Thanks for your work in translations edit

Thanks for your work in the translations and you bit for the elections. Also, your prompt that my English vernacular may not be easily understood. I have done a little clarification. :-) billinghurst sDrewth 14:58, 1 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cambodia edit

I would love to help the Khmer Wikipedia

But as far as I know there is no easy translator as for other languages

How can we create articles in Khmer as you do ?

Perhaps it's a stupid question

I'm trying to learn Khmer and I'd love to help Cambodians

Global sysop edit

Hi MF-Warburg. Have you ever considered requesting global sysop rights? I think you could use it. Kind regards, Trijnstel 14:48, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Trijnstel. By coincidence, it was only today when I marked some pages for deletion that I thought I could request it. I have now made a request :) --MF-W 16:41, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

editor edit

Hei, MF-Warburg, sag mal. Sprache sei so reich an unterschiedlichen Vokabeln …)

--MF-W 18:18, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Danke edit

Moving the Main page in newly created wiki edit

Thanks for your work in the newly created Belarusian Wikisource. Do you know, is changing MediaWiki:Mainpage and moving the page is enough to rename the main page? The localization had a bad-styled title and it hadn't been fixed by the time. Wizardist (talk) 09:12, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, this should be sufficient. --MF-W 09:46, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Concerning pages importing, there are lots of pages (in main namespace), categories, Author: pages, etc. haven't been imported yet. Will they be imported soon? Wizardist (talk) 12:35, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have now imported more pages (all pages which were in a subcategory of oldwikisource:Category:Беларуская‎). Is it complete now? --MF-W 13:37, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure if it is. For instance, Дзяўчына is not yet imported to be:. Wizardist (talk) 15:40, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Got it. There was a redirect in oldwikisource. Is it all? Then thank you very much. Is it OK to contact you if any issues arise? Wizardist (talk) 17:03, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
I hope it's all now. Yes, it is of course okay to contact me if there are any issues :-) --MF-W 17:18, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bot header (2) edit

Hi! I've temporarily moved the "Bot-reported" heading back to the header subpage because Kimberley-nia Bot keeps moving the heading around like this. Is there any way to prevent the bot from moving the header, without having to move the heading to a subpage which breaks the section edit link at SRSD? (After my temporary fix, the section edit link points to [1], which is obviously wrong.) Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 07:53, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Of course this is possible. To clarify, Steward requests/Speedy deletions/Bot-reported should look the following way, correct?:
== Bot-reported requests ==
{{:Steward requests/Speedy deletions/Bot-reported/Header}}

* {{msd-link|ga.wikipedia|Vicipéid:Mobile Extension Feedback}}
*: crap - IRC user MF-Warburg 00:36, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

--MF-W 12:20, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's right. That way the explanation in the header would come after the heading, and the section edit link would point to the right place. Jafeluv (talk) 12:33, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
It should be fixed now (for historians: [https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Steward_requests/Speedy_deletions/Bot-reported&oldid=3735182 current diff after several attempts :) ) --MF-W 13:43, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Looks like it's working \o/ Thanks! Jafeluv (talk) 16:11, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

--MF-W 18:48, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Lieben Gruß, --Skipper Michael 23:08, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Global bans policy discussion edit

At Requests for comment/Global bans, where you have commented in support of Option 2, a third option has recently been implemented. The first two options did not prove a way for respondents to indicate that they oppose global bans entirely, i.e., that it is not possible to write a meaningful global bans policy that would attract their support. Option 3 is intended to provide that opportunity, and to aid in distinguishing between people who oppose the proposed policy because it requires improvements and those who oppose the proposed policy because no policy permitting global bans should be adopted.

Because the third section was added late by a respondent, it is possible that some people who responded early in the RFC have commented at option 2, but would really prefer to support option 3, or support both. If so, you may voluntarily choose to move your original comment or to or strikethrough your original comment and add new comments. This is a courtesy notice of the change, and there is no requirement that you take any action. WhatamIdoing (talk) 15:54, 13 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Die Übersetzungspriorität dieser Seite ist mittel.

Note: This time, the "Wikimedia Foundation highlights" section does not include the usual coverage of the most notable work of Foundation staff during that month. Instead, it contains a list of talks given by Foundation staff at Wikimania, summarizing their most important work the year over. It looks like a lot of text, but only the talk titles will need to be translated. The intention is that these titles alone can already give readers a good overview of what the Foundation is working on in general.

Technical help is requested ! edit

Mr. MF-Warburg I need your technical help for our Punjabi Wikipedia (pnb.wikipedia.org). 1. If you see this article Germany [13] in our language and reach at the bottom you will see lot of templates. See there is distance between two templates, how it can be reduced like in other languages and and how these templates can be collapsable. Please guide here (on your page) and step wise. Comments edit

What do you think about this comment? http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Dari_Persian#Discussion I will ask the translators their opinions. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:46, 11 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

It is surely a good idea to ask the translators if they think that their translations can be put on the Persian/Farsi Wikipedia (too). Concerning the comment itself, this is exactly what Gerard meant on the mailing list: As Dari and Farsi are very close to each other, we at the Language committee now need to decide whether they are separate enough to be able to get two separate Wikipedias. We are discussing this at the moment and will announce our decision (and reasons) on the request page, where everyone is invited to comment the request. So, this one comment does not necessarily mean that Dari is not eligible for a separate Wikipedia. --MF-W 01:11, 11 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Can you please help? edit

Hello and thanks for your help on the Language committee. This time please help regarding the following:

1. I use translatewiki for translating wiki and contributed much but there is a problem for a long time, "I'm unable to find a way to translate the namespace "wikipedia" which is done wrong on the pa.wiki and want to correct it but didn't found any way or place where to correct the translation. Please help."

2. One user wrongly spelled the translation of the namespace, "user"; I immediately fixed but much time passed and the wiki is still using the wrongly spelled.

Please help fixing both the problems or refer me to a better place or experienced user. Thanks a lot. --tari buttar [talk] 13:07, 20 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

  1. As you can see here, the Project (Wikipedia) namespace name is specific for every site, and can therefore not be translated in translatewiki.net. It is set in this configuration file ("wgMetaNamespace"). You can request changes to it through Bugzilla.
  2. This is difficult to answer for me, you best ask on translatewiki:Support. --MF-W 02:51, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help. I heard about bugzilla many times, please tell me these 3 things about bugzilla: is this a wiki project? can I use my existing (current) wiki account there or have to create new? And is there any charges or free like wiki? --tari buttar [talk] 11:31, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
It is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation to keep track of the bugs and feature requests for the MediaWiki software, but it is not a wiki itself. You have to create a new account, but it is free. You can read more about it on mediawikiwiki:Bugzilla. --MF-W 14:42, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again, MF-W.   --tari buttar [talk] 14:05, 22 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

To check universally edit

Hello again. Hope you're doing well. Please help, I wanna change my username but before any request, I wanna check myself if the username I'm gonna request to have is available for me on every wiki. My English is not too good so here is the example what I'm asking exactly:

A page/place where I type a keyword, for example, "halo" and it checks the every wikimedia wiki avialable on the internet for the username and tells me wheater it's taken anywhere?

I mean one place from where I can search on every wikimedia wiki. Is this the best or you know any other better? Hope I succeed making you understand my point (plz prefer replying here). --tari buttar [talk] 12:00, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

sulinfo is what you are looking for :) --MF-W 14:35, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. It seems telling about the sul info only but what if the username I gonna request to have is taken on a particular wiki (not sul/global)? --tari buttar [talk] 02:31, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
It also shows unattached (non-SUL) account, see for example this: [16]. --MF-W 13:06, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
so if there is a single unattached one, should I not request to get that username as I'll not be provided, right or what? --tari buttar [talk] 13:45, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
If the unattached accounts have no contributions, you can try to get them usurped, but in general it is much better to choose a username that is not yet taken anywhere. --MF-W 14:23, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
And more likely finally, please tell me what to fill in the "domain" field of Template:SRUC when requesting the change globally? Is that "meta.wikimedia"? --tari buttar [talk] 01:02, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Tamazight language is Afro-Asiatic language under the branch of languages Such as Coptic And speaks in 9 African countries Amazigh namely Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Mauritania, northern Mali and northern Niger and northern Burkina Faso and as far west as Egypt Work has begun on making the Tamazight language standardized .

There are a lot of Berber dialects. I have a unified language Amazigh understood by everyone We demand of the Wikimedia Foundation create Wikipedia in language Amazigh Standard

Tifinaghes (talk) 15:35, 11 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

It is nevertheless not possible to continue on the old, rejected request. If you would like to request a Wikipedia in standarized Tamazight, i.e. something which is different from tzm (for that, go to Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Central Morocco Tamazight), please make a new request. But be aware that creating a new project might be very impossible if there is no valid iso code. --MF-W 20:38, 11 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Deletion request in German edit

Hi. There's a delete tag at User:Ludwig, Silvio, but I can't understand the reason very well :-) Could you please take a look? Thanks. Regards. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 22:05, 15 November 2012 (UTC) PS: this also probably needs closure as well. Regards.Reply

Well, surprisingly (or rather not :P), Tegel was faster than me. The reason meant something like "SUL unifies the accounts in all these projects, therefore I could do without this user page in the Wikimedia". Not exactly brilliant, but he requested this on other wikis as well, and it was done there too. - I will go on with the project closure requests in the next days. --MF-W 23:45, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Meta Wikivoyage page edit

Hi, I will be doing major clean up and updating on Wikivoyage page at Meta. I will move the outdated stuff that discusses the proposal to move to Mediawiki Foundation (now completed) to a subpage and do a navigation box listing the primary Meta Wikivoyage/subpages. I'm thinking this Meta Wikivoyage page will serve as the Wikivoyage community "home" at Meta where we can coordinate our various language versions of Wikivoyage. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks! --Rogerhc (talk) 21:17, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I was working on it. I need to collect a lot of stats. edit

Ok, then feel free to readd it to the table once you created the proposal page. --MF-W 00:35, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much. Can you protect my user page on SL Wikipedia also series of vandalism? --Kolega2357 (talk) 22:50, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

No, sl.wikipedia is not a wiki where global sysops have access. Please ask an sl.wikipedia sysop for that. --MF-W 22:52, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Logos edit

Hello, as you asked me about logos: for Wikipedias we have wmf:Wikimedia official marks/Word mark creation, for the rest almost nothing. Odder kindly volunteered to (progressively) create the about 100 logos we currently miss and for which we have the translations, see some instructions on his talk. Also, just yesterday saper said that he'll try to make a script to generate those logos, to limit manual intervention for the hard cases. The last logos uploaded by odder should give you good examples, tell me what else you need. Thanks, Nemo 18:01, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Basically I'm looking for something I can replace the extremely user-unfriendly incubator:Help:FAQ#How do we set our own logo? with. There has been made a suggestion on the talk page, but that still does not contain a real explanation how people can translate the logo. wmf:Wikimedia official marks/Word mark creation is indeed useful for Wikipedias. Is there maybe a page on Commons where users can request the creation of translated logos if they are unable to do it themselves? --MF-W 14:16, 24 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've updated the section there. It's better to use Commons, where some users with technical competence can also help upload or fix logos.
I doubt we'll find someone forever able to create all needed logos, so what we need now is 1) document logo specifications and instructions (already done for en.wiki, situation varies for other projects), 2) create a blue-print SVG for each project, so that it's easy to change the words with your own, 3) maybe help saper create a script for automatic creation (requires 1).
In the meanwhile I hope odder will manage to create more logos, including those needed by new wikis, but it's a lot of work so it would be easier if saper created the script or if you found someone else with SVG abilities. --Nemo 18:51, 24 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I've marked your edit for translation. --MF-W 14:17, 25 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Guestbook and Help for Non-Kapampangan Speakers DELETED? edit

Good morning, I am user Leeheonjin, the ambassador of Kapampangan Wikipedia. I do seldom visits on that page since I'm trying to add some more articles. And we know that some Wikipedia in other languages have their own guestbooks -- pages that guide the other Wikipedians who do not speak the language of the respective Wikipedia site. And what it is, I got alarmed when you deleted pam:Wikipedia:Guestbook and Help for Non-Kapampangan Speakers page. Please may I know the exact reason? I am also going to report this incident to Katimawan2005, one of the administrators of Kapampangan Wikipedia. I hope for your immediate response. Thanks and have a wonderful one! -- Lee Heon Jin 05:50 1 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry, this has been an oversight of mine: As you can see in the history, the page has several times been spammed & therefore marked for speedy deletion. I have now restored the page and reverted it to a non-spammed version from 2009. --MF-W 23:07, 30 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much for restoring it! I appreciate it! Lee Heon Jin 21:13 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Moin MF-Warburg!

Si you vides eso, you can see that this "period of activity" started in October & in the last two months there have been three users who have all been active reasonably on more or less the same level, as well as a number of users who made a smaller amount of edits (>100 vs. <10). I think the test can possible be approved if such the activity also keeps up in the next month (at least three months should be minimum, in my opinion, to prove that users will instead stay around). Additionally, the fact that the most used messages have been translated completely & that there has already been quite a high activity in the test project from June to September 2011 (I think maybe it should already have been approved back then) make it seem to me that this is indeed a good candidate for approval. --MF-W 20:46, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Verification of Livonian Wikipedia edit

I just read the Language Committee report that stated: "Still awaiting verification of the content for Wikipedia in Livonian." I wondered what this means. To be sure, I would like to know if there is anything the editing community is expected to do. I have so far assumed that verification is a function of the Langugage Committee and for the sake of avoiding conflicts of interest, the editing community is not concerned with this in any way. Is this so? Best regards. -- Ohpuu (talk) 10:51, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, indeed. The editing community does not need to bother with this. Langcom will do it. --MF-W 15:55, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
All right. Thank you for your kind reply. -- Ohpuu (talk) 13:11, 18 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
