FDC
editI am a newly elected to be a member of the Funds Dissemination Committee. I see that you yesterday updated t~he main portal page and templates to make the group official on the pages which is good. I do have a general uneasisness for the page Funds Dissemination Committee though which seems to mostly hold info of historical interest. Could yopu help to do something with tha page, renamne it to the namen used on the portal page, or just point to the FDC portal/2012 FDC members, or clearly state is contains no longer correct info?Anders Wennersten (talk) 14:59, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your changes that takes care of my concerns. Anasuya also in a mail mention the need of a workspace for the committee, in which I fully agree, but expect this to be handled by her/you as a team.Anders Wennersten (talk) 05:39, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

editHi Heather! Sorry, i didnt realise the templates surfaced in the proposal list... My goal was to group all proposals, since it was confusing to have them all scattered on the main FDC category. I think it is easier to find them and go through them when they are in a specific category. Lusitana (talk) 17:17, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Seems you worked it out!
editHi Heather, You are doing an excellent job! I really liked the FDC tab template and it will really ease our work. I was going to suggest you to exclude the table of contents somehow as I am not that good with coding. Seems you've already figured that out:) Can you please increase the width of the template about an inch? There is still some blank space on the right hand side of the screen. Additionally, is it possible to add a visual editor to fill in the forms and tables. It will make the tab system work better & entities will find it very easy to fill in. Thanks a lot once again. - Ali Haidar Khan (Tonmoy) (talk) 21:23, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- I chãngedd the Template:FDC tabs so that all the discsusion of the proposals comes from the same page. And I moved the one that was on another page (Australia).Anders Wennersten (talk) 14:16, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
I wanted to give you a Barnstar!
editThis is to recognize your great support in making the first round of the FDC a success! (and creating this barnstar :) )
Thanks!
Grammatical error/suboptimal word choice on FDC template
editHi Heather, the HTML comment on the top of Template:FDC proposal hub says that all changes to the template should be run by you, so ... there's a grammatical error/suboptimal word choice in the template: "Results from the staff review" should be "Results of the staff review". I'd appreciate it if this could be fixed. Thanks! Graham87 (talk) 08:59, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hey there. I was just looking at your note and noticed that you made the change yourself. The grammar and such are not my purview, in general it's best to take those things regarding the FDC portal pages up on their respective talk pages. Thanks! heather walls (talk) 09:12, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- (after edit conflict) OK thanks for letting me know. I found some tweaks that needed to be made at FDC portal/Request evaluation, recommendation, and decision-making process so I just made them rather than trying to explain them (which would have taken much longer). So I thought I may as well edit the template while I'm there. Hope you don't mind. Graham87 (talk) 09:18, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Okay! All of the documents and templates are going to be reviewed in the next few weeks before round 2 really gets going, I'm sure improvements will be appreciated. heather walls (talk) 09:25, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

editThanks for your elegant work on the IEG pages. --Pine✉ 09:14, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Re: IEG
editI did add some comment, and I think my edits are enough to show the point. Anyway I'm done with this round of reading for those pages, and I'll consider buying a wider screen to fit the graphics for next round. --Nemo 17:59, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Re: Undo
editI just saw it listed on Special:UncategorizedCategories, which I'm trying to clear. Is there any specific reason why it shouldn't display in the other category? Can it be added to Category:IEG/Proposals or Category:Individual Engagement Grants instead? πr2 (t • c) 22:56, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Colour choice
editI noticed [1]. Was there any accessibility study for the choice of colours, which are apparently set in stone? --Nemo 12:09, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Nemo, thanks for asking. The color combination we are talking about does pass WCAG 2.0 guidelines at a 7 to 1 contrast (a AAA rating even for small text). heather walls (talk) 23:54, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Copyright problem with File:IEG Share.png
editThank you for uploading File:IEG Share.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at this page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Stefan2 (talk) 12:14, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

evaluation portal
edithi, i love your work on the evaluation portal, and the teahouse. as much as i like gears, i would like to suggest using Eve from sistine chapel [2] as a header logo. (playing on EV) hope you don't mind the aesthetic quibbling. Slowking4 (talk) 18:58, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Moving WMUK pages
editHi Heather, I didn't want to cause trouble. But I really don't understand why my changes have to be undone, when in fact they created the consistency Katy has mentioned on my talkpage. What is the chapter's legal name: WMUK or Wikimedia UK?? It's perfectly clear that changes to proposals aren't allowed after the submission date, but that was a just a change of the title. I have tried to be as consistent as possible in changing everything, not just one piece or the other. So I don't think that it's necessary to undo such changes, or let me ask Jon Davies first. Cheers, --Pakeha (talk) 17:01, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Pakeha, I do appreciate your goal in making things consistent, but WMUK named their proposals themselves. This is a crucial time after the proposal forms have been submitted and no changes (even to the name) are allowed by FDC staff. If you think it is important to make this change, please bring it up with both WMUK and FDC staff, and come to an agreement before making revisions. Thank you for understanding and taking part in the FDC process. heather walls (talk) 17:33, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I see your point when you mention that FDC staff aren't allowed to make any changes. Please consider that the FDC itself is made up of volunteers. And what's the principle of Wikimedia volunteers? Be bold and make changes, it's a wiki! This is a minor issue but I will bring it up with WMUK, and not make revisions before. I can assure you that I like taking part in the FDC process. --Pakeha (talk) 18:00, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, Pakeha: I wanted to add a note here since I have also reverted a few of your changes to the categories we set up for WMUK's proposal. We appreciate your good work and your desire for consistency, and we do realize that not allowing (even minor) changes to the proposal forms after the proposal submission date is not the usual wiki way. Thank you for your understanding and your willingness to follow the process. We are also glad you are a part of it! Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 03:27, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

APG calendar
editHi, I worked to simplify the syntax on the calendar and this would ease the translation. I worked before on a test wiki and all works perfectly; I propose to finish the changes (without enabling the translation) to let you see how it appears both in final rendering and in syntax. And in all cases it is possible to return back to the previous versions. ~ Seb35 [^_^] 18:46, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- That’s done for the simplification of the syntax. The rendering is exactly the same for the English, but now you can call the page with a parameter lang (e.g.
{{:Grants:APG/Calendar|lang=fr}}
) and the dates are translated in the specified language. Obviously the headers are still in English, the next step would be to create an helper template (e.g. Template:APG/Calendar/i18n) and call it for the translation. - Did I pass the test? :)

Format error at m:Privacy policy
editHello Heather. Do you work on templates at meta? If so can you look at the Privacy policy? Notice that there is some broken formatting under one of the blue boxes. Search for 'WMF open door.png' and you'll see it. My guess is that it's due to a recent change in one of the transcluded templates. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 02:31, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- @EdJohnston: I fixed it instead of waiting for Heather because this was important on such a visible page. Sorry for the delay, was busy IRL. Special:Diff/8441037. PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:07, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

corner-logo fuzziness
editI noticed the Commons logo still had a couple old visual bugs, and when I looked more closely realized that it's also fuzzier than it should be. Other wikis may have similar issues: corner logos that are less crisp than a PNG at that resolution should be. Is this intentional? Maybe an artifact of export/import roundtrips?
- + It seems that only en:wp expanded its logo to use the full 135px available.
- + Possibly unrelated: some SVGs of logos claim to have nominal width 135px but I find on download that their nominal width seems to be 203px.
If you zoom in on a page, this is especially noticeable. See my comment & examples on Commons: Talk:Wiki-commons.png. I don't know who's thinking about these things in the community or elsewhere, but figured you would :)
Warmly, –SJ talk 19:11, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Design-blocked technical community wish
editHi Heather, can you as a designer approve 2017 Community Wishlist Survey/Archive/Replace or supplement mobile pencil icon with "edit" in square brackets and A/B test editing uptake for measurement? User:DannyH (WMF) wrote that a design researcher would have to develop an alternative "[edit]" icon, but the proposal was just for using that as text, with or without the pencil icon. I suppose he's saying that the word edit should be stylized as a graphic? Or maybe the geometry should be set somehow? I would hate to ask for something which can't be internationalized like text can.
As far as you know, has anyone ever measured pencil icon vs. "[edit]" for editing uptake on mobile? James Salsman (talk) 20:25, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- "What is this 'pencil' thing of which you speak? Is that for carving runes like the ancients did?", he asked before going back to typing. >;-) — SMcCandlish ☺ ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 22:37, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
Invitation to participate in Universal Code of Conduct survey - WikiWomen's User Group
edit(You are receiving this message as you signed your interest to participate as part of the WikiWomen's User Group)
Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.
As you know, the WMF Board of Trustees ratified the Universal Code of Conduct early in February. That's the beginning; the policy itself cannot be used if the enforcement pathways are not defined. The implementation and enforcement of the UCoC requires the continuous cooperation to define clear definitions of enforcement pathways and processes. This needs to be done in a way that does not contradict with the internal bylaws and codes of conduct currently in place, but rather to support them and complement their deficiencies, if any.
In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:
Notice: This survey will be conducted via a third-party service, which may subject it to additional terms. For more information on privacy and data-handling, see the survey privacy statement <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/UCoC_Affiliates_Survey_Privacy_Statement>.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org.
Best regards,
