Requesting Funds for Wikiacademy at Oxford Book stores Kolkata edit

The Wikipedia Kolkata community is planning a wikiacademy at the Oxford Book Stores, Kolkata on 23 Aug. 2015 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikilearnopedia/Oxford_Book_Store.

We are planning to provide refreshment (tea and snacks) for the participants, the cost comes to Rs 50 per head and we are estimating a turn out of 50 people. So the total costs comes to Rs2500 (Rupees two thousand and five hundred only).

On behalf of Kolkata Wikipedia Community, I request for funding of the event. There are no any other sources from which we are seeking support.--Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 17:14, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello, thanks for planning this event. The Meta page (version link) you have created looks really nice.   I am eager to ask you a few questions:
  1. the participants are introduced to the basics of Wikipedia (and other WikiProjects) and how to contribute to it -- Could you tell us how many participants will be there? Is it 50? How many established and new/non Wiki-editors? We know that it might be difficult to tell exact numbers, an approximate stat would be more than good.
  2. In the "Measures of success" section, you have written: the number of new active users following the event and Number of articles and photographs submitted by the new active users - Could you tell us how many new editors, photos or articles you are expecting?

Someone supported this request anonymously (using IP address), another editor has reverted his edit. Could you ask them to write once again? Thanks.   --TitoDutta 04:22, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1.The hall provided by Oxford can accommodate 60 people, we are looking for 50 participants. We are looking for about 10 participants with wiki user id, but with few edits. Some of these participants are haveing problems in giving references or in using phot0s in wikipedia. The rest 40 would be totally new to wikipedia editing.
2. This is difficult to answer but Oxford Bookstores is looking forward for regular wikipedia workshops and other wikipedia events in the near future. --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 14:15, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bengali Wikipedia Meet-up in Kolkata edit

We are going to organize a meet-up for Bengali Wikipedia and other sister projects in Kolkata on first or second week of October. We want to discuss different issues and probable near-future projects related to Bengali Wikipedia, which we can execute in the next 6-12 months. We also want to discuss and plan accordingly regarding the utilization of Google-based newly-released Bengali OCR software in Bengali Wikisource as much as possible. The community has been informed in the Bengali Wikipedia village pump for necessary support. The main requirements to organize the event are 1) Meet-up space or conference hall 2) To and fro transport cost of Bengali Wikipedians outside Kolkata 3) Lunch and Snacks for participants and 4) Wi-Fi. I like to request CIS to help organize the event. Thanks, -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 06:53, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bodhisattwa, thanks for submitting this request.   A few questions and comments:

  1. Can you ask community members to endorse the request (the way other requests have been endorsed)?
  2. You have mentioned second of October. 12 October is en:Mahalaya and Durga Puja will start within a week? Have you finalized a date yet? Do you think community members will be free at that time to join then?
  3. The village pump post looks excellent. Could you please start (at least a short) page on Meta too and add a (possible) participants' list and draft program schedule like this?
  4. As far as I can understand, this is going to be a meet-up, is that correct? Or are you planning any edit-a-thon etc. too?

Regards. --TitoDutta 08:41, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Titoda, thanks for prompt response.
  1. A group mail has been sent to all community members to endorse the request.
  2. The tentative date of meet-up is 10th or 11th of October, 2015 (Saturday or Sunday). I hope community members will be free on that day as these are week-ends.
  3. I have started an event page in Bengali Wikipedia where community members will discuss about the possible list of agenda of the meet-up. Necessary details will be provided step by step as per discussion and consensus.
  4. It will be only a meet-up. No edit-a-thon etc. are planned. The event will be mainly organized to sit and discuss the relevant matters together and chalk out necessary plans, so that we can execute them objectively.

Titoda, I and Ranganda have estimated the grant for 15 Wikipedians and placed the request below. The fund, if approved, shall be transferred to my bank account. I will send details of my bank account in a separate mail to CIS-A2K.
proposed detailed budget
Item Cost (in  ) Description
Travel cost   2,000 Travel expenses for Wikipedians outside Kolkata to attend the conference
Food   5,000 Food from Oxford Book Store (venue of the meet-up)
Total   7,000 Approximate total expenditure
Titoda, I had a discussion with Ranganda about the food cost and discounts, if any. Food is expensive in Oxford Book store (sandwich cost Rs. 180/-) . Minimum cost of cup of tea is Rs. 50 in Oxford Book store and according to Ranganda, they will discount Rs. 10/- per cup for Wikipedians. Whether Oxford Book store authority will provide discount for food, is not yet asked for. Outside foods are not allowed. So, if we have to provide a sandwich and 2 cups of tea each for every Wikipedians, it will cost Rs. (180+40+40)/- =Rs. 280/- each. Now, for 15 people, it costs around Rs. 4200. If 2-3 more people joins the meet-up, it will cost around 5000/- in total. So, we have asked Rs. 5000/- to be safe. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 17:37, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Titoda, We also want to organise a session on 2 technical matters. 1) Development of a spell-check bot for Bengali Wikipedia. 2) Possible Integration of Google-OCR with Bengali Wikisource. It would be great if CIS can send a person, who can train, enrich and discuss with some of the Bengali Wikipedians who have prior tech knowledge. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 17:25, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello Bodhisattwa, it might be difficult for us, I'll forward this request. I want to ask you once question: could you tell me the works have been done with OCR recently? --TitoDutta 08:20, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Titoda, Google OCR is definitely a point of attention among Bengali Wikisource community. Please visit this page created by Jayantada where he has tried to provide a guideline on how to use it. Though I am not sure, but it is definitely not wrong to assume that the community may be using this OCR in Bengali Wikisource project recently. As you are aware that the Google OCR has created hope among all Indic language Wikisource community including Bengali one, we will try to discuss this agenda at our meet-up in spite of technical limitation from our side. Thanks. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 02:57, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bengali Wikipedia stall at Behala Book Fair, Kolkata edit

The Bengali Wikipedia community has decided to have a stall for outreach activities at the Greater Behala Book Fair in Kolkata scheduled to be held between 4 - 13 December 2015. The Bengali Wikipedia community has the previous experience of successful participation at the Kolkata Book Fair in 2014. However, because of the huge expense in renting a stall, the community has decided not to participate at the Kolkata Book Fair in near future. On the other hand the participation cost at book fairs held at the various regions of the city is quite affordable and the footfall at the fair is also considerable. Behala being a region, lesser cosmopolitan in comparison to other parts of the city, the Bengali Wikipedia community is targeting a focused Bengali-speaking audience for the event.

The details of the event are given below.

  • Date: 4 - 13 December 2015, 2 - 8 pm
  • Venue: Behala Blind School ground

Budget edit

The breakdown of the budget is given below.

Budget
Item Cost (in  ) Description
Stall Booking  4,000 Rent of stall (10 ft x 10 ft) at the fair
Stall Decoration  2,000 Cost of flex banners
Electric Equipment  3,000 One hired laptop for 10 days
Booklets  2,000 Bengali Wikipedia booklets
Staff  5,000 Compensation for staff
Food  5,000 Snacks for volunteers & staff
Miscellaneous  4,000 Unplanned expenses
Total  25,000 Approximate total expenditure

Thanks for letting us know about this event. :) Generally we expect to be informed at least 3-4 weeks before the event. I have a few questions:

  1. Have you created any event page on Bengali Wikipedia?
  2. According to you, how is this event going to help Bengali Wikipedia/Wikipedians/Bengali event? and the most important:
  3. Could you tell us about your plans in details -- what are you planning to do in this bookfair, such as, demonstrating Bengali Wikipedia, bringing new editors etc?
    Thanks.   --TitoDutta 22:13, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. :) I apologize for the late application for the grant. However, let me assure you that this is not a decision that we have taken in haste. We have been discussing about this event in email from the first week of November and we had booked the stall on 19 November. But because of our busy personal schedules, there has been some unnecessary delay. Please see the answer to your questions below.
  1. We have created it now. Please refer to [1].
  2. It will be an outreach program for the Bengali Wikipedia, Bengali Wikisource, Bengali Wiktionary and the GLAM initiatives. In this kind of book fair we'll get mostly Bengali speaking audience unlike the Kolkata Book Fair which is more cosmopolitan in nature. So there is a better chance of bringing in contributors to the Bengali language Wikimedia projects. Like the Kolkata Book Fair event of 2014, we are expecting an increase in the no. of users in the Bengali Wikipedia through this event. Last but not the least, we'll get more leads regarding GLAM initiatives in Kolkata. We've already had this experience in a WikiAcademy this year and we are hopeful of getting quality leads for GLAM initiatives.
  3. The basic plan is to demonstrate the Bengali Wikipedia. We'll have laptops and Internet connection at the stall and the volunteers present will provide hands on demo to the visitors. Apart from that, we are also selling the visitors a small booklet on how to edit Bengali Wikipedia. We are also planning to have some copies of the book by Bangladeshi Wikipedia N Hasive.
Thanks.   BengaliHindu (talk) 19:04, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Tito, even though we made the grant request for participation in the Greater Behala Book Fair, we have plans to participate in similar local book fairs around Kolkata. We are currently in talks with the organizers of Jadavpur Book Fair and we are internally discussing the possibility of participating in Dum Dum Book Fair. And of course, we would like to participate in the Greater Behala Book Fair in the next year. We'll document our plan and share you the link as soon as possible. Thank you.   BengaliHindu (talk) 12:10, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bengali Wikipedia stall at DumDum Book Fair 2016, Kolkata edit

After the successful enterprise of active participation in Greater Behala Book Fair in Kolkata held from 4th to 13th December 2015, the Bengali Wikipedia community has decided to take part in another prestigious and largely frequented book fair namely the DumDum Book Fair 2016. The fair will be held from 1st to 10th January, at the heart of very thickly populated South DumDum area.

DumDum Book Fair shall be a very prospective venue for us as it is a densely populated area inhabited by a vast majority of Bengali speaking people. The proximity of DumDum Junction Railway and DumDum Metro Station, B.T. Road and Jessore Road makes DumDum easily accessible to people of nearby districts by various means of transport.

We have hired a stall in the said book fair for outreach activities for projects like Bengali Wikipedia, Bengali Wikisource, Bengali Wikitionary, Wikimedia Commons and specially the GLAM. We are targeting prospective contributors and resourceful people with whom we can collaborate in near future with the aim of enriching the content of the Bengali Wikimedia and its sister projects.

The details of the event are given below:

  • Date: 1st to 10th January 2016
  • Time: 3pm-9pm
  • Venue: Indira Maidan, DumDum Road

Publication of Samskrit wiki Handbook edit

About the Handbook:

Samskrit Wiki community is planning to develop a handbook of about 24 pages. This book will give an introduction to Samskrit Wikimedia projects and also helps in learning basic Samskrit. This hand book would not only be a gateway for the wonderful world of Wikipedia to the new entrants but also will be a ready guide for the user and encourage him /her to converse in Sanskrit easily.

Samskrita Bharati is regularly conducting Samskrit Sambhashana Shibirams (Workshops for improving conversational skills in Sanskrit) throughout India and abroad since 1981. The response to these shibirams have been excellent. It is therefore our earnest desire to go forward and facilitate a larger number of people to learn more about wikiprojects by freely distributing these booklets.

Request to CIS:

The Samskrit Wikipedia community requests the CIS to Kindly approve the above proposal.

  2. Are they going to join Wikipedia as editors?
  3. How is your Handbook going to be different from other Sanskrit tutorials available on world wide web?
  4. How is this initiative going to help Wikipedia Sanskrit or Wikimedia movement?

Thanks   --TitoDutta 11:12, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Apology for late reply. Here are the some points, I want to clarify-
Who are the target-audience of this handbook?
We would like to distribute these handbooks to all the participants of 10 day spoken Samskrit classes. Samskrita Bharati conducts these classes all over the country and abroad. Usually 2000 such classes are conducted in each month. An average of 30 people take part in each class. Samskrita Bharati has planned to conduct State level conferences all over the country in the month of January and February'16. Therefore, we are planning to send the booklets to all the state conferences so that it will be distributed to all the participants of spoken Samskrit classes.
Are they going to join Wikipedia as editors?
First, we would like to concentrate on increasing the readership of sa_Wikipedia. As the readership increases, so would be number of editors and through them the number of articles and contributions. This would be a continuous process.
How is your Handbook going to be different from other Sanskrit tutorials available on world wide web?
Samskrita Bharati is teaching Samskrit in an innovative way through speak Samskrit classes where people would learn the language through conversation. Other Samskrit tutorials concentrate more on grammatical aspects. This hand book will contain basics of Samskrit learning.
How is this initiative going to help Wikipedia Sanskrit or Wikimedia movement?
Those who attend these conversation classes will get introduced to sa_wiki projects through this hand book. Since they are very enthusiastic in learning Samskrit they willingly visit wiki pages. This will lead them to join wikimedia movement.--Sayant Mahato (talk) 10:51, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Would it be possible for you to print this book in two or more additions? I know that this is a small and inexpensive book, but still, it is likely to be in circulation for a long time and I wish for it to give the best information. What is your publication plan? Could you do something like print and get feedback on 10,000 copies before printing the other 90,000? I worry about the reputation of Wikipedia and not at all about the cost.
Also - can you post the book online before you publish it?
Why is there no budget here for the design of the book? With a commitment to so many copies and the likelihood that some people will keep these copies for years I would want them to look good. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:17, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We have already stated that the hand book would be distributed to the participants of Spoken Samskrit camps. On an average 2000 such camps are conducted throughout India in a month and the average level of participation is 30 in each camp. During January/February 2016 every state conducts Annual Conference where all the Volunteers assemble. The handbooks would be distributed to the participants of camps. Therefore within a period of 3 months the entire stock of 1 Lakh copies would get distributed.--Sayant Mahato (talk) 11:01, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Discuss the design and content of the handbook with experts.
  2. After finishing the draft ask for community feedback, here you may upload the handbook on Wikimedia Commons.
  3. We feel, all 100,000 copies should not be printed immediately. Perhaps 5000 or 10000 copies at a time might be better. --TitoDutta 08:43, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The design and the contents of the hand book would be discussed with experts and would be posted online for review . The budget for the design is included in the estimate.
we have discussed with the concerned persons about the institutional collaboration which is very much required for the distribution of these handbooks and they have readily agreed to cooperate in this regard. Please let us know what CIS thinks about the number of copies to be published.--Sayant Mahato (talk) 11:30, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shooting sa. Video Lessons - Technical assistance required edit

In order to increase the level of contribution of articles in Sanskrit Wikipedia and sharpen the editing skills, we propose to make available video lessons to sa. Wikipedia cub editors. We understand similar video lessons are available in Hindi and Kannada language Wikipedia. We seek the invaluable assistance of CIS professionals to help Samskrit Wikipedia to shoot the video lessons, for which scripts, (similar to Hindi and Kannada wikipedia lessons ) are ready. --Narayanan V T (talk) 07:42, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for letting us know about this plan. Are you discussing it somewhere on Sanskrit Wikipedia. If "yes", could you share the page link(s)? I am forwarding this request to A2K and will keep you informed. :) --TitoDutta 11:42, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Grant request for Malayalam Wikimedia Anniversary Outreach program (Wikisangamotsavam 2015) edit

Malayalam Wikimedia community has come together once again to celebrate the annual outreach program for the popularization of the Wikimedia projects among general public. It is also an opportunity for the active and dormant volunteers to meet up and exchange ideas and strategies to further motivate among themselves. Due to various unexpected engagements of the active contributors and leads, the program has been planned and scheduled on a fast track mode.

This event, the 4th of its kind in magnitude and style, is scheduled to take place on 19th and 20th of December, adjoining to the actual anniversary of Malayalam Wikipedia's birth (22nd December 2002). After Kollam, Alappuzha and Kannur, this year it is happening in the historic city of Kozhikode, North Kerala. The details of the program can be seen at the event page created within Malayalam Wikipedia.

Being the most significant yearly event of Malayalam Wikimedia community, we require assistance from the A2K by way of all possible means. The detailed estimate and budget for the program is shown as following.

On behalf of the Malayalam Community, we request you to fund this requirement at the earliest.

Program Leads edit

1. Adarsh V.K. has been chosen as the convener of the event. He is an engineer-turned industrial finance consultant, now stationed at Kozhikode (Calicut). Besides being an ardent Wikipedia outreach spokesman since many years, he is also a popular writer with many books published on technology, entrepreneurship and renewable energy systems. He is regularly seen and heard on the Malayalam broadcast media as a valuable subject matter expert on these fields.

2. Dinesh Kumar, is a senior faculty of the college where the event is taking place. His enthusiasm for open knowledge and for use of digital resources for education together with his strong relations with the staff, students and other associates of the college will turn out to be a great advantage to the success of this program.

We have also formed an organizational committee to be responsible and to delegate the various functions and features of the program. The committee has opened up a bank account particularly for the event. Details of the bank account will be intimated to your office via a private e-mail message by the Chairman / treasurer.

Discussion edit

Hello, this is a significantly large request that takes more time from A2K and generally, at CIS-A2K, we take four weeks to discuss the funding request within the team for such high amount of fund. This request came really late where we do understand the internal community problems you might have faced. We might not be able to fund this request because of the late request. But we also have certain concerns:

  • Could you tell us expected outputs of this event?
  • How many active editors from Malayalam and other Indian Wikipedia communities you expect to join?
  • Are you going to bring new editors on board?
  • Are you going to upload photos on Wikimedia Commons?
  • How does it fit with Wikimedia's strategic priorities?
  • Could you tell us about the pre-events you have planned? --TitoDutta 09:44, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Tito,

At the outset, let us, Malayalam Wikimedians en mass, thank you for the prompt and kind queries. While it is admitted that a grant request was made much too late, we could solicit and gather among ourselves only during the last few weeks. Nevertheless, we are very optimistic that CIS would and will help us run this event successfully as you have always been very considerate and sympathetic towards our programs.

On behalf of the team, I would attempt to answer your concerns:

Expected outputs edit

  • As you may have observed from the statistics and logs, the activity and growth within of Malayalam Wikimedia projects, have been slowly deteriorating for some time now, although not as disastrous as it could have, despite the many technological and digital infrastructural challenges faced by Wikimedia environment like everywhere else. The current set of active volunteers in ml WM projects have determined that the mission could be helped with a boosted motivation and energy by conducting yet another edition of WikisangamOtsavam (WS) this year, as we have been doing since last four years.
  • The WS-2015 event is targeted towards re-establishing the erstwhile great team of Malayalam Wikipedian volunteers by calling onto each one among them and re-emerge as a sustainable force again. Besides gathering those dormant and semi-active editors, the event is also looking forward to introduce Wikipedia to a new set of potential editors and readers, particularly with a strong focus on the local region of Kozhikode and other Northern districts of Kerala. With the suitable digital ecology currently available at the region, we are hopeful of transforming a significant number of newly emerging rural and urban users of Kozhikode district including School and college students, teachers, library personnel and others.
[Under the leadership of the young and popular District Collector N. Prasanth whose personal drive has initiated several novel projects, w:Operation Sulaimani one among them ( [2], Kozhikode has been in regular news and media lime light recently for the digital interaction between its administration and citizens. The Collector, with support from many eminent personalities of the city, have been corroborating about a new concept "Kozhipedia" [3], a citizen forum structured along the Mediawiki culture. This initiative is already gaining fast momentum among the public. For the Wikimedia community and Kozhipedia project, this is the optimal occasion and opportunity to work together to ensure sure and precise pinnacle of success.]
  • During and immediately after the event, we expect to increase the active editor count by at least 100, apart from rejuvenating all our dormant editors. This figure could be anything higher if the program could make it to local news headlines and social networks as a viral propagation.
  • Besides the active editor count, the event is also a meeting point for the aspiring agents for many digitization projects currently emerging within Malayalam and Kerala circles. These include both public and institutional libraries, museums, academies and press archives. At present, these efforts are not coherent enough. Lack of a symbiotic collaboration among them have been resulting in redundant technical and logistic efforts. We plan to bring together and share all available technical and administrative know-how among us, the Wikimedia community spearheading the task.
  • We are also hoping to form an umbrella organization among such partners with WM community taking a lead roll in guidance and programming.
  • The online version of a news article already published by the leading Malayalam daily Manorama can be seen here.

Editor count edit

  • The event is designed to call in at least 30 active editors from other parts of Kerala and another 30 active or dormant editors from Kozhikode region itself. Besides this, another 100 participants will be attending the two day event, of whom a large percentage is expected to become new editors.

New editors edit

  • As we have learnt from similar programmes before, we can earnestly anticipate a surge in the new editor count during, just before and after the event. This characteristic is the output of the media news and exposure of the Wikisangamotsavam event itself and the associated fresh awareness about Wikipedia among the common public.

More assets to Wikimedia Commons edit

  • Certainly, there will be a large count of photographs and other media that will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Specific sessions are being held to guide attendees on how to upload photos to Commons, how to identify, define or transfer copyrights and how to embed such media into WP articles. In addition, there is going to be at least one photo-expedition in and around Kozhikode city with special attention on its history, heritage and culture.

Pre-conference events edit

  • There has already been two preparatory events that took place in Kozhikode, one in September at Farook College and other in December at College of Applied Sciences. Further, we are planning (1)another session in this week at the venue institution for volunteer build-up and editing training (2) a pre-event photowalk and (3) an Online intensive editing campaign.
  • At the Malayalam Wikipedia, an intensive editing event is already going on, focusing on the articles regarding Malabar called Malabar Edit-a-thon, the ancient name of Coastal North Kerala since time immemorial.

We are only happy to supplement the above with further information, should you seek any such.

With great anticipation, --ViswaPrabhaവിശ്വപ്രഭtalk 13:17, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Response from CIS-A2K edit

Thanks for this request. Because of paucity of time A2K won't be able to support this request. If you want A2K team can help you apply for PEG. --TitoDutta 05:46, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
As we informed you earlier, we expect to be informed at least 3-4 weeks prior to an event, otherwise it becomes very very difficult for us to complete the entire process of discussing, reviewing, providing suggestion(s) and attending the request.

This is relatively a larger request in comparison to the other requests we receive on this request page, so initially we were unsure whether we would be ale to do anything here in a short notice. On the other hand we understood that this was going to be important for your community, so we have tried to work very hard and thanks for your active participation as well.

I want to inform you that the A2K team will be providing both the Wikisangamotsavam 2015 and the Swag materials supports.

Please note, reporting and documentation is a very important part of an event. Unless a community work on reports or ensure that they will be submitting detailed reports for upcoming events, we can not help them. We hope that you'll be working on detailed reports and documentation. Financial assistance for SWAG materials for Malayalam Wikimedia Outreach 2015-2016 edit

We request CIS-A2K to provide a grant of Rs.70,000/- to help us print or prepare the following SWAG items. These material are intended to be gifted to attendees of various Wikimedia outreach programs and exceptionally performing editors during the current year. As we are conducting Wikisangamotsavam-2015 on 19th and 20th December at Kozhikode, we expect the peak demand and effective utilization of the SWAG material during this period.

Malayalam Wikimedia WikiHandbook Qty:200@₹60 = ₹12000
The Malayalam Handbook, a guide for the Wikimedia project participation for new users compiled by experienced senior ml Wikipedians have been quite popular and helpful among potential wikiusers of Kerala, since more than 5 years now. Every year, we continue to update this valuable outreach resource. The book is printed into some 60+ pages on moderate quality paper at economy costs. Though no number of copies of this book ever seem to suffice to meet the real public demand, we require at least 200 copies to be printed immediately.
Wikimedia T-Shirts Qty: 150 @₹300 = ₹45000
Considering the need to print with Malayalam logo and in some customized fashion and also considering the prohibitory cost of logistics, we would prefer to get these supplied locally from a qualified vendor after thorough evaluation.
WikiPen Qty: 200@₹10 = ₹2000
Crafted by village women as a cottage industry venture, we have identified these simple pens made of recycled paper and conspicuously marked with Wikipedia logo to be very attractive, effective and low-cost.
Wikipedia logo Stickers Qty:500@₹10 = 5000
Wikipedians and student community cherish these logos and retain them on books, mobile phones and notebooks on long term.
Posters for Exhibition Qty:60@₹60 = 3600
We have been regularly conducting poster exhibitions during Malayalam Wikimedia outreach programs. These posters, typically printed on A3 size paper and fixed on thicker board sheets, comprise of Wikimedia logos, simple editing tips and salient Wikipedia statistics. These are reusable for several events.
Mementos & Souvenirs Qty:5@₹500 = ₹2500
These mementos prominently decorated with Wikipedia logo are crafted by order, and is intended to be presented to very eminent and distinguished persons who are courteous enough to heed our invitation and attend our programs as chief guests.

You may kindly provide the funds for this material ASAP. It will be convenient and secure if the amount is received at the special bank account opened by the Wikisangamotsavam-2015 Committee specifically for conducting that program.

Discussion edit

Thanks for letting is know about this initiative.   We may support anything other than the handbook. About the handbook we are curious to ask a few questions

  1. Have you discussed/are you going to discuss the content of the handbook with your community/experts?
  2. Before printing, could you upload a copy of this handbook on Wikimedia Commons (or do you already have copy on Commons)?

Thanks   --TitoDutta 10:47, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • The hand book was already printed a first edition. The content also discussed with the community. A PDF is already available on the Commons. We are making a second edition of the same becuase the copies are exhausted now. --Ranjithsiji (talk) 17:32, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dear Tito, it is quite surprising to me that you are unaware of the famous 'Wikipedia Handbook', a great work compiled and maintained by the ml community since many years. I myself have talked about it several times during our TTT sessions, ICC2014 and many meetings with the A2K-CIS team.
In fact, it is hightime, we consider translate, refine, update and publish this work in all Indian / Indic languages and distribute massively.   - ViswaPrabhaവിശ്വപ്രഭtalk 18:14, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Funding request for a laptop to Odia wikipedian edit

  • About the project: I am contributing to Odia Wikipedia since last one year. I would like to create an Odia Wikipedia community in Delhi and meet with them in regular intervals of 15 days/one month period. Inform them about Odia Wikipedia and other odia wiki projects and how to edit and teach them how to type in odia. Encourage school and college students to participate in the meetings. For conducting the workshops the laptop will be used. This will help us to increase community volunteers for Odia Wikipedia.

--Pmsarangi (talk) 09:25, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We, wikipedians are trying to increase new as well as regular editors in Odia Wikipedia. For this we have to form groups in various regions and to keep in touch with them personally, telephonically or online.

In Delhi approx. about 20 lakhs odia people are staying. Some of them are well conversant in Odia, but don’t know how to type or use Odia on a computer and some only speak but are not able to write. We want to make small groups of about 5-7 people and meet them regularly once in a moth, to inform, interact and discuss about Odia Wikipedia, its projects, various developments made during the period and new ideas/initiatives to be taken to improve it further, etc.

In an initiative, through our e-learning Odia centres, which are currently running in Chattarpur, Tyagraj Nagar and Mehrauli, where the volunteers teach, odia language, to all school and college going non-resident odia students, every Sunday for two hours at no cost. We can involve these students in Odia Wikipedia for typing/scanning/converting old books and correcting mistakes in already available books & articles. In this way these students can stay in touch with their mother tongue and also increase their vocabulary skills in the language.

This laptop can be used in the following Wikipedia activities:

• To Conduct workshops and training programmes • Interact with other outstation wikipedians online • Volunteers who don’t have access to a Personal Computer/laptop • Volunteers who wants to use after office hours or on holidays

Hello Titodutta, Please find above the English translation of the discussion we had in our Odia community. thanks & regards.--Pmsarangi (talk) 05:08, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for your detailed reply. We understand that this could be helpful to you to improve your Wikipedia community. CIS-A2K does not provide such support. So we can not promise anything at this moment. -- -- Tito Dutta (talk) 08:03, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
