hi
editI see that you removed this from the notice board; Thought this might interest you, before this aticle was neutral and list all point of views, someone removed all the sources of the article including large amounts of information and references, and turned it into this essay format of their personal beliefs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Egyptian_race_controversy I don't know what to call this other than racism and a certain group of admins (who always end up on race topics or bring up races) banding together to abuse their power (manly user Paul Barlow, dougweller and Dbachmann) there is so much administrator abuse going on wiki. There need to be some kind of noticeboard to report it76.118.238.21 15:52, 18 June 2009 (UTC) This is not even the half of what they have done. They randomly remove sourced information and references on articles about african and middle eastern people and history. I was looking for a place to report it, I can not put it on the wiki admin notice board because. It is the same group of editors on the Admin notice boards when they see a complaint about themselves or a friend they remove it76.118.238.21 17:10, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- English Wikipedia has local administratorrs, and Stewards can not interfere with en.wikipedias local problems. Contact enwikis administrator noticeboard. If they can't do anything about it, noone can. Laaknor 17:37, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Request for global bot policy and global bot

testwiki
editHi, please remember that testwiki does have it's own (lightweight) approval process for request for adminship. Users who wish to have tools on testwiki may place a request on their request page or ask a local bureaucrat. Even though it's not a "normal" local project, it is better to allow those users to make such decisions themselves. Thanks. — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 02:58, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Northern Sámi wikipedia and continual vandalism
editHi, I'm not sure if you can help me with this, but is there any possibility of blocking 79.* for some time or disabling anon user contributions on the Northern Sámi wikipedia? There are very few active users there and almost all my time in the last couple of months has gone to reverting the vandalism by an Italian IP that changes every couple of days. User Laaknor on hr wiki multiple error
editYour edit dated 22:40, 6. rujna (September) 2009. on hr wiki is really a vandalism, because that edit is triple mistake:
* en: Requests for the bot flag should be made on this page. This wiki uses the standard bot policy, and allows global bots and automatic approval of certain types of bots. Other bots should apply below.
- edit was on wrong page, right page is Wikipedija:Botovi/Zahtjevi za status (you can check where leads interwiki from en wiki: Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval)
- edit is factually wrong, hr wiki allows global bots, but has no automatic approval
- at end of edit is added image Datoteka:Primjer.jpg (when namespace is translated from hr to en gives: ).
As you are steward, I suppose that you had good intentions, but you was tired or something. Please take more care in future, because steward edits are automatically patrolled, and it is not easy for us to detect steward errors. SpeedyGonsales 14:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, okey, I'm sorry. As you might have seen on this edit, there where a lot of wikis I went through yesterday, so I probably just lost something in my notes as I was going though all the wikis that got implemented. Laaknor 14:18, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Bureaucrat but not Sysop
editHej, Laaknor!
-- Lavallen 07:09, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of an Article in the Saterland Frisian Wikipedia
editI'm an administrator in the Saterland Frisian Wikipedia, and I am not happy, that users from Meta delete an article in our Wikipedia with the justification "crosswiki spam". We are able to delete spam articles ourselves, if we want, but if a spam article is already advanced and no spam anymore, why should we delete this article and why should we tolerate, that users from Meta, who even do not understand Saterland Frisian - and therefor are not able to differentiate between spam and good articles - interfere in our Wikipedia project? I had already advanced the article, and later it was deleted! But I have undeleted it now. I do not tolerate this. However - it was interesting for me to read your justification. Perhaps I will change my mind, but I don't think so. You can contact me on my user talk in the Saterland Frisian Wikipedia. --RAVEN FROM PITCH MAKER'S CREEK 19:15, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- I understand, this can happen. But it is still a riddle for me, that I removed the "speedy deletion request" while I advanced the article and still the article was obviously still on the list of rubbish articles. I think it would be easier for you and better for us to send a message automatically to the administrators of the wikipedias. I'm not good at technology, but I think this should be possible.
- Greetings,--RAVEN FROM PITCH MAKER'S CREEK 22:08, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
Clarification
editA minor clarification Re: this comment of yours - Jimmy was acting in his capacity as Founder (itself a reason to discuss with him and not overrule), not on behalf of the Board. The Board has expressed no opinion on the recent drama on Wikiversity; Jimmy simply brought the matter to the attention of the Board when he deleted the page and blocked privatemusings. –SJ+ 22:28, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

About global bot policy on iswiki
editHi, you added iswiki as being allowed by global bots. It isn't, and never was. So I've reverted the edit.
This is the Icelandic Wikipedia's bot policy, and this is how it looked like at the time of your edit. If there's anything in our documentation that suggest that global bots are allowed I'd love to hear about it, so that I can fix it.
Thanks. --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 18:34, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- The request was asked for in this section, and per the standardrequest that is used on every wiki "I hope to implement in one week if there is no objection", it was requested after > 1 week without objection. I'm sorry I didn't check the words on the is:Project:Bot policy, but the procedure that is used on every wiki was followed (as much as anyone that doesn't understand the language can do). Laaknor 20:10, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've changed the redirect on iswiki. That page was interwiki linked from en:Wikipedia:Bot policy, which at the time it was written was the canonical place to interwiki bot requests. The layout of the English/meta projects has changed since then, and the link to our bot policy was obviously lost in the process.
- Anyway, I fixed the page here on meta and those redirects. Hopefully that'll be enough for others to find our bot page in the future. --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 10:29, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Fundraising Translators
editHi Laaknor, my name is Deniz and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be your liaison between the Norwegian community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort, we recognize that banner messages that perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences. I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project, translating messages into Norwegian and suggesting messages that would appeal to Norwegian readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. Please let me know if you'd be interested in helping with this project, and add your feedback to the proposed messages as well! I look forward to working with you during this year's fundraiser. --Dgultekin 21:54, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Question
editHi Laaknor, sorry to bother you but since you are the person who removed my en-Wikipedia admin rights, maybe you're the person to ask: do I still have access to #en-wikipedia-admins on Freenode? I don't seem to -- when I /invite myself it says I don't have that privilege, but it may be that it thinks I am a new person (I hadn't been on Freenode in years, I have a different computer now and I think I might have re-registered myself or something.) I am not to savvy on this stuff so I can't tell. Anyway, my understanding is that as a former admin I retain access #en-wikipedia-admins as a courtesy. Herostratus 05:27, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
- That policy has changed. Former admins generally do not retain access to said channel. Tiptoety talk 06:05, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not familiar with that channel, so I have no idea, but I hope Tiptoetys answer is good enough. Laaknor 06:45, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
- Oh OK, thanks Tiptoey (and Laaknor). Yes this is entirely satisfactory, I didn't know that the policy had changed. Not a problem as I don't have any real need or desire for access, was just wondering. Herostratus 02:34, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Translation Update
editI want to thank you for your help translating throughout this year's fundraiser. The fundraiser has greatly benefited from all your contributions. Currently, the Kartika, Liliaroja, Abbas and Joan Gomà appeals need to be translated, as we are running appeals from editors. You can find all translation requests at the translation hub on meta and you can follow the progress of the fundraiser in real time by tracking the fundraiser statistics. It is important to check the Core Messages as many languages still need updating. Also if you haven't already, you can subscribe to the translators-l mailing list for all new requests and major changes. Many thanks for your help in truly making this a global fundraiser that you can edit.Klyman 19:46, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

editI post this Q in english if anybody else know the answer!
http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allusers&augroup=bot gives a list of bots.
But how do I find the global bots (by the API)? -- Lavallen 13:33, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- I tested this, but it gave nothing.
- I expected to find something like this, but no! -- Lavallen 14:28, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Global user/global rights is an extension, so I'm not sure how well integrated it is with the rest of MediaWiki on this. You could probably talk to Victor, he probably knows how this works (having written a lot of code for the extension...). Laaknor 15:04, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Translator, We need you!
editDear Laaknor,
You have helped us in previous years with translations and for that we are most grateful. Now we turn towards the 2011/12 fundraiser. It may seem forever away, but work has already begun getting everything ready to go. This year we want to have landing pages covering as many countries in as many languages as possible.
Right now, we want to figure out who is interested in translating for the fundraiser. This year we're hoping to have more of a solidified "core" group of translators that we can count on to have work done by a few key dates, but we'd also welcome help from people who are willing to just help out when they can.
If you would be interested please take a look at this little sign-up survey and fill it out http://survey.wikimedia.org/index.php?sid=13638&newtest=Y&lang=en. With that we can start building a list of people and filling any gaps in the languages we serve.
Many Thanks

Interwiki sorting order
editCan You help us spread the news to the developer of pywikipedia, that Swedish Wikisource has changed Interwiki sorting order to "By order of alphabet, based on local language", the same as Swedish Wikipedia? -- Lavallen 14:15, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Answer to your vote on steward elections
edit- You've done great work all the time I've worked with you, but failing to get adminrights on home wiki is problematic for me. Not sure what I should vote. Laaknor 09:33, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Laaknor. Thanks for saying that we've done some great work together, that's a plesure :). But I have to admit that I don't understand your position. I first want to underline the fact that frwiki was but is no more my main wiki (most of my contributions are from here because my account is older, and because maintenance stuff helps). In the answer to the question Trijnstel asked me in question page, I answered that I no more want to be a sysop here. I understood in my last sysop election that proposing my help is useless here, because a minority will always opposing me, just because of the fact that I got a small percentage of supports at the previous election (which is not an argument but an endless loop)... That's why I prefer to offer my help as a steward, that will me in my opinion much more helpful. -- Quentinv57 (talk) 15:18, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- The problem is that steward-rights automatically gives you sysop-rights on all wikis, including home wiki(s). How can we give you rights, that the local community doesn't want you to have? Saying that you no longer want rights, that you asked for just two months ago, is in my view too short a time, and just looks like you're mad on the frwiki community. I do wish I could support you, but having the support of home wiki-projects (at least when the project is a large working community) is one of the few policies I have when evaluating steward candidates. Laaknor 15:46, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- I understand what you fear. But even if I will have technically the sysop rights on frwiki, I won't have the right to use it, and I won't use it at all (the same way I won't use it on others GS-opted-out projects). Moreover, I'm not mad on the frwiki community because people opposed my candidacy (I saw just that as a refusal of my help, nothing more), I'm just really sad to see that the community is turning in a civil war, which is really a mess for this project really promising for its content. -- Quentinv57 (talk) 16:21, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Patrollog tool
editPatrollog tool (toolserver.org/~laaknor/patrollog.php) is not working for a month (approximately). Can you take a look what's wrong?--MaGa (talk) 11:54, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- I've fixed it now. Was a change in how MediaWiki logs patrols apparantly. Laaknor (talk) 20:24, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. I appreciate it!--MaGa (talk) 21:48, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Query
editHi Laaknor. Is it possible, via TS, to get a list of these files and these others which are unused/unliked? Meta:Deletion policy doesn't allow speedy deletion of these if they're used anywhere, but I have the impression that there are unused files there which should be gone. Best regards. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:02, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Fundraising translation feedback
editHey Laaknor,
I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.
To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback for norwegian bokmal using This Link
Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.
Many Thanks
ru.wikiversity
edit- Good afternoon, I apologize for machine translation, but I don't know English. I want to draw your attention to two questions. I remember you as you granted to me the rights of the administrator [4]. since then we made much and we develop good rates. But feature of wikiversity that usually there small communities as a lot of knowledge is required to participate in the project. We don't have enough administrators - that two which are except me are a little active. Now we chose one more active participant [5]. But it had emotional problems in ruwiki. I want that you would specify that it shouldn't influence - as ru-wikiversity is other project, and our community trusted this participant.
- The second question - I won't go into detail, but look at that that I wrote to the participant of Bastique [6] --SergeyJ (talk) 18:17, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
Updated scripts
editHi Laaknor. I edited your global.js, vector.js, and monobook.js to update you to the latest version of ajax sysop and StewardScript, which are compatible with the latest MediaWiki changes and reside on the Wikimedia Tool Labs for easier updates. I also updated deprecated functions, made your scripts HTTPS-compatible, and removed manual imports of your global.js (since that happens by default with global user pages, so your scripts were loading twice). Let me know if anything breaks. :) —Pathoschild 23:39, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks :) Laaknor (talk) 22:32, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
Global CSS/JS migration
editHello Laaknor. You have global scripts in User:Laaknor/global.js, which you import using your local JS pages. Since August 2014, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis. Since you already import them yourself, you may experience script errors or tools being added twice. Do you want me to remove the global imports from your local pages using Synchbot (without changing any other content)? —Pathoschild 02:31, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, if you could remove those, it would be great :) Laaknor (talk) 17:49, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
- Done! You can see the log on your archive page. :) —Pathoschild 19:36, 05 July 2015 (UTC)

Global bot
edit- This message is being left on your talk page at Meta-Wiki and those of your home wiki(s). Sorry for the duplicates.
Dear global bot operator: Some days ago you received a message in which you were informed that one or various accounts you hold lost a global bot flag because of inactivity. Due to a mistake, messages informing about this were not sent before removal took place as policy mandates. As such, if you think your bot will be active again on global bot duties, you can request the restoration of the global bot flag on the stewards' noticeboard at Meta-Wiki within the next two (2) weeks after this message has been posted. Please note that this removal was purely procedural based on inactivity. If you have any questions, you can reach me on my talk page at Meta-Wiki. Please accept my apologies in advance for this. Best regards. -- MediaWiki message delivery (talk) on behalf of MarcoAurelio at 18:11, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
