A change in CSD code
Per Pppery comment on RFD, I think it's confusing that we use I for Images CSD. In almost all other projects like zhwp, enwp and elsewhere, Images are send to Files for Deletion, deleted via speedy using Files. The title for our own RFD page is Files not Images. So I will think to make people less confused let's change or add as an alternative F titles for CSD alongside I. I.e. I3 will be now F/I 3. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:39, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
- "I" is for historical reasons. I don't mind changing them to "F", but the old "I"s should be kept to avoid broken links in logs, ideally; or we can keep things as they are as no harm is being done. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 14:47, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
- I don't understand what this is about at all. On Meta:Deletion_policy#Criteria_for_speedy_deletion I don't see any "F"s or "I"s, and the cryptical codes on MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown don't have them either. --MF-W 15:27, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
- @MF-Warburg: It's hidden HTML code using the "span id" tag which is only visible at the page source so you can use it in wikilinks e.g. WM:CSD#I1. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:34, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Community Portal of Meta
Hello, when I tried to access Community Portal of Meta from Mobile site (aka meta.m.wikimedia.org), from the hamburger menu on the left, I get directed to Goings-on, instead of this oage which would appears to be a more typical place for meta-related community discussion to take place. I think such link is inconsistent with other wiki and make it harder for user to reach this place for meta-related discussion. I think this should be changed to link to this Meta:Babel page instead, anyone know how to achieve this? C933103 (talk) 12:07, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Meta Wiki Mobile Skin
Hello, when I visit Mobile version of Meta Wiki, the skin look like https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/854343545632718848/933707266681614336/Screenshot_20220120-205808.png with 40% space on the left hand side of the page being blank. Is this intentional design choice and can the blank space be removed? C933103 (talk) 13:02, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- @C933103: I cannot reproduce this. I think the problem is coming from your global.css code? Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 20:49, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Resolved. @C933103 and Quiddity (WMF): Yes, the output is also due to the him custom CSS rule:✍️ Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 21:21, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
.mw-body { margin-left: 10em; }
I see, so this is caused by the dark mode styling there. Is there ways to limit such styling to only desktop version skin, or alternative approaches to have a better implementation of dark mode? C933103 (talk) 02:15, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
- @C933103: This is not really a metawiki issue, you would be better to have the conversation at Mediawikiwiki mw:Help:Skins and talk pages. If you style into your special:mypage/global.css it will be global. Typically mobile uses the skin mw:Skin:Minerva Neue and you can style that through your preferences here. If you have issues with how the skins or the configuration options, then those requests belong in phabricator: tickets. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:59, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
- As the skin page talk page is apparently desolated, I'd just leave my last comment here for anyone reaching this section (or archive of this section) in the future through internet search. This is apparently successfully fixed by limiting the specific property to vector skin following instruction in mw:Help:Extension:GlobalCssJs by making use of CSS class selector. (Edit: The shifting is actually a bit different, but better than otherwise anyway) C933103 (talk) 13:18, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Desktop Improvements update and Office Hours invitation
Hello. I wanted to give you an update about the Desktop Improvements project, which the Wikimedia Foundation Web team has been working on for the past few years.
The goals of the project are to make the interface more welcoming and comfortable for readers and useful for advanced users. The project consists of a series of feature improvements which make it easier to read and learn, navigate within the page, search, switch between languages, use article tabs and the user menu, and more.
The improvements are already visible by default for readers and editors on 24 wikis, including Wikipedias in French, Portuguese, and Persian.
The changes apply to the Vector skin only. Monobook or Timeless users are not affected.
Features deployed since our last update
- User menu - focused on making the navigation more intuitive by visually highlighting the structure of user links and their purpose.
- Sticky header - focused on allowing access to important functionality (logging in/out, history, talk pages, etc.) without requiring people to scroll to the top of the page.
For a full list of the features the project includes, please visit our project page. We also invite you to our Updates page.
How to enable the improvements
- It is possible to opt-in individually in the appearance tab within the preferences by unchecking the "Use Legacy Vector" box. (It has to be empty.) Also, it is possible to opt-in on all wikis using the global preferences.
- If you think this would be good as a default for all readers and editors of this wiki, feel free to start a conversation with the community and contact me.
- On wikis where the changes are visible by default for all, logged-in users can always opt-out to the Legacy Vector. There is an easily accessible link in the sidebar of the new Vector.

Hello all. I propose to make Meta:Bots into an official policy. This is a long-standing page and had little change since 2016. An inactivity policy was introduced and subsequently made into an official policy in 2019 so makes no sense to leave this out. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 11:20, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- I support oficialising Meta:Bots and merging Meta:Bot inactivity policy into it so everything is consolidated in one place. However, I'd also take this oportunity to clarify when the inactivity checks for bots should be carried out. The policy mentions that they'll be "periodically reviewed" which is a bit vague. I think it'd be good to mention when that review can happen (e.g. on April 1st each year, so we can handle those with the admin inactivity checks). Thanks, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:53, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Minorax There is a previous discussion started by me here Meta:Babel/Archives/2020-11#Meta:Bots. I think there is a rough consensus there to make it a policy and merge the 2. @MarcoAurelio Can I do the merge now. Sorry I let the last discussion lapse. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:18, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Camouflaged Mirage: I feel I am bit involved, so I'll let other bureaucrats (@MF-Warburg & @Xaosflux) to decide. Thanks, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:05, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

- This all seems fine, to make sure we are all on the same page - nothing is changing so far as actual community or operator expectations are involved, correct. Agree that in wrapping this up Meta:Bot inactivity policy should be merged in to Meta:Bots; the M-W bot policy still mostly pulls from the global Bot policy - but have to objections to tagging Meta:Bots as a policy page for the additional local policy rules that we have. — xaosflux Talk 11:49, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, i.e. Merging the inactivity page (i.e. copy-paste) to the main policy page, and redirecting the former to the latter. The main page will then be tagged as policy. No changes to the text whatsoever. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:31, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- Agree to make it an official Meta-Wiki policy and merging Meta:Bot inactivity policy into the removal (or something inactivity section) and keeping Meta:Bot inactivity policy as a redirect to that section. Hulged (talk) 02:21, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
- I also agree with the above comments. --Zabe (talk) 14:36, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
