October 2020

  26 October: The open video call CEE Talk No 2: Strategy 2030 recommendations and initiatives, Round 2 will be held at 29 October 18:00 (UTC).
  17 October: On 24–25 October, itWikiCon 2020, the Italian language conference about Wikimedia projects, takes place with Katherine Maher, WMF Executive Director, Jimbo Wales, Wikipedia founder and Alessandro Barbero, Italian historian.
  17 October: The open video call CEE Talk No 1: Strategy 2030 recommendations and initiatives, Round 1 will be held at 22 October 16:00 (UTC).
  15 October: Discussion tools has been put into beta testing environment here at metawiki. Also see its help page.
  15 October: Sandister Tei of Accra, Ghana was announced as the 2020 Wikimedian of the Year
  13 October: A read-only time is scheduled for October 27. During a short period of time, you will be able to read, but not edit, all wikis. Know more about this.
  2 October: Wikimedia CEE Online Meeting 2020 takes place 2–4 October

September 2020

  17 September: After a thorough assessment of large-scale errors at Malagasy Wiktionary, there is a poll and discussion about deleting the inaccurate material.
  15 September–13 October: You may discuss and vote on a name of an upcoming Wikimedia wiki project for a library of functions.
  15 September: The open video call Wikimedia Clinic #010 will be held at 13:00 UTC. Google Meet.
  7 September: Community draft review for the Universal Code of Conduct is going on from September 07 until October 06, 2020. Please review the draft at the UCoC Draft Review page and leave comments and recommendations on the talk page.
  2 September: Language showcase: The Language team presents a new project to improve the localization process of Scribunto modules.

  25 August: There is currently a request for comment about large scale language inaccuracies on the Scots Wikipedia.

  24 June: There is currently a request for comment about improving the "request for comments" process itself, which for right now serves as the only dispute resolution forum for many wikis.
  16 June: The Foundation Branding Project started a survey about its renaming proposals.
  16 June: The community is looking for input in regard of the aforementioned survey about the renaming and its validity in this straw poll.

May 2020

  31 May: The AffCom is seeking new members! Applications are accepted from June 1 to June 30. Also everyone possible to share endorsement and comments for the June 2020 candidates.
  11 May: The final document of the 2018-20 Wikimedia movement strategy process, the strategy recommendations have been published.
  5 May: A proposal for a new Wikimedia project is made, Wikilambda. It provides a solution to maintain articles once, but provide them in many languages, and a new sister project to collaborate on functions.


  30 May: This month's Wikimedia Café will occur on 30 May at 9:30 AM Pacific time / 12:30 PM Eastern time / 4:30 PM UTC / 10 PM IST. The primary topic will be the Wikimedia 2030 strategy recommendations. You are welcome to join the Café and to propose additional topics for discussion.

April 2020

  3 April: Following a successful global request for comment, the proposed Abuse filter maintainer policy has been approved and the global usergroup has been created.

March 2020

  28 March: At this month's Wikimedia Café, we will discuss the relationship between the community and the Wikimedia Foundation. You are welcome to join the Café and to propose additional topics for discussion.
  16 March: Steward elections and confirmations are finished.
  1 March – 31 March: Voting on the creation of "abuse filter manager" group will run from March 1 and end on March 31, 23:59 (UTC)

February 2020

  15 February: You are invited to attend the monthly Wikimedia Café online meetup. This month's meetup will focus on the 2030 strategy recommendations, and will be divided into two discussions of one hour each.
  8 February – 28 February: 2020 Steward elections voting is running until 28 February 2020, 13:59 (UTC)


January 2020

  29 January: The 2020 members of the Ombudsman Commission have been announced.
  20 January – 21 February: The last facilitated round of movement discussions on the Wikimedia 2030 strategy recommendations is taking place.
  January: It is possible to share endorsement and comments for the December 2019 candidates to the Affiliations Committee.
  15 January – 28 January: Candidate submissions for the 2020 Steward elections will begin on January 15 and will end on January 28. Eligible candidates can nominate themselves.
  25 January: The monthly Wikimedia Café online meeting will occur. The Café will be on a Saturday and will be earlier in the day than in previous months. The agenda is here, and you are welcome to add items to the agenda.
  19 January: Requests for comment/Should the Foundation call itself Wikipedia - a motion to clarify the 2030 branding movement community consultation as to whether the WMF should rename itself.
  5 January: RfC: Update "Admin activity review policy"—a procedural motion to include the Interface administrator within existing review process.


December 2019

  19 December: At this month's Wikimedia Café, we will discuss the documentation for Wikitext, and we will discuss the NavWiki project.

November 2019

  November 2019 – March 2020: Members of the nine thematic Working Groups concluded their task of drafting recommendations for the movement 2030 strategy. Three new groups with new tasks have been composed.
  21 November: This month's Wikimedia Café will occur. We will continue the topics from the October conversation regarding Wikimedia activities and organizations in India.

October 2019

  21 October-11 November: The Community Wishlist Survey 2020 is now open! To learn more about the new format, we invite you to visit the survey page. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!
  4-11 October: She Did It writing challenge devoted to improving the coverage of Ukrainian women on Wikipedia.
  4-6 October: WikiArabia 2019 takes place in Marrakesh, Morocco.
  4-6 October: WikiCon 2019 of the German-speaking communities takes place in Wuppertal.

September 2019

  6-8 September: WikiConvention francophone 2019 takes place in Brussels.

August 2019

  August-November: Please read the Wikimedia 2030 draft recommendations by the working groups.

May 2019

  April-July: Please participate in the Movement Strategy Community Conversations.
  1 April-1 June: The Billboards Initiative: It focuses on installation of static and digital billboards around two different cities of Nepal, and sharing the project via social media sites. Basically, we are engaging new readers.

April 2019

  April 17 – TBA: A proposal to modify the Language proposal policy has been published at Language proposal policy/2019-04 proposed revision. Please join the discussion at Talk:Language proposal policy/2019-04 proposed revision.
  April 15 – April 30: Nominations for Affiliate Selected Board Seats, see Affiliate-selected Board seats/Resolution 2019
  April 11: You will not be able to edit most Wikimedia wikis for up to 30 minutes on 11 April 05:00 UTC. This is because of a hardware problem. You can still read the wikis. You can see which wikis are affected. The time you can not edit might be shorter than 30 minutes.

March 2019

  22 October: There is a discussion to remove all administrators, bureaucrats, and CheckUsers and set up an Arbitration Committee on the Croatian Wikipedia for alleged misuse of admin rights to promote biased content.
  March 21 – April 17: Wikimedia Foundation is seeking volunteers to join a revised Communications committee.
  March 29–31: Wikimedia Summit 2019 took place in Berlin.

February 2019

  February 26 – May: Wikimedia Foundation explores a proposal on Wikimedia brand research and strategy. For public feedback, please go to Talk:Communications/Wikimedia brands/2030 research and planning/community review. For private, please email to brandproject wikimedia.org. There are other ways to share feedback, like scheduling a meeting.
  February 25 – March 23: A video tutorial regarding how to create references with VisualEditor is in development, and depending on funding might be made available in English and Spanish. Additional video tutorials may be produced in the future. You can subscribe to the project newsletter.
  Feb 17 – Mar 3: Final choice for the logo of WikiClassics user group. We value your feedback. voting is running until 3 March 2019, 00:00 (UTC)
