Wikivoyage mobileEdit

Hi Roger. Thanks for your message - I tried to add the titles but I don't think it quite worked as expected. I'm not sure whether or not we should have the "Getting involved" box as it would be quite difficult at the moment to get involved on a mobile device, but I think it's something to do with the double columns as Jon said in his email. Do you think you'd be able to adjust the code, say at voy:Main Page/temp, then I could copy it across to the Main Page and see if it works? Best, Thehelpfulone 01:48, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Do you just want to use Special:Translate? πr2 (t • c) 00:53, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

I don't know what Special:Translate does. Does it do something fun? I was thinking the language code subpages of Wikivoyage could be where people involved in those language versions of Wikivoyage might put up a version of the Wikivoyage Meta "Homepage" in their respective language as some of them seem to have done. I was just putting an invitation to that effect on the various language subpages for which we have language versions of Wikivoyage, to help folks understand where they could put such a translation if they wont to. Is that still the state of the art here or do we have something newer and more fun? --Rogerhc (talk) 04:29, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
I think Meta:Translate extension might be a more fun option. However, this extension doesn't let translators deviate much from a pre-defined template (the English version is the "source"), so it may be suboptimal if you want people to use different formats. However, it seems that this would be a better method than manually created subpages. For an example of this extension at work, see GS or GR. πr2 (t • c) 03:16, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Script meaningEdit

It is a minified version of MediaWiki:Gadget-wm-portal.js. πr2 (t • c) 17:45, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

It converts Chinese stuff, sets a cookie for the search language, some other stuff... πr2 (t • c) 17:47, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! --Rogerhc (talk) 18:04, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

home pageEdit

Hey Roger, I just got a second to glance at the proposed Wikivoyage home page and wanted to tell you that I think it's beautiful. Really well done! Philippe (WMF) (talk) 10:39, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Wikivoyage on LabsEdit

User:Thehelpfulone added me to the Wikivoyage project on Labs to debug the instance-proxy issue. I changed $wgServer to "" in /var/www/srv/mediawiki/orig/LocalSettings.php, and it's now available at this address. HTH. --Tim Landscheidt (talk) 17:03, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. Hm, is only partly working: normal pages and special pages lack skin and action pages return 404. The action pages are being looked for at /srv/mediawiki/index.php?... which maybe should be /w/index.php?... . Can this be fixed in LocalSettings.php? --Rogerhc (talk) 22:34, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Actually, it was fixed between 16:32Z and 21:48Z on Monday :-). Then this change got merged, and $wgServer is now overwritten in /var/www/srv/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php :-(. I'll discuss with Andrew how he proposes to handle instance-proxy. --Tim Landscheidt (talk) 23:31, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
I made some progress with these edits to /srv/mediawiki/orig/LocalSettings.php:
#$wgScriptPath = "/srv/mediawiki";
$wgScriptPath = "/w";    // Roger 2003.05.08: fix broken actions

#$wgStylePath = "$wgScriptPath/skins";
$wgStylePath = "/skins"; // Roger 2003.05.08: fix broken skin
I don't understand why "/w" works though. I don't see it in /srv/mediawiki. I seem to have gotten the voy-en wiki working now at I left notes in the Wikivoyage log. Thank you for your help and your note in the log, too! :-) BTW, where is "/w" in the file system? I don't quite understand it and didn't see it in the file system; what is it? --Rogerhc (talk) 00:00, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
scfc_de> It's set up in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/wiki: 'Alias /w "/srv/mediawiki"'.(IRC #wikimedia-labs)

Chrome thingEdit

Maybe it has to do with CSS -webkit-appearance: textfield/none/searchfield ??? (unsure) PiRSquared17 (talk) 02:38, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Er, no. Sorry. Better to ask someone more knowledgable. PiRSquared17 (talk) 02:41, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
Fixed. See Talk:Www.wikivoyage.org_template#Chrome_adds_extra_search_icon_to_input_of_type_search. Rogerhc (talk) 18:07, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
Done. PiRSquared17 (talk) 18:19, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
