#100wikidays edit

Hello Bodhi.
I noticed you published your first article of your #100wikidays challenge : welcome on board.
You should add yourself to the list of the participants.
All the best. Trace (talk) 08:13, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Trace, actually this is my second attempt and I had already listed myself on my first attempt. As I don't like to create incomplete articles, it was very difficult for me to create a full article in one day and go on for 100 days. So I left the challenge previously. Lets see, for how many days, I can stick to the challenge this time. :-) Bodhisattwa (talk) 15:18, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review edit

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

Wikimania 2016: IdeaLab Workshops edit

Wikimania 2016 is almost here! Mjohnson (WMF) and I are running two workshops for IdeaLab during the conference, and you are invited to join us for either (or both!)

If you have a proposal or idea you are thinking about, and would like a space to work on it on your own or with others, please consider joining us for either the Thursday or Saturday sessions. We'll discuss a little about IdeaLab and how it works, and the rest of the time is space for idea building. You can also use this session to ask questions about Wikimedia Foundation grants that are available if your proposal or idea may need funding. Thanks, and see you at the conference! Netherlands and the World Exchange Platform is online edit

Dear Bodhisattwa,

In the past you've expressed interest in the project Netherlands and the World. We would like to draw your attention to the launch of the Netherlands and the World Exchange Platform. Please find more details below:

Wikimedia Nederland launches the Netherlands and the World Exchange Platform. The platform aims to stimulate global re-use of Dutch collections on non-European cultural heritage. In particular, it aims to stimulate collections on countries with which the Netherlands have had historical ties. These countries include Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Ghana, Suriname, South Africa, and others.

The platform also aims to foster contacts between Dutch cultural heritage institutions and Wikimedia contributors across the globe. However, participation is not limited to Wikimedia contributors. Anyone can participate, making it relevant for education and research as well.

Key properties:

  • Dutch heritage institutions can post offers on (parts of) their collections that are relevant to non-European countries
  • Wikimedia contributors gain insight in the contents of Dutch collections and can make requests for digitalisation.
  • Knowledge exchange and cooperation are key concepts.

The platform is easy to use. After registration, users can post offer/requests notices, depending on whether they are looking for material, or want to offer material for re-use. Statistics on re-use are also available.

The Netherlands and the World Exchange Platform is part of the program The Netherlands and the World. This program is supported by Wikimedia Nederland and aims to make available knowledge and content on non-European countries.

Training modules: Can you help us with translation? edit

Hello Bodhisattwa, hope all is well! As you may know, we at the Wikimedia Foundation's Support and Safety team are developing new training materials to help contributors deal with online harassment situations, and with problems at real life events. The final English version is now finished!

I'm wondering if you would be willing to help us translate content for these Training Modules into your language. We are targeting a minimum of ten languages for these modules, including the English original.

If the answer is yes, please let me know with a ping, or just get stuck in - either way, we would really appreciate your support! Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 18:09, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Feedback Netherlands the World Exchange Platform requested edit

Dear Bodhisattwa,

In the past, you've expressed an interest in the project The Netherlands and the World. As part of the project, the Netherlands and the World Exchange Platform went online in April 2017. A few months later, we would now like to collect some feedback on the platform:

  • If you’ve signed up on the platform but never got around to using it, or if you looked at the platform but didn’t sign up, we would like to hear about that.
  • If you’ve never heard of the Netherlands and the World Exchange Platform before, we would like to hear about that too.
  • In general, we are also interested to get feedback about the platform itself. So, whether you’ve already had a look at it, or just learned about it from this email, we would appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to browse the website and share with us your thoughts on its purpose, the available functionality, the layout, things that you’re missing that should be there, suggestions, etc.

Feel free to share your thoughts on my talk page, this mailing list or email me directly if you don’t want to share your thoughts in public. Your feedback will be invaluable to help us decide how to move forward with the Netherlands and the World Exchange Platform.

Thank you!

Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.

We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on Measuring Community Health edit

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:13, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Since our user group has some difficulties to communicate (not everyone sees the messages that are posted on Talk:Wiktionary/Tremendous_Wiktionary_User_Group), I asked for a dedicated forum for the TWUG to be opened. It's happening here (there is no topic so far).

From now on, I invite you to follow the category to be informed as soon as a new topic is created. Pamputt (talk) 18:59, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Community Wishlist Survey 2020 edit

Hello!

You are getting this message because you've previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey, in either the Wikisource or Wiktionary categories. I wanted to let you know that this year's survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until November 11. Unlike previous years, we are only accepting proposals for non-Wikipedia content projects with no dedicated teams (i.e., Wikibooks, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikiversity, Wikispecies, Wikivoyage, and Wikinews). You can learn more on the survey page.

You can vote on proposals from November 20 to December 2. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won't send out a separate reminder to you about that. We look forward to your participation. Thank you! IFried (WMF) (talk) 18:52, 22 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

What does Wikisource need most? edit

Hi Bodhi -

Your advocacy of Wikisource just about every time we've met has persuaded me that it's the project I'd most like to support in the community wishlist voting. I don't, however, have a good sense of which improvements would bring the greatest reward/be most appreciated by the Wikisource community. Could you give me some hints? Thanks very much! Risker (talk) 03:18, 22 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Risker:, thanks for considering to support Wikisource in the community wishlist voting. Personally, I find the following proposals will have great impact, if approved.
Apart from the above points, I like the following proposals as if they get solved would ease our lives in Wikisource.
Most of the other wishes are also important, but these are my personal choices. Thanks again. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 14:57, 22 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot for these suggestions, Bodhisattwa. I've supported them all. Let's hope that at least a few of them surface to the top of the list, fingers crossed! Risker (talk) 05:06, 26 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Risker:, Thank you for your kind support. That means a lot to the entire Wikisource community. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 07:10, 26 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello!

I let you this message because you are part of the (very dynamic) Tremendous Wiktionary User Group!

Invitation to affiliate members to complete a survey about WMF wide Universal Code of Conduct edit

Hello; My name is Mervat, and I am helping the Trust and Safety team to reach out to affiliates in order to discuss the Universal Code of Conduct.

There has been talks about the need for a global set of conduct rules in different communities over time, and finally, Wikimedia Foundation Board announced a Community Culture Statement, enacting new standards to address harassment and promote inclusivity across projects.Since the universal code of conduct that will be a binding minimum set of standards across all Wikimedia projects, will apply to all of us, staff and volunteers alike, all around the globe, and will impact our work as groups, individuals and projects, it’s of great importance that we all participate in expressing our opinions and thoughts about UCoC, its nature, what we think it should cover or include and what it shouldn’t include; how it may develop, drawback or help our groups.   This is the time to talk about it. As you are a valuable contributor to the Wikimedia movement, your voice counts. Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we would like to hear from you; We invite you to devote some minutes to take this survey; your answers will help us create a safer environment for all on Wikimedia:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd36dNdU3C5shXEkKp9itJOhuCTx9hZE5AE-xflkxtfRMnZtg/viewform?usp=pp_url

It’s possible that you are a member of more than one affiliate; hence you may receive this survey more than once, and you may have participated previously in the discussions or filled out a previous survey during the first round of consultations about UCoC which targeted wikipedia/wikimedia communities. We apologize for this; it is really difficult to identify if a wikimedian belongs to multiple groups that work to spread free knowledge. Looking forward to your thoughts and opinions and hoping that you can respond within the next 2 weeks.  If you have any questions about the surveys or difficulties accessing the link, please contact me by email (msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org)Results will be considered during the drafting process for the UCoCThank you for your participation

Wikisource Pagelist Widget - First Iteration Feedback edit

Hello everyone,

I am pleased to announce that Wikisource Pagelist Widget is now available on Beta Wikisource. We need your help in testing the widget and providing feedback.

You can test the widget by editing the following Index page on Beta Wikisource:

https://en.wikisource.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Index:War_and_Peace.djvu

There is a new ‘Preview pagelist’ button under the pagelist field. Click it to get a preview, and then click on any page number in the preview to open the widget.

You can also create a fresh Index Page for any other PDF or DjVu from Wikimedia Commons and test it.

We need your feedback on the following questions:

  • What is your general opinion about the Pagelist Widget?
  • Is it obvious how to use the widget? If not, what is difficult to understand?
  • What other changes would you like to suggest in order to improve the widget further?

Please provide your feedback on the Project Talk Page on Meta-Wiki.

P.S. - The widget doesn’t work on Local Uploads in Beta Wikisource as of now (due to phab:T257807).

MassMessage timestamp edit

Hi, I'm reaching out to you because you've used Special:MassMessage here in the last couple of months. In phab:T270435 there's a discussion about how to be able to use MassMessage when using the new "Page to be sent as a message" function, which would require an easier way of adding a timestamp. My suggestion is to add it automatically, since MassMassages are going out to discussion pages of different kinds, and should be timestamped. If you have a workflow where you don't want your message to be timestamped, please let me now on my talk page or in the Phabricator ticket. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 14:15, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to participate in Universal Code of Conduct survey - WikiWomen's User Group edit

(You are receiving this message as you signed your interest to participate as part of the WikiWomen's User Group)

Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.

As you know, the WMF Board of Trustees ratified the Universal Code of Conduct early in February. That's the beginning; the policy itself cannot be used if the enforcement pathways are not defined. The implementation and enforcement of the UCoC requires the continuous cooperation to define clear definitions of enforcement pathways and processes. This needs to be done in a way that does not contradict with the internal bylaws and codes of conduct currently in place, but rather to support them and complement their deficiencies, if any.

In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:

Notice: This survey will be conducted via a third-party service, which may subject it to additional terms. For more information on privacy and data-handling, see the survey privacy statement <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/UCoC_Affiliates_Survey_Privacy_Statement>.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org.

A huge thank you from the Celtic Knot organizing team (Richard, Daria and myself) for preparing the editing campaigns workshop at the conference! Even if you couldn't attend in the end, we truly appreciate the work and dedication you put in the preparation phase and we still want you to receive a little gift.

To show our appreciation, we would like to give you this barnstar - feel free to use it anywhere you want, for example on your userpage.

I’m looking forward to work with you on future events and projects! Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 10:51, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Lea Lacroix (WMDE):, thanks for the kindness, but since I had to remove myself at the last moment, I think, I don't deserve any barnstar. :-) Anyways, we will definitely work together in future events and projects and I hope I can add more value then than this time. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 12:16, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

August happenings

  • We held two community conversations, one in person at Wikimania 2022/Pittsburgh and one virtual during a Wikimedians in Residence Exchange Network meeting.
    • During both meetings we discussed final design of View it!, and results refinement and querying. Check the August updates for notes from both meetings.
  • View it! is working across all Wikimedia projects, and we are currently working on multi-lingual functionality.

Coming in September

  • Currently plan to focus development on multilingialism, on-wiki/editor features for the user script, and extending the search functions on Toolforge.
  • We are continuing to respond to user feedback and finalizing design.

Action to take

  • Install Beta script and see how it can used to add new images to articles.
  • All editors are invited to share the tool with their local wiki communities, or incorporate it into relevant local templates, such as infoboxes. If you do so, please let us know about it, so we can ensure backwards compatibility for that use case as we continue development!
  • Feel free to leave comments on our Discussion page

September/October Happenings

  • View it! now has advanced search option on Toolforge, simply toggle on to enable searching with a different property constraint, free text, specific resolution, and quality assessment.
  • Advanced search allows for searching by Commons Categories which have an associated P373.
    • Commons Category search will also show sub-categories for more specific results.

Coming Soon

  • We are releasing a new version of View it! that will implement some of the Toolforge functionality into the on-Wiki experience.
  • We are thinking about ways for View it! results to show up on page as an image grid, gallery or other form, without leaving the page. Please let us know what your idea/preference is.
  • Integrating editor features such as the ability to add an image from View it! or remove a faulty statement.

Action to take

View it! has been expanded and will have an official launch demo session Jan. 12th edit

Goat View it! results
View it! Tool update Jan. 2023

Big news, View it! users! Over the last two months, View it! has been expanded to two versions. Our new full version shows images within the wiki content page, and the "View" tab displays a gallery of images without leaving the site you are on, as you can see at right. We have rebranded the original version, which utilizes the "View" tab to link to our Toolforge search results, to "Lite". We invite you to switch to full version and try it out! Major changes:

  • The full version includes an image carousel on each content page (at the top, under the article navigation buttons) which can be expanded for pagination.
  • You may notice the "View" button has moved to between the "Read" and "Edit" buttons - the View button is in the same place for both versions and we felt this was a better placement for editors.
  • In full version, clicking the "View" tab will take you to a full-screen gallery.

Action to take

Thank you for being a part of the View it! journey and please join us for the launch on January 12th!

As a reminder, you can view details about how to install the View it! user script or use the Toolforge tool on our meta page. Please use the talk page to contact us with comments or issues.

Reminder: the guide to using Baserow, presented during the Wikimedia Summit.

Hi! I'm contacting you as one of the participants in the Wikimedia Summit 2022, to kindly ask for your feedback through a 5-10 minute survey to evaluate 'Baserow' (note: the survey is on a Google form).

Baserow was a tool through which participants in the Summit co-created a database of Movement Strategy activities. We hope to learn from you how useful it may be to keep using it in the future to help document and connect on Movement Strategy work.

You are welcome and encouraged to fill out the survey in any language. Your feedback would be very appreciated --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 14:24, 16 February 2023 (UTC).Reply

Global message delivery/Targets/WLM India edit

Hi Bodhisattwa, I saw this edit [1] when patrolling recent changes. Why did you create a mass message list with 11000+ users who never agreed to receive your messages? I randomly checked some of the entries, most accounts appear to be inactive for many years and rarely ever edited. Example: This user [2] edit three times in 2017 and is for some reason on your mass message list [3], same as this user who edited twice in 2013 [4][5]. Johannnes89 (talk) 11:34, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Johannnes89:, thanks for sharing your concern. We have sent the message to all photographers who have ever uploaded at least one photograph for Wiki Loves Monuments in India since its inception. This message was meant to let them know about the start of the new iteration of the competition this year, so that they can join again if they want. This kind of mass message is a common practice for different photo-competition organizers from around the world to bring back some of the photographers who are not active anymore, but might find this kind of call as an opportunity to contribute again. I agree that the number of recipients for this particular message has been considerably high and from your message, I have realized that it is not wise to call participants from distant past. Please be assured, that, I will review the list again to target participants only from the recent years from now on. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 12:30, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Both examples which I provided never uploaded a picture for Wiki Loves Monuments in India?
@APatro (WMF) is it possible to use your script from phab:T323192 to mass unsubscribe inactive users from global message delivery lists as well? Johannnes89 (talk) 13:13, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Johannnes89:, Hmm, no...but we could create something similar for the MassMessage extension. Functionally they would be similar and a some of the code could be reused. Feel free to create a task, and we can take it from there.
