Thank you for your support! edit

  Hello, Uncle Bash007:

We wanted to THANK YOU for expressing your support in our grant application to develop Web2Cit: Visual Editor for Citoid Web Translators and for volunteering to take part in the project. We have great news to share: our proposal has been approved!

In the following weeks, we will be processing some paperwork and refining our next steps for this project. We aim to give updates so you can follow the development of the project and you can understand when and how you can contribute!

But for now, we wanted to thank you and invite you to celebrate with us!

Both Diegodlh and myself are very thankful for your support. --Scann (talk) 12:39, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A big thank you for organizing #WikiForHumanRights! And please give us feedback! edit

Both UN Human Rights and the WMF team are really grateful. Initial data suggests that this year we doubled the volume of content created and grew the campaign in languages and geographies. This kind of activation only works when we have local-organizers doing targeted outreach to their communities.

We are still learning how to organize this campaign, would like your feedback. Please fill out this survey at: this google form.

We will use the summary of findings and recommendations from the survey for the report on the campaign and for designing next year’s campaign. Our hope is to support more decentralized events, potentially with less experienced organizers -- so we need your help understanding what worked, what didn’t and what kinds of preparation we need to help communities with next year.

Please note that the collected information in this survey will be treated as in WikiForHumanRights Organizer Feedback Privacy Statement.--MBakni (WMF) (talk) 19:18, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, you're welcome and thank you too.. Even though my project on wikiforhumanright was approved, but we are yet to carry out the project; due to the late approval till next month God willing.. So i will respond to the google form questions after the event if possible. Thank you

Translation notification: Template:InternetArchiveBot header edit

Hello Uncle Bash007,

You are receiving this notification because you signed up as a translator to Hausa and Arabic on Meta. The page Template:InternetArchiveBot header is available for translation. You can translate it here:

The InternetArchiveBot team has come up with a new header for its documentation and user pages designed to make important links as easy to find as possible. We use this header on the bot's global user page, and we have it set up to show the labels in your interface language, meaning that the labels will appear in Russian on Russian Wikipedia (unless you override the interface language).

In order for this feature to work, we need translations of those labels. There are only six labels:

  • About the Bot
  • Report Problem
  • Contact Us
  • Documentation
  • Configure
  • Disable Bot

If you know how to say those things in another language, you can help! And your work will make it easier for non-English speakers to use InternetArchiveBot.

Thank you to everyone who translated "Template:InternetArchiveBot header". The template is now available in 64 languages (including variants)! Now when people visit the bot's user page on those language wikis, they will be greeted with navigation options in their language. (We have since added one more link to the header – "Translate" – translations are appreciated!) This page I am requesting translations for is the "report problem" page for InternetArchiveBot, directing the user to different places depending on the kind of problem they are having. There are a total of 17 terms to translate, consisting of short phrases and sentences. This page is directly linked from the header on InternetArchiveBot's global user page, so your work will likely be seen.

Movement Charter Drafting Committee Candidacy - additional information edit

Dear Uncle Bash007,

I am reaching out to you in relation to the Movement Charter Drafting Committee candidacy. The main reason for writing this letter is related to ensuring that your profile will be well presented during the upcoming election and selection process.

Request in short:

  • Please send us information to strategy2030 wikimedia.org regarding your “main wiki project” and expertise by naming the project and choosing 3 areas of competency from the respective matrix. We kindly ask you to send this information by October 3, 2021.
  • Add your proposals for “election compass” statements and be prepared to answer a survey with the upvoted statements.

Main wiki edit

To ensure diversity of the Movement Charter Drafting Committee, there is a limitation in the election process that a maximum of 2 people from the same wiki project can be elected. As a result, we would kindly ask you to define your one main wiki project by writing to strategy2030 wikimedia.org

Expertise edit

In some discussions with the community members it has been highlighted that while it is easier to assess the diversity of the candidates, it is more difficult to understand the expertise and competencies they have. As a result, we would kindly ask you to reflect on this and choose up to 3 top competencies that you would bring to the committee from the 14 mentioned in the expertise matrix.

We kindly ask you to send your response to strategy2030@wikimedia.org and we will add it for you. The reason for this is that we are locking the page for translations and trying to avoid any editing conflicts. I hope it makes sense.

Voting compass edit

As you might have read on other channels, we are also setting up an election compass for people to navigate 73 candidacies for the committee. It works like this: You will see statements that we have asked the candidates to position themselves to (support, neutral, oppose; and some lines of reasoning). The tool asks you to position yourself to these statements. At the end, you will see who of the candidates is closest to you.

This will help to highlight your positioning regarding the key matters to be tackled in the Movement Charter and support people in making an informed decision in the election and selection process. You can consult and add your own thoughts on the statement collection page. If you want to understand what the tool will look like, see the prototype on Toolforge.

There is no action needed from you know, but we will come back to you with a survey in about 10 days time and would kindly ask you to fill it to be well presented in this compass. We truly believe that it is a good way to support people in making sense of all the nominations and hope you see it as an interesting and beneficial approach.

Closing and translating candidate statements edit

We are closing the candidate page on meta to manage the translations. As a result, no further edits to your statements can be made.

Thank you for your time and kind attention! --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 17:12, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for participating in Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month 2022! We are grateful for your willingness to share free knowledge about the people and culture of Ukraine when it is needed the most.

As promised, the organizers want to appreciate your contribution by awarding you a certificate of participation. Please wait for further notifications from me on that issue.

What comes to prizes: because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there could be delays in shipping, however, we will definitely get back soon with more information on that.

Take care and stay safe.--ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 14:41, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Acknowledging you weren't a winner in #WikiForHumanRights Challenge edit

Hey! I just wanted to acknowledge that you misreported the points as part of the WikiForHumanRights Challenge, reporting many more bytes than you actually added (for example with this article you reported 280,042 bytes, when you only added 9,445 in total), Astinson (WMF) (talk) 15:27, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Astinson (WMF), I must have misunderstood the point recording process, cuz I actually thought the points are to be summed up for every edit and if u could see, I sum up all the bytes in the edit history i.e. 9,445 + 9,253 +... I will make the correction and parheps I may not be the winner.Uncle Bash007 (talk) 07:02, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Overall winner in Write for the Rights Nigeria Contest 2022! edit

You get a Write for the Rights medal Barnstar from us, for your great contribution in the Write for the Rights Nigeria 2022 contest, and to the visibility of LGBT+ persons on Wikipedia.

Hi Uncle Bash007,

Now, we have finalized the results from the Write for the Rights Nigeria Contest. You can find the results here!

On behalf of the organizer and our partner: Bisi Alimi Foundation, I want to sincerely thank you for your contributions, which together with the other participants have created a tremendous and long lasting impact for the visibility of Nigerian LGBT+ persons on Wikipedia.

I also want to congratulate you for your "overall winner" place in the contest! The prize is a gift prize of a mini laptop. Please write an email to hadassahlove31@gmail.com, so we can coordinate around your prize!

To further show our appreciation of your efforts, we want to give you a barnstar for your participation – a praise of your efforts for a better visibility of LGBT+ topics on Wikipedia!

We will also analyze the challenge and the way it works closely, to see how we can improve it for next time. It would be very valuable for us if you wanted to share your views on the challenge, especially when it comes to: safety measures, the point system, the focus, and the adding of the article list. You can send your answers to the same email as above or the talk page!

I hope you found the contest exciting, and that you want to participate next time as well!

Best, Hadassahlove (talk) 01:04, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello User: Hadassahlove, I am pleased to see myself as the overall winner in this beautiful contest, I humbly accept with pleasure and of course I will gladly help in anyway I could in the near future.Uncle Bash007 (talk) 01:31, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello Hadassahlove,
I was wondering how I can create and award a Barnstar and awards it to a particular editor who did a tremendous work on. I am an administrator on Hausa Wikipedia and I think there are lot of people doing a great job over there that need to be motivated and thanked with a Barnstar. I can see it is a picture on commons. So that means I can design it, upload it to commons, then post it on a users timeline (as award) right?Uncle Bash007 (talk) 10:08, 8 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month 2023 Scorings edit

Hi, regarding the scorings of the Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month, I think you have redundant scorings in terms of article size and added bytes. If you have a translation you can only add points for articles size, added bytes are counted only if you contribute to an existing article (add text to an existing article). So in this regards I think most of the scores are miscalculated. It's not a big deal and it's only a contest but I think I should ask for corrections (please also consider examples and scorings of other users). Alperen (talk) 18:15, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @Alperen, thank you for the heads-up. I think the scoring system is somehow vague and I may misunderstood some of the concepts. Nevertheless, the reason why I add bytes added was because after I create new article via translator, I normally follow-up and make random corrections like adding databoxes, references, templates etc. that’s why I added those bytes added. However, if it still doesn’t count and seem redundant I’ll just go and remove them. Thank you Uncle Bash007 (talk) 10:59, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month! edit

Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference edit

Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is delivering the Queering Wikipedia 2023 Conference for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies, as a hybrid, bilingual and trans-local event. It is online on 12, 14 and 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT, with offline events at around 10 locations on 5 continents in the 5-day span as QW2023 Nodes.

The online program is delivered as a series of keynotes, panels, presentations, workshops, lightning talks and creative interventions, starting on Friday noon (UTC) with the first keynote of Dr Nishant Shah entitled: I spy, with my little AI — Wikiway as a means to disrupt the ‘dirty queer’ impulses of emergent AI platforms. Second keynote is at Sunday’s closure by Esra’a Al Shafei, Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice chair, entitled: Digital Public Spaces for Queer Communities.

If you have been an active Wikimedian or enthusiast, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please join us in advancing this thematic work. We encourage you to join online or in person with fellow Wikimedians if it is easy and safe to do so. Our working languages are English and Spanish, with possible local language support at sites of Nodes.

Registration for the online event is free and is open until Wednesday May 10th at 18:00 UTC, for safety protocol. Late event registration approval and event access denial is at the discretion of organizers.

More information, and registration details, may be found on Meta at QW2023

Thanks, from Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:56, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
