  4. Dear committee members, we would be glad if you take a look into our long standing request, or if you're working on it, please inform us of the progress so we understand your efforts. It's been two months that me and my friends are working continuously on this wiki and have created a deserving one (Take a look at our activity). Our wiki now have more articles than some approved real wikipedias, which are active for months or years! Thanks in advance for your consideration موسا (talk) 15:21, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Request for an status page of South Azerbaijani Test wikipedia (Wp/azb)

It may be seems a redundant page to create a status page for Wp/azb but because of not having between Language Committee and azb contributors, I request it. Up to now, we have done many thing to get the standards to create the azb wiki. But we don't exactly know that what should we do now!!! Also, we don't know that what reasons cause not to have an azb wiki. I think having contacts between Langcom members and azb contributors can solve the hindrances of creation of azb wiki. Regards. --Arjanizary (talk) 13:16, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Request for an opening of the Silesian German (Lower Silesian) Wikipedia

Hello! I'd like to see an opening of the Wikipedia project in Silesian German (it's here). As I understand, there are no problems (active one, valid code, all most-used core messages have been translated etc.) What should I/we do now? maybe something isn't done for now? --Leinbach (talk) 10:34, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

The problem is the (lack of) activity at the time being. For months, virtually nobody was active, and in the last two months the only contributor was you (cf. [1]). --MF-W 23:16, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
I'll try to contact some users which was active previous to my appearance... Regards, --Leinbach (talk) 05:02, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Request for verification of the Minangkabau Wikipedia

Hi! According to this unofficial analysis here, I'd like to see verification of the Wikipedia project in Minangkabau here. As I understand, there are no problems (active contributors, valid code, all most-used core messages have been translated etc.) What should we do now? SpartacksCompatriot (talk) 10:24, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Langcom has discussed a few days ago whether we think the test-project on Incubator is active enough for approval & we indeed think that that is the case. Therefore, I have just now contacted an expert in order to verify the content. In case that is "successful", Minangkabau Wikipedia will be approved. --MF-W 23:47, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Great, thank you! SpartacksCompatriot (talk) 11:08, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Request for approval of khw.wikipedia.org Khowar Wikipedia

Hi! I would like to request the language committee for the approval of Khowar Wikipedia. I am a native speaker and active contributor in Khowar Wikipedia Incubator Project. According to this unofficial analysis here, I would like to see verification of the Wikipedia project in Khowar Language of Pakistan here. As you know that in this wikiproject, there are no problems (active contributors, valid code, all most-used core messages have been translated by Rehmat Aziz Chitrali, the Test-Administrator of this Wiki etc.) Now, please guide us that what should we do now? -- Mirajbibi (talk) 05:52, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Neo-Aramaic Wiki

Hello WikiMembers,

I just signed up with Wiki and my goal is to create a Wiki for Jewish Neo-Aramaic languages such as Lishana Noshan, Lishana Didan and Houloula. I am a native speaker of them and since it is a dying language (less than 20,000 worldwide) I believe it should be preserved as soon as possible. It has a deep and rich history. I was wondering if anyone with any suggesstions or help could contact me.

Thanks
Shiloh

First, you should read the Incubator manual and then create a test project (with the right ISO 639 code).

Hello. How does it work with requests? Is the committee monitoring all projects and decides to get a project out from the incubator or we have to leave a notice somewhere? --FocalPoint (talk) 13:41, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Yes, there are committee members look into activity on Incubator and propose the approval of active projects to the complete committee. But you can also ask on this page, or any member personally, to look into the activity of a project if you think it is active enough. --MF-W 00:00, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Why there is need for separate Tajik and Persian wikipedias?

The following discussion is closed.

These languages are essentially the same, albeit use different alphabets. Why not combine them in one with automatic transliteration?--Anixx1 (talk) 23:52, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

The main problem is that someone would need to code the automatic transliteration. Afterwards, you would have to see that both communities actually agree with that and how you handle double content. --MF-W 00:00, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi could one of the language team give Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Middle English a status please 109.144.246.247 20:41, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi. An IP (you?) had overwritten a closed proposal from 2006 there. New requests should be opened instead of overwriting old ones. I had now wanted to copy the text to a new request, but then saw that Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Middle English 2 was already rejected (see there for the reason). It is possible to open a 3rd request now, but it is highly unlikely that there would be a different outcome than on the 2nd request. --MF-W 12:11, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi, it's not necessary to copy the text from a section above you, just say yourself in what you're interested in. Armenian is not a moribund language, to the best of my knowledge. — As you can see in the "automated statistics" you link, there most recent activity in the Armenian Wikinews test-project is: 2 edits by you in December 2012, and 1 edit by you in this month. It's a good question, and if I could expand it a little bit, there has been talk in Malay Wikipedia about the same subject (ms:Pengguna:Algazel/ProjekJawi and here). Javanese projects (there are 4 of them) also trying to launch dual Latin-Javanese script view. The goal is to have an automatic conversion system. Request for update the status of Tyva Wikipedia (Тыва Википедия)

I have translated the "Most-used MediaWiki messages", collected new editors and create a new pages in Testing Tyva Wikipedia. Could you update the status on the Tyva Wikipedia. --Agilight (talk) 16:16, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

According to the statistics of Tuvinian Wikipedia, there are no real activity since December. --Leinbach (talk) 19:57, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
@Agilight: Great that you have translated the most used messages! Like Leinbach said, the level of activity is a bit too low. If there is more activity consistently over a few months, I'm sure we could approve it. Try reaching out to cultural institutions, universities, etc. to help you recruit editors for the Tyva Wikipedia. :-) Jon Harald Søby (talk) 20:33, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
I try so hard to explain about Wikipedia in Tyva, but we have not a normal speed of Internet in Tyva. For tyvan people it's so difficult to work in Wikimedia Incubator, cuz interface and Wiki-system is not trivial for us (low-knowledge people). If we have had own site, the advancing of Tyva Wikipedia will be more comfortable: I'll make video-courses for novice and more skilled Internet users. Unfortunately, most of tyvan is low-skilled Internet users, also they are low-skilled computer users. If you know, the Internet began spread in Tyva from 2002 year. But Internet for us still expensive: normal Internet (with awful service) costs $30 per month.
For universities and schools is useful learn Wikipedia and same projects. But they demands a garantee of benefit from Wikipedia, Tyvan Department of Science and Education too. They affraid about this projects, cuz it's so difficult for him.
Could you give me some documents or an appeal for our universities, schools and official departments? Especially for Tyvan departments.
We raised our the activity of section, and promote it further. --Agilight (talk) 14:10, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Change Javanese Banyumasan Wikipedia code from map-bms to jv-bms

Reason: w:Banyumasan language itself doesn't have a code yet. But when the project was approved and launched back in 2005, the code given to the language was map-bms. There was a flaw in the logic as it disregard the fact that it is a dialect of Javanese, thus the correct code should be jv-bms. The community has been notified as well as it's current 3 admins (all inactive). Bennylin 12:49, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Hm, first of all, wiki renames currently are not possible, see bugzilla:19986. But that might change in the future if the developers find a way to do it. I'm not sure if the change itself is needed, as 'map' stands for Austronesian languages, so it is not entirely wrong. Are there any chances that Banyumasan will get an own ISO 639-3 code? For example, has an request ever be made? --MF-W 17:05, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Looking at the language family, the more specific, the better:
Language family
Austronesian
Malayo-Polynesian
Nuclear
Javanese
Banyumasan
Another upside of it, the renaming could make other help in deciding other projects currently waiting in the making (all of which are from the same family of 'jv' language):
Thanks for the bugzilla link, I'll add a request on that tracking bug.
Banyumasan, Pekalongan, Surabayaan, afaik never request their own code. Beside 'bms' code has been registered for 'Bilma Kanuri'. Bennylin 11:11, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Request for enabling new variants for Min Dong Chinese language

Opinions appreciated: translatewiki:Thread:Support/Request_for_enabling_new_variants_for_Min_Dong_Chinese_language.

Currently Wikipedia in Min Dong Chinese language are written in Foochow Romanized, mainly used by Christian church in Fuzhou. However, for most of the native people who stay in Fuzhou and other Min Dong people, they faced difficulties in understanding the Foochow Romanized. Hence, we request for enabling a new variant which is Min Dong language in Chinese characters script, which used by most people in Min Dong. Thank you. Below are the information of variants:

Language Code:ISO 639-3:cdo
Original script: Foochow Romanized (Bàng-uâ-cê)
New script variants requested:
cdo-han: Min Dong language in Chinese characters script (閩東語漢字)

Why the two scripts couldn't be used on the same Wikipedia? Amqui (talk) 22:17, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
The two scripts are being used on the same Wikipedia and will remain so. However the interface messages are in Romanized Foochowese and, to tell you the truth, the vast majority of Foochowese and other Min Dong people had never received education in Romanized Foochowese so it is very difficult for them to even find the "edit" and "save page" tabs because they have difficulty comprehending the romanized writing system.
We are just requesting permission for the default interface be translated into the Min Dong language in Chinese character script, similar to that used for the Hakka language.

Could you please review this project?--Cheers! (talk) 09:45, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

I'm here to strongly suggest that vi wikivoyage should be created now. Over the last few months, the project has grown tremendously from almost nothing to hundreds of articles that are 10k plus bytes together with over 1000 articles so far!! Some users are frustrated because they have invested so much time and energy for it and ended up useless. Some users have consistently asked what is the exact requirement like how many articles must be created and how much information should be in them but all they got in response were some very very vague answers that don't have any definite numbers. We like having no goal and lost track in directions because of the delaying and the ambiguousness. Some users edit less this month due to frustration, but if the project is created, they will continue to contribute as before or even more. It will also more likely to get notice from other people and will end up attract more editors by the creation of this project. One thing for sure is more people will edit it and the existing editors will edit more excitingly. I see no reason to delay further the creation of this. What benefit does that, delaying the creation, do really? If it is better to not create it now then i would rather let it not being created now but it is not better! Why don't you just make the better choice to make it better instead of holding it back by delaying the creation? It will get less edit and may die off in the future instead of growing into its full potential if not created. You are actually hurting the growth of our vi wikivoyage by delaying it. Lastly, i belive we have met the requirement of this "It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months." As for everything I have said, and for the better of wiki overall, I'm urgent you guys to make a good decision now! Easy decision but very important to to us!!Trongphu (talk) 08:04, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia Talysh

Hello! Even though I am not involved with this prospective Wikipedia, I was wondering about its status. The project has been verified as eligible, and seems active. How long does this eligibility stagnation period take? QatarStarsLeague (talk) 00:40, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

For the final approval (from my observations) there are should be 3 or more active editors (with at least 10-11 edits per month), which are contributing for at least half a year. What's for Talysh Wikipedia, I see only one really active user with 2-3 edits per day: it's not very much. --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 12:05, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Hallo Language Committee! Hows the Wikivoyage Indonesian? Its growing more now... Um, so.. When exactly that the Project will be approved? *just tired to add "Wy/id/" on every singles of Wikifisation and template :(*, Thanks :D -Zikriaulio (talk) 13:29, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

I would say it could be approved in 1-2 month, if activity keeps up. --MF-W 00:39, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

hello Language committee, How many articles necessary for created Wikipedia Tamazight

— The preceding unsigned comment was added by ‎ⴰⴷⵔⴰⵔ (talk) 10:33, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello, it is not so much important how many articles there are, but it's more important to have continuous activity (generally at least 3 regular editors for a couple of months). --MF-W 00:38, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Akan vs. Twi

Hello. Why is there a separate Wikipedia in Twi? It is an extremely closely related language, if not a dialect, of Akan. According to SIL, it is a member of the "Akan" macrolanguage (while this is about the ISO 639-3 code, it still applies). So what is the purpose of having a separate Wikipedia in Twi, when it could be merged into the Akan Wikipedia? Or should the Akan Wikipedia be split into different dialects (see w:Central Tano languages (the "Akan" part), including the Asante/Akuapem dialects)? Twi Wikipedia has 154 articles, Akan has 171. Merge? πr2 (tc) 21:26, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

fr:Twi has more of the information. πr2 (tc) 21:29, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
You seems to be right, could it be confirm?
w:ak: and w:tw are two little projects with virtually no community and almost no activity (see w:ak:Special:RecentChanges and w:tw:Special:RecentChanges).
Technically, I guess that a merge proposal could be done on Proposals for closing projects (since the activity is very low, maybe a simple closure will be better? → back to the incubator? just asking not actually proposing that).
Cdlt, VIGNERON * discut. 08:00, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Well, I saw Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Twi Wikipedia and Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Akan Wikipedia. The first one discusses the possibility of a merger. I don't know whether they would be better as separate subdomains, one subdomain, or as testwiki on the incubator. πr2 (tc) 14:12, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
In fact, I see the Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_Akan_Wikipedia#Oppose_.2817.29 (first "oppose") mentions this as well. I think that's good evidence that they should be one wiki. πr2 (tc) 14:14, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
I even found Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_Akan_Wikipedia#General_discussion. The second and third comments in that section are interesting. What should we do about Akan/Twi? πr2 (tc) 14:20, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

  Progress report? PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:15, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

As PiRSquared17, I'm interested to know what is the intent on that matter, thanks. Amqui (talk) 20:29, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
I have created a page detailing the pros and cons of merger, and I've asked a native speaker and others on Talk:Planning Wikimedia Ghana. Still no LangCom response. PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:56, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
Also, what should we do about Fanti [fat] (the other main dialect/language of Akan)? PiRSquared17 (talk) 16:51, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

... I'll just assume that nobody cares. PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:18, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately, this assumption seems to be right. Amqui (talk) 03:35, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Maybe I'll get an answer in 2014. PiRSquared17 (talk) 15:57, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Okay. Maybe we should let the Akan-speaking community decide. PiRSquared17 (talk) 20:23, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Very good, I am awaiting their decision. --MF-W 21:54, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Finnish Wikivoyage

Hi, what's the status of this project? It has been verified as eligible two and half weeks ago, as you can see: Requests for new languages/Wikivoyage Finnish. --Stryn (talk) 17:10, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

You've answered your own question about the status. :-) There's no activity, that's why nobody gives approval for Wy/fi. --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 17:35, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Eh? Where's no activity? On request page or on the Incubator page? If request page, what activity there should be, because everything has said already... If Incubator, it does not make sense to be active there, because pages will be imported from the old Wikitravel... --Stryn (talk) 17:39, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
On Incubator, of course. Another variants? :)
And so what, then it's unecessary to contribute? The Chinese Wikivoyage should be imported from the Wikitravel too, but they actively contribute now. It's nothing wrong to start working just now. --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 06:05, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't understand why should we contribute the Incubator. The old Wikitravel Finnish was active with much of content. Maybe the old WT users want to continue contributing the Wikivoyage itself, not the Incubator. --Kulmalukko (talk) 14:33, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
Then I have no idea what to say. Anyway it's not depend on me, so wait for an answer of one of the actual committee members. Nobody should/must, my job is only to offer. --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 15:43, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

The WV Fi request was created 9 months ago. The request was verified almost 3 months ago. But still, nothing seems to be happened. Have the Language Committee decided that Finnish Wikivoyage will not be opened? --Kulmalukko (talk) 18:37, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

No. LangCom is just slow. Perhaps a benefit of this is that we can see if there is sustained interest in a project. PiRSquared17 (talk) 14:02, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Khakas

I propose to verify the Khakas Wikipedia as eligible. It keeps on hold because of "waiting for native speakers", but now there are three real ones — Ayas7, Ailatadar and AtMorsho. Please fix the status of request. Regards, --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 06:52, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Also I wonder why the request of Nenets Wikipedia is still on hold too. A lot of Nenets native speakers were involved to this project (e. g. Владислав Песков, Sergardeev86, ИРИЙКО, Евдя, Юлия Апицына etc.). They was mostly inactive, but that's another matter. --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 07:16, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Do the Khakas speakers say somewhere that they are native speakers?
About Nenets, most of the users from incubator:Category:Users:By language:yrk-N only have two or three edits. I think there needs to be more until it can be said that "native speakers appeared". There is no harm from the "waiting" status. --MF-W 23:55, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Ayas7 told that his name is Ayas Tyundeshev (this is Khakasian name) and he lives in Abakan (capital of Khakasia). I think he speaks Khakas as native, or at least as a second native one. Ailatadar - if it is a real name of this user, he could speak Khakas too. --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 12:58, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

And... what? Ethnic Khakasians who create big articles in Khakas - aren't they native speakers? --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 14:58, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Request for approval of the Votic Wikipedia (Wp/vot)

Hello! The Votic Wikipedia (it's here) is active since May 2013. I'm sure it's ready for approval and creation. Votic is a moribund language, but we have 3-4 active involved users (with me), so it's not an actual problem.

On a request page one of our former users told that Votic language has no unified standard in writing and that's why Wp/vot shouldn't be created. I tried to correct this problem, and now all our articles have the same type of orthography; and of course we tried to fix problems with way of writing of individual words. So we are ready now. :)

See also: last activity, automatic statistics, our typical article. Thanks, --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 15:42, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

I've proposed the approval. --MF-W 16:37, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Done (I'll write a combined report for September + October, and then hope to switch back to doing it monthly). --MF-W 20:37, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

zh.wikiversity

May you consider to approve zh.wikiversity to leave the beta version? Some people may say that there are to less of editors, but I think that keeping it in beta version is also one of the reason that there are less editors. So, I hope that the community my approve it, thank you!--Gabrielchihonglee (talk) 14:29, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Atm I don't think there is enough activity for a new Wikiversity. --MF-W 16:31, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Requests for new languages/Wikipedia East Franconian German

Can someone verify it as eligible? The request is since 2008, and from that moment no one pays attention to this.

Main Franconian dialects stay separately from the Standard German (just compare vmf | de). It also has its own code ISO3 (vmf). The project is active more or less, most of articles are informative enough. --Midnight Gambler (talk) 03:26, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

If it doesn't make sense just say so. I believe I didn't ask smth weird... --Midnight Gambler (talk) 15:02, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Dear language committee, in 5 weeks it should be possible to say yes or no or something else. Please help us! Give us feedback! --Bua333 (talk) 06:20, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Maybe poke MF-W to comment here. -Barras talk 10:09, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
MF-W has a note on his talk page about this case on incubator since 7 days (from Bua333) and on meta (from me) since today. --Steggalfiisch (talk) 11:55, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Wenn der 19. vor sieben Tagen war, dann mag das so sein. --MF-W 12:18, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
I will see to it that a decision about the eligibility is made. --MF-W 12:18, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Some old requests to control

Hi there, I found these requests for new projects, but I don't know what to do with them. They seem to have a wrong template or so, so if you can take a look at them and decide upon them:

Cheers, --Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 15:42, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you, I have taken care of these (corrected templates or deleted them, where appropriate). --MF-W 03:56, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Wikivoyage Korean

Please check Requests for new languages/Wikivoyage Korean whether it is verifiable or not. I'm sure that because Korean Wikitravel is exist right now, it should be considered as eligible and create right now. --관인생략 (talk) 02:42, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Problems with Votic Wikipedia

I have read the discussion about the approval of Votic Wikipedia (I hope that's not secret data). Actually I'm even happy that Langcom found a good expert in the field of Uralic languages. Some notices about his/er response:

  • "ležib" instead of "on" in sentences like "the object is in...". I've fixed this ([6]). I'm not sure that real native speakers wouldn't understand the previous variant of wording (although, I agree, the variant with "ležib" ("lies") looks a bit strange).
  • Name of the main page. "Esicülci" literally means "the first [main] side". Word "cülci" means any side, not only body side. In any case, I renamed it from "Esicülci" to "Päälehto" (lit. "the main list", like in Vőro, Ingrian...). The new variant is entirely reasonable.
  • Absence of native speakers. Yes, we never had them, and I won't hide this fact. User Päivüd, as she(?) told in a request page, has Votic ancestors, but it's very doubtful that she is an actual native speaker. If this user really trying to learn and speak Votic in everyday life I'm sincerely happy for her. Be that as it may, she's inactive for more than year and didn't contribute much. The rest of our contributors are Russians (apart from FitzSaemParson, he's from Finland).
  • Some artificiality of "our" Votic, great number of calques, "very Russian" constructions of sentences etc.. I look at it with irony. We might find some real Votic grannies and suggest them to translate some words like e.g. "independence", "society", "service", "exact", and also some function words like "only", "but", "of course"... I would not be surprised, if they will use calques from Russian. (BTW I'm not sure they can use computer).

I think that members of Langcom are skeptical with respect to vot.wp, but (I know it sounds corny) we all wanted to take a chance and save the language. As for me, I think it turned out well. At least it's better than nothing.

Ask me if you have questions. --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 19:44, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for this comment; I have relayed it to the rest of Langcom. --MF-W 03:24, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia Simple Urdu

  • I am an administrator from Wikipedia Urdu language (سمرقندی). I am here after observing more than 7 years of a situation that require a Simple Urdu Wikipedia. Me and other members tried our best to somehow keep up the progress at the Main Urdu Wikipedia but situation is still the same even after such a long struggle.
  • Main Urdu language Wikipedia prefer to write science, technology and meth articles in a language parallel to the Main English Wikipedia, and this is what makes it difficult for the majority of Urdu speaking people.
  1. Most of the people do not contribute because of the language values and standard of contents at professional level.
  2. Literacy rate among Urdu speaking, specifically understanding of science articles is a major contributing factor.
  3. If we ignore our linguistic values, most people will just TRANSLITERATE from English into Urdu alphabets and we will lost the originality of a language.
  4. If we have a Wikipedia in simple Urdu, we can find a lot of people to contribute for it due to the easy of writing without any consideration of the professional level contents in each article, just like simple English Wikipedia.
  5. The long economic and social conditions have created a diglossia in Urdu language, we cannot remove it any time soon, we cannot ignore the originality of a language due to such a situation, we need to preserve a language in it original form and purity until economic and educational conditions improve.

I can explain my view about this request in more detail if required. Please let me know if it is possible to create a simple Urdu Wikipedia, how to do it and where to request for it. Thank You. --سمرقندی (talk) 08:05, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

According to this LangCom decision, only simple languages with existing standards are allowed. Is there a standard for simple Urdu/Hindustani? PiRSquared17 (talk) 04:55, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. I may answer your question in Yes, there are published standard from various reputed authorities of Urdu language from India, Pakistan and also from other countries which we have Urdu speaking communities such as UAE, UK etc. I may provide you with documental, historical and (if possible) online evidence of such a diglossia in Urdu language that need another Simple Urdu Wikipedia 1) to save the original Urdu language on the one hand and 2) to not prevent a population of middle level education or educated in English; most of the modern subjects are teach in English language and those persons just try to utilize TRANSLITERATION instead of original Urdu alternate term for a scientific or other modern subject. In the future we may remove such dual usage of a same language but this can not be done at the moment or even in near future. Such a Wikipedia of Simple Urdu language will provide a media to encourage a large population of Urdu speaking people to contribute the knowledge they have and also to keep the standard form of Urdu language in its real form and to prevent its extinction. --سمرقندی (talk) 07:28, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

I do not think your request is achievable. You disagree with forms of Urdu used on urwiki. Such an issue needs to be resolved on the wiki itself, instead of by creating a new wiki. There needs to be a real standard of some "simplified" language form, not merely a desire to use less words imported from the English language. --MF-W 15:15, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

What MF-W is said is maybe beacuse you do not know or understand Urdu, you did not explain or refer to any explanation page for the term "simplified" language form? There are clearly two forms in use for the Urdu language, the matter is not opposing the English imported words, the matter is of a complete structure of the language including the grammar and professional Urdu terms instead of layman words. This situation is preventing the growth and progress of, not only the Urdu Wikipedia but also of a large society. This is not going to achieve the purpose and aim of Wikipedia foundation as a whole. The need for a Simple Urdu Wikipedia is not less than the Simple English or Simple French Wikipedias, the problem is that (I think) this stage where I am making a case for Simple Urdu Wikipedia is not aware of the Urdu language situation and not even trying to understand, not asking much what needed to understand the situation. --سمرقندی (talk) 02:26, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
  • PiRSquared, from the mailing-list link that you cited, it appears that as far as LangCom is concerned we can host a "simple" urdu wikipedia in a separate namespace inside the ur.wikipedia.org project without objection from langCom. Is my understanding correct? If yes, can there be other objections by the foundation to this? --Urdutext (talk) 05:27, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
It's not LangCom's job to decide what wikis can do after they are created. I don't see why the WMF would object to this. If you have consensus to do this, then I don't see why you can't. Some wikis even have content in multiple dialects in the article-namespace (e.g., crwiki, napwiki, nrmwiki). Others have content in different scripts (at least some of the Serbo-Croatian language-wikis, don't know which). PiRSquared17 (talk) 18:01, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

International Organization for Standardization

I thought this discussion here pertaining to a comment made by Jimmy Wales on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) might be of interest. Praxis Icosahedron (talk) 01:34, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia is supposed to have no original research, but that does not mean the the Wikimedia Foundation cannot conduct research or that the Board cannot make its own decisions. Wikipedia's content is supposed to be neutral and without OR, but other wikis, like Wikiversity, allow OR. ISO is a great source for standards, and it is now a requirement that all new projects have an ISO code, but that doesn't mean we let any language with an ISO code get a wiki. For example, tlhIngan Hol. I don't know how much you know about LangCom, but I recommend you take a look at the new language policy and Incubator's inclusion policy. Incubator lets any ISO 639-3 language in, but LangCom needs to verify each language as eligible. PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:09, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

final approval of bakhtiari bqi wikipedia

Hello
please check https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/bqi this viki incubator was eligible in 2008 can it be to approve and make the bakhtiari own wikipedia page?
