN. If your webhost is a shared one, you probably shared this IP address with a spammer.

And for your information, Vituzzu is one of our stewards. We have a policy against open proxies, and many VPNs can act as if they were proxies; many are abused. --Jasper Deng (talk) 04:32, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

IP Blocking Issue

Hello, it has come to my attention now that, for reasons unknown to me, my IP address was blocked. The given reason was "Use of a Proxy", which does not make much sense, as I have not used a proxy do edit, or much less view articles in Wikipedia. Now, I have used a VPN to view pages, but never edit. I was unaware (and still unaware) that using a VPN to so much as look at articles is a violation of the rules here. My IP address has also changed somewhat from moving/adjusting settings in my router, but I do not think this should affect anything. Long-time active contributor blocked on suspected open proxy IP – WTF!!!

I am a bit lost, but is being logged in as a long-time active contributor not enough to override any IP blocks that may exist? I am currently on the road, and despite being logged in editing is being denied because the IP I am assigned right now is suspected to be an open proxy. Grazie, Vituzzu per le tue delucidazioni. Personalmente non ho dubbi che si tratti di un troll il cui scopo è quello di nuocere al progetto. Tuttavia non so' assolutamente come affrontare tali soggetti e come prevenirne le mosse, anche perché il tipo è dotato di buona dialettica che assorbe le forze della comunità. Ammetto che finora ho fatto sbagli. Al lounge di WV l'utente OrbiliusMagister è provvido di consigli teorici sul tema degli utenti problematici mentre a me serve subito un aiuto pratico, ovvero una persona di lingua italiana che sia esperto di troll e abile nel maneggiarli. Ti ringrazio per aver offerto la tua mediazione. Ciò che mi serve però non è un aiuto temporaneo ma un utente disposto a occuparsi del troll e che vigili costantemente sulle sue mosse. You probably have to get a global IP block exemption instead, which can be requested at Steward requests/Global permissions, unless it can be shown that your webhost also provides connectivity, like DSL. • Hi Vituzzu. I want to give you some information about this comment. Ozgurmulazimoglu was banned from Turkish Wikipedia for trolling, years ago. Then, he created joined that Wiki based website. Its community consists some of banned users from Turkish Wikipedia and as long as I understand it is something like national Turkish (or Turkey) Wikipedia. Anyway, some users tried to create that website's article on several Wikipedias, but then they nominated for deletion, and deleted. Then "some" users created the same article over and over again, and tried to add this website to some articles as a source. It's not a reliable source as you see, and community of Turkish Wikipedia decided to add it to spam list, of course. But these users kept saying that website's name in any discussion about the Turkish Wikipedia itself, and still keep saying that. That's the whole story. Not exactly. Seksen, Bermanya (as long as I know) and I think Ansiklopedika has problems, and it is not trying to be a neutral, global encyclopedia. It is trying to be like a national encyclopedia (I respect to that of course). These four blocked users doesn't have any relation about Ansiklopedika. But, like I said, everytime we discuss something about the Turkish Wikipedia itself, an "anonymous" user joins that discussion and says something about Ansiklopedika, which is happening again. There are no open proxies in 2001:1af8::/32. We have >10.000 customers with >50.0000 servers. Maybe one of them is an open proxy, but in this case you may contact appropriate abuse dept. We also host SIXXS tunnels to provide IPv6 connectivity to the ones which don't have it. Blocking the whole v6 range is just network terrorism and is acting against Wikipedia.

Re-block

I saw that yesterday expired my block but why did you re-block me when yesterday was the expiry date and why didn't you respond or say anything at my message I left on your talk page? And not to mention, regarding from our last discussion, I'd have to say, first of all, I will say when I was editing the article separation of powers, you had every right in deleting and blocking me, and I don't blame you. Second, you made an investigation regarding my four accounts and like I said again, I don't blame you. Third, you said that I left a message in your en.wiki pretending to be an IT-N and called my messages "trolling", when really, I just wanted to clear out a point and the least you could have done was to say you weren't interested. Fourth of all, You said Wikipedia is based on consensus while your statement saying that trolling, edit-warring, block evasions, sockpuppeting, nothing just your idea you're absolutely right. Seriously I took some minutes to talk to you in order to understand how far is your attitude from collaborative work and you failed to show me any ability to take part to a collaborative project. How am I trolling? I am trying to get you to listen that in my second edit, I talked to User: Marcopil64 when I went back to the article separation of powers and he didn't seem to have a problem with "Block evasion" since I talked to him about my editing (something I didn't do the first time in which was a mistake I did) and after our conversation, we came to an egreement and moved on! But how come you seem so tensely paranoid about me evading a block when all you did was to throw a bunch of excuses at me?? I've been browsing our AbuseFilter and I've seen it's quite bare-bones, just a filter by yourself! I can't investigate further because I've just been voted for admin, but our bureaucrat is out of reach, in a well deserved holidays, so I still lack the appropriate permissions. Vituzzu - I tried to make an edit yesterday and was informed that I was blocked by you. My IP address is 166.78.181.17, though it appears it may have gotten swept up in a range of IP addresses since the message said you blocked 166.78.238.94. My IP address is from my RackSpace server - so it would appear that maybe someone else's server triggered your block. Could you please unblock this - or at least make your block more specific to the open proxy in question? Blocking what would appear to be many thousands of IP Addresses from one of the US's largest server hosting company seems like a pretty brutal response to an open proxy, no?

Hi, I edit as "lamerc" and am being blocked when I try to edit from my work IP (presumably because it's a hosting company?). I'm not touching the hosting pages, I'm just a proofreader who wanders random entries and gets tics when she sees typos on the pages (and so jumps in and fixes them).

I won't touch the entry for Dreamhost (or any hosting company, internet providing company, etc.)-- promise.

Can I get the block lifted for my username so I can go back to being grammar OCD while at work? :)

I tried to upload a file to Commons and got an error that the IP 188.138.1.73 is locked because it is an open proxy. That is not true. The given IP is an wireless LAN of my hotel. You need dedicated access from the reception. The WLAN is not an open proxy in general but accessable only for hotel guests. Take serious consideration about banning Dreamhost's network

Dreamhost is just a hosting provider. It allow its customers to access its servers to serve websites. For convinces, it allowed its customers to logged in via SSH. Some users may use this functionality as a proxy, but this not a common case. I found you have banned Dreamhost's network to modify any page on wikipedia/wikisource. Maybe you should take serious consideration about this action -- if banning Dreamhost is reasonable, then all VPS providers and Cloud Computing service providers's network should be banned, Amazon, Google, Linode, Microsoft and so on. Edit warring over hr.wikipedia sitenotice

Just a few words regarding your comment in the steward's noticeboard page... (I didn't want to add my comments there, as they may be not strictly on topic.)

Using a sitenotice for internal processes would definitely be an overkill in en wiki, but not necessarily in hr wiki. There are less than 30 c. 150 editors with 5+ edits a month there (the last month was an outlier, obviously :) ), so it is paramount to get as wide an input as possible. Otherwise, admins could get elected with 5-6 or so "Support" votes. However, since off-wiki canvassing and campaigning is apparently also rather strong there, tampering with the site notice (e.g. removing it contrary to established practice) is a way to manipulate the vote by hiding it from the part of the community one wishes to exclude.

Also, when you said "hr.wiki seems to be about to have no more sysops" - is that your personal position or there are actually discussions or steps underway? GregorB (talk) 12:24, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

You're right, it's almost a 50-50 split, and the atmosphere is nasty. Judging by the en wiki standard (one I'm familiar with), hr wiki is dysfunctional in many aspects, and it's been going on for years. Now, the language barrier is a problem; this unfortunately means frustration for some Croatian Wikipedians who have a feeling WMF is sitting on its hands. cs.wiktionary de-sysopping Milda - beware of an OVERKiLL, pls

Hello Vituzzu, hereby I take the liberty of asking you to think twice before you take any hasty measures in the Chujan de Hovníkov-gate. If you wish I can provide you with the experience with Milda's sysopping that I have as a plain editor with no special rights. Briefly, the Czech mutation of Wiktionary is currently very short of editors and sysops. Milda is a good, disciplined and hard-working one. As far as I understand, sockpuppeting is an anathema - but consider this: this was the single case on Milda's part. Moreover, the contents of the page in question as I remember it were rather light-hearted, jocular, basically it boiled down to poking at Juan de Vojníkov's spelling blunders, no heavy insults as I take it, although I admit I am not in the Juan'dV's shoes. Furthermore, it had been classed as Kabinet kuriozit. I am no real insider, but apparently there is a good deal of animosity between JdV, Aktron and Egg on one part, and most of the currently philologically editing community on the other. Don't get manipulated by the formers, please. Consider also the comments made by Lenka64 alias Dubicko. They seem to have the point. I think that as long as Pyprilescu does not do anything bad and there is no real suspicion of abusing multiple accounts, no blanket checkusering should be done. And if you, Vituzzu, find it necessary to check some more people, please do not reveal the results unless you find some evil activities. I personally suspect one or two accounts of being new identity of old editors, who made some enemies and are trying for a clean start. To be honest - I agree with Vito's reverts. The messages added nothing to the discussions besides a weak insult over the user's attitude. Also while Meta is a multilingual community - places like SR* should be written in English in my personal opinion or at least match the discussion's language. Hello. My IP address is apparently blocked or banned by Wiki. I've contributed a few sentences and a few references to Wikipedia quite a while ago and from work. Nothing I wrote was the least bit controversial. I think it was about colleges in the US or some such. I can't even remember. My spelling is not great but I can't imagine being banned for a spelling error. I've never sent out spam. Can you let me know why I'd be banned. That is very odd.

That advice isn't very helpful, Goldenburg111, since the problem appears to be a global range block (see here). According to the block log, this IP address has been blocked because it's an open proxy and another IP address from the same range has been used for spamming. This account had created 555 user pages, one per wiki, with similar content, each consisting of a displayed single image hosted (and still hosted) on Commons, one of commons:Category:Photographs by Augusto De Luca. This was not spam and was not a spambot.[25] Whether or not it was disruptive is something not clear from policy. However, the global lock prevented the user from taking any steps, on-wiki, to communicate with the communities where he registered and created a user page.

User pages, generally, may be "promotional," within limits, see w:Wikipedia:User pages.

You also made a Title blacklist entry for these user pages.[26], and as amended. These title blacklist entries were not logged, as appears to be required. (that should be fixed).

The title blacklist was an appropriate way to stop possibly disruptive behavior, and, given it, the global lock was unnecessary. Please unlock.

The next day, March 26, you globally locked four more accounts with no recent activity. You claimed "spam-only accounts" for all. Besides being stale, that is clearly incorrect from an examination of their contributions. If you need evidence on that, let me know.

These users all had clean block logs, and no history of disruption, revert warring, or continuation of problem behavior after warning. In fact, Giulia D'Eboli, as the declared daughter of Augusto De Luca, had responded to a warning and stopped editing with respect to her father.

The global locks prevented any of the users who had created or worked on wikipedia or other pages relating to Augusto De Luca from commenting in deletion discussions. This could be actual harm to the projects, for it is likely that a photographer with De Luca's history (as to exhibitions and as to the highly notable people photographed), has been covered by reliable source, in print, going back pre-internet. These sources will not be findable through internet searches, but they are legitimate as reliable source for Wikipedia articles (at least on en.wiki). Those who might know these sources, or be motivated and able to find them, were literally locked out of the discussions.

The De Luca lock can be temporarily justified by a necessity to quickly stop what you believed to be disruption. The other locks had no such reason and appear to be contrary to what exists of policy around global locks, and outside of actual practice. Please unlock the additional accounts. While I do not believe there was any violation of privacy policy there, I do not need to keep that evidence on-wiki; however, while I generally have copies off-wiki, that particular page I do not have, and would thus need to recompile it. (Everything on the page would have come from public logs, so I can recompile it, it's simply extra work.) Would you mind emailing me the wikitext? If it has been suppressed, please let me know so that I can request a copy from an oversighter.

I am in communication with the real Daniele Santarelli, that is, the professor, the published author, and the managing editor of ereticopedia. Most of the IP that would have been listed on that page was not his. Some clearly was, and it can be distinguished. A few examples are possible, but unlikely.

I won't give out any information violating the privacy of any user. Meanwhile you must avoid defaming users as you are implicitly doing. Also you should asap stop posting posting private information here and at en.wikiversity even if the relevant legal responsibility are, anyway, yours. Just a note that I've looked into this as much as I can through logs and enwiki's SPI page, and can find no indication (behaviour or other) that User:Sghezza is a sockpuppet.
